Thanks for watching!
Its literally brand new, its like having a 4k camera in 1999
literally my thoughts...
Minus the steering alignment. What is the deal with that?
or its like having a 1999 car in 2022
@RunningFromTwelve I dont think you understood what I meant but ok
try having multiple people in the car !
I know EXACTLY how that interior smells, brings me childhood memories of my dad's civic. Now it's mine ! 350K kilometers later and still stock. Honda never misses.
Check the compression because the piston rings could have worn quite a bit mate.
Then compare it to the factory compression specs
Stock is boring!
@@EastCoastmostwanted Thanks a lot mate

That startup, the beeps, the sound it made in reverse, all of it is so nostalgic for me. My dad had a 2000 civic EX, not and SI but damn I loved that civic so so much. It was manual as well. I cried when he sold it and I was about 14. I wanted to drive it in highschool so bad
Same thing happened to me. When my dad sold his I wanted to cry so much. This car deserved more praise imo.
I also had a 2000 Civic EX as my first car. I drive a 2020 Si now, but boy do I miss that old rust bucket. The chimes and start up sounds of this 1999 si really brought back memories
I cry over civics everyday
@@MultiSneakerLover hahaha
yep my dad sold his 2001 ex and i cried lol. I was about 8 or 9 but he then got a 2012 civic si, so i guess it all worked out in the end. I still wish I was able to drive the '01 ex.
That double foot tap you did when you got in the car was the ultimate show of respect for such a clean machine.. great video
i thought the same hahaha
He does it for every single car. They all deserve respect
I do that in all cars 😂
I love that interior so much. No bs, no screens, just a nice clear gauge cluster, simple buttons for radio and HVAC, grippy cloth seats and fantastic visibility thanks to those tiny pillars.
Yeah but safety is not good
@@Gabztar97 Eyeroll....
@Frank Uvalde you probably just can’t drive
@@Ghibleeusa lol did u Read his comment. He said the lane assist pulled him into the other lanes
@Frank Uvalde You can turn off the lane centering feature.
I love that you mentioned the visibility. The visibility in these cars as well as the hatchbacks are insanely good. You don’t even need side mirrors cause you can see everything with the one rear view mirror in the car.
Old cars got awesome visibility, now new cars are safer but most of them have more blind spots
Old Hondas really are just a different breed. All of them have such a character to them, it’s just a joy to drive any of them.
I don't agree. I had a 99 Si back in the eaely 2000s and I never understood the hype. I actually repurchased my 95' MR2 after a year of owning it and sold the Si shortly after. The Si was just overhyped my friend. To be completely frank, I had more fun with my 8th gen Si coupe and that's not saying a lot.
@@JungSooLeee Some people shouldn’t have opinions either. 8th civic is one of the ugliest models they made. Older Hondas are different.
@@waterloo123100 facts especially the ugly looking sedans everyone D.... rides them alot cuz supposely the coupes look weird the sedan are uglier like the tail lights and shape plus the digital odometer is annoying they should have just made SI rare like they did in the 90s
HEY! I like my FA5……😢
@@DivineX9 Those mental midgets are delusional to think the FA5 is uglier than the older Hondas. FG2 is known as one of the best designed civics of all time. Transcending vehicle design. Those two homies probably take it up the pooper every day so their opinions are worthless.
A true example of a car with character and proof that you don't need all the power to enjoy it. Truly one of my favorite cars of all time, only ever owned EX and LX 6th gen Civics myself but an SI was always sought after.

It’s so important because you see what was improved and what wasn’t over the years. These are such good cars!!
@@pascutia honestly even something like a corolla. My dad had a 1999 Corolla Ve and it was actually small and nimble. Not to mention it was the most reliable engine I've ever seen, the panels rusted away before the engine which was still running great.

I didn't know low mileage for this car even still exists! That's super amazing. Definitely one of the best looking Hondas out there
It's insane one of these still exists in this condition, wow.
Because this is from Honda this is probably the first build ones and they guy to car gurus to review it
Thank god it wasn't riced
I wish they still would make more of these
There's still a few old people who just won't move on the next life out there who have some lol.
@@TheBasher-_- it's horrible living in Florida and seeing this happen lmao. So many older people with extremely mint vehicles won't let them go. Fuckers are driving them till they hit the grave, then the car is either given through inheritance or will, or unfortunately sat in some barn/hidden in their backyard until someone finds it by accident. I hate this state 😭
I had a red 2000 SI and watching this video brings back so many memories. Redlining it in 3rd gear was quite the experience. I can even still smell the interior while watching this.
I had civic (1999, 1,8L) for 4 years. Wow, what a car! Amazing dynamic. That sound of VTEC is absolutely like cosmic music! You just always have a smile of pleasure and joy while driving. And always several times I glanced at the car while walking home after driving. Modern cars with all that electronic devices do not give those emotions. CIVIC 1999 - true love!))
No such thing as a 1.8 it’s a 1.6
@@Bbc418In Europe there was an 1.8 vtec Civic with 169 HP (B18C engine). But in a different chassis, cooperation with Rover, made in England.
it’s the headlights for me, so well kept! feels like this was actually shot twenty years ago.
Thanks for this! I had an '00 Si I got to keep for about eight months before it was stolen, found two weeks later "surgically stripped for parts." There was actually a lot not to like about the Si: no ABS and rear brakes that locked too easily, it desperately needed a sixth gear (note it revving near 4500 rpm at 80 mph), gas mileage was never close to the EPA rating, the stereo was so weak you had to crank it to distortion levels just to hear it, and mine was a constant rattletrap (dash, sunroof, rear interior panels, etc.) from day one, surprising for a Honda. But man, every run to the redline was driving nirvana. Not fast by today's standards, but so great to ring out. Even bone stock, it sounded amazing. Plus it had sophisticated front and rear double-wishbone suspension and that great old-school Honda steering and transmission feel. I'd forgotten what it was like--this vid brings back great memories.
@@supercrazyba I’ve ran into that as well. You end up going into 5th at like 40mph if you’re cruising, but it gets loud after 3,500 RPM on the highway. I think it’s really weird how it has the same issue that my old 1988 EF sedan had. The clutch and engine feel literally the same. I don’t get it. Compared to a 2001 EM2.
I have an EG Si and the driving dynamics are very similar, think slightly taller gearing and slightly more torque. One advantage of the single cam D series is that it's turning "only" 3000 rpm at 75, which is a little more relaxed, and i get around 36-38 us mpg at that speed. I agree they aren't perfect cars, like Kurt says, but they win on charm.
Gotta always have them garage kept AND delete that stupid ignition tumbler where crackheads can stick a screwdriver in to start the car.
@Adam A. What upgrade was that? Just curious. I know that the EX/LX 5th gear was slightly taller and I really wish my Si had that when going 80 on the freeway.
"every run to the redline was driving nirvana" is such a boss ass line
I think 90s cars were some of the best cars in the industry, a big turning point for brands like Toyota and Honda, Sports cars everywhere, with fame from the blockbuster movie
Fast and Furious making all of the 90s cars iconic and collectible.
That starter startup sound brings back SO MANY MEMORIES
werr cha cha cha 😂
10:49 You fell in love with how the engine and the shifter felt, lol! Perfect rev matching rowing through the gears, man! 😻
Wow it’s like stepping back in time and into my friends SI in electron blue. I was so jealous he had one and great to see one in perfect oem condition!
Idk why but I love those horn buttons!!
The only thing I would have on mine if I owned this would be the spoiler that’s it
This makes me miss my 98 Civic LX so much. Sure it was the non-VTEC but it was a manual, and with a moderate drop and 215 wide sport tires, the thing was an absolute go-kart. I would get beat from a light by minivans, but I didn't care. I was having way too much fun redlining all of the gears! Thanks Topher for making this video, it's total nostalgia!
what a car! I remember dreaming of having one of those in high school when that body style came out. Best color too! Simply beautiful!
It was definitely a fav! I absolutely loved the Guage cluster
That was definitely THE car to have in high school in 1999. My brother had an HX manual, enjoyed driving that model but Si….
same here....Class of 02 by the way
@@bigrig9749 01 here. We had the pleasure of being in high school when some of the most epic cars ever were being sold!
@@bigrig9749 ‘99. I remember various student or parent cars, 300ZXs, 3000GTs, RX7, preludes, land cruisers, 535is, LS400s, Q45s, etc. definitely the good days.
Love old Honda Civic's. I run a nineteen year old Civic 1.6 SOHC VTEC hatch (UK spec) with a manual transmission. Runs great and is very clean condition wise. So much so, I now store it during winter to keep it away from the salty Scottish winter roads.
Such a clean example! Extremly difficult to find an example like this. Would love to find one and own one myself someday.
My fav civic along w/93 Hatch SI! Another nice to own would the Integra Type R. I bought a "commuter" back in the day. 99 GS-R and got bored with it. Decided to build a NA LS-V that rev'd past 9.6k RPMs with an LS 5th gear. Going up the Grapevine between Bakersfield/LA, never needed to downshift. Just left in 5th and cruised!
@@Chinese_Chicken A GS-R back then those must of been abundant now they are just as desirable as this civic SI. That LS must of sounded great revving up to 9k. Would like to build an LS as well someday, you got the reliability and the power. I dream of owning an Integra Type R (preferably a DC2 but a DC5 would be just as good) and that is high up on my list of cars I would own.
@@jmax7916 I lived in S Cal, so a lot of em were salvage title due to theft, but everywhere on CL from $2k-8 for a clean one. Car sounded good, especially when Vtec kicked in, "Yo" on the Skunk Cams. An LSD would've been ideal with it too..
Can't go wrong with the DC2 or DC5. IMO, 1 is more iconic with an interior that I prefer, and the other looks better when when modded. But both are targets for thieves lol
An example like this is beyond extremely difficult to find, its impossible! this is probably the cleanest one in the world, a pretty much brand new civic from 23 years ago
@@Baronvanhausen88 Exactly. To find any classic Civic, especially an Si that's unmolested, is a bona fide unicorn.
How I miss my 99 EX sedan. It fitted like a glove, everything was in hands reach, hugged the bends and did the loudest 0-20 I've ever seen. It could fit a surprising ammount of stuff, it practically moved the entire gear for a music festival by itself in a couple of runs.
Mine had cloth seats + upgraded speakers for the ultimate hotbox experience.
This was the car back in high school. Honda really made a solid product. Looks like this clean example only needs an alignment to make it perfect.
Love it...this is a real car. I had a ride on a crx when i was 16... i will never forget that ride...

I just bought a 1999 EX last week from the original owner. Such a good car and really fun to drive!
Love this interior. So clean and no distractions, no screens or gadgets. Let the driving do the entertainment.
I owned a 1999-2000 Blue 💙 Civic SI just like that one. I traded my 90 Civic SI in on it. Brought it in Brighton, MI. Great car and loved it. The only drawback was that it required premium gas, but it got 28-32 MPG. The last manual shift car I owned. Thanks so much for the drive and review 😎! OMG THAT HONDA CHIME WHEN YOU STARTED IT UP, it reminds me of when my mom drove a 2005 Honda Civic back in the day, and it gives me a lot of memories. The 90s was an amazing decade for Honda, and showed what they were capable of in terms of quality cars and engine technology. I remember first seeing this 6th generation Civic when I first played Need for Speed: Underground back in the day. It was one of the first cars I chose to drive in the game, and now seeing it, it just has a truly timeless design to it, that I still love to this day. And this shows us that simplicity can be a good thing, because this car is all about one thing: driving and enjoying the driving experience.
I still break my neck if I see this car out in the wild. Modded or not, this car is a beauty.
YES finally I’ve been waiting for a high quality TH-camr to put out a stock EM1 SI pov driving video, love it
My first car was a 1999 Civic EX. You never forget your first car. This brought back some serious early high school memories!
My god how I miss how beautiful elegant and simple Hondas we’re back then. We really didn’t know how good we had it. 😅 And what a beautiful colour!
I like how he kicked his shoes before stepping back in. A true appreciation to this beautiful gem.
One of my favs. That blue was like the Si’s signature color!
A true enthusiast is enjoying driving exotic super cars but still being able to appreciate cars like this as well
GOD! What a beauty! Timeless design and that orgasmic sounding engine is just sublime!!
One of the most iconic, reliable, durable and fun cars ever made. 👌
Nice blast from the past. Brought back some good memories. Bought my 99 for 17k new back in the day. Miss it. Had to get rid of it after it was stolen for the second time back when I was stationed in San Diego.

That startup sound is evergreen 👌
Edit :- no matter how old are you or how expensive cars do you own, civics from this Era just doesn't lets you to grow up, it unleashes your inner child 😆
I use to fawn over pictures of the 99 Si, flipping through issues of Super Street in the high school cafeteria
Me as well! Graduated in 2001. One of my best friends had one of these and his sister had a yellow type-r. My best friend had an 1987 190 2.3 16v with the dogleg manual. Other best friend had a 1994 Taurus SHO 5mt…I had a 1987 MK2 GTI with an 8V VR6 swap. Full corrado interior including the Recaros, Schrick intake manifold/header, 268 cam, Neuspeed intake/exhaust, Neuspeed chip and dyno tune. HÖR coilovers and all Neuspeed bars/suspension on 16” OZ 5 spokes. It was by far the quickest on the streets and at Pueblo Motorsports park. Ran high 13’s after the Quaife LSD and mid 13’s with the ZEX 50 shot. That was WITH 2 12’s in the trunk and full interior. Unfortunately I blew it up and my dad put a 2.0 16v and gave it to my brother as his first car. It had way too much power to weight ratio and he ran it into a curb shortly after getting his license. It sat at my folks house for years before I sold it for WAY too cheap. I had just signed my first professional hockey contract out of high school and ended up in 1992 LS-S integra with a JDM B20z swap. FBO and tuned…no VTEC but the torque made all the difference. Loved that car and it took me all over North America while I played in the minors with ZERO issues. Unfortunately it was stolen shortly after I moved to play for the “solar bears”…found in the desert completely stripped and wrecked. Insurance paid well and I rebuilt it. Worst part of it all was losing my collection of 400 CD’s. I’ll never emotionally recover from that.
I never owned civics. But back then I also never knew this 99 si would age this well. I must say in terms of Si designs, this model and the following model are one of the best looking. I especially like the rally inspired dash mounted shifter and simplistic hatch design.
The Civic SiR are wicked cool little hatches!

I use to talk crap about honda all the time.. then i got my 01 honda accord with 250k miles... BEST. CAR. EVER. what can i say the car does what its suppose todo, get you from A to B without any problems at all.. in a world where "New cars" break within the first months of owning it or get a check engine light because your gas cap isnt tight, its really nice to have a car thats actually reliable no stupid computers, NO Tech. The car just works! Every. Dam. Time. Amazing.
Not gonna lie, owning one of these was a soul crushing experiences. It was one of my dream cars and I saved a bit here and there for years to be able to buy one. Found a black '00 at a dealership with a little under 100k miles on it for $8500 and was super stoked to take it home. I was in love with it at first, but after about a month, the engine blew thanks to a faulty timing belt tensioner and I had to put it into storage for a while till I could afford a replacement. After I had it back on the road, basically everything that could go wrong with it did. The replacement engine never seemed to run right, and everything started breaking on it. I got fed up with it after less than 2 years and sold it off as a mechanic's special for $1200. I've never had a car give me more issues than that Civic. I take very good care of my vehicles too, but it seemed like anytime I got something fixed, 3 more things on it broke.
thst sucks usually Hondas dint give problems like that early on maybe someone who had it beat on it so much and did something stupid to cause it to be that way
Yeah so the Honda SI model with high mileage usually are a bad buy because they are treated poorly. If you really like Older Hondas i would look at an S2000 below 30k miles, and same goes for the newer si gens. People tink with them too and you'll only found out later LOL.
Owned several Hondas in high school and in my 20's this video brings back some major nostalgia. Such awesome cars.

This is such a beautiful and well preserved piece of Japanese automotive engineering. I love the blue on this car, in fact this era of the civic reminds me of my grandmothers four-door civic that she had in a dark purple before she upgraded to a 2005 civic SI.
I remember my very first Honda that I experienced was a 1996 Honda accord EX, I remember growing up with that car when I was little and then we traded it in for a brand new 2007 Honda Accord special edition and I still miss that car to this day.

I still own mine. Just had major maintenance done this past spring. Had clutch replaced, cooling system flushed and new hoses and thermostat replaced, header bolts replaced due to an exhaust leak, ac system recharged and schrader valves replaced. Now its actually more fun to drive. Heat works now, can chirp 1st thru 3rd.
I still remember the 1996 Japan full spec (auto transmission) my dad had. From the leather seats to power produced by that engine. Everything was just perfect about it. We also had an E36 but man that Civic was something else.
God the sounds of the engine as it sits and cools just brought me back to my first car a 2002 Honda Civic coupe. I forgot that sound :')
Yess this civic is a masterpiece
I had a 1995 Civic Si hatchback (red!), also 5-speed manual. I loved it so much. Tragically it was totaled (nobody was hurt) and the insurance payment went into a '99 Acura Integra (which I also loved). That driving POV shot was very nostalgic!
What a clean car! Thanks for another drive. Man this car is older than me but I can appreciate this car even though there is barely a nostalgia factor. Back when 4 cylinder engines actually had character
That’s what defined Hondas that time-screaming to 8000-9000 RPM instead of the usual 7000 RPM

The car of "we used to live in a proper world"... A moment of silence for these things. So many were trashed, wrapped around trees, parted out. When people joked about Civics at 3 AM this is what they were referring to, affordable and reliable fun cars, and now it's all gone.
