    That is a great idea for that type of texture. But if you want more bling to add to it…. What I would do is whenever I put the first two coats of clear then I would do is sand it #1: 600, #2: 800 and then #3: 1,000 grit. Here is the fun part. I would add .250” Rainbow Holographic Metal Flakes for the next two coats. Then I will add three more coats of clear. At this point I am going to water sand it with #1: 800, #2: 1,000, #3: 1,500, #4: 2,000 and then #5: 2,500. Now it’s time for the cut, buff and polish it up 5,000 grit! I hope that you all will enjoy it as much as I have whenever I was goofing off. lol

    You can also use slow reducer with a silver base, I like Orion Silver, versus buying the actual marbleizer from HOK. You can always kandy it too

    It looks good, but I think too much black was covered up. The solution may be to use negative with positive techniques. After you lift up the plastic wrap, apply some black paint using wrinkled up plastic wrap onto the above pattern. Then you are good to apply the candy paint.

    Surely you can just use a slow reducer with normal base coat and get the same results

    Now that is cool. A similar trick was used in the 50's using fabric with a pattern in it. The paint was sprayed over the fabric then removed. Thanks for the trick. I think I will try that a portion of my truck. I really love the end result. I will defiantly be trying this out.

      @@CarAddictGarage Yes. I was talking about lace. I just could't think of the word the other day. The guys that built the Low Riders would use that trick. Now that was a cool trick. I am going to try many differant tricks when I do my truck. I can't wait.

    So you’re paying extra for a ‘special’ paint?
    I’ve been doing this for years using standard car paints, any colour on any colour, using the plastic and spraying that.
    Seems like reinventing the wheel!

    I remember my dad did one just like that for our neighbors but it was like a dark blood red and it looked really beautiful and I was wondering what it could’ve been that made that design and now I know how I want him to paint my mustang I just didn’t know what the effect or what it was that made the paint have that design effect

    Hey donnie I love your vids they have helped me quite a bit since I've started working at a dealership. This is unrelated to this video but if you ever find yourself in the situation can you post a video on how to, or advice on pulling a dent that extended into the door james.
    Example: I had a new car that was clipped on the rear drivers side quarter, the repair area extended into the rear jams. It was a mess. I have had a couple like that and for some reason I have been struggling with applying filler and sanding the jams so they are smooth and consistent. I always have a goofy high, low, exc spot. I just can't seem to find a good solid approach to completing the job nicely. Thanks for the effort you put into your videos.

    • @CarAddictGarage
      @CarAddictGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is important to tap down on the high areas while pulling on the edge of the quarter panel. From what is sounds like to me, you're probably fighting the high areas. Try tapping on the high at the same time you are pulling on the body line edge. I hope this helps.

    I have a job coming in where i have to do this and i need to use sikkens solvent basecoat and make it work… do you have any suggestions?

    • @CarAddictGarage
      @CarAddictGarage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My best advice is to test it on a small test panel first. Every brand may act a little differently. After you spray you're black and allow it to flash off, use the slowest reducer you have with the silver to slow the dry time down to give you more time to work it. I would test it on a small panel first. I hope this helps and good luck with the job!

    Oh, huh, I was kind of reluctant to watch this, thumbnail made it look like the sort of effect you get from plastic touching wet metallic paint, and it kind of looked like that at a distance, but the close up looks way better! Probably moreso in person.

    • @CarAddictGarage
      @CarAddictGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of different effect. You could spray candy over it to give a new effect. Thanks for watching.

    Dont waste cash on a ' marbiliser ' product - just mix silver paint a bit thinner than normal 👍

    Hi guys, thank you for this video, this is an awesome paint job share. Interested in that effect since I saw the Trek molten marble bike. But it seems they proceed at the invert: you start from black to clearer colors, as the true marble has only slight black veins underneath, Can you confirm me they start with light and powerfull colors, and then apply darker color that they slightly erase? But first, do you think it's the same method as yours ? Thank you for giving me desire to experiment! Greetings from France ;)

    I am trying to fix up a friend's 2018 Toyota Sienna XLE. It has the rear sonar/ radar setup. Blind Spot Monitor system. The dealer told my friend that he cannot repair and spot paint the bumper damage as it will interfere with the radar system on the rear driver side of the bumper? Is that true? I see it has the holes on the bumper with the sensors and those are fine but the black box attached to the body behind the bumper cover that does the radar - is that an issue?

      Tape it up or take it out when you paint. Itll be fine. Bodyshops do it everyday.

      As he stated, you are correct. Spray paints, regular base coats, and all the above work fine. However, HOK marbilizer is specially formulated to have a longer flash time to work with.
