    I had the pleasure of being stationed in Seattle from 1989-1992. I was fortunate enough to see a concert with Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots. At the end of the concert Eddie and Chris came out and did this song. The biggest chill I have ever felt.

  • @miguelborges3125

    Temple of the dog was a side project started by Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell as a tribute to his former roommate Andrew wood, the vocalist of Mother Love Bone, who died of a heroin overdose in 1990 just before the release of their first album. Mother Love Bone featured two future Pearl Jam members, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. Chris approached them with the intention of releasing a couple of songs he wrote as they were figuring out how to continue without Andrew. Jeff and Stone were trying to recruit members to form a new band and eventually found two of them, one being Eddie Vedder. Chris insisted on making them part of the project. So this was a supergroup before any of these bands achieved any substantial mainstream sucess. Pearl Jam would release their first album one year later and Soundgarden was just starting to get some attention.

      I think it's because Eddie and Pearl Jam have way more hit songs. Not bashing Cornell at all, but I think these reaction vids are made off of popularity, which Pearl Jam was much more popular and still is, than Soundgarden/Audioslave. No disrespect meant at all. Cornell's voice is GODLY. I'm sure they'll have more on here.

  • @GoldTop57
    @GoldTop57 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Yep they all started in Seattle playing clubs together and playing in each others bands, writing, etc. Cornell was pretty much the big brother and mentor of the scene, especially once Andy Wood died. Cornell was also the main person to make sure Eddie Vedder was excepted into the scene as he arrived late when all those guys already knew each other, and many of them were not very accepting of Eddie when he first came to Seattle. Cornell was also the principal songwriter of these songs with Temple OTD.

    Before Pearl Jam there was Mother Love Bone. Same members; their singer Andrew Wood died of a drug overdose before their record came out. Andrew & Chris Cornell of Soundgarden were roommates & Chris with Matt Cameron (Soundgarden drummer) & the remaining members of Mother Love Bone did this one-off record as a tribute to Andrew. Eddie was recruited & then became Pearl Jam.
    From the same record you should check out "Wooden Jesus", & "Reach Down".

The other guitarist in Pearl Jam (Mike McCready) was a friend of Stone's brought in after Mother Love Bone broke up. Bruce Fairweather was the other guitarist in MLB, and Greg Gilmore was the drummer at the time of Andy's death. Just stop for gods sakes! It's not about records deals. This is what Chris Cornell said about this song: "I was wanting to express the gratitude for my life but also disdain for people where that's not enough, where they want more. There's no way to really have a whole lot more than you need usually without taking from somebody else that can't really afford to give it to you. It's sort of about taking advantage of a person or people who really don't have anything."

      Yvette you are wasting your fingers typing. These two arrogant aholes don't give a crap about facts. In most professionally done reaction videos you have one person who has the backstory of song and the artist. After the virgin listener(s) react then the knowledgeable person fills them in. But not fat Jim and Tammy, oh hell no! What's infuriating and why I rarely watch their videos anymore is they don't just say, "Well this song makes ME think of capitalism" or whatever. HELL FUCKEN NO! Fat Jim and Tammy say, "What the artist whom I know nothing about meant this and this is what he meant. Because I'm big fat Vin and I know everything! Ever see these arrogant TV evangelists edit on a retraction once they read in the comments how off the mark they were? HELL NO. Fuck these two fat asses. Hey big fat Vin! Lying and false witness is a sin, colostomy bag!

      “Hunger Strike” and “Wooden Jesus” were ideas that might have been a few months old, but I had never really finished writing or fully realized them. They didn’t feel like Soundgarden, so I didn’t really pursue them. But “Hunger Strike” came about because of an existential crisis that Soundgarden faced at that moment. We were sort of the first band [from Seattle] that had attention from labels in a meaningful way. There was a bidding war, which was unusual for any band from Seattle. We were living our dream, but there was also this mistrust over what that meant. Does this make us a commercial rock band? Does it change our motivation when we’re writing a song and making a record? “Hunger Strike” is a statement that I’m staying true to what I’m doing regardless of what comes of it, but I will never change what I’m doing for the purposes of success or money" - Chris Cornell, 2016

    It’s hard to believe that almost all my heroes from the Seattle grunge scene are gone. I thank god that Eddie Vedder is still here and I had the opportunity to have the fallen grunge legends in my life ( shout out to Chris Cornell (soundgarden, audioslave), Layne Staley (Alice and Chains), Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), and Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) thank you.) Also Siri I know what you mean by that the vocals sounded a bit like country. I always felt, Chris Cornell especially, had a voice that ancient humans used. I think about Native Americans, Africans, ancient Chinese, Muslims reciting Quran (tajweed), all crying from mountain tops. I love it a lot.

It wasn't about complaining just to complain, it was expressing the frustrations of things being treated so flippantly. Everything from politics to consumerism to family to foreign policy to classwar to corruption to mental health, just so many things that had been glossed over in the 80s and prior. I'm glad you're finally listening to what was being said.

    Temple of the Dog is a tribute to Andy Wood, he was the singer of Mother Love Bone. Andy Wood and Chris Cornell were roommates at one point, so Chris wrote a couple of songs about him after he died. He invited Jeff Ament & Stone Gossard to record these songs with him, they were both in Mother Love Bone. Mike McCready, a friend of Stone was also invited. Jeff, Stone and Mike were testing out new singers for a new band, thats were Eddie Vedder comes in the picture(this became Pearl Jam) . At rehearsal Chris was having trouble singing the lower parts of Hunger Strike, and Eddie steped in and sang them, Chris then invited Eddie back to sing them on record, the first time Eddie ever sang on a record. When both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam became huge, the Temple of the Dog album was re-released and became a hit.
