    Owned a 1.6 2009 one since July 2019. Have driven it about 20k miles. Great all rounder and would recommend for the practical motorist any day. Powerful enough for motorway driving, and city streets etc. Still think they missed a trick with not doing a leather interior option, and no auto lights or wipers on mine, but as I said a great car, bigger inside than you'd think. Only issue I have had is that the rear light cluster seals were letting water into the boot when it was heavy raining, so I have since resealed with black silicon and ordered replacement seals to fit, quite common on cars, so not unusual.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice one :) I didn't realise they didn't do a leather interior, quite strange! Definitely bigger inside than you think, the rear space is really impressive. Cheers Marc!

    Simple, spacious, comfortable to drive, very open with good views all round as you drive. Some cars can feel a bit cramped and claustrophobic, but not the Auris.
    I have had my 2012 1.33 litre engine Auris since 2016. I have 194k on the clock and it is super reliable. I reckon I can reach 300k plus with no issues

    i bought 1.4 d4d in 2018 with 115k km. I've done another 113k km, no weird problems that you can meet in German or French cars. Rather, the replacement of the starter (first replacement from new), alternator (first replacement from new) and one brake caliper at this age and mileage should not surprise anyone :D average fuel consumption in real live is 5.4L/100km (30% town, 40% 120-140km/h ride, 30% 80-100 km/h ride) so.. amazing.

      @@gerardocoronado7594 Ooh, is that the 180? I know that in general the diesel engines in this Auris are not quite as dependable as the petrol engines. But the 180 is the top of the line Auris so I'd certainly be tempted by it. If you want the performance then I'd say go for it! If you need economy then you'd be better served by the smaller diesel I'd imagine.

    I have always thought they're quite smart looking cars and I'd be interested to see a review of the Hybrid as it's got the same drive train as my CT200H but is probably a lot lighter, nimbler and even more economical.

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I get the same feeling that it would be a lighter feeling version of the CT200H :)
      I would hazard a guess that the CT200 would be a bit better to drive through the corners, as its suspension does seem better tuned to that. The 'official'/optimistic MPG figures are 68 for the CT, and 70 for the Auris. So a fraction better! Means you can be happy with your Lexus choice I think!

    I bought it about a year ago and I had no problems with it, even though my mechanic told me that the previous owner most likely had an accident with it due to some parts that look broken in the front bumper.
    I've been driving with it a lot, 620 kilometers a day and I had no problems with it so far.

    I had one of these. A 1.6 petrol like this. I never got on with it. Also the centre console on mine creaked something stupid and I could never get a comfortable driving position. There was quite a bit of transmission whine in low gears as well. I traded it in after a year and took a financial hit on it. I also found the heater controls too small and fiddly to operate. It drove ok, was quick enough and didn't let me down but it wasnt for me.

    I have a 2006 one - with 250000kms -160kish miles? It is a 1800cc with CVT trans. I was skeptical about the CVT but after the amount of kms I’ve put on it, just keeps soldering on. I keep trying to find stuff that might go wrong with it but it won’t misbehave!
    It’s particularly special with these record fuel prices. It’s a 40L tank and I get up to 630km on one tank, as good as a 1.3L alternative (That’s the CVT). It’s not a hybrid, but it’s almost as good as one.
    It’s running as new, and I only paid $3200 for it.
    The Toyota CVT trans is so good that at 100kmhr it sits at 1500rpm.

    Have one from 2011, a Toyota Auris 1.4 D4D "MMT - Multi Mode Manual Transmission - Semi Automatic", with 140.000 km... The car itself is good, the engine is rock solid, but this car suffers from that lousy/horrible MMT transmission, had 2 dangerous situations with this car both related to the MMT transmission, was cruising at around 80 km/h the car puts me in Neutral for 2 times, automatically switching to Neutral, and had to pull over to switch off and switch on the car, had it serviced to Toyota, they reprogrammed the MMT inductor "this was the first time" second time he did exactely the same, once again, puts in neutral and had to switch off and switch on the car, pissed off, I sent the car again, and this time they said the maintenance was done properly by reprogramming and putting grease on the inductor "this inductor is like a robot, that's why this is a manual car with a robot for the automatic interface", until now, I had no isses with the transmission, will give feedback. The second problem relates to Diesel cars only, the particle filter gets clogged, 1 year ago I asked for a cleaning, it was done and the car was ok, and one year later it has the same problem again.

In general, the car had a trouble-free gearbox and a fairly powerful engine for highway rides. Good turn as well as correct holding in the curve on bends. Combustion slightly high with the disadvantage of only 5 speed gearbox for that year. It never let me down on long journeys and you could pack a lot of things into it when going to the campsite...
    The aerodynamic drag was probably even less than in the Ford Focus from the same year. Now I have the Auris Touring Sport CVT Hybrid, the last edition and I have to say that in driving the car I had more impressions from the old Auris, despite the lack of improved suspension at the rear. In my opinion, Auris should be continued in production and not replaced by the name Corolla - but this is just pure marketing and sales strategy for Toyota.

    5 years ago I got the first generation of Auris 1.5L CVT (2012) in Japan just after graduated university and got a job. It was a mint condition but very cheap because it was a not popular “washing machine” car. Although I purchased it with £4,500 then run from 18000 to 45000 miles, no problem at all!
    The washing machine did a perfect job for taking my girlfriend out, then still it is making a comfortable drive for a baby and wife with attaching child seat.

    I recently bought a Mercedes Clk after watching your recommendation of them. I’d wanted one for quite a while and your video kind of persuaded me to just buy it. The car that I was supposed to be selling to accommodate the merc is a D-4D 2.0 Toyota Auris. Thing is, I’ve grown to really like this car and have yet been unable to put it up for sale. It’s quite quick, it’s comfortable, reliable and has just breezed through its MOT again with no advisories at all. I really like this car so much that I’m thinking you know sod it, I’m going to keep it for long trips and use the merc for wafting about locally. Hello. Generally speaking the smaller petrol engines are cheaper to run, maintain and insure. So the 1.33 might be a good idea for a first car (Unless you do a lot of miles, then of course diesel or hybrid could be worth it)
      £4000 should get you a very nice one. Best thing to do is get some insurance quotes for each engine and see which comes up cheapest (sometimes it can be a surprise which is cheapest)

    The latest Corolla has very similar exterior look although it has been made lower, longer and wider with a new suspension set up to offer better handling at the price of less headroom and leg room , especially on the rear seats. The Auris is largest in class as interior space and comfort.

    I have a 2008 1.4tr i only bought it in january ,i paid a lot 4k for it,1 elderly owner and it has a genuine 6400 miles on the clock with 14 main dealer services !,it smells new and drives beautifully it really is concourse condition but i am using it but it is stunning and i love it .

      6400?!!!! Or 64000? :) Either way, it's low mileage. I think buying well looked after cars like this is worth the money! So £4k is not bad, we paid similar for a Honda Accord of the same age. Your car will last another 10 years at least, so a great purchase!

      @@JJonCars Whats really odd is why someone buys a car new and drives less than 150 miles per year over the last decade and takes it to a main dealer to have it serviced upto its 140,000mile service and does not use it ,cheaper to take taxis but i supposse being in her 80s might explain it sadly she passed away at christmas .

      @@JJonCars kindly can you advise me on Toyota auris 1.6 valve matic with MMI grearbox from UK. As I am planning to buy one for my wife and she doesn't drive manual. I wonder about the reliability of the MMI grearbox. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    I've subbed, the only decent Auris review on TH-cam, I'm gunna buy one in white 2011 model, 1 owner from new, 10 service stamps, 79k miles, £5999.
    This review sealed the deal I think, I have a 2002 1.4 vvti corolla had it 6 years hassle free, 4 advisories from new never failed an MOT, wanted something abit newer with electric mirrors, cruise control, 6 gears and a bit more umph, this car ticks everybox and more, thanks.

    I'm curious, why should we avoid the 1.33l Auris?

    • @JJonCars
      @JJonCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Avoid is probably a bit of a strong term - I'm sure it's still a great car. Just personally I wouldn't like the lower amount of power on offer - not much fun if you need to overtake or get up to speed on the motorway. But it's by no means a bad car and if you don't mind less power then you don't have to avoid it :)
