fuckin goosebumps dude, its not an exaggeration to say that this is one of the greatest moments put on screens, games, cinema, tv... what a beautiful scene
The way I've interpreted this scene is. On the back wall while big boss reveals that venom is his double, the diamond dogs logo is on the door. When he goes to put in the intrude tape the logo become and outer heaven logo. The way I see it, venom knew he wasn't big boss for about 10 years, while he was still operating diamond dogs, when we see the outer heaven logo on the door, its ten years later and venom is about to face solid snake during operation intrude. Venom sees the reflection, his counterpart, the real big boss. He sees him for what he truly is, a demon. V punches the mirror to wipe away all of that, and sees his true reflection, the non demon snake. He walks away into the darkness as he goes to take on solid snake. Thats just an interpretation.
Yes! Thank you I thought I was the only one it just feels like that's what we're seeing and with the game not being 100% complete I feel These last cutscene would have been longer especially when he punched the mirror, it's as if venom is relistening the tapes and realising he was betrayed by naked snake and was just another pawn in the boss and zeros game, knowing that big boss has sent someone I.e solid to erase him before he becomes a major threat to his plans. Venom for me is by far one of the most complex characters who's story isn't even fully fleshed out which is sad, shame on you Konami
@@spikey288 Seeing this 2 years later and I'm dead laughing. Indeed, he knew he wasn't naked... Litteraly XD Joke aside, I think that's precisely because of the dummy minds such as mine who easily get the wrong idea off of a sentence haha.
My theory here is the Phantom Big Boss (Venom) becomes evil after the recording as you can see his reflection become bloody and his horn elongated. This would explain how evil he is in the original Metal Gear on the NES.
This sins the average person commits on a regular basis are already sometimes crushing for us to deal with. Games make it seem like nothing, but the brutality that Venom witnesses daily is so much more than you and I see. Death and pain and loss constantly, and V is made to be the perpetuator of it. Thats a heavy burden. MGS has always poked at its audience for enjoying the killing, and maybe we are just too desensitized to notice how 'evil' we become taking part in it. Just look at how V smirks when Boss tells him that he is Big Boss. Thats us smirking.
I think about 10 years pass between Phantom Pain and MG1. Considering the drama that occurred for Venom only during the events of TPP, you can imagine what kind of person you may turn into after 10 more years of that.
I think people misunderstood this scene, the way I see it is that Venom snake is absolutely not happy with big boss at the end and him smashing the mirror shows this. I’ve always thought as the reflection as the real Big Boss staring back.
@@jciehxudhdudhdw At first (2:36), Venom was proud to take the role of Big Boss. Then fast forward 10 years later, figuratively covered in bloods (3:43), He was angry now he sees how ugly it became.
Phantom pain is a painful sensation that seems to come from a part of the body that no longer exists (it has been amputated due to injury or illness). Venom Snake feels the pain of losing his lost memories, replaced by the memories of Big Boss... It's like a hand that has been replaced with a biorhandle. Probably "Demon Snake" is the personification of Phantom pain... the pain of loss... soldiers, Paz, and memories. After all, 'Demon Snake' appears exactly when Venom personally kills his soldiers. And although the memories and soldiers can not be returned, Venom still gets rid of the pain when he breaks the mirror, realizing who he is.
Venom Snake BB on his story, and Naked Snake becomes a phantom, the game is about the pain of the phantom, be it Naked Snake, be it Venom Snake, forced to live as a phantom, a shadow without his own history, his own indentity, a true phantom alone with his pain.
something i also noticed is that the mirror reflection of him is like looking at a snake, because the eye patch in the reflection is the wrong side (like solid snake with the solid eye) but when he smashes the mirror out, it becomes just the image of big boss walking away into the smoke i interpret this like venom is the true big boss, in his mind at least, and maybe even kojimas. like he’s the one who actually fought in the dirt and blood with his brethren and is a true leader. the actual bit boss is a distorted version of jack that the boss (joy) would never want him to be. but venom is exactly the kind of man joy hoped he’d become.
Kojima wants to breed a snake through his audience that will use his ideologies to shape the world. This is the message in all his games, he saying that ANYONE can be snake given that we do things that make us into snake. One of them being through the means of philanthropy, or the formation of a group which aligns with the sons of liberty. We as the players are venom, we created him, named him after us. Big Boss isn't talking to him, he's talking to us. The audience is being manipulated by Kojima through the means of hypnosis just like venom. we arent playing the game, the game has been playing us this whole time. Kojima wants to change the world, through the players, you will see newer and different messages within his new project death Stranding, hes trying to tie his games to other forms of expression such as music, movies, video games, persons of influence etc. we will all find out soon
@Brett Yarborough It is hard to compare these two games. MGS series was made over near two decades and surely it garnered massive audience and with that some bias. MGS is over, maybe Konami will use it in future but without Kojima it will be at best generic stealth shooter, without intricate touches and most important meta narration. DS is really fresh and about completly different topic and surely it has its own share of problems, it is not for everyone but it shows mastery of Kojima, how it is ahead and doesn't run from trying new things that in end make many people be fond of it. I enjoyed this game a lot, finished after 70 hours and still have many more things to do and find. What I wish is to see series from Kojima, now that he is man of his own he could make new series, maybe next will be horror, but surely we will see it one day.
Not that sad dude had two lives one next to big boss, and one as him. What a sweet thing for the actual boss to tell the medic. He knew it was a shitty situation.
That twist was masterfully executed from the very first time we boot Ground Zeroes to the end of Mission 50. Fits nicely in a story about the pursuit for revenge and rebuilding.
So this guy was a medic? Who was forced to take the identity of The Greatest Soldier of all time? Somehow a random medic can do the same things as the original Big Boss?
Camera Man Deavon while he was on a coma, Big Boss’ experiences and memories were in constant replay in venom snakes mind slowly brainwashing him into thinking those were his and that he was THE Big Boss. Big Boss specifically chose him because he was the best soldier he had with the highest potential, I’m sure he actually taught him something personally.
I was so stunned when this scene happened. I was litterly jaw opened the whole time. It made sense why "big boss was the badguy" before. Super epic. Even though kojima was rushed as hell he still made a epic conclusion to big boss.
I looked up to you Boss. You shielded yourself with the innocent while you slithered away...leaving a hollow phantom to take your place. On one hand, I'm disgusted and betrayed... Yet on the other hand... *well played, Boss* . This may have been your most brilliant act of deception. "Snake's greatest sneak", if you will. To be placed in your shoes? There was no higher honor.
A loyalty men! A fake boss created by zero to protect the real boss but in the end, he's not mad with the boss to discover the truth. In fact is happy and feel honored to be the image of your master and mentor. Is sad in your real world we don have people like big boss, venom snake and solid snake. all fighting for a purpose, for a better future for all.
Here's what I got, big boss (naked snake) left his mark or his lingering venom to do the dirty work while building his true outer heaven. An idea distorted by naked , the boss, and maybe even the sorrow.
I feel like it's a twist and then the game was supposed to go with a final boss battle against solid snake wich we will obviously lose and the game truly ends
Venom Snake is the real Big Boss. The term big boss was given to naked snake by others. But the only person who is called Big Boss by Big Boss is... Venom himself. Get it?
What I would have preferred is that Venom was played by Kiether and Big Boss was played by David. Also I need to know what song plays in this scene! It is so epic
Now stopping to think about itm. Kojima played with us so many times... Asides of the AI pod that recognises that he is not Jack "Naked Snake", there is that moment in the beginning where Cipher invades the hospital and Ismael pees himself like he did in MGS 3 snake eater.
Ada yang mengatakan kalau ini prolog dari Metal Gear Solid 1, dan suara senjata dari kejauhan di awal scene itu adalah David (Solid Snake) yang sedang mencari Venom Snake
Man, MGS is such an amazing series, but story is a big part of it, so having the ending of Phantom Pain spoiled (not this video, I just randomly stumbled upon a video with a very straight forward title) was so crushing, and drained all of my motivation to play the game.
We love some games due to the nostalgia it gave us and it will always be one of the best game in our mind. This game made me realise that there are some games that will connect with us, minus the nostalgia factor.
3:54 to 4:19 was my favorite part that venom snake smashed the mirror and walked away and took the title of big boss protecting the real snake know as jack from msg 3 operation snake eater
Venom snake is the big boss you face in the original NES games and i still think hes the body in mgs4, not the big boss clone from mgs2 and i also think sniper wolf is quiet who had joined shadow moses as a means to kill solid snake for killing venom snake, its why emmerich says she did what she did for love
this butterfly tattoo is not random he stands for the mind and a process of changing. but the didnt get it and is still fighting with his mind. he has to remember who he is. the big boss and not venom demon semen what ever snake.
As Venom stares to the mirror, he sees the demon he will need to become to finish the task passed on to him. He has merely shared the title of Big Boss. To become Big Boss, he will need to live a life of endless battle, to strip away his humanity. All in the name of vengeance. He shatters the mirror in an attempt to push his fears aside, but he can only give a new face to the Demon of Outer Heaven.
The guy with the bandages on his face at the beginning of the game is Big Boss. The doctors in the hospital used plastic surgery and hypnotherapy to make the medic think that HE was the Boss
He isn't really a villain but someone who has no choice but to do his role for the boss but he is really loud with his actions like fighting a metal gear and taking on the russian arming with quiet it makes him my favorite snake of all
he let Huey live as he believe he shouldn't be the judge of a human life. He is a pacifist mostly, and doesn't have much of a choice but to follow Big Boss' plan
Venom Snake was the one Solid Snake killed not Naked Snake, but when Liquid Ocelot killed Snake he killed Solidus Snake not Naked Snake and when Snake killed Liquid Snake he later killed Naked Snake and thus he’s killed three snakes, Naked Snake (the big boss), Liquid Snake (his brother), and Venom Snake (his father’s other half and the Boss’s other half) make sense?

@@solidus1995 wrong, you are mixing things, one thing is big boss going underground and placing the medic as him for the medic to get the attention and for him to work in the creation of Outer heaven, all that happened in a lapse of 11 years, from 1984 to 1995. the Outer heaven uprising happened in 1995, in that moment Big Boss was commanding Foxhound so that means at some point (who knows when) he went out of hiding, it is unknown who else knew there were 2 big bosses aside from Ocelot and Miller and Zero if he was still concious, Maybe Frank Jaeger as he was sent as a foxhound operative and then he got captured. what you are stating about the patriots capturing him was in Zanzibar Land, 4 years after what happened in Outer Heaven
Actually, it was Zero's idea. Big Boss was still in a coma.

No genes, no nanomachines, just skill and his bionic arm.
It's crazy that Jetstream Sam would've just cut him apart.
I've watched this at least 20 times.
4:11 and off he goes to face Solid Snake.
@Ronnie Kray he literally goes to face solid snake, you can beat him as a boss in the original metal gear for the msx/nes
The fact that this scene is before Venom fights Solid Snake is mind blowing ( u can even see the outer heaven logo on the uniform at 0:40).
The emblem on the right sleeve is a customizable patch by the player, I had the MSF skull patch myself
@@alejandrobonilla3049You can also see the outer heaven logo in the door
So for the people whos wondering why they're calling venom a "Legend" is because hear me out..
Venom is called a "Legend" because while the real BB hides and builds outer haven, venom was risking his life by baiting the real BBs enemy and fighting just so the world's thinks his the real snake which made him more of a Legend than naked snake (John/Jack/Big Boss)
He gave everything - his entire past and life to protect Big Boss’s namesake, and he carved his own path at the same time changing the world and the legacy of the Boss forever
He simply did more than Big Boss himself under the Big Boss identity
fuckin goosebumps dude, its not an exaggeration to say that this is one of the greatest moments put on screens, games, cinema, tv... what a beautiful scene
Starting the game by creating an avatar and then totally forgetting about that until seeing him again in the mirror here was mind blowing
That's an interesting interpretation, you're pretty good....
even to this day, I love vague this is and how it was up to us to interpret the scene
You mean to say "knew he wasnt naked". He most certainly is big boss, just not naked snake.
@@spikey288 Seeing this 2 years later and I'm dead laughing.
Indeed, he knew he wasn't naked... Litteraly XD
Joke aside, I think that's precisely because of the dummy minds such as mine who easily get the wrong idea off of a sentence haha.
Venom snake was in the first metal gear kojima was attempting to make the games come full circle.
The Steam screenshot sound was pretty funny.
My theory here is the Phantom Big Boss (Venom) becomes evil after the recording as you can see his reflection become bloody and his horn elongated. This would explain how evil he is in the original Metal Gear on the NES.
What specifically makes him go evil from the recording do you think?
@@johnnieboy66 Your life is a complete lie?
It is true when he had to kill his own men he went insane and like he didnt become evil but he just went insane not sure tho

I think people misunderstood this scene, the way I see it is that Venom snake is absolutely not happy with big boss at the end and him smashing the mirror shows this. I’ve always thought as the reflection as the real Big Boss staring back.
Nah, I see in that way... when he smahes the mirror he's like "I'm the Big Boss now and at this moment this is my history"

Venom snake not only lost his arm he lost himself completely he is ghost of himself and big boss at the same time.
Venom Snake BB on his story, and Naked Snake becomes a phantom, the game is about the pain of the phantom, be it Naked Snake, be it Venom Snake, forced to live as a phantom, a shadow without his own history, his own indentity, a true phantom alone with his pain.
something i also noticed is that the mirror reflection of him is like looking at a snake, because the eye patch in the reflection is the wrong side (like solid snake with the solid eye)
but when he smashes the mirror out, it becomes just the image of big boss walking away into the smoke
i interpret this like venom is the true big boss, in his mind at least, and maybe even kojimas. like he’s the one who actually fought in the dirt and blood with his brethren and is a true leader. the actual bit boss is a distorted version of jack that the boss (joy) would never want him to be. but venom is exactly the kind of man joy hoped he’d become.

"VR huh?"

That twist was masterfully executed from the very first time we boot Ground Zeroes to the end of Mission 50. Fits nicely in a story about the pursuit for revenge and rebuilding.
For someone who’s not a snake he’s” pretty good “
He is snake tho
Is it strange that after hearing this...that I don't hate Big Boss? I feel the same way Venom Snake does... satisfied
It ain't
I think he felt both pissed and satisfied. Pissed that he was kept in the dark, but also satisfied that his boss entrusted him the legend of Big Boss
I NEVER NOTICED THIS “OUTER HEAVEN” PATCH he is WEARING at the beggining, is this a mod?
Conexão Models no, it's just the emblem he had set when the cutscene occurs.
Nope. The OH patch indicates time has passed and Venom is now leading Outer Heaven.
So this guy was a medic? Who was forced to take the identity of The Greatest Soldier of all time? Somehow a random medic can do the same things as the original Big Boss?
Well, to be fair, he was the most skilled soldier in big boss's milicia
he went through brainwashing to live the real bosses memories and learned from that
Nanomachines son! :D
Apparently he was not a random medic. Lol he was big Boss's trusted soldier

It was all a hallucination. We’re still in a coma...
I feel like it's a twist and then the game was supposed to go with a final boss battle against solid snake wich we will obviously lose and the game truly ends
Thats dumb
Venom Snake is the real Big Boss. The term big boss was given to naked snake by others. But the only person who is called Big Boss by Big Boss is... Venom himself. Get it?
As much as I like the idea for the MGS3 remake, we REALLY need remakes of the originals: MG1 & 2.
This cutscene must be few mins bevore he dies
So is he the final boss of the first metal gear game? If so, then that's freaking cool and that might explain why big boss is back in the second game.
Yes it was venom in the first metal gear
What I would have preferred is that Venom was played by Kiether and Big Boss was played by David.
Also I need to know what song plays in this scene! It is so epic
Now stopping to think about itm. Kojima played with us so many times... Asides of the AI pod that recognises that he is not Jack "Naked Snake", there is that moment in the beginning where Cipher invades the hospital and Ismael pees himself like he did in MGS 3 snake eater.
I love how this also adds a level of meta commentary like original snake is Kojima and is talking to us as like a goodbye of sorts
So Solid Snake doesn’t question why this “Big Boss” has shrapnel in his head and a missing arm?
Anyone can be a hero but anyone can also be a villain
Ada yang mengatakan kalau ini prolog dari Metal Gear Solid 1, dan suara senjata dari kejauhan di awal scene itu adalah David (Solid Snake) yang sedang mencari Venom Snake
Big Boss: so how do i convince venom to die as me?
Ocelot: just tell him he's big boss boost his morale a lil bit.
Man, MGS is such an amazing series, but story is a big part of it, so having the ending of Phantom Pain spoiled (not this video, I just randomly stumbled upon a video with a very straight forward title) was so crushing, and drained all of my motivation to play the game.

this butterfly tattoo is not random he stands for the mind and a process of changing. but the didnt get it and is still fighting with his mind. he has to remember who he is. the big boss and not venom demon semen what ever snake.
