Top four. I’ll give them the crown for most underrated band of all time. They were Nirvana before Kurt Cobain was in high school and they lasted thirty years. The entire with grunge is that it evolves around unhealthy emotional places in people. It makes for some beautiful music, but trying to live it is apparently a very difficult life if you look at the amount of deaths among its players. The highs and lows are so far apart with not enough just being content. Getting to wrapped up in your own feelings isn't the place we need to live.

megatron210777 I'm curious, what makes you like Cannibal corpse?
Of course I also like CC but sometimes It gives me headaches and the lyrics are very childish...how old are you? If you don't mind me asking.
I was totally into extreme metal till the late 20s then with age, we started moving backwards to classic rock ( I play bass for couple of bands...nothing big...just few middle aged long haired guys having a good time)
For Nirvana, I guess you need to be in that scene to appreciate their music, glam metal was possibly the worst genre of music, which they wiped out...if you listen closely... without any prejudice, you may appreciate the brutal honesty about their songs...yes, they took punk style of approach in many of their songs...which may not sound very musical but they were very very honest about the music. Some of my musician buddies hate Nirvana, but honestly as a former junkie who almost lost everything... I do appreciate Kurt a lot..if your life is always been perfect, you may not feel it at all, but some of us were not so lucky...

Biswarup Banerjee I started listening to extreme metal back in my teenage years. I was trying to be "be rebellious" and grunge wasn't doing anything for me. I'm not saying grunge or nirvana wasn't good music, it just wasn't my taste. I guess death metal was a way to make me feel like I was a tough guy because it helped me escape the troubles of my adolescence years. Now I'm older and I listen to everything different, including Pearl Jam which I didn't pay attention to in the past. Reason why I overlooked his lyrics. I just didn't pay attention til now.

When I was in my twenties living in Seattle in the 1990's I saw a lot of these bands coming up and Pearl Jam was always my favorite. I worried constantly that Eddie wouldn't survive. He seemed so tortured and when performing live he took crazy chances climbing all over the stage. And heroin was a real issue everywhere at that time. Yet here we are 30 years later and the band is still intact and strong, but pretty much all of the other groups have suffered horrible losses. To this day, Ten is still my favorite album. It is brilliant work from start to finish.

Dude, Vin’s mind got blown so hard he broke and became speechless. Had to cut to let him recover. 😂 That’s fucking awesome. I seriously believe Vin hit the nail on the head with his interpretation of this song. I had never thought of the song that way before. Damn man. Vin you just singlehandedly put this song on a whole other level.
I’m fucking addicted to these kinds of videos now. For me, I’ve been listening to a lot of these songs since I think my freshman year of high school. Always knowing these bands where on another level compared to a lot of other music whether it be from the time period in which the bands formed and became big, or music today.
So when I see people hearing it for the first time ever in most cases it makes me happy ‘cause I was them at one point. Never having heard it before, but once I did I never wanted to UNhear it. Just being blown away as a teenager not fully grasping all the ideas within. Not just the lyrics but the musical arrangement as well. However, now I can full grasp those ideas being an adult and it makes the songs just that much better.
Again, these videos make me really happy.

Thank you so much for reviewing this version of 'Black'. This song stuck with me for the last 26 years. And even as a little German teen back then with little knowledge of the English language I could feel the pain and relate to that song. It's the song I always come back to when life is giving me rough times and I guess that's the way it's always going to be. Inmho Pearl Jam is and always was an unpretentious down to earth band. You could fill books with the amazing things they did over the last decades. I'm never up for idolizing people, but Eddie and PJ might be the only exception I'd ever make. Just love these guys. If you want to do another PJ live performance I'd recommend 'Porch' of the Pinkpop festival back in 1992. It's just epic. Of course they grew up and calmed down over the years (they're all in their mid 50ies now), but they're still one of the greatest live rock bands existing out there. Other songs I'd recommend are 'Sirens', 'Sad' and 'Come back'. Only to name a few. Just explore their catalouge, you won't be disappointed. Greetings from Germany! :)

For anyone who has made someone their entire universe and then that person leaves, this song hits very hard. I've been there and this song expresses what it's like. My advice to people is to not put someone so far up on a pedestal that you cannot reach them, don't completely open that vulnerable side of yourself to a person unless you know for sure they feel the same way about you. Once they ascend beyond you, you are left in the cold and dark. It's pure hell and some people never make it out.

Also, the five horizons could be interpreted as the five senses again saying how his entire life, revolved around her and what she did.

Their best song. So good. So soulful. So emotional. This is what grunge was all about. Exposing pain and depression. Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder, Layne Staley... putting their emotions on the table for all to see. Tapping into frustrations that resonated. They were raw. And when you feel emotion that deeply it's no surprise that Eddie is the last man standing. It's sad. But by far my favorite time in music. Wish there was more of it.
I agree with everyone suggesting Alice in Chains - Nutshell Unplugged. Very chilling performance considering the state Layne was in when it was recorded. Like we were watching him die on stage really, and his voice still pierced through.

The line "all I taught her was everything...I know she gave me all that she wore" was always to me a line about relationship dynamics. Men generally have a hard time opening up emotionally and sharing thoughts and feelings. Women generally are slower to connect physically. That he had "taught her everything" (talked and shared everything) and she had "given all she wore" (been naked with him) says to me they were both commited at a deep level. Fantastic song. Eddie Vedder is a special talent. He is alive and well, married in 2010, has two daughters, and he is as passionate as ever. Pearl Jam still tours every summer - they generally only do 6-10 shows a year in select markets - usually Chicago, Boston, Seattle. Their concerts are some of the best in the industry (imo) - they always change up their setlists, do a lot of one-off covers, have multiple unique art/prints/shirts for each show, play 3 hour+ shows.
Pearl Jam band name. Eddie's "cool" great-grandmother (also my great-grandmother :-p) first name was Pearl and the band was named after her. The "story" is she married a Native American and made peyote jam and that is where the second part of the name comes from

Thank you..I love how the two of you really listen to the song (all the songs you do). So again thank you. Maybe some more Pearl Jam Unplugged or Alice in Chains - Nutshell (unplugged) and maybe Chris Cornell cover of 'Nothing Compares To You" .

React to their song Release about Vedder finding out as a teen that his stepdad wasn't his real dad.

All I know is I'm glad Eddie fell in love again and moved past the woman who tore his heart apart in his 20's. He's been married since 2010 and they appear very happy. This performance is absolutely gut wrenching because you can literally feel his pain. I just watched him sing this song from a Summer 2022 concert and his voice is still amazing!

One of the BEST WRITTEN AND PREFORMED songs ever. The best touring band that's STILL TOURING, RECORDING AND GIVING THEIR ALL TO THEIR FANS.

I JUST BECAME A FAN OF PEARL JAM AFTER THIS REVIEW. I WAS IN 1ST GRADE WHEN THIS SONG CAME OUT. I DIDNT LIKE PEARL JAM GROWING UP. I'M ASHAMED TO SAY IT NOW. I'M MARRIED NOW TO A WOMAN WHO LOST HER DAUGHTER AT AGE 7. ABOUT 10 YEARS BEFORE I MEET HER. I CAN'T FULLY COMPREHEND HER PAIN. BECAUSE I'VE NEVER LOST A CHILD. I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT IT IS ONE OF THE MOST PAINFUL AND DIFFICULT THINGS TO DEAL WITH. "ALL I TAUGHT HER WAS EVERYTHING". MADE ME THINK OF HOW YOUR CHILD IS TAUGHT EVERTHING BY THEIR PARENTS. "ALL I'LL BE" BRINGS ME TO HOW YOUR LEGACY LIVES ON THROUGH YOUR OFFSPRING. SEEING CHILDREN PLAYING AND FEELING THEIR LAUGHTER. BUT FEELING SEARED. TODAY WAS THE FIRST TIME I ACTUALLY LISTENED TO THE WORDS AND MEANING OF THE SONG. I CRIED TO THINK OF HOW MUCH PAIN SHE FELT THEN AND STILL ON GOING TODAY. I WISH I COULD TAKE THAT PAIN FROM HER AND MAKE IT DISAPPEAR. THANK YOU VIN AND SORI FOR REVIEWING THIS SONG. THANKYOU PEARL JAM FOR THIS PERFORMANCE. THANKYOU EDDIE VEDDER FOR THE LYRICS, AND EMOTIONAL PERFORMANCE. YOU HAVE BROUGHT ME A LITTLE CLOSER TO MY WIFE. IN A WAY I'M GLAD THAT I JUST NOW UNDERSTOOD THIS SONG LATER IN MY LIFE. BECAUSE I THINK IT HAS A DEEPER MEANING TO ME NOW.

Yes It's Me Again!! You just getting started. Again I'm 57 years old and started to feel like my Father during the 80s(as far as the Rock genre goes) Then I Heard Nirvana, my ear perked up but wasn't Totally convinced. Then I heard Alice in Chains WOW! DESPITE the fact that these bands were packaged by Corporate America. They were So different in many ways But they All didn't have to hide behind a show and makeup!! They sang and played with feeling and emotion and didn't hide behind superficial bullshit because they were for Real!! Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, and Eddie Vedder stripped me from my wall. Along with their voices, the musicianship was impeccable!! But as long as you're talking about Pearl Jam and Live Performances! PLEASE CHECK OUT Pearl Jams tribute to Bob Dylan Live doing "MASTERS OF WAR "!! WATCH THAT!!

Been listing to this song for about 15 years now, almost every week- you guys did an amazing job reacting this this song- not right or wrong - it’s just poetry and everyone will interpret it how they feel it- it’s funny that this guy is more of a soul/spiritual one and the girl is the literal one
