The 2000s are back! Loud, messy, and pop culture at its height might be among the things that you associate with this important era in history. Pixar’s latest feature Turning Red takes its own spin on the idea of what it was like to navigate the early 2000s as a teenager, showing that things have not changed so much after all in the last two decades. For Fact 52, Mei takes French class mostly because public schools in Canada teach French as a mandatory course from late elementary school to early high school. But she may enjoy French class as it makes her connection to Robaire stronger
I live in Canada (Québec) and French is my mains language and I learn English as a second language
My sisters were exempt from French but I wasn't. I barely passed anyways lol
I go to a Ontario school, and French is definitely required, even kindergarteners get French class!
As someone who goes to school in Ontario I hate this law.
There are french classes in the U.S. aswell i wish i couldv took a french class but i only did spanish
Lester B. Pearson was also the reason why both the Suez Crisis was resolved and why the Canadian flag is the iconic maple leaf flag that it is today. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for his Suez Crisis actions and is considered one of the fathers of modern peacekeeping. And it wasn't a "multicultural society" but rather, he promoted biculturalism, he wanted French and English to have the same status. Pierre Trudeau's government is what made Canada a multicultural one, but Lester took the first step
You forgot that at the start of the movie Mei's hair is black. When she gains her red panda her hair turns red. Then during the ceremony when she is trying to go through the portal he hair turns black again. Also her mom gains red hair(and her other ancestors) when they reconnect with their red panda.
Kinda doesn't count as a "fact you should know" though, since it's already very clearly and obviously shown in the movie

@@matthewweatherford6566 How? When Mei's hair changes color, she tries to hide it. When her friends see it, they make a fuss. When Mei sees her mom in the spiritual panda world, she looks completely different.
They also forgot that "panda" means "demon".
Another thing: During the big battle, one of the Aunties is seen Naruto running, this whole battle has a very Attack on Titan feel to it. Another thing: Mei passes a classroom with a bird skeleton that resembles Kevin from "Up".
I would have loved to have seen the 4*Town presentation that Mei gives to her mom.
I also would have liked to see that.
Maybe we will get some extra content someday :)

Wait... Blasian background...? As in Black and Asian...? Dude. I've been using that word for myself since I was a kid and never heard anyone else us it or really met anyone personally who was also Black and Asian. Hearing it in this video gave me goosebumps and made me like Tyler even more

I'd only heard it once or twice before Turning Red and didn't know what black-Asian people thought of it, so I never dared use it to describe them. But if they're cool with it, I guess I can use it.

While it does reference Twilight, the first Twilight book was published in 2005, yet the movie takes place in 2002. So it'd be a bit too early for those books to be a thing. Then again this is a Pixar movie so reality can be whatever they want

There is another lgbt fact, and you hinted at it when you mentioned Tyler liking Aaron Z. In the movie, Tyler can be seen making fun of Mei + her friends' love of 4☆Town then in the end of the movie Mei + her friends are shocked that Tyler is at the 4☆town concert, then he gets nervous when he is found out, after that gets embraced by mei + her friends thus being friends with them too because can be seen as a metaphor for coming out in the LGBT community.

The fact about Makoto from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was in this as a special nod to that movie made me so happy.
Mamoru Hosoda also had a interview with Domee Shi to praise the animation in the film he would later wrote a comic where Mei meets Belle which is confusing because Belle is a avatar so why not Suzu

Number 61 is NOT a thumper reference... It is a reference to the male wolf characters that would do the same when seeing a sexy female character in the old warner brother cartoons. It is also referenced in the movie "The Mask".

Nope! The decision not to have a theatrical release was before the Russian/Ukrainian war. The Disney studio claims it was Omicron but some TH-camrs believe they're just making up excuses, especially since they felt sure Omicron cases would calm by March. Some people on Facebook mentioned that Disney is constantly wanting Pixar to make content for Disney+ and when Luca was moved exclusively to Disney+, one said they thinks it's simply because Disney wants to build up their streaming service. One came up with the idea that Disney might wanna destroy Netflix. I've come to the assumption that pulling Turning Red from theaters has something to do with Encanto being a box office flop but a phenomenon on Disney+. Also, Disney CEO Bob Chapeck has decided to make streaming Disney's main priority (even before the pandemic happened). They talked about continuing to let the adult movies like the Marvel movies go exclusively to theaters while the kids and family movies go straight to Disney+. However that doesn't mean they're ruling out bringing kids and family movies (other than sequels, remakes, and spinoffs) back to theaters because the TH-camr mentioned that CEOs can make mistakes. If enough people don't agree with something, they'll change.

@@matthewweatherford6566 this is why Disney is gonna lose money this way but still make up for it. They will make less money for theatrical releases and dvds but Disney+ balances it out seeing there is no point in buying the dvd when you have the streaming service

You know I wonder if Mei and her friends would be interested in Japanese Idols. Speaking of Idols has anyone by any chance heard of 2 upcoming Idol Animes called "Shine Post" and "THE iDOLM@STER Million Live!" (Air date: 2023)? I'm just being curious.
Fun fact: though they're not exactly idols, the Japanese group Da-iCE voiced 4*TOWN in the Japanese dub of Turning Red.

This is my favorite Pixar movie because it takes place in my hometown and I love red pandas!
I figured that scene meant that the father was a new 4town fan.

Tyler wears a band-aid on his face, which is another early 2000s trend that many rappers did - particularly Nelly.
Why is the audio so quiet? Even wearing headphones I still had to double my normal volume to hear what was being said.

I thought I saw that blonde girl in the bathroom scene wearing a CGM!! It was so fast and it looked sort of flat so I wasn't sure if it was just a quirky girl with. Sticker on her arm but it's so validating to find out that I was right and that there was some T1D representation in there!

Thank you, I was going to post this comment. The Calgary Tower does lighting for events as well, especially the Stampede, but they never say it's a different tower. Must be confusing, because that needle is a lot shorter, so people might start thinking the CN Tower can just adjust its top at will lol

I know it’s obvious that 4 town is inspired by n’sync, but when mei does her presentation, if you look to the left her 4 town album covers and cds are identical to n’syncs first album and their no strings attached cd.

I mean this is fair from the only time a Disney film had modern elements in films that are set in a time before, typically this is with hairstyles, songs, clothing, pop culture references/jokes and story themes so I wasn't supirsed at all that turning red had elements that are for present day watchers.
