WHOA!!!!! I can’t believe this comment blew up so quickly!! I even won the pin!!!
Regarding the interpreter: If you repeatedly try to interrogate a Soviet soldier before rescuing Miller, Ocelot will initially react with confusion at Snake's inability to understand - a contingency his hypnotherapy probably did not prepare him for. He needed a moment to process that. He then explains that, "the shrapnel horn must be pressing on the language center of your brain".
But why couldn't Ocelot translate for us?
@@venn7eance925 Because Troy Baker doesn't speak Russian ;p
@@venn7eance925if i remember correctly, ocelot says something along the lines of interpreting is a skill and not to expect him to do any interpreting for venom
@@venn7eance925 Continuing to interrogate without an interpreter results in Ocelot explaining that being multilingual is not the same skill-set as simultaneous interpretation.
@@venn7eance925Because it's Ocelot. Of course he wouldn't.
After all these year, I still wish the game's end prologue would have been the player playing as David Hayter Solid Snake infiltrating the very base youve been building all game and had the MG1 Boss Fight against Venom.
Hell yeah. That's like how I always wanted mgs4 to end with you being able to choose which metal gear to get in for a different outcome like in mgs 3 with ocelot and the revolver on the wig.
But wouldn’t that take away a potential mgs msx 1 ending , outerheaven could have been a chapter of the game but again this game is about venoms journey as a snake and how he was very tragic compared to the rest of the snakes.
Thats the one that sadly would not get a remake.
@@discountmorty213 Mgsv will get a remake considering there probably remaking the games by order for example metal gear 3,metal gear portable ops ,metal gear peace walker, mgsv, mgs 1 msx,mgs 2 msx, metal gear solid 1, metal gear solid 2,metal gear solid 4. I don’t think they will make the spin off games like ac!d but they could remake mgsr considering it’s popularity amongst its fan base and make it more comedic or something idk but but not too much.

@@felathar1985true but he was also considered the best soldier in terms of ability and even he says he finally was able to surpass the boss on peacealker. Ocelot even mentions in MGS V that he was a little slow compared to before (hinting Venom not being as good as Big Boss).

A buddy of mine actually picked up on the fact that both the medic and snake were voiced by Keifer Sutherland in Ground Zeroes, and called it before even beginning the Phantom Pain. It was quite something and then he just said "It's exactly the sort of thing Kojima pulled with MGS2". So the whole time I was watching for the fact that this WAS Snake and he just had head trauma, but no - he called it. Regardless the game was still amazing, but imagine that.
We're glad to hear more fans were able to catch the twist before release! 😊 We actually theorized Venom was a body double a year before Ground Zeroes' release, but unfortunately this led to quite some backlash against the channel from several viewers who wanted to play as Big Boss - and were convinced Venom was him, despite all the hints by Kojima, which The Phantom Pain later clarified. 🙂

Your friend was right. But this was a popular theory at the time
But the Big question is, why everyone calls him the "Medic" he is a patient too ?
I forgot about that line from Kojima, "Betray your audience".
Literally
I would have preferred a final MGS game playing as Big Boss rather than having that twist ruin my experience.
@@seiferwolfhart1144 That twist enhanced my experience.
@@seiferwolfhart1144 Metal Gear was always about bittersweet endings and horrific revelations, you expected any different from the game that was supposed to spectacularly conclude the saga?
Pick a different game. Call of Duty has plenty of happy endings. One of them is that many people die, in literally every single game, which is fantastically overlooked by the vast majority of players... or even better, _they actually find it satisfying._ Something that was commented on in MGS4, and something that, in Kojima's eyes, contributes to young, impressionable manchildren supporting war as a phenomenon, barely understanding how the world really works.
MGS is not a power fantasy for said manchildren where you can find closure and sense of resolution in virtual warfare. It is, as all MGS games are supposed to be, a cautionary tale, made in a country which still has an entire generation of people who survived nuclear bombings of their cities - and people privilleged enough to live in a country which victimized them and still continues to be the most powerful state, military-wise (which means it is virtually immune to being assaulted), demand that they make a game where they can enjoy mindlessly killing people without considering the real-life consequences of political mind games or psychological implications of being traumatized. Then the very same people write stupid sh!t on the Internet, supporting Russian invasion of Ukraine, or Trump, a confirmed Russian insert, as POTUS. Or write apologetic bullsh!t about mall or mosque shootouts performed by manchildren brainwashed by alt-right propaganda which was clearly invented by some bored narcissistic Russian basement dweller in his 70s, looking back at it.
God damn, some people are really dense. No wonder Kojima hated his Western fanbase and considered it pointless to continue making new Metal Gear games. Also explains why Nintendo is so popular in Japan, while everyone else in the world considers them absolute nutcases. Except it is the other way around.
@@seiferwolfhart1144you just can't appreciate a good story cuz you're small minded
when they said I needed a russian interpreter I knew it right away. Big Boss speaks russian, superbly in fact. even with the coma, he would probably still remeber a few words or sentences, Ocelot even comments on it if you try to interrogate during the first mission, and says that "the shrapnel must have hit the languge center of our brain", which clearly sounds like a half assed lie.
I mean its a pretty valid reason on the top of the fact you were in a coma for 9 years you were bound to forget stuff especially with pieces of strapnel on your head and body
Nice job. I had forgotten all that.
I had forgotten he knew since It's was years since I played mgs3 but I found it odd since j remembered all the Russian words and names of the places in Mgs3 so I was like.
"Wait so they sent a non-russian speaking soldier into Russia to do a mission? Odd but ok."
I speak russian, so my big boss understood everything :)
It is insane how many subtle, but yet right out into the open inferences that are made about Venom not being the real BB...and I missed them all on my first play through after launch.
Don't beat yourself up... it's very easy to miss subtle story beats that are sandwiched in-between literally HOURS of worthless, useless, meaningless dialogue and grind-to-a-halt cutscenes...
It took me at least three go arounds with MGS4 before I realized there was actually a game hidden in the cutscenes. It's really easy to miss, but if you look for it, you can see it...

Have you ever played Bioshock? Nah... you seem like the kind of guy who maybe missed that one. Well anyway, they were able to build this world, full of lore and detail, and they only had... I think maybe four cutscenes in the entire game?
It's crazy what you can do when your ship isn't being run by someone who puts their "vision" above everything else...
Ooo... maybe you've heard of a game called Elden Ring? That game's story is... well you basically need a compendium to understand a fraction of it, and even then it's all fan-theory speculation and nonsense... but that game managed to be... ya know... FUN... because they decided not to shove a fifty-five minute cutscene, several times, throughout its story... almost as if they focused on gameplay instead...
Baldur's Gate 3 has a pretty deep lore... but it never feels like the story bogs down the game. I wonder what they did differently, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm? Gee... it's a mystery
Oh man... let's not forget Breath of the Wild... a game that everyone FAMOUSLY hated because it didn't include convoluted Twin Peaks-esque, hour-and-a-half cutscenes, detailing unnecessary plot points, while glossing over the important bits. I recall when I first picked up that game, I was about ten hours in when I finally said to myself, "Pffft... all I've been doing is exploring so many interesting sites... discovering endless secrets... and using the in-game mechanics to solve puzzles how I want, rather than the game making me do it their way... WHEN DOES THE FUN STATRT?!?"
Here's the real amazing part, though: you are more than welcome to enjoy whatever the hell you want... but don't piss on my leg and try to convince me it's raining, bud...
I think the thing that always stuck in my mind was Venoms damaged eye. It was clearly non functioning but it seemed off. Big Boss lost his by having it shot- para medic even explains how much damage there was to the eye- it seemed far too healthy shape wise to have been caused by a bullet.
The injury to the real Big Boss's eye was a corneal burn and globe rupture caused by the gasses of Major Ocelot's revolver being forced out of the cylinder gap.
So basically, "big boss" should have something in common with Carl, from "the walking dead" but his body double has an eye that's just jacked up. And he's also like the drummer from Def Leppard. He's got one arm.lol.
@@justincooper5189to be fair, the reason his eye is messed up along with his arm is because he body blocked a bomb that could’ve killed big boss, venom snake is the medic that was in the chopper when Paz blew up
Big Boss wasn’t really shot in the eye, it was the muzzle flash that fucked it up. If it was the bullet, then he’d have a hole going through his head and would’ve died.
I'm not 100% percent sure since I haven't played mgs3 in years but if I'm not mistaken the bullet Grazes his eye when he pushes himself forward to save Eve.
It basically ruptures because of that small contact with the bullet.
Big Boss stole the identity; while Raiden discarded the identity.
MGSV is like Opposite Day for MGS2 and vice versa.
Yeah, Riden threw off dogtags with our name to show that he won't be the player or follow the player's rules
But Venom Snake embraced the player, in a glance he realises that he IS the player.
@@user-nh4wg8lx2j That is the beauty of it. Venom Snake isn't the player, We are venom snake. He goes through with it because he was loyal to the Boss till the end.
Its really funny how mgs5 is a mirror to mgs2 in almost every way, the themes are completely opposite, mgs2 was supossed to be the end of the franchise and mgs5 as of yet is the end of the franchise, the number 2 is literally the number 5 but upside down, and like you said: raiden discards the identity of while venom embraces it
The Mother Base soldier saying “I don’t care who you really are” is only after you’ve finished the game and the ending reveals the truth
That is a truly loyal man. Staying by Boss's side, even if it's just a double working for him.
nuh uh, I had one say it to me 10% into the game 💀
Ah, to experience that moment of realisation all over again! Nothing better than an intelligent, well-crafted plot twist.
Yeah, just to have it spoiled through a strategy guide leak a month before it came out! I chalked that spoiler right-on up there with Final Fantasy 7, mid-game. 🙃😆 and the remake that a couple reviewers didn’t care in the slightest to avoid for a few generations of new gamers either.

Hi Alan, is this bait?
@@shidfardtvwhat do you mean bro? the scar thing is real hahaha
It's a fake scar to replicate the boss.
The scar was never real, it's main purpose was to conceal a wire that Snake uses to escape a cell. After that he has a call with Kaz where they say the scar is gone now
i mean the most clear indication is that he had a prosthetic hand and a piece of metal on his head that neither big boss or any snake had. At this point i realized yep there's no way i'm playing as bb right now.

Poor Venom didn't betray Big Boss though. It must be hard to accept something like this.
Idk about people but i actually loved that ending, to me it felt like a thank you letter from Kojima, think about it, you were snake all along, ever since the first game, you are the player, the main reason behind the success of such legend, so if anything, it's all thanks to you, idk, the line of was "you're your own men, im big boss, and so are you, this story we build together" something like that, it felt like a letter where hideo tells you that all the success behind that character was because of you, and now that it is said, good bye.

@@Zapan777 no seriously a lot of people those that ending was not fulfilling enough, when i honestly thought it was the best it could be, so i wanted to put that out, I've not seen a game director do anything similar.

My favorite part of "He's not your son, the results are negative" is more what it does for Liquid's character than Venom's. Liquid obviously has no idea how genetics work (as much as it's memed, this is more or less true in-universe too, his idea that dominant genes are superior to recessive genes is repeatedly depicted as being a flawed view of reality), so it makes total sense that he'd interpret "Venom isn't your father" as "My genes don't match his so I must have the recessive genes", even though Liquid was the one to have dominant genes. It's a great, subtle, and funny way to show how that misunderstanding came about. Liquid's always been my favorite Metal Gear character and MGSV made me like him even more for reasons like this.
Like a damn fiddle
Depends on who is fiddled or your looking angle.
The best plot twist in gaming history, in my opinion. Coz it shifts the narrative from Big bosses story, to YOUR story
"Im big boss....and so are you"
For me, Ahab in the prologue was already something that raised my suspicions, especially when he moved and spoke with the assurance of Big Boss in Ground Zeroes, while the one you're controlling was hesitant and unsure of himself. Even on my very first playthrough of the prologue, I already had a suspicion, and carried that suspicion throughout the entire run. That TPP ends by making you replay the prologue pretty much confirmed my suspicions well before I finished it.
The second major clue was when The Man on Fire just let him go, and when you learn that he's actually Colonel Volgin with a grudge, it doesn't add up. And the last one that's more subtle is Eli not having Venom's genetic data.
I'm doing my first replay of TPP since finishing it all those years ago. I'm appreciating so many of the hints and foreshadowing in the game that I can't believe I didn't pick up on the first time.
I think one of my favourite subtle hints is early on Venom references Disney's Pinocchio movie. Despite MGS3 explicitly stating that the real Naked Snake never watched movies and doesn't make references.
That and the 'language centre' Ocelot mentions IS real - but it's located slightly behind your ear nowhere near Venom's horn.
On a meta level, Big Boss’ stats in PW only has high combat ability. The rest of his abilities are E rank. Compare to Venom Snake’s ability in TPP where Combat ability isn’t his only strong point.
I always found it funny how Venom Snake's Intel is better than his medical stat despite him being a doctor before.

Bro you don't say "moment.." in english like you use it in german. It's "hold on"
Regardless of what everyone thought about this game, I still believe that the plot twist regarding Venom Snake and his true identity is one of the best in the series.
One thing i never understood is what happened to Quiet? Surely if she were around for Operation Intrude, Snake would've been in trouble
Given the fact she fell in love with Venom and sacrificed herself by speaking English when he was poisoned by a cobra's venom, she probably found a place in the desert to quietly die, preventing the spread of the infection. Anticlimactic, but realistic.
@@burnttoast.2017she does not die. More so retire from society so more like a societal death. after all she doesn't need lungs since she already breathes through photosynthesis or some shit like that.
Before the game released, I was totally expecting Kojima to swap out Big Boss. It was very much hinted in the trailers after all. So after getting control for the first time I checked Venom Snake's stats to see he had near perfect everything, whereas actual Big Boss in Peace Walker had absolutely nothing in R&D, Cooking (This one I distinctly remember), Medical, and Intel. It felt good to be proven right at the very start of the game and I'm glad that detail was there.
There are multiple things I should have noticed my first playthrough but I was just enjoying the ride too much 😅
I remember even the damn game trailers coming out and saying "play as a new snake" or "play as venom" and totally thinking nothing of it...there was so many details in my face and I didn't even think about it, but once I heard that cassette in "truth" everything clicked in my head and I was like "son of a bitch!" It really upset me at first because I felt so dumb, I literally had pretty much the same feeling venom did when he found out and that is why I've grown to really love this game as much as all the others....just really wish they could have finished the other chapters...that's what makes me sad...this game being in unfinished, mgo3 being nothing like mgo2, and the cancellation of silent hills will always be the biggest most depressing let down in gaming, I'll never forgive Konami for their actions
the final reveal should have been that Big Boss was voiced by David Hayter
It was the little things that pointed that way for me during story . One was being able to make a custom face but still having snake's face during the story , and I wondered why he couldnt understand russian . Still with all that venom became my favorite snake.

I just wish they would've had David Hayter's voice for the real big boss when he showed up.
I already knew there was something fishy with MGSV Snake because of that intro where you create your character. It reminded me of MGS 2 meta narrative.
The Les Enfant Terribles project WAS a complete failure.
Miller LITERALLY created a Big Boss clone with some plastic surgery and cassette tape experience.
the moment you could'Ve noticed is litereally the intro, the flashbacks where you lie next to big boss in the hospital (also shown in the video above)
Anyone with knowledge of prior games knew this was the case as you kill this copy of Big Boss in one of the previous games, but it's never stated how he came to be in a position of such power fully over the real Big Boss.
As a matter of fact, yes, in Metal Gear. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake is where the real Big Boss is defeated and put into a coma until he was able to be reconstructed from the pieces of Liquid and Solidus
"You're at the precipice, Tony, of an enormous crossroad" - Carmine Lupertazzi
When you realize that the Big Boss you fight in the Original Metal Gear game had a Rocket Arm that you kill, but the real Big Boss miraculously comes back in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake when you burn him Alive.
Yup, Venom Snake was the enemy in Metal Gear, and in Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, the real Big Boss is the enemy.
I have been aware that there are some fans who argue that Venom Snake is the Big Boss from Operation Intrude N313, a retcon and plot twist. Well, I understand that retcon and plot twist perfectly explains how Big Boss truly survives his encounter with Solid Snake, because turns out there are two Big Bosses, and the Soldiers who captured Grey Fox and the rest of Foxhound Members turn out to be former agents and soldiers for Diamond Dogs who are now soldiers of Outer Heaven. Diamond Dogs also have their very own Outer Heaven and Big Boss.
And going off MGS 4's ending MG2: Solid Snake Big Boss was swapped with Solidus last second when the identified the body hence how 4 happened
It still melts my brain that they explained the concept of Big Boss's body double from the first game so well, and now I can't help but wonder- how much of Solid Snake's training was under the real Big Boss? How much of it was under Venom Snake? For all I know it's even entirely possible that he didn't even meet the real Big Boss until Metal Gear 2. Plus given Venom's horn and scars are pretty noticable changes one has to wonder if he somehow got changed even more to better resemble Big Boss over time or if he'd only met Solid Snake during Metal Gear 1 and just figured the differences were just something that happened between training and the events of MG1. Just so many questions, I just *really* hope it's something that isn't explained in a codec call I missed or something.
It’s simple: it dosent matter. Venom thinks he’s Big Boss, therefore he is.
I remember when watching my girlfriend playing MGSV and she found out that Venom wasn't Big Boss from the start (because she noticed A LOT of stars of Bethlehem on Ahab's hospital bed) and she was like "but the other guy is Big Boss!!!" from the first minute and I had to say things like "no no, keep playing, you'll see what happens" !
Funnily enough, my friend noticed when Ismael spoke and had the same voice, he worked.out the twist too.
By the way, what's the significance of the stars of Bethlehem? How did that tip her off? I'm curious
@@ShadowVincent3 because they were The Boss' favorite flowers, and so Big Boss'!

I noticed that only now after i read this comment and then looked up the intro again
Oh wow. I forgot big boss had no sense of smell. That bit flew over my head in mgsV
I'm getting into MGS lore your channel is awsome!
Thank you so much! 😊🐍

How I envy you. The mystery is just beginning for you
Big Boss: “The real thing is always better.”
“Big Boss”: *Best gameplay in the franchise.*
For me the moment i KNEW was when it showed he still had his right eye. There was no possible way it was intact after what happened.
Kojima, since his Konami days, has been trying to tell us monoliths that hold the world together are actually built on a foundation of lies.
i love how in that time of the trailers and Pre Relase of MGSV YongYea kept shitting on your theories which turned out to be correct. In the end he didn't even admitted his own faults but tried to defend his opinions ever since then i grew to hate him. The only "reporting" he does is based on hate and shitting on companies/individuals to create drama. What a joke he is.
Wait is the original Big Boss unable to smell? Not at all?
yeah, it's a codec line you get at the very start of MGS3 when talking to the boss
you know the "remember the basics of CQC" sequence? it's pretty much in that segment, but not too sure whether it was on an optional codec call
@@SilverWolf3862 it must have been because I've never heard it. I never knew this
It’s a fourth wall break. The Boss says” you’ll just have to use your skills as a gamer” immediately after. It’s in the same vein as Miller/Liquid and Solid Snake having a conversation about how snake can’t walk slowly slowly in that game and has to run.
In MGS3 Snake says part of the reason he likes cigars better than cigarettes is the smell. Snake is talking as the player when he says he can’t smell.
@@RedlinePostal thank you, at last someone with common sense!
Just want to say I absolutely respect and appreciate you for continuing to provide such interesting MGS content. It's always a pleasure to see a new video pop up in my feed. All the best to you.
What a genius Kojima is
Uh... yeah... sure...
Just like JJ Abrams is a "genius"...

As one who knows the lore in and out, I knew something was off as soon as he woke up from his coma. First signs were the shrapnel and metal arm. But you still needed that confirmation at the end. You’re the best Python! Keep giving us more 👍
The moment I started to do that character editor at the start of the game i knew something was going to be terribly wrong. I just didn't know how long I had until they told me.
My favorite moment is when Venom realizes what’s going on and decides to continue because it’s the right thing to do
this is my first metal gear game. i was under the impression when it had me create a character i couldnt use, it was going to be one of the final bosses or something. later i found out it was me and i just felt so stupid that i couldnt see that during the entirety of the game up until the end.
It was my first game too, but I thought the custom character was for some online functionality.
Well, technically, you did customize the final boss of a different metal gear game lol
the moment you realize every game character you ever played if they where able to think would they question their own actions? would they be intelligent enough to become self aware of it.
would you?
The first time I played Truth The Man Who Sold The World (Trophy stat on PS3 says it was Sep. 9th 2015) I sat there, mouth wide open. stunned. That was the biggest twist i've ever experienced in my life. Nothing has come close to the feeling of awe and total betrayal Kojima made me feel that day.
The fact that Ishmael (Naked snake) (Big boss) (Jack) saved Venom snake then died next to him 15 minutes later.
incredible editing hits just as hard, if not harder than when you find out for the first time.
Solid snake actually kills venom snake in the first metal gear game,
And then he allegedly kills big boss in the second game but it turns out he survived in mgs 4 😵💫
Python selkan how you are the brave mgs fan even when we lost are hope of mgs return i was happy to see your videos someone uderstand me and suprising me with details i learn alot from you in mgs with you
🙏🙏
Never picked up on the smell thing, crazy.
I realized that Venom Snake wasn‘t carrying the same Snake scar on his chest as The Boss or Big Boss. But I was too young to properly understand the meaning behind it. Peace Walker was my first MGS game and after the end of MGS5, I was blown away. And I felt proud of myself for at least noticing it hahahaha.
This edit should have been in the fucking game it kind of gives away the plot in the best way possible with all the clips I mean after all there was some Clues playing the game
Hypnotherapy can implant memories on you but no new languages.... Bad for me, I'd love to learn japanese using hypnotherapy
I got goosebumps. Great video!
i never realized until i went back to the game recently but the camera sometimes acts like a second character like when at the devil's house venom stays with shibani but we go to the curtain to see skullface so the cinematography might have hinted at the the reveal of venom as well
Damn, what an amazing video, great job.
knowing what i know now about mgs5 and having hardly played mgs5 - due to being stuck on many other games/things when it came out - i know i need to play it and finally may do so as i do the entire playthrough of all the mgs titles (incl. the spinoffs like ghost babel) in story order. mgs3, po, peace walker, mgs5, mg, mg2ss, mgs1, 2, 4!
i played mgs3 on the 3ds first, then peace walker on an emulator and mgs5 on the pc. The snake tattoo venom is missing, the imitation cigar, these two things made me question wether or not i was the real big boss, and it struck me when i found out that i wasnt him
This twist pissed me off so much.
Very first scene waking up from the hospital… “Hey there Ahab, you can call me Ishmael.” From the legendary book of Moby Dick you’d know Ahab was indeed the Captain of the ship… but Ishmael was the Native American tracker who was really hunting the whale himself while giving Ahab the credit. He was always leading the way.
I never directly picked up the little details like that on my first run but I do remember feeling something wasn't right about Snake the entire time. The voice change was a big factor to that but I understood why they did it once the reveal you're the medic was made. I never thought it was weird how Ocelot had to explain everything to Snake because the entire MGS series was like that. Very 4th wall breaky and over explained simple things a lot. Like Otacon at the beginning of MGS2 telling Snake things he should obviously already know.
Kojima never fails to troll us somehow Lol.
Now that would make since why they have a different voice actor to play as Snake too. I mean Keifer is a good actor/voice actor but i remember being disappointed for them replacing David Hayter BUT now it makes since if thats the reason. Cuz i don't mind Snake and Big Boss having the same voice 😂 David is dope af
"They played us like a damn fiddle!"
That was great! And at the end of Phantom Pain he smashes Snake's reflection in the mirror, he knows he's not Venom..
The moment I saw Venom Snakes missing arm.
The biggest clue is that you have to make an avatar for apparently no reason till the final revelation
