I have a 2023 Impreza base model that's a manual. The rev hang does suck, but there's a way to defeat it. If you let off the gas and wait a couple seconds, long enough to let the engine finish reviving up, before shifting, you won't notice any rev hang at all. That's the way I figured out how to do it. It sounds like a classic manual without rev hang when you use that method.
I know the WRX exists, what I meant was a middle of the road turbo trim in between the Sport and WRX. For those who want a bit more punch but not all out like the wrx. Like a smaller version of the Legacy Turbo
This car is left intentionally low on power by Subaru to push people into buying the more expensive WRX or STI models which has the turbo that you mentioned would be nice to have. 😁
Re Rev Hang, you can totally remove it for a bout $350 with a Tactrix 2 and SubaruEdit by editing the overrun air tables. Then the revs drop instantly. I also made adjustments to the closed loop to open loop transition and maps to get more consistent power throughout the RPM range. Subaru actually has a few decent tables. With a little tweaking they can be nice. Pulls much better now especially 2-4k range.
Really want one of these in a hatch and manual. But I wish they a little more power, and no i don't want a wrx. Even the 2.5L with 25 more hp would be perfect.
I picked up an 2021 manual hatchback. The gas mileage is about 24mpg city. You get used to the rev-hang. I would have liked more power to. In retrospect "now" I wish I could have gotten the Honda civic non turbo in manual.
question. on that shifter. can you accidentally put it into reverse like some idiots (me) or is there like a fool proof safty that stops me from doing so.
Fifth gear has a reverse lockout engaged, so you can’t go in to reverse from 5th. When your car is off, you can hear a slight click when you go into 5th gear. That’s the lockout engaging.
My dad and stepmom had a 2012 Impreza Hatchback (non sport mode I think) and that car was a standard as well. It's actually the car I learned how to drive standard on and I loved that car. Don't think that one had rev hang either so that was even better. I have a 2020 Si Coupe now and I got a Hondata FlashPro for it to disable the rev hang but the rev hang was horrible in my car before I disabled it. I actually hated the car for awhile because of it. Made me regret buying it and it made me want to trade it in. Thank fuck for Hondata because I would've gotten rid of the car if I couldn't get rid of the rev hang. I've always wanted another Impreza but if it has rev hang, no thanks. Not worth it to me. If it drove me nuts in the Si, it'd drive me nuts in the Impreza.
The gearbox is inferior to the Civic Si and they really should’ve added a 6th gear. Also, the 1-2 change is not the best. Takes time to get it down where as the Si and other similar cars have a much better transition. Otherwise, it’s a nice AWD small car drive. Everything is well balanced.
1-2 shift is horrible in the Si. I like that the Si is a 6 speed but the gearbox definitely sucks in that car. I had a 2020 Si Coupe for about 2 and a half years and the car had tons of rev hang and drove like absolute garbage when it was cold. I drove a 2012 Impreza before and the gearbox in that car felt way better than the one in the Si. I got rid of the Si and got a WRX and have no regrets whatsoever. Gearbox in the WRX is even better than the Si if you ask me. Honda needs to fix the rev hang in those cars and how they drive when they're cold.
@ haven’t driven the newer Si, my experience was before the went turbo and there wasn’t any rev hang. You have a more recent experience. My 2019 Impreza gearbox is not as good or smooth as others. I also had a 2017 Audi A3 S-line in diesel that was amazing to drive.
@@iali00 Ah. Ok. Gotcha. My apologies. Yeah, the newer ones have tons of rev hang. It's honestly the biggest reason I got rid of it. I did drive my buddies 1999 Si and I will say, that car was fun and drives great. It's honestly a shame what Honda did with the newer ones. Without the rev hang, they'd be amazing to drive. Rev hang just kills the driving experience for me.

If the revs hang that means you can and should take your time shifting into the next gear.
Nah man! Too much electronics!
"I kind of wish they made a turbo model"
WRX: Am I a joke to you?

I wish they just put a 2.5 in the car Subaru lost a new car sale when I bought a used 08.
@@Carguy1999Reviews I want that too but more so in a 2.5 RS that the GC8 first gen imprezas got it had a bigger motor
How is the ride height on this car ? Does it feel a lil low due to the low profile wheels & flat boxer engine?
I have a 2019 base. Feels a little low to the ground, but coming from a Honda Accord 2004 the ride height is negligible.
I just picked up an 2021 with 21,600m on it. I love it. 🏹🤠👍

The people who buy more powerful engines are in a different category. There’s a market for both. I’m pretty cynical too, but you win. 😂
It also helps their safety rating 😂
I love the red tachometer that the current wrx and brz don't comr with red anymore.

Care to do a video on it?
Sorry, I don't have time right now. Maybe in the future.
@@Josh.Davidsonit's the future sir. Do you have time now
@coryrohrbaugh1208 I did a writeup on the Subaru Impreza5 and XV forums. No time to do a video
@@Josh.Davidson np just asking. Where can I find the writeup? I'd be interested to read it
They do make a turbo model. It's called the WRX

great review Jacob!
Thanks Pete!
Getting the 2020 version very soon, just not sport. Still very excited!
same here just got one last month!

what? reverse is all the way down to the far right... and im pretty sure you can only go there from neutral
Auto vlogs did an experiment on this and literally nothing happened. The car just kept going forward

VERY NICE IMPREZA MANUAL..........MY IMPREZA 2011 HAVE LOW/HIGH......BRAZIL HERE
FINALLY SOMEONES CAP LOCKS IS BROKEN LIKE ME YAY!
If it was turbo charged, wouldn't that basically make it a wrx but with a 5 speed lol 😅
99% of time one is accelerating so rev hang going onto 3 rd gear no problem. you 'enthusiast" gonna have to bring it down a notch, or switch cars.
Nobody-
Jacob- im just gonna send it thrue winter
