- 2024 Dark Horse Mustang Break in at 1000 miles, will it add more horsepower? We also got to run with a Mustang Mach 1 in this video, which is what people are comparing the Dark Horse to! We got some GTA POV style driving in this video as well.

This guy reminds me of myself, 20 years ago. When i thought i knew everything about cars and their engineering. 😂 Youre doing good kid. 👍🏼
Good video. I just moved from a modified 2021 GT to a 2024 GT premium with active exhaust. The one thing I noticed about most reviews is there seems to be a lot of "the new mustang is a lot like the old one....ect" it may look similar but this car is different. Can't wait to get to the first thousand miles. I like your video...normal person who has an everyday driver, that is giving a seat-of-the-pants honest opinion. More should use this format to talk about this new platform of Mustang! I am getting tired of the "spec sheet" reviews and body panel differences reviews....lol! This motor has such a refined feel out the box....it is going to be a beast when these things can get tuned.
Exactly! I think people expect drastic changes any time a new car comes out which just isn’t a thing nowadays (not very often at least) this s650 will for sure be a beast once tuning becomes available
The Coyote V8 is one of the best NA V8s ever made.
That guy wasn’t running you bro.
I felt the same exact way with my automatic 2024 GT Premium (fully-loaded). I remember trying some downshifts around 500 miles and it felt a little off so I stopped doing it. Now that I'm at 1200 miles the thing is a monster! Downshifts are super smooth and it just wants to run through the rpm's. I can't imagine how good it feels with the dark horse manual. I know they mention in the owner's manual that the vehicle may exhibit unusual characteristics during the break-in period.
Yeah break in is always different depending on the exact car… could just be in our heads but hey it still feels faster haha
Break - in lol..10 speed auto is real...class action suit on it with the Ford and GM.
What?
Im an old guy. Got a 2003 mach 1 (dog slow). Had a 2016 gt350 (fast as hell). Sold it to buy a boat. Bought the darkhorse. Its a simple reason why i like it better than gt350. I can drive it without scraping the front spoiler. The shelby was just too low to the ground. Oh, i woulda run with you. Lol
Never thought it could actually be a real thing but I honestly noticed a change in how this car shifted under WOT. Not so much more power, but more available power depending on what gear I'm in. It's definitely different now at 1900 miles than it was new.
I'm still only at 600 miles in mine, but I can't wait until I can have fun without worrying as much
It’s worth the wait my man
I like the color of the car. That’s a very underrated color .Mustangs go.
So testing it out on my 24 gt vert i definitely noticed the engine light up after 1000 miles. It also shifted way smoother (10 spd auto).
I traded it in for a dark horse and the engine feels timid again so i will update at 1000 miles once more. Im almost positive there is a 1000 mile break in programmed.
Congratulations on your Dark Horse! Love your attitude as well and I agree that it’s super nice to see older crowd enjoying modern muscle. I’m in NC and see a lot just cruising enjoying their Mustangs.
There is no switch that delivers more power after 1000 miles. It’s all a placebo effect.
The C8 Stingray actually had torque limiters until break in. The Mustang does not.
Could for sure be placebo but there was a noticeable ramp up at 5500 so who knows
100%
I have a cool-aid smile and goosebumps so big right now. Bro, I love this new platform of the Mustang. Love the video.
Thank you! It’s a crazy car!
That Mach 1 was ready to play 😂😂😂
I'm curious, what gave you the idea that the vehicle is aware of the mileage and holding back power until 1,000 miles?
Because that’s a very normal thing for performance cars
@@Freeway_Media interesting. I've never heard of that. Time to Google it! Haha. Great video. I like the 360 camera shots.
On corvettes i believe it even changes where the redline appears once it “unlocks”
@@Freeway_MediaYeap, it's very common actually
they state in the owner's manual that during the break-in period the vehicle "may exhibit unusual characteristics."
Hello mr Williams !!
1 word : WOWWW !!!🏎
I definitely like that color. I’m picking up my grabber blue dark horse Monday
Grabber blue is sweet! For sure sticks out
What color is that. Underground grey.?
Carbonized grey
@@Freeway_Media, looks great in Carbonized Grey!
Had a 22 PP1, then thought about getting a 24 DH but I really thought about it and I just decided to get a 23 Mach 1. It’s a beautiful car but I just wasn’t too much into the interior or dashboard. Took away the feeling of a mustang. I wish the 24 you can choose the option for the digital dash. But too me Mach 1 and DH are like in the same category. But great car. FORD on top
My DR 10speed only goes to 7000 at 400miles, I was going to shift at 7200 but limiter kicked in at 7k.
Interesting, do you maybe have the shift indicator programmed at 7k?
Where exactly have you seen anything about a break-in mileage? Where does it say there's more power after break in ? Or there's any difference in the instrument cluster gauges ? where is this fictitious mileage and those differences published ?.... for example the Corvette SPECIFICALLY mentions differences in the gauge and instrument cluster and performance levels at a certain mileage.... you can literally watch the tachometer Redline go higher up in the instrument cluster .. Ford doesn't do that though...
There’s nowhere that says and or confirms there’s more power after break in but there’s many people that feel as if there is. Just my opinion
The Mach1 looks better than the dark horse.
I disagree but it’s still an amazing looking car!
agreed mach1 slaps also was not a race sorry to the old dude driving it but he clearly dont know how to race it that legit doesn't answer any question on whos faster
I disagree... but I do like the mach 1 also
@@nemesis_zl1180 1/4 times an if u look at throttle house they also tested both an said the Mach 1 is faster when equipped with the same tire a roll race wit a random old guy aint squat but that doesn't take away that it looks an is baddass
Yeah he was not actually racing at all, maybe a couple second hit but that was it
How do those seats feel ?
I really like them tbh, they keep you planted and they are not hard at all
@@Freeway_Media ty I'm ordering a black dark horse soon
Awesome! I hope you get an allocation
What colour is it
I thought after the 1000 miles your supposed to to an oil change?? And is the break in just for the dark horse model? Nice car by the way!
It was so close to being garaged that im waiting til spring for the oil change since it would be sitting for months anyways. Thank you!
We have identical cars haha, not the color I wanted but happy i got one and honestly I think it may be one of best looking colors on this car. Everything just flows perfect. I swear the calipers are more purple than black tho lol . Do a X-Pipe, you wont regret it! Way more pops crackles almost like a crackle tune from the factory😂
I like the trailing camera view.
It’s not a C8 corvette. Ford doesn’t have a lock on the computer until a certain mileage. And the 1000 mile break in isn’t even listed in the manual. I believe ford puts it at 500. The whole thing is placebo.
It could for sure be placebo, but there is 1000 mile break in listed on the updated owners manual. Either way, power feels insane now that I don’t feel bad about beating on it!
He must have a dark horse to 😑
@@Freeway_Media it’s placebo. Chevy locks the rpm of the car until it hits 500 miles. Ford doesn’t do that. And if they diid hey would have to tell you. Power doesn’t just automatically generate once a vehicle hits a break in.
Which 360 view camera n mount is that
Insta360x3 and a pellking 2 piece mount
Rather than relying on human perceptions, surely you could have got some timed numbers from all the track stuff on the iPad screens.
100% I’ll be getting a draggy too
MUSTERO !!!!!yeah
I like the outside of the the new car and the 500 naturally aspirated horsepower is great but all the HUGH!! Screens is a bit much it looks like a space ship. I wish they would have kept the drivers gauges normal instead of the Hugh screen. This is coming from a old guy and the young guys may like it,just my take but it is still a great car. CONGRATS! On your new car
Yeah I can see why people don’t like them, I personally do like them and that’s why I went for this car over a gt350.. with the fox body gauges on here though I will say it looks very close to a normal gauge cluster!
They honestly not that big when you go sit in one. I thought the same until i got behind the wheel.
Do you work for Ford? Are employed or contracted by Ford in any capacity?
No lol
Bud didn’t even race u💀
He did floor it you can see his car jump up and hear the exhaust. But pretty sure he let off after I pulled ahead
fr wasnt a race sure old dude prob lined up but has no idea how to roll the car doesnt prove anything really no doubt its prob faster but not even close to what that was its only a 15hp diffrence an all the 1/4 times the mach1 blows it out the water
Not the pit vipers😂
I wear glasses and they fit over them good gimme a break 🤣
Lmao I love this
It’s not that anyone thinks the dark horse sucks it’s the fact that they are so much money for 500hp
What other new car can you buy that has 500hp for less than
Unfortunately, that’s the new brave world we live in youngn. In case you haven’t noticed, all car prices have skyrockets. With the Dark Horse, is it pricey? Yes but so is everything else. More importantly, tell me where else can you purchase a 500 HP Naturally aspirated RWD V8 with a manual and a full manufacturer’s warranty. I’d love to hear your response. At this point with the Camaro and Dodge brothers bailing, Mustang is the only game, not just in town, but in the world with the variables I listed above. With that, FORD owns the market and it comes down to supply and demand. Ford set the MSRP starting at $60k which is right in line with the 23’ Mach 1. This car is priced accurately in todays climate. Trust me, it pisses me off too but ain’t a damn thing you or I can do about it. So I’m gonna appreciate the car and FORD for having the balls to do what Dodge and Chevy wouldn’t… zMad respect to FORD
You're not just paying for the horsepower. You're paying for the added aero and track-capability. It's meant to be a track car and horsepower isn't as important on track.
Perfectly said.
Yessir! Also makes a big difference on capability of aftermarket parts
Nice car. What color bro?
Thanks! It’s Carbonized grey metallic
Good non scientific comparison. But the revs for the after 1000 Mi mark were down by a lot and you can hear that. The motor just makes more power up there. There may be a bit of timing that Ford enters back in after breakin. Glad you're liking it. Compared to your WRX the DH feels stronger? Technically the DH is less power tho.
The DH is for sure more powerful, the WRX was for sure a missile but just barely any torque. I’d say 1/4 mile would be a close race but DH would take the W (based on races I’ve had with modded s550s that were close) we are also comparing 375AWHP (~450 crank) to 500 crank (I believe 440-460RWHP based on dyno tests I’ve seen?) so very close in specifics. Just completely different machines
Did you really say Mach 1 hitting a thousand miles?
If I accidentally said Mach 1 instead of dark horse my bad
@@Freeway_Media No worries. It could've been me. Atleast you know I was listening to you.
I'd find another Mach to run for comparison...that didn't even look like any kind of run.
Oh I 100% agree lol
That’s the cheap version of the Mach 1! Catch me, I have the fully loaded track package and I like to play. 🤩
Let’s run it! He for sure wasn’t trying to have too much fun haha
unless you are on the track with the HP, same engine will give same result. HP on straight will not make it go faster.
@@matthewvillalba it’s not the car, it’s the driver and once they get over a certain speed those ones talking about how fast their car runs are always the first ones to get off the gas 🤣🤣🤣
Still the same engine
Sad thing is my stock 2019 5.0 will own it
No it won’t my man. The new regular GT? Sure. Dark horse? No.
Is this car $15,000 better than a Camaro SS 1LE?
If you like the mustang platform more? Yes. If you like the Camaro more? No. If you like both? Personal choice then!
Mach - is faster
But Dyno for the win!!!!!!!
It’s never wrong!
No there is not. 😂. Obviously you have never drive a boosted Mustang. I am sure that thing feels slow.
New rear Lamps sukk
Love the dark horse but horrible Mach 1 driver for sure lol
Meh too slow.
