  • My 1996 Dodge Ram with the 12 valve Cummins started losing power on the highway and when I glanced over at the fuel pressure gauge it was at 0 PSI. Quick video documenting my findings. `

    I like this because it’s the kind of common problem regular people deal with. No in depth computer analysis required

    Same problem happened to me with my airdog. Truck would hardly start and hardly had 10 psi of pressure. Changed the filters, I had 27-28 all the time. Fuel filters are always first thing you should check

    Regular diesel won't do that, unless you get a bad tank from a shady station. I change my filter every 12,000 miles as per cummins recommendation, and it always looks brand new.

  • @AndrewBrowner

    ive run about 500 liters of used oil from work through my 12v without issue so far, its all stock and i havent changed the filter since doing so, i put about 40 liters of diesel into the tank when i think its getting low and then top off with used oil, it was mostly hydraulic oil out of boom lifts as work has a rule that all fluids on all equipment need to be changed every year.. im not complaining when i get 150l of basically new hydraulic oil out of every change, its mixxed with the engine oil aswell and a little bit of gear oil from the final drives, but the vast majority is used hydraulic oil

    • @derajyellat102
      @derajyellat102 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You run mixed oils through the fuel system?

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derajyellat102 yeppp, whatever was rained out of machines at the shop went into the tote, there was a second drum there that i poured in anything nasty, if oil had metal water or nastyness in it id put it in there but engine oil, hydraulic oil, little bit of gear oil all mixxed together, used diesel too 1.50 a liter for diesel in canada right now thats almost 6$ a gallon... doesnt take much of the stuff to pay for any parts it MAY wear out faster
      goes through two filters before it enters the truck and then another on the truck, not to mention i let it settle in 1000l totes and have the pickup 6" high so it doesnt suck water or gunk off the bottom

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@derajyellat102 its nothing new people been doing it for a long time, doesnt really make sence when fuel i 60cents a liter but at 1.50$ theres no arguement its certainly worth the time and money.. looking at about 500$ minimum cost to get setup with a fuel pump, tank, hose and nozel, filter housing and filters ect and you can spend as much as you want on a setup with multiple settling tanks and centrifuges and dozen step filtering higher flowing higher quality pumps, fuel heating filtering and pumping on the truck can all be improved
      i just went the cheap route 1000l tote 50$, princess auto filter housing, napa 2micron fuel filter, a marine fuel filter/water seperator, tried a 70$ amazon pump it died got another and it died, so put the money up for a 200$ fillrite pump, one of their cheaper ones but should hopefully be built better then the chinese junk i was getting

    @safetyfirstintexas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bugs live in diesel. Theres dieselcide to treat your tank to kill the bugs. Change filter afterwards. They look exactly like whats in your filter media

      @@uslt5028 im in the same boat with similar mileage, idk if mine was done or not and i dont really wanna tare it down to find out knowing that at some point ill probably be in there anyway to change the timing, crank pulley or something along those lines.. i kind of feel like if it didnt fall out over the first 25 years and 600k km's why would it fall out at all
      although my trucks stock and i could imagine adding fuel and boost could add more stress to the timing cover as the pump is working harder, the extra force could maybe work the dowel loose but i doubt it, seems it either had the issue or didnt

      Cool, good to know. I'll definitely be changing the fuel filter before 20K this time around

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah 20k miles is probably around 4 cubes of fuel depending on how heavy the foot is, or how often it sees in town miles and towing.. think about 4 cubes of fuel going through a softball sized filter it doesnt take much grime to end up filling that filter, especially when you add any contamination that gets in during fueling, or possibly grows in the tank, i know ive certainly knocked a few pieces of dirt into my filler neck while fueling

  • @dmadere1
    @dmadere1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    PS it’s usually a weak fuel pump that causes the injector pump to go out.

    • @BrianFromZion2012
      @BrianFromZion2012 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's mostly a 24 valve problem with the vp44. P pumps can take some abuse.

    • @AndrewBrowner
      @AndrewBrowner 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianFromZion2012 yeah if you get this issue with a vp44 pull over and fix it right there or get it towed, the drive home can be enough to wreck those IP's without proper pressure.. with the p7100s if theres enough fuel to run its happy send it cross country
