DIY Cable Management for Standing Desk

- Have you always wanted neatly organized, hidden cables that work with your standing desk? Tired of cheap plastic channels that don't hold as much as they should and fall apart quickly? Well we have a deal for you!
Seriously, though, I put together a couple 'bags' that hang from my standing desk that hold all of my cable mess. The parts are cheap and simple:
5/8" Wood Dowel Rod (4x 19" in my case but customize to fit)
Fabric Squares (2x 18"x20" in my case but customize to fit)
3D Printed Under-desk Rod Holders: www.thingivers...
Wood Screws
I have a lot on my desk. I managed to shove:
8 slot power strip
LG Ultrawide monitor power brick
Dell monitor HDMI and power cable
HP monitor HDMI and power cable
Unpowered USB hub cable
Powered USB hub power brick and cable
Keyboard/Mouse USB cables
Audio interface USB cable
Great idea man! Impossible to find exactly this on TH-cam. Everyone wants to show you what to buy.
Grogu in the back!!! Nice video!
Thanks! He tends to linger in the background quite a bit.
Have you thought about hanging the PC from the underside of table? That way you wouldn't have to move the PC, when you move the table and you would also only have one cable going to the table. I think, that would make the setup even more cleanly.
Otherwise great video :-)
I had thought of it but wasn't sure how well a pressed-board table top would take the screws/weight of the computer. You're right, though, having the computer raise and lower with the table top would make many things a lot easier.
Could you run your cam audio through a low pass filter in edit? There's a very loud high pitch coming through the video that makes it tough to listen to
Otherwise great video :)
Noted! Future videos have better audio, filtered + lav mic.
Where do you get the desk? That was cool!
The legs are 'autonomous' kit legs: www.autonomous.ai/standing-desks/diy-smart-desk-kit. I believe I got them open box or something from Newegg. The desk top is from some generic OfficeDepot desk I've had for a LONG time. Just pulled the old legs off and and the new legs on. You can get something from ikea for pretty cheap.
I would keep in mind how much weight you're putting on the desk. A lot of cheaper desk tops are particle board or even hollow (like cardboard) and won't take the weight or the clamp-on monitor stands. Then, if you're looking at heavier desktops you'll want to make sure your legs can support the weight which probably means dual-motor legs. Just make sure to estimate and check the total weight when looking for legs.
Made me dizzy, otherwise very good.
Thanks Tracy, will try to minimize the cuts in the future :)
