    Here I do a short comparison of the OEM Carter, Ebay Carter, and DCEC mechanical fuel pumps for Cummins 6bt 12 valve engines. I had hoped that the poor quality "Ebay Carter made in USA" pump i got was the cause of my "air bubbles in fuel return line" condition. But even with the DCEC pump installed i still have little air bubbles.

    I agree with what he is saying for the most part. I have taken apart a few of the lift pumps. Aftermarket pumps seem to have different quality but just because it is made in the USA does not mean it is good quality due to extremely high labor and material cost also greed many USA company's make crap. China can make crap also or they can and do make some items that are very good. It all depends on what the importer is willing to pay for. And the sad part is many times the difference in cost is just penny's per unit but our cheap greedy corporations will demand the lowest cost so they get crap

    Great comparison video! Thank you for just getting to the point and covering the important points of distinction. I am going to try this dcec pump based on your analysis. The weep hole seems like an obvious thing to incorporate. Without that, you're just going down the road with no idea if that seal has failed, although it might create a noticeable pressure change on the guage. Again, thanks. Going to check out your other videos.

    Put an e bay 0 - 50 psi fuel regulator in your return line so as to precisely control fuel pressure in the p7100 pump cavity. Set it 2-3 psi below lift pump max.
    Check to see if your lift pump has the bypass circuit pop off valve that regulates and limits lift pump pressures. Excess pressure shunted back to intake side.

    Just a thought here on those air bubbles. Although fuel cannot be compressed, just like any other liquid it can cavitate when passing over or through moving parts. Just as a boat prop will cause air bubbles to form when spinning in water, moving pump parts (Lift and injection pumps) "might" be creating those bubbles. You've got fewer now with a higher quality pump made with tighter tolerance clearances in the moving parts.
    Just a thought.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I agree with you. After making this video I did some more research, and that seems to be the case. But I was hoping maybe some Cummins 12 valve expert would come on here and school me haha. So I know for sure. Bubbles or no bubbles the truck runs like a dream, so I'm happy about that.

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CptJera yeah having the lifetime warranty is definitely a great perk! You can try letting the air out of the front tires to bring the truck down a little bit and that would help out getting in there. Just make sure that the cam lobe that drives the fuel pump is on its flattest Point. Basically so when you're putting the new pump on you don't have to depress the plunger very much. It's easy to put a scratch in the cam if not careful.

    In regards to the air bubbles in the fuel stream, has anyone tried an AirDog pump with the separate water and fuel filters? Albeit they are spendy upfront they are reported to remove the air bubbles from the fuel. I bought a '79 Jeep J20 long bed with a '95 12v in it; its my 1st diesel ever and is proving to be quite the learning experience. Due to lack of maintenance by the PO(s) it keeps crapping out and dying on me. I've got an auxiliary fuel tank/tool box combo (Handy FT-50-A, no longer supporting this unit) that I want to use instead of the current tank. I'm leaning to the AirDog FP100 to filter and push the fuel to the CDEC lift pump; I plan to upgrade the AirDog fuel and water filters to FleetGuards. Am I going crazy missing something here? I need to get up and going ASAP!

    • @NoNonsenseKnowHow
      @NoNonsenseKnowHow  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Johnny Appleseed thank you for your input. I was under the assumption that the delivery valves are on the pressure side so would leak fuel instead of allowing air in. I did bypass the injector return line thinking that maybe I had a bad injector seal allowing combustion gases to enter the fuel system. Still have the little bubbles. and as far as installing a sump, I don't think that will help me either seeing as how I bypassed the entire fuel system by hooking a fuelsupply hose directly to the lift pump. thanks again and let me know if you think of anything else

    Got a question for you on my 12v Cummins ppump 215 h.p truck bone stock except 90 h.p injectors and a exhaust.
    Ok so this is the truck my dad and me use to pull our trailer for our business and he has owned it for some time well recently it started missing so I tossed in injectors seemed like it fixed it drove it and it came back so I checked his fuel filter changed it helped but came back so I put a new overflow for the return in helped but it returned recently I pulled the sending unit and removed the tank screen because it was filthy and I could not find any replacements offered so I figured it's got a filter and I plan to run a custom filter system myself when the miss is fixed once again it helped then went back to missing so I'm about to toss a lift pump in it and see how that works on it since the pump is a 220k pump as far as I know I also ran some of the biocide fuel treatment in the tank and it seemed to help but didn't fix it.
    And I have noticed it only wants to miss when it gets warmed up and you either got the trailer and weight on it at low RPM or you put it in 4th gear at like 25 to 30 and gently accelerate and it will do it's bucking but stomp some on the throttle and it seems to go away
    is there any direction you could point me to on this problem?

Its designed to basically act the same as a water pump bleed hole. Put that pump on now it holds 28-30 lbs of pressure at idle and runs better than it ever has even on a hot day. Also you have to be absolutely !! sure you have no air leaks even a pipe thread fitting with no sealer will make hard starting after sitting for a few hours. You wont see a leak .
