    A little backstory - on Friday I was speaking with Brennan from Mosaic, talking about the Palette 2 and how I would love to talk about it on my show. THAT turned into, "Mitch, our CEO, can fly to you tonight and be to your house at 1am. He has to leave for the airport by 8am, but he will have Palette 2, Palette 2 Pro, all of our new products with him, will that work?"
    YES IT WILL.
    Mitch flew out, and we filmed this overnight. If it seems we are slightly loopy, well, now you know why. Once we were done filming, we went for breakfast at McDonalds. Once he left for the airport, I closed my eyes for a few hours :)

      Another upgrade could be a mixer, to make many colors from three colors.

      While CANVAS will provide the best experience, we have a desktop (offline) app named Chroma that handles post-processing of GCode files from other slicers. Support for Palette 2 in Chroma will be added shortly!

    • @RogerGarner
      @RogerGarner 5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Yup, I'd like to be sure I can use my printer if the internet is down for whatever reason. Whilst the internet around me is pretty stable (ironically had a lie down for an hour just earlier today...) there are many places (rural especially) or just some entire countries with flakey connections. The power of the cloud isn't really needed for slicing... We've all been doing it for years on our home computers afterall and it only takes a few seconds...

    • @tad2021

      Plus when cloud stuff adds bugs or is down (which with some services is a regular occurrence) you're screwed till it gets fixed.

      Some customer feedback we heard often with Palette & Palette+ was that users wanted to be able to remove the top cover during operation. On Palette & Palette+, the SD card got in the way of removing the cover. On Palette 2, we went all-out with magnets. 'cause who doesn't love magnets?

      Does anyone make a clear bowden tube? I think it be cool to watch the filament on its way to the hotend as well.

    • @MosaicManufacturing
      @MosaicManufacturing 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      We did use clear bowden tubes in Palette+, but because they were a slightly different material than PTFE, they introduced a little bit more friction. The friction wasn't the end of the world (I opt to use the clear tubes instead of the PTFE tubes with my Palette+), but with Palette 2, we decided to opt for PTFE for the minor performance bonuses (i.e. keeping the filament path as low-friction as possible). Do note, however, that when you take the top cover off, you can see practically everything! The cover plates (visible at 18:37) are entirely clear so you can see the filament travel all throughout the unit. It's mesmerizing to watch. - Brennan

      in a perfect world any data it would need from the cloud would be saved in memory of the machine like it would just need the cloud to setup the job then the device should be self sustaining till the end of the job. Dunno if thats how they designed it though but they do seem to be putting a lot of thought and work into this based off the improvements made between the original and this one so heres hoping

    My issue is I own the Palette Plus as it has been a nightmare. I have only gotten a few prints out of it and spent more time clearing jams and replacing stepper motor drivers. My current unit is so badly jammed at the moment that I have set it aside and resumed normal printing. It seems like this version fixes many of the issues of the first generation (including the bulk). After spending $700 on the first gen one a few months ago and have a expensive paperweight, I am not sure if I will buy into the new one.
    I will say that the support from the Palette team is amazing.

    • @duanehouck2919
      @duanehouck2919 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My experience is exactly the same. Support is great, but the Palette+ is worse than useless. In a year, I have so few successful prints, it's laughable. Not to mention the number of wasted hours.
      The question I have is does the Palette 2 address the weak splicing issues. I really don't need another paperweight time waster.

      One improvement would be to add a tiny bit of color. The gray theme seems to merge into blank areas and makes it a little hard for my eyes to jump to areas of interest throughout the ui. Also I setup an account without a Palette (ordered the palette 2 pro) and I hit "Im not using a palette" when creating my profile, but I dont see of an easy way to add the palette profile back once I receive the palette 2 pro. This brings me to my last observation so far which is, the only way i see to edit my slicer settings is to start a new project. There should be a way to edit your profiles without having to make a project. Just my 2c. I am excited to receive the palette 2 pro.

    "The hundreds of thousands of single colour models out there on the internet won't need to be re-designed in CAD..."
    Ok, NOW you've got my attention.
    The main reason I've never bothered with dual/multi extrusion printers or Pallette Pro or the like is that none of the stuff I'm printing has been created as a multi-colour model and I lack the skills, time or interest to re-create them as such. But if I can colourise an exisiting STL how I want... yep, definitely mind-blown!!

  • @shanebeasley8191

    something i would never be able to afford to do but ... could you buy 5 palette, have 4 inputting into one essentially making it able to print in 16 colours or materials... would be software reliant but would be pretty cool to just have 16 spools connected at once and only have to swap out spools when they are empty, not swapping between prints just because you want a different colour or material.

      I was thinking it'd be cool if it could do color blending, like feed in red,green,blue,yellow,black,and white. Then you'd only need two pallet 2's Daisy chained. One of the inputs from the first pallette would be taking output from the second. Maybe integrate an eye that can scan the filament colors so it knows what colors are what and where and can calculate what amounts of each color get the desired color.

    • @tibo786
      @tibo786 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The purpose of the "cloud solution" (software) is so that they can check that you are not creating forbidden items (gun parts, etc). If you do, they then inform the authorities and you are on your way to prison for life. This is the American way. This is why other software has gone cloud aswell. Use only opensource/free software. ____

    Oh God with 121 comments there i don't feel i may get an answer. But let's try. 1st do this system eliminates the waste Blockbuster used to change colors? Or just reduce it? (I belive it's explain but finally wasn't showed). 2nd for multimaterial, switching from one material to another with different printing requirements of nozzle temperature and extruding speeds..this system control that too? Or every material must use same conditions?. And last 3rd. Considering that some prototypes i print may require some high level of confidentiality, can canvas cloud system offer total privacy on designs?

    • @SamBluestein
      @SamBluestein 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can answer the first 2. It's usually called a purge block and no it doesn't eliminate it and palette likely never will. As far as the multi-material thing, they have to use the same temperature because if you're using a low temp. pla (190) and a petg (260) the printer would have to increase or decrease the temp by 70 degrees which would take at least a minute.

    • @3DPrintingNerd
      @3DPrintingNerd  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yo! 1 - the purge block is used with this. 2 - it's best to print with materials that are around 10c of each other. 3 - my guess is Mosaic will offer a privacy policy on CANVAS.

    • @MaximilianonMars
      @MaximilianonMars 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @MosaicManufacturing
      @MosaicManufacturing 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      tl;dr - You retain all rights over your IP (including copyrights, and any other rights you may have over your User Content).
      Hey * *, thanks for the great question, and apologies for the delay in responding (we did indeed miss your question). @3D Printing Nerd, thank you for bringing this to our attention!
      As I mentioned: You retain all rights to your IP (which, for legal purposes, we've called "User Content").
      From our ToS, User Content is: "...any Content that You send, submit, post, use or display in connection with the CANVAS Platform Services, for examples Content in the Customer's profile, design files, or videos."
      Note that we define CANVAS's Services as: "[providing] you with the ability to upload your favourite slicer profiles, 3D models, and a streamlined flow for multi-material 3D printing".
      Now that we have definitions for User Content (e.g. 3D model files) and Services (i.e. using CANVAS), here is the relevant part from CANVAS's terms of service in section 3.1 (User Content): canvas3d.io/terms-of-service
      "You will retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in User Content. By... submitting [files]... when using the Services, You hereby grant to Mosaic an irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free and fully paid, worldwide license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display and perform, prepare derivative works of, incorporate into other works, and otherwise use and exploit your User Content, and to grant sublicenses of the foregoing rights, solely for the purposes of including your User Content on the CANVAS Platform and for the purpose of enabling Mosaic to provide the Services . You hereby irrevocably waive (and agree to cause to be waived) any claims and assertions of moral rights or attribution with respect to your User Content."
      Basically, this means that Mosaic has very broad rights in using your models to try to help you use CANVAS, but outside of CANVAS, you retain all rights to your models.

    • @MosaicManufacturing
      @MosaicManufacturing 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Stefan! CANVAS will provide the best user experience, we also offer Chroma, a desktop app that processes GCode from other slicers. This is our current solution for Palette/Palette+ and will be updated to support Palette 2 as well.
      We make sure to publish any open source modifications and this will continue for CANVAS Hub which is OctoPrint based. While not being an open source company, we like to give back to the community in different ways, posting content and tutorials that extends past our products with the hope of advancing the 3D printing ecosystem.
