  • The INTP personality type is often thought of as being one of the smartest MITB personalities, this also comes with the perception that they are one of the laziest of the 16 personality types.
In this video will go through why the INTP is so smart but also lazy, it has a lot to do with INTPs and analysing. Most of the work somebody with an INTP personality does, takes place discretely inside their heads.
We will also go through 7 tips on overcoming procrastination, to help INTPs who feel like they are forever stuck inside their own brains.
Do you feel like you can't break free from your own mind?
Let me know in the comments bellow how you deal with procrastination!
If you are of INTP personality type, comment one personality trait you love and one personality trait that you dislike.
As always thanks for watching this presentation by iTraits.

Yes I am perceived as lazy.
How do I deal with it??
I don't. Lol, I just feel guilty about it and when I slap myself hard enough I just randonly do it.

It can be hard to deal with as you can feel like your stuck in a viscous cycle, I’m INTP myself and suffer with people perceiving me as being lazy.
Just make small changes at a time and they can make big differences to your productivity.

Daniel Wurzer 9 out of 10 things i procrastinate on will dissapear before i get round to it.
Like making a call and before i do it they call me. Or when i should make a doctor’s appointment and i feel better before i actually call to make the appointment. Or i really need to start on this project and two days before it’s due i hear it’s not relevant anymore. So glad i didn’t waste my energy on that.. i tend to get rewarded for my ‘lazyness’ all my life. That doesn’t motivate me to ‘get busy’.

iTraits or maybe it’s a good thing. Because then they try have to watch it again and get distracted by the comments. Start again and then think of a completely different theory that has been humming in their head for the last few days. Start over and think of a song after hearing a specific combination of words, again and get distracted by the meaning of a proverb, and then finally click once more and getting most of what is said and simultaniously writing a silly but weirdly accurate comment. Thus getting 5 clicks from one viewer...

This is a matter of delayed gratification and incorporating it into your discipline. I will not act like it was easy for me, I had the same mindset as you.
I'm trying to encapsulate my process in a way that can be repeated and I know i cant. You have to fight for the change you want, and use all the tools at your disposal. The reward strategy never worked for me cuz I didn't have something I wanted more. Even then I still had to get fed up with my procrastination and using the rewards when I was bored..to the point of abuse.
In the end, a super detailed schedule, that keeps me accountable to as many moments throughout my week is what is helping. As long as I'm busy with what I need to do, I don't have time for Bordem.
Incorporating the activities that I would pass the time with when I'm bored, as rewards for achieving milestones does help me feel like I'm not missing out.
IDK where you are in your journey so this may not be valuable to you. Just know that you have everything you need to do what you want. You need to fit it all into the right pattern so the machine actually runs perpetually. Good luck

For avoiding procrastination I try to involve myself in different tasks at the same time, but having a notepad where I put all my tasks in order to not forget them, so I can jump into any task if I get bored of one, at the end of the day or week depending on the deadline I have my work done. Also involve exercise of any kind to keep my mind fresh, as some push-ups between tasks if I get very bored or just swimming at the end of the day.

This is painfully accurate in so many ways. As a dentist, my income and motivation is lower than any other colleague and I have avoided gatherings like reunions for fear of embarrassment. (Of course, other than dentistry, I have nothing in common with most of them.) Yet I enjoy the field and my patients love my unique approach, dedication to perfection, and compassion. Unfortunately recently a house fire destroyed my practice. This is devastating for an INTP. Now I have to pack up the house, an insurmountable task given my (and my wife's) endless collections and accumulations, and of course, I have procrastinated. Now I've finally taken the steps suggested in this video and I am motivated to get it done. Unfortunately, in the off time, I still dwell on the fact that if I had started earlier I wouldn't have to be rushing now. This is the way my life has gone for all of my 65 years.

What I got sick of was when I was young people telling me I was lazy and couldn't mount to much and I used pure tenacity to prove them wrong.
My strategy to combat "laziness" has been to push myself into scenarios that are not easy for me but I wanted, and that I have to commit to and find ways to adapt and overcome.
I still need my space and can get overwhelmed with the urge to switch off.
Until I discovered mbti about 2 years ago when I had my first child, there was alot I didn't understand and had never met anyone like myself, I'm 38 now. I always saw patterns in other people behaviours but never met anyone like me.
Learning about MBTI and INTP, it was like a light bub moment! That all the missing bits had just fit together and finally I understood my framework.
I guess for me it was my environment that moulded me using my framework rather than using my framework to mould me and my environment, I still get days and weeks were I procrastinate and my wife can get a little miffed about it which can be the kick I need to get going again but at the end of the day if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck... it's still a duck!
Everyone will find there own way!!

to all my INTPs this includes me
as a procrastinator it really is nice to chill but it waste time to do the main job. So I usually have a way to finish something and it takes more than 100% of your will power to us INTPs and its to Do when You receive.
Its when you have received the project or job to do, you immediately do it no matter what. I realize when we focus a lot, we use that as an advantage to finish the job. So if you do the project the time you reveive it, you save time and it will be less stressful in the long run. It helps but its still difficult to do.
so just exercise everyday for an hour just to keep your mind scheduled

while I personally find daily excercise very useful in keeping my mind on track throughout the day, one of the points raised by itraits in the video is not to rush tasks while trying to avoid procrastination but to take it in small chunks- any takers on how to go about this ?

    • @TitaniumTronic

I wake up everyday, stay in bed watching youtube for around an hour, get up, get a sandwich, move to the couch, watch more youtube, postpone lunch til I forget it and boom it's dinner and my mom is yelling at me saying I don't eat anymore, so I eat, rush it, get told to wash the dishes, wash the dishes, shower, straight to bed, watch youtube til I pass out.
Oh and occasionally, like one day before the deadline for schoolwork my mom would interrogate me whether I've done my school work so then I panic then I would rush and do them all in one night then sleep in, then repeat the cycle.
I only do my responsibilities when I feel threatened, HELP ME.

  • @elm1230
    @elm1230 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Scarily accurate, and super helpful. Honestly, thank you! How I’ve been achieving my goals is to just remind myself of why I’m doing what I’m doing. I also make it an effort to surround myself with my inspirations, literally. Like I have many artists of all manner of medium I admire deeply, I channel my passion for learning about them into positive action for my life. I tack their pictures up all over my walls in mini shrines. This alarms guests lol but I know seeing them removes the “fog” and doubt for me. When I’m stumped, I can look at xyz and recall I read their method for working, or things they’ve done in their careers to achieve a milestone. It just reminds me that if I’m going to get anything done worthwhile in my life, I have to adopt the traits of those who won’t necessarily take so much time to get something done. And that can be any task. You just have to be honest too, and realize that you don’t have time for perfection. Tackling something everyday or in practice makes whatever you’re doing easier as well. With more engagement and experience earned, the fear laced in perfectionism is replaced with confidence. So when that INTP trait of tackling a goal or project in a burst of energy kicks in, you can allow it to kick in sans the voice that analyzes and immobilizes you. Second nature is a friend. With practice, comes ease. You just have to throw yourself into, accept that it might suck, but what you’re investing your time into will eventually get easier! And the more you learn about something, the more confident about it you’ll be.

This was painfully depressing but also very accurate... Luckily, I have beaten much of the bad habits we have, and sharpened the good sides, it just took a lot of years of confusion and failure, trying to understand myself and the whole world. But learning about MBTI was an eye opener. And if we really want, we can use our "superpowers" to turn our "bad shit" to something that look like greatness. The power of analyzing and look critically on everything, we can use on ourselves if we also learn to see our greatness and potential. Keep it fun and structuated and "your" why will take you a long way.
Today I’m working in engineering and using much of the things we are good at as my advantage (Analyzing, problem-solving, and think out of the box/creativity)
And efter years of not earning much i dont need much but now i make an ok high pay, It feels like the "comeback" in life a neeeded
to all that sees this, use you skill you have to overcome the small
challenges we do have, we be so much better persons when we can feel like we can be a "part of the world" and do someting great.
Hope this was some what readable since english is not my first language, I just want other INTP's to be as happy as I am tody :)

One strategy I use is to decide to do the best I can but within a certain time or with a certain deadline. That gives me space to aim for high quality work but also "permission" to not be perfect because I have a finite deadline. :-)

yeah it's literally me. i'm perceived as a lazy person especially by my relatives, parents and some of my professors. but once i'm interested in something, nobody can stop me from doing and learning it 24/7. the example is spanish. i just got obsessed with the spanish language and learned all the book in 2 months (the fact is that the book is supposed to go through in 3 years) and passed the exam at my univ not to attend spanish classes because i find the methods of our professor inefficient. and when they make me do english homework (the history of english language or analysis of the texts) i do literally nothing because i'm not interested in it and often just postpone the work

I'm a minute and 30 seconds into this and I already know where exactly this is going basically you need to grab the mind and the focus of the INTP same with the intj and it might be with the infj as well I'm not sure but basically you need to Captivate Us then send us down a rabbit hole once we reach the bottom and realize how it works then we are in the picture do school systems today suck but internet is help making everything better

Thanks a lot for your insight! I’m still learning the ropes right now, trying to provide as much info as I can, it’s hard being INTP and structuring your thoughts to explain to other people whilst also keeping them captivated... but that’s my main goal! I just want to provide value to people in some way whilst growing a little community. Will be taking your advice on board and always trying to get a little better every time.
      Thank you!

To keep a checklist of tasks, errands and appointments with dates or days-of-the-week, and time -of-day (when applicable), helps me remember and schedule my time as an INTP, (5w6, Virgo). When an item on said list is completed; I cross it off with a horizontal line or lines. If it is something I did not do and will not be doing; then, I put a wavy line through....
Some days, when I am going to be away from home, I make a copy of the list from my datebook onto a piece of paper, to carry along with me while I am out and about doing said thing(s). I try to keep it down to three or less line-items.
Just drawing a line through an item, usually soon after completing it, giving one a feeling of competence and completion!
For celebrations, such as someone's birthday or anniversary or public gathering event which I may or may not be attending: I put a question mark inside a set of parenthesis as a punctuation at the end of that line item. [For example, My nephew's birthday party(?)]. This indicates that is happening; but, I may not be attending it.

I think it's because of lack of motivation, repetition of events in schools, relationships etc. Like just imagine if teachers change everyday it would be more interesting to learn, and new friends every week but the concept of loyalty just makes things difficult or groupism makes exploring and experience limited, most of the people like to stay with their friends

AND IT IS KILLING ME, I would do them all on the night before the deadline or not pass them at all, my grades started to flunk and my asian parents aren't happy but they only ever care on the deadline day, but I only work when I feel threatened so like, HELP.

As INTP's we need to be more confident in our physical actions. This will help us have more positive thoughts. I know most of us think it might be cliche, but try to always look on the bright side. Try doing this in your owen creative way. I try to view all my mundane task of the day as a game. The following isn't meant to bash either INTPs or anyone else. We're all lacking in some way, and we're all lacking in different ways.
INTPs can overcome some of their disorganized nature by putting minimal effort into mundane tasks most of the time, that way preserving most of their energy for more interesting tasks. Basically INTPs should do mundane tasks "just good enough", also known as "half-a$$ing" :)
Often times it's better to do a poor job than no job at all. There's no need to worry, almost everyone is like that. It's usually acceptable, because the 80-20 rule applies a lot of the time, sort of.
It's basically the same thing that all people do (half-a$$ing a lot of the time), just the interests are different. INTPs consider much of the real world mundane and much of the imagined world interesting, while for many other people it's the opposite. Many other people half-a$$ the imagined world, which causes different kinds of problems for them.
Both approaches cause problems, so it's not like INTPs are the only ones struggling. The key difference is that, while INTPs struggle to get things done in time, other people struggle to get things right. INTPs perform at higher levels, other people perform more regularly.
The good thing for INTPs is that they're really good at figuring out ways to make mundane (or any) tasks easier for themselves (just like I did with the advice to half-a$$ things). So they should put that ability to use.

Tip #2: Don't catastrophize. I have to repeatedly remind myself that a task, such doing the dishes, won't actually be painful. It helps, but I'm still terrible with procrastinating. Still, I've made it to 70, through school and career, so there is that. I'm surprised how much procrastination can still be a problem when I literally have all day to to do pretty much whatever I want to do.

I was gonna type up a long rebuttal, but what's the point? 😂
I'm kidding. Laziness is default mode. INTPs are likely going to have to show INTPs a system to get ourselves going. Right now gratitude is helping me greatly, but I'm not ready to explain this yet to someone who isn't in my field so we wait. (Edit: The first tip is a bit along these lines. Being grateful as if I already did it. Thinking about how good it will feel having done it. Being grateful I can do it, that I'm capable of figuring it out, or that I'm able to get help. Thankful that I'm being helpful and not a burden. Thankful I'm helping to strengthen myself.)
Some people find pomodoro to be helpful. It's fine when you actually have the motivation, but it doesn't motivate me.
As an INTP if you don't have a system for organization you're not organized. By that I mean you are going to go on one of your side quests. There's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. You can avoid it for years, but it's going to happen. If you have a system you can immediately put everything back the way it was effortlessly, and pick back up exactly where you left off.
