Thanks for this video. I have a 2014 Silverado 3500 HD with dual tanks (gas) I've spent over 4k in the past 3 months to get it to run right, even $1400 at the dealer, and they even send me on my way not know how to fix it. I'm going to test out the fuel pressure and look into the pumps next. I've already replaced: knock sensors, all 8 injectors, all 8 coil pack plugs and wires, mass air flow sensor, tps sensor, o2 sensors, both cats. I was at a loss until this video.
Okay so I began the process of replacing my fuel filter. Following a video I removed my gas cap, started my vehicle, removed the fuel pump relay, and let it die out to relieve fuel pressure, disconnected my negative cable on battery and then I was interrupted for about 45 minutes. Replacing my filter had to be put on hold. I replaced my gas cap, reinserted relay, connected negative cable, turned key to on position, turned back to off position, waited for 20 seconds or so and then started vehicle. Started same as usual but then began to bog out idle high a few times I guess trying to stay on then idle began to decrease gradually. Just before idle needle reached 0 it paused there for barely a second and then vehicle shut off. Now vehicle will start but then just die right back out. Love your videos and trust your professional diagnosis. Need your help ASAP. This isn't only my personal vehicle it's also transportation for 4 members in household. Every job in jeopardy. Working on this all day and night until fixed. What do I do???
Idk how often y'all go back to old comments on old videos but working on a 98 lumina 3.1l. The car starts fine at first then dies out of no where. When it dies it doesn't want to start other than just continuous cranking. Fuel pressure drops about 10psi within 20 to 25seconds. The pressure regulator has suction when car is running. It primes up to 40 when key is turn to on position. I do hear clicking where the fuel injectors are but not sure if that's just what they do. My truck don't make that sound when just primed but her lumina does. had good vacuum n what not when car was running and pulles hose off of regulator. From what I was told the pressure regulator is activated via suction so when car is on. She's had new battery, new spark plugs and wires, fuel injectors, o2 sensor (one of em), gas cap, maf, and fuel filter replaced. Still same issue. Dies out of no where and doesn't want to start
The spark plug tip was grade A helpful. I am going to pull out my plugs and hope that is the issue. After all the videos I have watched and also the various sources of text-based information I feel I am starting to narrow down the issue I am having.
This is great you explain things in a easy to understand way so many people show so many different ways to do things and that gets people who are new to this confused thanks
I have a 98 Jeep ZJ I just purchased with the 4.0 and this video has helped me tremendously on how to use a fuel gauge properly. I've purchased from you before with great results and will do the same if my pump turns out bad. Question: I found my fuel fill-up compartment is busted down at the bottom inside where the gas cap seats and the little flapper door is broken and pushed to the side...... I'm hoping that is the problem and i need to borrow my buddies fuel gauge. Hence this video is a big help. Thanks and Merry Christmas 🙂
You may want to rethink ( turn the key to on position and the fuel pump should/will run unless the pump is bad ) some vehicles , the pump does not run in the key on position , the pump runs while the engine is cranking and the pump continues to run if the engine starts - 99 corolla for example . You can hook a fuel pressure gauge direct to the fuel tank to isolate a fuel problem in the tank , or hook the gauge into the whole fuel system , its best to check both ways , you can find out if you have a problem on one end of the system , or on both ends of the system , now , do what ever you want , its yours .................
Len did good on the video however i felt that he couk have went more in depth with the fuel pressure gauge he ran through the demonstration to fast and i would have liked to see every step of him attacking the gauge and seeing the results overall he done a great job /// my question to him is how do i get the fuel pressure up to regulation on my Toyota sequoia 2003 to allow it to start ??
Len ! love your videos ! did my serpentine thanks to you piece of cake. now i have a stalling issue with my 2012 ram 1500 5.7....ive done the plugs, serpentine, throttle body cleaning, pcv valve...it stalls at the stop sign. the rpm dips below 6000 an it stalls. if i tap the gas pedal when it starts to dip, it wont stall. i hope i can avoid a fuel pump change. it had a trouble code po463 that went away with a fuel injection cleaning. next thing i will be doing is to check MAFS, MAPS, EGR VALVE, IAC
Same here but with a 2017 Kia Rio! Works perfectly then once it gets hot it starts to stall at stop signs. Or if I fill it up with gas it will stall- unless I start it while stomping on the gas lol
Outstanding video !!! Informative and accurate. His explanation made absolute sense and covered the issues my car was having. Replacing the pressure regulator solved my problem. Thanks dude, you saved me losts of cash for a mechanic.
You are the man......I have an 2008 nissan pathfinder and I have somewhat the same issue. I turn the key and no prime for the fuel. I'm assuming it's the fuel pressure regulater. I've checked the fuel pump, relay and fuses and they're all good. Any ides are welcomed, but I'm replacing that fuel pressure regulater tomorrow.....wish me luck
I like your video. I have a Chevy s10 4.3 that has sit for 6 years with about 1/2 tank of fuel. I put a battery in it and filled it with fuel leaving the old fuel in it. Drove it about 100 miles and suddenly it lost power and stalled and run piss poor. Could only drive it about 5 miles an hour to get it home. Put about 5 cans of fuel cleaner and fuel booster with injector cleaner in it. Each day now I start it and let it run until it dies. Noticed the fuel pump makes a louder noise since this happened. It seems to run a little smoother each day. Hoping it will clear up in a week or so. Thanks for the video.
I have these issues, made a video with my phone with a manometer cranking and my mechanic says replace the pump. But i think better also filter and pressure regulator then. Thanks a lot!
Awesome video and your awesome I changed the fuel pressure regulator on a 460 Ford on a class A motor home and it's still loosing power when I'm driving it and it will bog down and sputters but on park I can rev it up fine so I'm thinking now it's the catalytic converter or o2 sensors or fuel filter the air filter is fine or maybe the spark plugs which will be next the fuel pump is working fine too maybe the fuel injectors but I put injector cleaner so let's see what I find thanks my friend.
This came just in time. My car that just got repaired won’t start and it’s not the starter.. and my beater vehicle stalls while I’m driving.. then takes forever to start again at times! FUEL PRESSURE/FUEL PUMP IS A REAL THING !
Ha just picked up my 96 Tahoe that had a leaking regulator. Had the shop change out the old central port fuel injector to the updated multi port interior since the regulator was on it(might as well right). Oh baby she drives great now.
Super cool video. But he didn't cover diagnosing fuel pressure drops at the injector end or the fuel pump side of the fuel system. In other words, is the system leaking down before the fuel rails or after?
Very informative. I changed my fuel injectors because my car was running rich and I could smell a heavy petrol scent near the engine. When I changed them my car was running a lot smoother however still some hesitation on startup and fuel scent. While I changed them I could see that my intake valves were MASSIVELY caked with carbon deposits. Could this be the cause of my car running rich and having a hesitation om startup? Or should I check fuel pressure regulator? I am going to clean my intake valves this month just to be safe, but maybe you guys know? Best wishes from the Netherlands 🍀
I like his great explanations about symptoms and his way of describing what the function of a particular part does. He also doesn't start jibber jabbing about crap that has nothing to do with the subject being discussed. I do wonder when a vehicle begins to be a older model. When he says older models the check engine light most likely will not come on concerning fuel issues. LOL! when is a human considered old so to speak. Are you old when you are 40, 60, or 70
Great video!! I have a 08 5.3, torqstorm, all stock block, upgraded aeromotive 340 fuel pump and 80lb injectors. At times I'd have to bled my fuel rail to start my truck. Idk what's causing this.
In my '87 Ford 5.0L, fuel pressure is relative to the intake manifold, so the gage reading (relative to atmosphere) will drop with engine running, and can vary at least 10 PSI as you blip the throttle. The fuel tank is flat and sloshes badly even when fuel level is low. The resulting weight transfer makes it much more difficult to manage (and more dangerous) than you would think, so I made an attachment for my floor jack that supports the tank more widely AND also keeps the jack itself from tipping over. This has come in handy for transmissions that like to roll off the jack.
Wow GREAT video! loved every minute. Did not know any of this because never had an issue and i have been a Holley carburetor since 1977; about 4yrs ago i had a problem like this and i added and inline fuel pump and it solved the problem BUTT i know it is not proper; Thankx for this video because now i know what to basically look for on a problematic 1995 Blazer 4.3L engine
Exactly what happened to my wife's Tahoe and what's happening to my camaro. I'm in the process of figuring out how to get the gas out of the tank because she filled it up before it stopped running. I'm also having stuttering in my Camaro on acceleration, and I have to turn the car on for 10 seconds before I push start it, or else (3 times outta 10) it won't start.
Thank you very much. Basically all the information needed about fule system. But what I didn't understand is why did you need to change the sending unit if the problem is the fule pressure regulator?
Excellent vid!!! Learn heaps!! Probably 'solved' my stalling problem on my 2009 Kia Carnival. Now onwards, I will keep my tank at least half full and get a pressure gauge tester to monitor my fuel line pressure. What do you know about 'sticky' fuel pump? Is that also due to low fuel, overheating, bad fuel? Worn parts, time to change? Thanks. Frank
Great video, and thanks for posting. I had a leaking fuel filter on the tank side of the filter. I put a hose clamp on both sides of the filter and that seems to have fixed the leak. There was and is a 2-3 second delay in combustion before and after I fixed the filter leak. I've suspected that it might be the pressure regulator causing the delay. Your video makes me lean that way even more now. And, yesterday I noticed for the first time evidence of a small fuel leak just below the pressure regulator but also very close to the fuel rail connector. I have an '02 Taurus DOHC Duratec engine. I assume there's a replaceable O-ring on that fuel rail connector ?
I pulled the fuel pump out of my 2002 Honda CRV. I sat the pump in a little bit of gas and turned the key. The fuel pump was pumping fuel but it was very weak flow. At the shredder valve there is nearly no pressure at all.
Thank you. I love your videos. I have a 1999 Buick LeSabre that is not starting, sputtering, and killing at very inconvenient times. The mechanic estimated $650.00 to replace or repair the "fuel pulsator" he called it. Unfortunately I have NOT found much information on "pulsators" or "pulse dampeners." I also have not found the location of said part. I can't look at the car yet to verify that it has a fuel pressure regulator, but I'm quite sure it does have one. Is the fuel pressure regulator the same part as a fuel pulsator or fuel dampener?
Good video. What percentage of a total fuel tank capacity, a driver of car is to maintain always in order to have a good health of fuel sending unit ? ❤❤❤ from india.
My 2010 GMC Sierra starts up but runs weak for a second. It's done this for a while. Never seen a code, but I'm positive live data would catch it. It also only happens when the truck sits for a while like the fuel is settling.
2003 corvette manual trans. Following diagnosis. Hard start, start no idle, start, idles but stalls under load. Pressure gauge bouncing violently. Replaced fuel pressure /filter canister with WIX unit. Engine started and held idle but gauge reading was bouncing between 50-65 psi. Did road test, engine stalled, no start, needed tow to get home. Next day did pressure test, engine held idle and pressure held constant at 65psi. Ran rpm to 5k several times, trans in neutral p brake on with no issues. A bout 4 hours later checked gauge and it was down to zero. Turned key to on, pressure at gauge still zero. Remove gauge from rail. no fuel leaked out. Rail was empty. I hesitate do road test as tow is expensive. Fuel injectors were replaced 2months ago with engine upgrade. Had dyno tune ran great until a week ago. What am I missing.
Wow, very informative needed to hear all of this information. I will send this video to my Dad. Hopefully, it will give an idea of what's going on with my car. I have a 2009 Pontiac G6 pushing around 214,000 miles. As soon as I am about to take a turn, my steering wheel gets hard, and my gas pedal is hard as well. But all my lights are still on in my car. I can shift gears easily with no problems, but it will not go at all. But the few times it has done that, I never took notice to hear if my engine was still running or not. Had someone to place it on a machine, but no codes pulled up at all. So any information or a possibility of what might be the problem would be helpful.
16:18 What would be the reason for the needle not smoothing out? You know everything else about the fuel system. Don't leave me hangin' with I'll have to continue with my diagnosis?
hi, thanks for sharing knowledge, I experienced something similar to your explanation. I have a ford focus automatic transmission vehicle which has a problem when it is started it takes a long time to start the engine and the code P0087 appears on the speedo check engine light display. What is the easiest solution you can give me to solve this problem?
Crazy how I'm experiencing slow acceleration as we speak. I tried changing the spark plugs, spark plug coils, mass air flow sensor, and even the air filter lmao. I went to get a fuel pump, and my "trustee" mechanic said to return it. 2006 toyota camry 2.4. There is no check engine light ever. Which made it so difficult that I caved in and brought it to the Toyota dealership. They said without a check engine light, they can't really determine the actual problem. But my nutso brain is telling me between the throttle body and/or the fuel pump. Or now, from research, maybe the O2 sensor smh. Sheesh. P.S: I've done a OBD2 reading at auto zone, no codes were present.
Great video, 2010Yukon XL, 6.2L , what if you have the leak back in morning which would think regulator or dripping fuel injectors. What if you have the drip back And you have a Rich burning system. Both banks burning rich? Would you think fuel regulator also? Thank you, I have had a very hard time finding this problem

Thanks I watched the video, and I tested my dodge ram gas pressure and as you said the needle in the pressure gage should remain almost steady but my pressure regulator needle is bouncing crazy, I assuming I got a problem with the gas pump but certanly I don't know 100% Question it is for this cause the gas pump week or still the chance that it might be a leaking injector.???

Dies out of no where and doesn't want to start
love this guys enthusiasm
The spark plug tip was grade A helpful. I am going to pull out my plugs and hope that is the issue. After all the videos I have watched and also the various sources of text-based information I feel I am starting to narrow down the issue I am having.
This guy knows his stuff 💯
So many informations - thank you so much, many years of experience put into 20mins, God bless you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for this explanation. Thorough and clear. Gonna get my pump changed out.
Outstanding video !!! Informative and accurate. His explanation made absolute sense and covered the issues my car was having. Replacing the pressure regulator solved my problem. Thanks dude, you saved me losts of cash for a mechanic.
Thank you for this info. I really believe you have just helped me with my 2000 Honda Cr-v problem
definitely gonna implement this knowledge on my "Verichle"
I thought the video was very thorough the gentleman explained it very well and I appreciate thank you much
You are the man......I have an 2008 nissan pathfinder and I have somewhat the same issue. I turn the key and no prime for the fuel. I'm assuming it's the fuel pressure regulater. I've checked the fuel pump, relay and fuses and they're all good. Any ides are welcomed, but I'm replacing that fuel pressure regulater tomorrow.....wish me luck
Did it work?
Useful comprehensive fuel troubleshooting advice. Thanks 1A.
Knowledgeable, professional and great speaker just like all the other people of 1A Auto I have had the pleasure to listen to..
Bro did a 19 minute workout doing nothing but hand jesters 😂 🏋🏽♂️
😅
+Doctor Spazz Thanks for the feedback!
@@1AAuto car stalling won't start sometimes battery also die and jerk .sometimes it start sometimes not
Ha just picked up my 96 Tahoe that had a leaking regulator. Had the shop change out the old central port fuel injector to the updated multi port interior since the regulator was on it(might as well right). Oh baby she drives great now.
+Bobbie Cooper Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Thank you so much for the insightful and lucid explanations.
Glad it was helpful! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-Now
I like his great explanations about symptoms and his way of describing what the function of a particular part does. He also doesn't start jibber jabbing about crap that has nothing to do with the subject being discussed. I do wonder when a vehicle begins to be a older model. When he says older models the check engine light most likely will not come on concerning fuel issues. LOL! when is a human considered old so to speak. Are you old when you are 40, 60, or 70
Good video and funny and learned 🤣 alot loved it but can't find a fuel pressure test port 🤬😡😠😭
Great video!! I have a 08 5.3, torqstorm, all stock block, upgraded aeromotive 340 fuel pump and 80lb injectors. At times I'd have to bled my fuel rail to start my truck. Idk what's causing this.
Very helpful...I'm getting fuel up to the fuel rail but not coming through the injectors🤷♂️...my question is could it be a weak fuel pump?
Unless it’s a pop it inject, but a computer controlled injector should just open but not open based on pressure but electronic control
Very well done! A+. A skilled and knowledgeable presenter.
+Ralph J Cibula Thanks for the feedback!
You guy's put out really good videos I will get me a fuel gage and scanner, thank you!!

Just want to know where you guys are located at most people here don't know nothing about fixing my truck and is all about the money.
Thank you very much. Basically all the information needed about fule system. But what I didn't understand is why did you need to change the sending unit if the problem is the fule pressure regulator?
On some cars the regulator is inside the pump and make more sense to replace the whole thing
I want to say thank you your videos help me with my 99dodge ram 1500 5.2.
Glad to hear that!
Good video full of real detail !!! On another topic, have you considered uploading a Dance Video ???
Not yet!
Thanks. Frank
This channel is like ChrisFix but you get to see the guy explaining it :D
Galing. Naintindihan ko namn. .po

Very good explanation and demonstration information about safety and DIY Thanks 👍👌🔧🙏💐

So any information or a possibility of what might be the problem would be helpful.
ran across u on accident but heard about u from another vid. U rock n I hope good on u. can't wait to work on my suv.. thx 😊
16:18 What would be the reason for the needle not smoothing out? You know everything else about the fuel system. Don't leave me hangin' with I'll have to continue with my diagnosis?
Very detail. Great job on the explanation. Now I know what my problem might be.
Excellent, excellent, EXHAUSTIVE video!
hi, thanks for sharing knowledge, I experienced something similar to your explanation.
Loose diesel injector seals will also cause low pressure, nip them up or replace if the engine has higher mileage or 10+ yrs old.
I have a 96 12 valve that takes longer to start then usual. N she seems to be loss throttle response. I just did 165 air dogs like 2 months ago. Ran good. Now I have no idea
Very descriptive in the diagnosis.
+jim kwan Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
great info. u should think about making a 3 part video. 4 the novice, alot of fast info.
like a trouble tree diagnosis..
+Borg Simpson Thanks for the feedback! We'll pass this info along to our production team.
This is hard to watch . This guy is lit ! His movements, his speech patterns, his pupils . Lay off the speed my guy. And is it just me or did he almost throw up in his mouth between 9:02 and 9:03 ? " fuel pressure (gag) ok friends"
Thanks I watched the video, and I tested my dodge ram gas pressure and as you said the needle in the pressure gage should remain almost steady but my pressure regulator needle is bouncing crazy, I assuming I got a problem with the gas pump but certanly I don't know 100%
Question it is for this cause the gas pump week or still the chance that it might be a leaking injector.???
One of the BEST videos ever!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
