Another underrated Toyota Auris? (2012 - 2018 Mk2 Review)

  • How good is the Toyota Auris? Having recently reviewed the original Auris, I thought it would be interesting to compare and contrast, as well as put the Mk2 through its paces in its own right.
    This is a review of a 2015 Touring Sports (aka Estate / Station Wagon), with the 1.4 D-4D engine. But if you're looking for the regular hatch or hybrid, 90% of this review will be useful to you too!
    Sold from 2012 - 2018 and also known as the E180, Toyota Corolla and Scion iM.

    Mine's a late 2018 Tourer Hybrid. Not a jot of trouble in over two years and now 29k on it. What I love is the space available for load carrying without it being a massive block of a vehicle; it's slim and manouevrable with plenty of bells and whistles, and it goes electric whenever it can. Not an involving car to arouse the passions but it will keep you safe, it's not tiring on a longer run and at around 55mpg all the time I have no complaints. All round, these are wonderful cars and it's great they have been built in UK.

      Yes, very true, they're quite compact yet very spacious. I doubt you'll have much trouble with it even if you keep it 10 years

    I recently bought a 2014 TS hybrid, with just 70000 km (43000 miles) in absolutely perfect condition for a really good price. Fully loaded, with beige lether, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, heated seats, parking sensors, JBL sound system etc... I absolutely love it. Although not as powerful and punchy as my previous MK6 Golf GTI, it is extremely comfortable, reliable, relaxing and spacious. Also to me the pre-facelift looks better than the facelift. These hybrids are perfect to buy used. They are not the type of cars that get abused, mostly owners are elderly and take take or them a lot, taxis excluded ;)

    I have a 65 plate 1.4 d4d with 120000, only thing that went wrong was back wiper mechanism corroded, changed it for £180. Everything about it is cheap to run, tyres, filters, tax, fuel. 1.4d4d is really underrated. No gearbox oil change, timing chain.

    I have to buy a new car because my old Mazda needs over £1k spending on it which doesn't make sense. The Auris estate is on my radar. I use my car mainly for business use and 95% of the journeys are around town. That means performance, handling, sportiness and sexy looks are meaningless. Reliabilty, affordablity, comfort and practicality are my requirements. I'm a huge fan of Toyotas.

    Hi from Germany, I have a 2015 2,0 UK build Diesel Auris and I haven't had any trouble. I had my TÜV I think it's called Mot in the UK this month and it passed without problems - the guy that checked it said he sees many cars but Toyota is definitely the most reliable in his opinion. So far I can confirm that.

      The new-shape Corolla? If I can get hold of one I would for sure. I had one as a hire car and it was great. I think it was the smaller petrol engine (1.6 and not even a hybrid?) and it performed OK. Was a saloon model in Europe.

      @@JJonCars yeah the new one. They only do a 1.2 engine in the manual in this country maybe bigger engine elsewhere. Seems a nice car but worried it’s under powered. Saying that my wife has a Hyundai i10 1.2 and that little car is fast off the line, it’s surprising fun to drive.

    I got my auris hybrid touring sports second hand from my local Toyota dealer, it’s a 2015 and it had 28,800 miles on it, it’s up to 142,000 miles now, the biggest problem I had was the hybrid battery pack failed at 123, 000 miles and it’s out of warranty, it cost me £1,876 to get a new Toyota genuine pack installed, it was done bye a taxi firm that have a fleet of them, would have been a lot more it a Toyota dealer done it, but all in all it’s a brilliant car and now with the new battery pack it should last me out .

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's interesting. I mean it's not exactly a low cost item, but if the car has been otherwise reliable all those miles, I'd say it's worth it to replace. As you say it should now last a long time 👍
