I think the lack of motivation really takes a hit on intp's. If we don't win something its because we didn't work hard enough and procrastinated, exploring other ideas that don't align with what needs to get done. When we do win, it doesn't feel earnt, like it was a stroke of luck. Anybody else feel that way?

I had always been told I was of “ below average” academic ability through high school. Right after I started college an older neighbor (who happened to be a Systems Analyst & I believe a fellow INTP) befriended me and became a mentor. He helped me realize I had been a victim of labeling and I achieved a 3.8 and 3.9 gpa my first 2 semesters. I think you’re right when you stated something to the effect that “stupid” INTP’s just haven’t learned how smart they are yet.

High school really isn't made for INTPs whatsoever. Being told exactly what to do at all times during the day. College is better because we can have much more freedom, doing things at our own pace. "stupid" INTPs I know exist because I know a few. As a female INTP, I really struggle with the whole feeling part that is expected from stereotypical women. INTPs (judging from myself) are way more sensitive, reliable, and giving and can be fun and outgoing but we still don’t fit what a woman should be. People find me fascinating but do they want me in their inner circle, I doubt that.

I get that feeling too but tbh I'm very happy I'm a woman I feel like my weirdness would make dating even harder if I was a man. I'm probably not most people's type, but the good thing is that the men that do like women like us are usually men with more progressive mindsets which makes it way easier to lead a relationship on an eye to eye level. And same goes for friendships. I naturally gravitate towards people who are supportive and don't feel threatened by my achievements. It's very rewarding to have people like that in your life, you just need to find them.

I've been looking into MBTI and INTP for years now and I would have to say the main problem with the INTP, which is related to Fe inferior, is the lack of confidence and/or motivation. When we do come to experience them it's usually short bursts and fitfully. I'm not sure if this is part of having high-level intelligence mixed with a lot openness but it's very difficult to deal with. Being a sage like person is indeed the true INTP purpose(good job at explaining that), but we must come up with solutions to embrace it and not get carried away.
I know one solution which is financial independence. Once we can become a person of independent means, pursing the sage life can be less stressful and I think INTPs will become more confident as they don't have to worry about making ends meet, being unethical, or just sucking up to some boss. Now, and this is important, FI doesn't mean you have to super rich just that you are like Thoreau(possible INTP) and understand that "man is rich in proportion to things he can do without."

    • @intpsurvivalguide2473
      @intpsurvivalguide2473  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

Great comment. Yes becoming a sage requires total self mastery. This would include financial security. I don't know that a INTP would have to be financially independent. As long as they work in an environment that they can enjoy and not have to be a social butterfly. INTPs should also do well in the stock market if they take an interest. I have been adding dividend stocks just to get paid (hopefully enough to live on someday. Thank you!

dumb in what way? Logical, critical, systematic thinking? Maybe you're not an INTP then, your strengths lie somwhere else.
Or maybe dumb at handling people? or practical skills? or expressing yourself? or being in your head in social events? Those are common intp issues.
I am personally awful at handling directions and pop culture trivia knowledge, sometimes even expressing my thoughts coherently. Putting too much value on those things would make me appear "dumber" than I actually am

Being on this earth, residing in the flesh 73 years, I have realized that it is not for me to try to "help" people on a physical or emotional level, as my first mode of operandi, however, I have realized that, for me, it is not a lack of compassion or caring or motivation,... It is that my passion is for knowledge and understanding on a more expansive level encompassing the all of this experience as it is, (possibly an earthly evolutionary experience), and realizing the life-force intelligence, that is experiencing the physical along with the mental and emotional aspects of this experience. Personally, in the recognition of this essence of life engaged in the earth experience, I have, through this expanded perception, seen the perfection of life. My seeing and being in this alignment with universal harmony surrenders to this flow of peace, joy, enlightenment that can be shared through just being in this state of beingness. This is the sage. These, are all just concepts, words that we use to try to explain that which can only be experienced and integrated. INTPs are not lazy or unmotivated. They have a different calling that is more about understanding and integrating the life force with the earthly experience through intake of information here in the physical, and expanding to include all of it as is, without judgement, in a state of being....just being. Then the enlightment organically happens....what we might perceive and experience as humans, to be a sage, which is what we all can be when we are ready and willing. Then our joy is to inspire. We inspire at our highest level of realization of our earthly experience as INTPs. Be patient with your unfolding, all you evolving sages. Observe and learn and integrate....be willing to unfold. You are not normal, nor were you meant to be. Your calling is to be in the beingness of oneness...., which is inspiration. No need to try to DO anything, like share your wisdom....what you are speaks to the world, like the sun shines on this earth. You shine.

During career testing in my early 40's I discovered I was an INTP. I had never heard about this before. And then I forgot about it. Didn't pay attention to it. And always felt out of place and undervalued. Now its almost 30 years later and I remembered I was an INTP. And lo and behold! INTP explained to me everything I had been feeling during my life. And now I understand how and why I am the way I am. And on the path to accepting myself at this late stage of life. My last 11 years in the work force before retiring, I had the "pleasure" of working at a company where I was totally out of place and felt like the outsider in the extreme. But I needed the job. But had I known about INTP traits I would have looked for a job more suited to my personality. Bottom line: I'm glad I am an INTP. I am now learning to utilize my totally unique INTP strengths.

Eventually, a principal called me in his office and asked why I was not making better grades in school since my IQ was higher than other classmates. I just thought it was another excuse to chew my ass so I let it go. Then another teacher taught us about IQ scores and what they meant. I was pretty intrigued and finally understood that I was being treated like a moron because I was living in a sea of morons that wouldn't listen to me. In my early 30's I was being tested for ADD and I took the Myers-Briggs test and she told me I was an INTP. She told me a little bit about what it was, but didn't get into much detail. I really wish I had discovered all of this back then. I've been so frustrated at times and there was a logical explanation to why I struggled in certain areas.

Feminine confidence and headstrong af, and that’s the way I wanted to be and didn’t really see anywhere in my peers. At one point I made a character in my head that had all my best qualities at that time and added all the best qualities of the tv characters, and decided that she was my future self and to have her as a role model. Like an invisible friend kind of. I would ask her advice and wisdom, and comfort. I have noticed that the older I get the more like her I am and the more true to myself I feel. I don’t usually advice people to do what I’ve done (cus people find it a bit strange/difficult) but to you INTPs I would highly recommend it! INTP here, this video was very helpful. I especially enjoyed how you broke down how society is structured and the difficulties of bringing our logic to the table. I love the idea of just accepting the idea that we may not be able to help with feelings so much rather than deny that. Sage gives us permission to step into our wisdom and yes I relate to "caregiver" for my small inner circle too. Trusting my logic and valuing it will be key to getting out of the apathy/frustration I face in society. It's hard to see solutions and then not feel valued in an efficient way to share them. This video proves that community insights can be niche but helpful.

I don't want to give closed finished statements as advice to people. Not only they won't listen to it, it might be wrong or it might be imposing. What I want to do is inspire people, with my way of thinking. They might or might not think what I did is good. But that's not the point. As long as I see my thought process in solving the problem presented to me, I feel like that is enough work. Then they can build their own solutions to better their lives. Thank you so much for the encouragement! I needed to hear this because I have been holding back and thought... why bug people with what I have to say. There were times when I did speak up or reveal myself and I sensed that some people found it intimidating. I feel I have reached the Sage level, I had no choice because ignorance as a young INTP is just depressing, my life was very hard and I had to go through many things including joining a CULT that took advantage of my need for TRUTH, but now it is just this amazing feeling of clarity and ability to solve problems. I think we have this need to understand things very deeply which makes things hard initially but......but...in the end we triumph because its the depth of understanding that enables us to quickly see the solutions! It is sooo beautiful to see things with such clarity and to be able to create and imagine (imagination is through the roof)... and designing wow...the ideas just come...and it doesn't even feel like its coming from me. But I am almost 40 so it has been a long road to get here. Life is just so much easier when you figure out the shortest, quickest way to do things. You arrived at these quick methods of doing things because you continuously question, refine and re-evaluate your actions whereas others seem to do the same things over and over without questioning. I believe that initially in our twenties we seem to be making less progress but I feel as I see with myself that in the end, we can make the most. With regard to exercise, people have this idea that cardio is the best and that you have to push yourself, I used to do this and it is not a good long term solution to true health as running can harm and strain your kidneys and joints. Sometimes pushing too hard can make your body hold onto fat. Just take a brisk 30 minute walk in the morning between 7 to 10 as this is the best time to avoid pollution or heat exhaustion. Replace your coffee with fortified milk powder (has higher levels of protein then meat) + cocoa powder (a superfood) its delicious and because it has very high levels of magnesium without the side effects of chocolate, then put a teaspoon of coconut oil (its keto) into it every time. It will give you the same energy as coffee, reduce your sugar cravings and by 7-8 at night you may experience a libido spike (just warning you). Then up your vitamin C intake by buying Ascorbic acid powder or even better by buying Amla powder from an indian shop, its cheaper and more effective. The vit C will reduce appetite, reduce inflammation, make you feel lighter, and improve your mood. Avoid meat if you can and get the protein instead using with a glass or two of butter milk every day which contains probiotics and protein that is more easily digestible and does not have the lactose which can cause breakouts (keto). If you start eating these, your sugar cravings will go down and you won't even have to force yourself or put willpower and effort into giving up sugar (your mood will improve together with your mental clarity). Walking and listening to music is easy, drinking hot chocolate is easy, Don't even bother to give up the sugar, just watch, it will come naturally. Effort is only required when there is a lack of technology. And don't worry about making progress, as long as you make a small bit of progress every day. You don't have to put effort into anything, just utilize the law of momentum as long as you do a minute of something every day, just focus on doing it for a minute... don't worry about it, even if for many days you only work on something for a minute, just do the one minute. The law of momentum will eventually take over and you wont have to put effort in. Effort is a lie, willpower does not last. If you put too much effort into lets say killing yourself at the gym, do you really think you will be able to maintain that? Put yourself on an intense calorie restricting diet, do you really think you will be able to maintain that? You are likely to fail, then get deflated, then start saying negative things to yourself and you will fall back into your old routine and may even gain some more weight. Small incremental changes using minimal effort is the way to lasting and steady progress. Willpower and pushing yourself to succeed is a Western concept, the East have thought this through, just as the INTP thinks things through to the final end result. Sorry for going on and on...just thought I would share some knowledge as you suggested.

@@greenlimabean Hey, my pleasure. Sorry, I see now it is a very long comment so thank you for reading. I agree with you on the ascorbic acid. Yes in my experience actual vit C from a natural source definitely has a better effect in the way I feel after taking it. Amla (indian gooseberry) has some of the highest levels of Vit C it is also very cheap in my country. I can get it in any Indian shop. So not only is it cheaper but it is better than ascorbic acid. I will have to look into camu camu as this is the first I have heard of it. I constantly think in terms of what is the least I can do to get the maximum return on investment. Vitamin Drips are a step up, I get them cheap here too. I was basically debilitated for 2 years, struggled to walk, breath, heart palpitations, emaciated, yellowish skin, everything was supper heavy and I fought every day for my life. When I finally had access to the Vitamin Drip (containing Mag, Vit C, all B vitamins, glutathione) that was when I finally started to see the changes. I would record, what I ate, the time I ate it and symptoms I experienced throughout the day. I would constantly research to try and heal myself. My symptoms most closely matched that of someone with Multiple Sclerosis and I healed. Yay!

I think a lot of underdeveloped INTP's rationalize their emotional estrangement and detachment from others by leaning into the archetype of the socially/emotionally removed thinker. But I think this is a mistake. A mature INTP will realize that emotional estrangement is not an immutable fact of their nature, but something that can be developed (and is very much worth doing so). I’m so glad I found your comment! The first part of this video really bothered me: no one can out-think you + u’re the smartes MBTI type. I disagree with this generalisation and this thinking that emotions and logic are separate things. Just because you understand the world more logically and make ur decision based on those thoughts doesn’t mean emotions aren’t important. I quickly learned as a child to read other’s emotions and how to deal with them (to get them out of my way), but always thought of them as a bothersome thing. So I never developed a good skill on how to deal with my own emotions. My “mistake” was that I put logic on something not quite logical. Emotions just are and they’re part of the human experience. I’m now 22 and I finally arrived at a better place. Personally it’s an accomplishment I’m really proud of, because I’m at a healthier place with myself and I can empathise with other people and understand them better. The MBTI is just another personality typology in which lays some truth, but it’s not the whole picture. And just because you’re one MBTI type doesn’t mean u’re the smartest in the room. A little bit less ego and a little bit more humility! I may be an INTP, but it doesn’t define my personality in it’s entirety :)

I have fallen for the most wonderful INTP, a retired software engineer with a masters degree he was very successful.and Worked for several of the best companies of the time...he is a multimillionaire but you would never know it. He dresses, eats and spends humbly. His clothing is ridiculously humble, but his wide ranging mind is simply amazing. I myself am three points below genius level but he outstrips me by far. And I dont meet many people who do...I am a retired university clinical psychology professor. He was attracted by my looks, very flattering for a 75 yo woman, but it was my mind he fell in love with and me with his. Then his heart and then the rest of him. Most women would look at him as two friends of mine did and say " no next." Well he is a treasure and I am so glad other women do not realize what a gem he is. And it is funny about ❤ it changes our perception about looks...every day he looks handsomser and handsomer to ME.

Thank you for pointing out the philosophical potential in the INTP! So tired of the programmer and scientist cliches. Personally, I prefer philosophy (figuring out the why) to science (identifying the what and how).
The sage is definitely an aspirational stage of maturity. It requires significant development of Si and Fe.

Doesn't science attempt to discover why something occurs along with the how and what? Actually, if you think about it, a lot of times, "why" questions will result in "how" answers.
      Why, answers with the reason.
How, answers with the method or process.
But, the method can easily be the reason why something occurs unless if it is social behavior. Besides, science and philosophy aren't opposites. There is even a philosophy branch for science... To be honest, since INTPs are said to be in constant thought anyway. Philosophical capacities should be assumed.

      Super emphasis on intention.
We bless or curse those around us with our intentions. Pay more attention and see for yourself. Those you love, life sparkles around them, even to them. When you leave, you take that with you, life can turn cold for them. Careful what you do with this, but don't underestimate it.

I am an INTP married to an ISTP. I like what you said about them, and yes, that sounds right.
I do feel like a sage, my nickname I acquired from my step-kids was Buddha. They thought it was funny because, yes, I'm on the hefty side. But they didn't realize that the word actually means teacher, I thought it was great, and yes, I think I helped them on their way to becoming successful adults. I'm older, so my Fe is much more developed, as is my wife's. We dated after we graduated high school, but didn't quite connect, and to be honest, we were both different people back then, but 25 years later, she was divorced, I came to visit for a vacation after a health scare, and we reconnected, and we've been married for 21 years now.
I got my first nickname, Bytehead, when I was working at a Training and Support Center for Radio Shack. Some people were amazed that my first week there, I was giving out answers to customers questions from the top of my head, no reading a manual, no questioning other people about what the answer might be. And yes, it did drive some people crazy that I was able to do that. So I guess I've been a sage for some time.
I have never aspired to be an ESFJ. Don't care to be extroverted, I sense enough, Lord knows I have feelings, my Fe expresses them even when I DON'T want to express them, and I have enough J to actually make decisions. More so than my wife, it seems... I'm a PINT subtype, which means I'm a whore. More like a chameleon, I have the uncanny ability to make people think that I'm just like them. All of my ENTJ best friends (and they have all been ENTJs...) have thought that I was an ENTJ as well. If you are looking for a good friend, an ENTJ can be a very good fit.

fellow INTP here. Trying to force the world to change, think differently, or have _your_ values can breed resentment. Think of how much you hate it when other personality types try to tell you to change for _them_ . It doesn't feel good and is a bit belittling, insulting.
Helping (minorities) people become their better selves is a better way than telling the other group that they are _wrong_ in some way. And, ask that group if they want your help. They might not and might think you are insinuating that they are too stupid to help themselves.

Most people use deductive reasoning. INTPs use inductive reasoning. We use data to build paradigms. Knowledge is a collection of experiences and data points. Wisdom is the ability to know which are important and know where they fit.
