    Some say not enough power but Subaru are not daft, they know what they are doing. Its not supposed to be a fast car otherwise they would shove a turbo under the hood. This is a tough, long lasting reliable car which will last long after your monthly payments have ended. Thats the point. Keep it and look after it because it will look after you :)

      Subaru's are about as good as you'll get for any road condition. My only issue with a WRX as a daily driver here in MA would be hitting potholes, since they're everywhere and the WRX has a sports suspension. I'm sure you could get used to it, but it would be rough.

    The Impreza Sport 5 speed manual is actually a great car despite the total lack of power. For one it is a manual transmission WITH awd so you can still have a lot of fun building the revs up and dumpin the clutch in the meat of the power band it would take off very quickly, for 2 it has the sportier suspension and Torque Vectoring AWD system similar to that of the WRX making it's limits well beyond that which the engine is capable of pushing. Also it's a 2.0 boxer four, it has the warble and will be reliable as hell. Lastly it can be modified and the AWD will allow for it to put the power down effectively.

    Thanks for doing this review. I've been wanting to see this exact model on the road. And I like how you got the wheels squeaking on the on ramp.
    It looks like this model has the blind spot detection which is a pretty rare option given it's a manual sport.
    Is there anything that would make this car more fun to drive or give it a little bit more performance / horsepower?
    I also hear that fifth gear revs a bit High...can you swap out a gear from a different transmission to give it a better ratio? I would love to be at about 2500 RPMs when I'm going 70 or 75 mph.

      Golden God does it rumble? Like does it have unequal headers?

    • @imoffendedthatyouareoffended
      @imoffendedthatyouareoffended 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Austin Quick atm no, the only uel headers that exist for the fb20 is about 1400$ which is retarded. I can get a wrx motor for 1250$ with a turbo. It doesn’t have much of a rumble but it is a deep tone which sounds lovely. Tons of pops as well. I’m most likely swapping out motors for a wrx one and staying around the stock power band for reliability. If you own the Impreza enjoy it for what it is, a cheap nice economy car. If you want to mod it, good luck the after market for the Impreza is almost non existent. As far as Dropping a different motor in it from Subaru, you should hypothetically be able to swap in a wrx or sti motor the only hiccup in that plan is the transmission might not be able to handle 250 - 315 hp. Although even that should still hypothetically bolt up together and still work. I’m still planning out the build but yeah, I’m most likely gunna swap a wrx motor into my 18 Impreza. A lot of people would say just get the wrx or an sti and that rings true for everyone else, but I wanna do something different. I prefer hatchback Subaru’s and this way I get what I want and it’s like a unicorn.

    I had a 2012 Impreza 2.0i and I didn't like it. The engine sounded harsh and whiny and combined with how slow it was, it felt unsatisfying to drive. The interior had a million squeaks and rattles, the seat snapped twice (I weigh 82 kg). It also burnt oil and needed regular top ups. Lastly the start stop system often stalled and left me with the engine off at green lights.

      I'm thinking the same but I'm looking at the 2020 model with 5spd manual and $19,075 base model. That is not bad for a 150+HP AWD car in 2020. I need awd for snow/ice/bad roads and ability to go anywhere in bad weather. Do not need a lot of HP, plus the car is 3000lbs so 152HP is adequate. A 6spd manual would have been a nice upgrade though. My Fiat used a 5 spd manual and that was a 1974 model. 46 years later a 6th gear would be just nice.

      The FB20 was designed for city driving. The components aren't designed for high revs or any kind of real stress. There are a lot of reasons modding this it adding nitrous is a bad idea, but the easiest to grasp is the calendar specs. They are fairly narrow and fairly long, making for more distance to be covered and moving the same amount of air. Helps efficiency, but limits the performance. Engine still goes fast enough for 90% of drivers as it is.

      Orange Juicy Ice That is a myth that floats around from older engines and oils being used. New cars don't really need that long to seat rings and break everything in. New parts and engineering designs have shorted number to almost nothing. Lot of tests have been done with (hard) break ins with no reliability issues. Some cars even sit at idle which is the worst thing you can do by the factory at ports and qc.

    There are a few reasons why this car with this drivetrain is simply bad.
    1. 5 speed gearbox? What is this? 1995?
    2. Rev hang. A lot of it. You are burning your clutch just by driving normally, so what happens if you start hooning it?
    3. Is that gearbox whine I heard? It's a new car FFS!

      ast5515 Subaru tends to make their cars more retro, for the people who give zero shits about modern car styling trends. A lot of cars seem overstyled nowadays in my opinion, even if they offer some performance or aerodynamic benefits (FK8 Civic Type-R, cough cough). In addition, some people really don't want so much power that they wouldn't know what to do with it. A 5-speed manual actually means that you have one less gear to worry about when downshifting.

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That random guy lurking in the comment section
      I agree in terms of styling.
      But not every modern thing is bad and I would expect a 6 speed manual without this crazy rev hang.
      It's a never ending uphill battle. Manufacturers give us shitty manuals, so nobody drives manuals. Nobody drives manuals, so why bother developing a good one?

    • @ast5515
      @ast5515 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry but have you ever driven a Subaru? Permanent AWD is power hungry. You feel about 110 hp out of that 150. If it had 200, you would feel like it has that 150 and you would be happy.
      I'm not expecting a WRX STi.

    • @kujiko88
      @kujiko88 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ast5515 the rev hang is an emissions thing, apparently. There another comment above about it.
      But it's a common thing in normal performance cars, or grocery getters. You won't find it in something like a mustang or corvette, but will in a cobalt or base Fiesta. But I like 5 speeds, but that's most likely because that's what I drive now.
