I have the 2019 base model as well. The car is rated 38 MPG highway and with a bit of gentile acceleration off the line it does 38 MPG. I do keep the tires at 38 PSI. I would love to say it's a great car but it is not, it's just a good car unless it's snowing. The negatives are there to deal with. My a/c is not blowing cold so back to the dealer for repairs, It's not even 2 years old. I'm 5'8'' and I find myself hanging my head to get a better view out of the windshield. It would be nice if the windshield was an inch higher. The android auto works well usually with my S7 phone but sometimes glitches do happen, could just be the phone thou. Im leasing a 2019 Impreza sedan. Had it for almost 2 years after two Nissan Altimas. I like this car much better. Handles very nicely. Yeah the fuel tank is small. Im actually considering buying it at the end of lease next August
Awesome! Glad the car is treating you well. Agreed, it's amazing how well these cars handle, and the general steering feel is just great imo. Maintain the car and it will last a very long time!
I bought a new Impreza base model in 2018. A zonk on the base is, hub caps are the shits. I have lost 12 of them. Put some wheels on this car. Secondly, what does it cost to put the fog lights on? We love our car so much, that we bought another one in 2022. But we got smart. We bought the premium trim. Got the wheels. And got by the fog lights. And price was still very reasonable. We also own a 2029 forester. It’s a good car. Premium is the way to go.
Agreed, my guess is because this is the very base model with absolutely no options added they just stick on the cheapest mirrors as an after fact? The one that was on my 18 Audi S4 was really nicely mounted. Not to compare.
NEMotoGuy cheers for the reply. Im in the UK, just looked on website at local dealers and it appears if you have the eyesight models, the mirror is fixed to the roof.
My pleasure! Agreed, my wife has a 2019 Crosstrek Limited with Eyesight and you name it, and the mirror is securely bolted in place. Much nicer quality mirror than the one in my base Impreza...but I did know I was getting the bottom tier Subaru, so it does the job. Auto dimming would be nice though :(
Honestly the CVT is just fine. It get's a ton of hate here in the States, due to some reliability issues people have had. I don't mind it at all for a cheap easy auto daily driver. The only thing I have noticed when driving, is when the car is still warming up, there is some slight bucking at slow acceleration. Nothing bothersome, but noticeable. As far as quickness, it is just okay when shifting simulated gears in my opinion. It isn't slow, but you can definitely notice a pause when it "shifts". When you floor the accelerator pedal though, it is less noticeable and shifts at a decent speed. Combined with the AWD system the CVT works pretty good, compared to any other CVT out there. Now, the CVT in our Crosstrek doesn't seem to have the bucking issue, which I find strange...not a bad thing. If you are looking for a long term automatic vehicle, with less maintenance involved, maybe get a more traditional automatic. For example, the one that was in my S4 (ZF-8Speed), two different cars I know, but that true automatic transmission was absolutely INCREDIBLE. Completely smooth, and very very quick to shift and respond.
Honestly just fine. Due to the smaller tire size as well it helps cut through snow easier and generally get around just fine. I haven’t driven in a blizzard atmosphere yet however. I didn’t experience any issue getting up hills or slowing down cautiously either.
I looked into the base hatchback model actually. The only reason I chose the sedan was because it is actually cheaper. I wanted to keep the cost as low as possible. If I truly needed to haul more my fiancé’s Crosstrek should do the trick.

Is there a way to get a digital speed on there with settings?? My brother just got this exact car except we’re so used to having the digital number being right in front of us, wasn’t sure if there was a way to get it up there besides the gauge
It depends on which model you have. Mine is the very base model with no digital gauges, so there is no way to get a digital speed reading. If you have a premium or above, it should come with a digital reading standard in the cluster.
I am not 100% sure why JD Power gave it such a low rating. My guess would be due to small quality control issues like rattling components, or cheaper plastics and materials used. So far the only issues I have had are slight rattling in the cabin, which I honestly expected since mine is the base model and Subaru is known for having rattling in their cars at times. Also the biggest issue I have had is a clunking in the front suspension, which is being covered under warranty. I have a video discussing this issue further if you are interested. The issue has since come back and I am working with the dealership to resolve this soon. Other than that, the car is perfect, and has been very reliable. It has never left me stranded, always works and drives amazing. The handling is incredible for what this car is classified. Fuel economy is not bad, and it has the trusted Subaru Symmetrical AWD.
@@NEMotoGuy Great, thanks so much for the feedback. I was a little worried, but from whatever else I could see online and in review videos, there was nothing outstanding on the car so I was a bit confused.
Alright so I can safely say that if you want to continue the feel of the size of the Dart you drive now, the Impreza sedan is a perfect transition. It is very easy to drive and maneuver around in small spaces. It's peppy and steering is surprisingly sharp. The Crosstrek that we also have, is the Limited top trim, so it has everything is is a very very comfortable ride. It is higher off the ground than the Impreza/Dart. I wouldn't say it's much bigger in terms of drive-ability and maneuverability. Steering is definitely lighter than the Impreza. Both great cars overall. The Crosstrek can clear more types of terrain than the Impreza, but overall not crazy different. Hope that helps. Definitely recommend test driving both before making a final decision.
@@raveelmo Not a weird question at all. It drive just like a car. It is not as high up as a standard truck. Visibility and drive-ability are the same as a normal car for the Crosstrek.

Hey, congrats on the new car! Don’t let those issues scare you away from the car. It’s a great car overall, and the trim you have is a higher level and much nicer. I’ve never had windshield issues with any of my Subaru’s, except for a cracked windshield on my 17 STI, but that was from a rock on the highway. The suspension is working just fine on mine, I think it can be temperamental depending on the whether as far as noises though. So far so good, enjoy the new car!
Ultimate Warrior I have a 2018 hatchback Impreza my friend copied me and got the same car just not the base model like I went for because manual. Both our windshields are cracked, I got a chip 1 month of owning it, my buddy had a cracked windshield in the first month. Now after a year I got a massive crack, if it happens to you just upgrade to the thicker glass, so long as you don’t have eye sight. I’m still annoyed I have to replace it but like I said I’m going for the thicker windshield so I don’t have this issue again.
@@imoffendedthatyouareoffended yo dude i exchanged the car the guys at the dealer were actually pretty good about it. I did have the eyesight package but now im getting a 2020 base model wrx manual, i feel much more relieved on so many levels
Where is the trunk release?? I keep trying to get in trunk with car on and it doesn't work unless all doors are unlocked. I looked at owner manual and it says there is a lever where the gas release is but mine does not have this! I literally cannot open my trunk unless I have the key and or all doors are unlocked and if they are not then the key cannot be in the ignition for me to touch the button. Just so disappointed I don't have a simple lever by left foot where gas release is. So weird
Hi, in the 2019 Subaru Impreza the trunk release should be in the same section as the fuel cap release by the drivers side door/foot-well area. I just checked my car again and I can confirm the interior trunk release latch is right in front of the fuel cap release on the drivers side. There should be two latches in this area. I hope this helps. Let me know if you were able to find it.
@@NEMotoGuy thanks for reply and video. I will have to take a picture to prove it but my base model hatchback 2019 does not have the second latch for the trunk where the gas lever is. Lol. Still a great car. Perhaps can verify with the DEALERSHIP I am not missing something. It is in the manual but not on the car lol.
Erika Morgan Ahh you have a hatchback. I own the sedan version and only the sedan has a latch to release the trunk from the inside. Subaru hatchbacks (especially base) do not have a lever on the inside to open the trunk. This is completely normal for your hatchback Impreza. You would have to unlock your car with the key FOB and open from the button on your trunk. I had a 16 Impreza Sport Hatch years ago and this was the same case. Hope this helped.
Do you still have the 2019 impreza? Do you still like it 2 years later? Has it needed any repairs? CVT still good? BTW awesome way to start your videos “ your friendly neighborhood Armenian here”
Thank you for that feedback! Noted, and will have to continue spicing it up with those intros! I sold the Impreza around June of 2020, as I had no need for a daily driver anymore due to Covid, and the ability to work from home. However, the car really didn't give me any issues at all. I had some weird rattle when I first bought it, but that was nothing serious and it was actually related to weather. The CVT was just fine for a daily. I had it for about 1.5 years in MA. It is not quick at all, but it is smooth and comfortable. All I did to the car was get its regular oil/filter changes a few times. No repairs were needed. Although I did get the car brand new. Excellent cheap, reliable, AWD daily in my opinion. I had the base model with absolutely no options or crazy tech, and I have to say it was kinda wonderful going back to a simple driving experience. Cheers!
It’s comfortable enough. I daily mine but one way is only about 20 minutes. The cloth seats aren’t bad to be honest and I could definitely see myself driving at least a couple hours if not longer in the Impreza. Seats have enough cushion in them to be bearable for longer commutes.
I watch this in Audi. I think Impreza in US is a "sport car" for majority part of the population (those crappy suv's) 😀 I like it much - simple and practical. What worries me is that it consumes lot of fuel (typical for japanese cars). But that's not problem for u 😉
Thank you! For a compact sedan the clearance is not bad. I never scraped the underside or front bumper/lip area. It’s actually got a decent amount of clearance and the suspension feel smooth as well. If you need a bit more clearance, maybe consider the Crosstrek? My wife has one and we love that car! Excellent clearance and perfect for off road/all terrain situations.
Although I have had my 19 Impreza for a month now, I actually just filled up the tank this morning for the first time. I put 180 miles exactly on the car from a full tank. probably had about another 15-20 miles before empty. With combined highway and city driving and really not being aggressive with the throttle, I can confirm the tank being pretty small. Although the MPG's are great, that small tank is definitely a weak point as well. I am going to follow up once I do a full break in to see if fuel economy improves over time. I am guessing Subaru used a smaller fuel tank due to the size of the vehicle to keep it compact and "lighter" in this segment?
It’s 13.2 gallons. I would say the average driver is getting about 24-28 combined mpg’s. Not too bad, but a 14.7 (15 gallon) tank would definitely be nicer to have. With the cold weather, plus the fact that my car is brand new, I’m averaging 200 miles per tank right now. More city than highway driving.
Absolutely. This has been the case with all my new vehicles during engine break in. I am sure it will get a bit better over time, and during the warmer weather with better fuel at the pumps.
That seems very sketchy to me. Check if it’s rebuilt or has some accidents to it’s title. That’s is way to low of a price for that year and mileage. I would use caution when looking at this vehicle.
Did you consider or drive the manual transmission version of this model? I almost bought a 5 speed base model years back but went the Outback route. Now on 2nd OB. But sometimes wonder if I would have liked the Impreza.
I did not drive the manual one before making the decision. I wanted to stick with the auto as its my daily and I just wanted a car that would be easy to drive through traffic, etc...However, part of me is now thinking if I should have opted for the manual.
@@NEMotoGuy Probably right choice as daily driver. I really liked the feel of the Impreza. I'm good with a manual but recall being jerky with it initially. Maybe it was rev hang. Their website for '20's makes it appear the base is only model available with manual now. Even sport is cvt.
@@80srockerable Interesting. The clutch probably needed to be worn in for the first 1-2K miles. Yea, I think they are moving away from manuals. Only the WRX/BRZ lineups are looking to have manuals in the distant future. The CVT gets a ton of hate, but personally I don't have any issues with it for the way I drive and how I maintain my cars.
@@NEMotoGuy Agree. Been impressed with CVT in the '13 & '16 I've had. It really crawls up the several floors of work parking ramp nicely. And the CVT keeps rpms lower @highway speeds & mpg higher v manual.
Honestly it is a completely different car. I truly miss the Audi. If it didn't give me the problems that it did, I would have preferred that for my daily and fun car. The base Impreza has zero frills or creature comforts like the Audi. It is nice to have something simple, but at times I do miss the overall luxury and refinement of the Audi. In the end this car does the trick for me for being a simple daily commuter. Having this has also freed up space for me to add my new 2020 Supra to the garage so I can have the practical commuter of this Subaru and the sporty/refinement of the new Supra together.
Subaru far better can than Audi. Ive had a couple of Audis and they are not made as well as they like you to think. Overpriced bling, I hated the image and the way people looked at me, so I got rid and got a Suzuki instead. Much better in so many ways. Hopefully Subaru my next car.
Haha. Honestly I have owned sportscars and basic commuters. Generally I go easy on the throttle the first 1,000 miles, and do an oil and filter change at that mark as well. At the same time during the break in period I like to accelerate a few times just under redline. This helps seal components of the engine better, as well as properly shape the cylinders. Generally it is recommended that you do not let the rpm's stay at a constant speed for long periods during break in. For example long highway drives in the overdrive gear. In these scenarios I would either accelerate to drop a gear or downshift and accelerate then shift again to fluctuate the engine speed. Aside from that it is really the maintenance upkeep that matters during break in or in the general life of the vehicle in my opinion. It honestly varies from person to person. When I had my 2013 Subaru STI I was told to not drive over 3K rpms, do an oil change at 750 miles and again at 1,500...I did that, and honestly there was no need to baby the car that much. Giving the car some "beans" during break-in is actually better for the performance of the motor in the long run. Sorry for the long response, hope that helps!
@@NEMotoGuy Seems like I have not break in my SUV properly after reading your tips 😂. I was just learning how to drive after I purchased my first car and I wasn't even able to do the 'drive it like I stole it' kind of break in for its first 1,000 miles. Now I'll be able to break in my next car properly, as I'm looking to buy a smaller car to replace my SUV as my daily car... My eyes are all over the Impreza (2.0i-S, the only model available in our market) and the Honda Civic E (base model civic of the asian market) which costs $22.5KUSD vs the Impreza at $28.9KUSD. Thanks a bunch mate
@@rafvierthstein5210 Oh my pleasure! Glad I was able to help. To be honest I am sure you broke your car in just fine. There is no real "perfect" way to break in the car. Everyone will tell you something different. The main thing is as long as you do proper maintenance and don't go overboard with "beating" on the car during break in. For example redlining in first gear for long periods haha. That is going overboard, but you get my point. That is such a huge markup on the cars. Interesting to know exactly why, possibly the taxes and vehicle fees? Good luck on the purchase! Feel free to ask any more questions that come to mind!
NEMotoGuy i have a question for you. The oil change at 1k miles, is that also recommended by the manufacturer? I ask for the following reason: will the dealership look at me weird for bringing the vehicle in for an oil change at the 1k mark? Or is that encouraged and standard. I’m at the 500 mile mark, so I will be following your advice.
Personally I like the CVT. No complaints on it really. It works fine, and is able to simulate gears like a true automatic transmission pretty well. I have owned a total of four Subaru vehicles with the CVT (16 Legacy 3.6R, 16 Impreza Sport, and 19 Crosstrek/Impreza), and non of them have given me issues. I did consider getting a manual transmission impreza actually. The only reason I opted out was because I just wanted an easy daily commuter, that was just simple and effortless to drive. Not to say manual transmission would be difficult.
NEMotoGuy I hear what you’re saying. I’ve been torn about the CVT or manual dilemma. I currently have an older manual Altima and a newer automatic Golf. Would be replacing the Golf so will probably have to be auto. The Legacy 3.6R looks appealing or even the 4 cylinder Legacy Limited.
I loved the Legacy I had. I only got rid of it to make room for the 2017 WRX STi at the time. Regardless of the engine size, it is still a wonderful car. So far I have never had any problems with Subaru's CVT. The 2016 Impreza we had for three years and not one problem. Check out my review on my 2016 Legacy if you are interested in the general quality. Subaru only seems to improve the model through the years with nice refresh and tweaks. th-cam.com/video/rOnSX5NMp-s/w-d-xo.html
No problem! The 19 Impreza I have now, overall is much easier to maneuver due to the size difference. The Legacy can seat five people easily and comfortably. Depending on whether you go with the higher tier Legacy, it can compete with, in my opinion, some German luxury brands. The Legacy is much more spacious, and feels more premium than the Impreza. If you compare the base model of each I really don't see too much of a difference aside from the size to be honest. I believe the Legacy no longer offers a manual transmission option either. When I had the 16 Legacy 3.5R Limited, basically fully loaded, I was not in regret or jealous of premium luxury brand vehicles.
5 things I HATE about this car:- 1) low resale value 2) poor long term reliabilty 3) shitty after-sales service 4) problematic CVT 5) under-powered engine
It's not the fastest thing out there for sure. But you would be surprised at how peppy it is as a cheap daily driver with a flat four cylinder engine. From a stop you can get moving pretty quick due to the AWD. Definitely needs more throttle input for passing on highways, but then again this was not intended to be a high HP/TQ vehicle. I haven't really had any issues with the lack of power...yet lol.
@@brokenlife1263 Haha I know, but I mean it is the base Impreza, with the smallest engine offered by Subaru. Well lowest performing output in the states I should say. And surprisingly due to it's weight it's pretty peppy for a daily street commuter, I am not going to lie. And this is me coming from a 400HP V6 Audi S4 haha. Still miss that kind of power though don't get me wrong.

@@NEMotoGuy weird question just a Crosstrek drive more like a car or truck.
@@raveelmo Not a weird question at all. It drive just like a car. It is not as high up as a standard truck. Visibility and drive-ability are the same as a normal car for the Crosstrek.
Did you get a new Subaru yet?
bro i just bought a 2018 sport tech its supposed to be the fully loaded one im super pumped. im worried about the small front suspension issues also i heard theres been known to be issues with the front windshield im nervous but still excited. hoping for the best. i pick it up tomorrow, i hope everything works out
Hey, congrats on the new car!
Cheers!
Are seats comfy enough for a 2 hr drive to work?
It’s comfortable enough. I daily mine but one way is only about 20 minutes. The cloth seats aren’t bad to be honest and I could definitely see myself driving at least a couple hours if not longer in the Impreza. Seats have enough cushion in them to be bearable for longer commutes.
Not for me
I watch this in Audi. I think Impreza in US is a "sport car" for majority part of the population (those crappy suv's) 😀 I like it much - simple and practical. What worries me is that it consumes lot of fuel (typical for japanese cars). But that's not problem for u 😉
Nice review -thinking about this vehicle.....I have to consider a vehicle with decent ground clearance🤔
See the man at cars101.
My biggest complaint about the 2019 Impreza is the fuel tank it's small. Other than the fuel tank I love my impreza, it has the eyes great feature.
@@NEMotoGuy what is the size of the tank?
It’s 13.2 gallons. I would say the average driver is getting about 24-28 combined mpg’s. Not too bad, but a 14.7 (15 gallon) tank would definitely be nicer to have. With the cold weather, plus the fact that my car is brand new, I’m averaging 200 miles per tank right now. More city than highway driving.
Absolutely. This has been the case with all my new vehicles during engine break in. I am sure it will get a bit better over time, and during the warmer weather with better fuel at the pumps.
Subaru sedan Impreza 2018 10k miles, eyesight set to dynamic (Took me a while to realize this was an option, love it), mostly city, high 27 mpg!
Found a Premium in my area for about 16900 with 14k miles is that a good deal?
Depends on what year? Seems like a very low price for a newer model. I would definitely inspect that thoroughly first.
@@NEMotoGuy it's a 2019
That seems very sketchy to me. Check if it’s rebuilt or has some accidents to it’s title. That’s is way to low of a price for that year and mileage. I would use caution when looking at this vehicle.
@@NEMotoGuy okay
@@NEMotoGuy it's being sold at a local dealer, it could be just them needing a sale, pretty sure the car market is hurting atm due to covid etc.
Nice bro
@@80srockerable The sport hatch has a manual option.
How do you like the Subaru compared to the Audi?
I wanna know how do you break in a car properly. Tell me your ways 😁
What gas do you put?
87 Octane gas.
What are your thoughts on the CVT? Did you consider the manual?
NEMotoGuy thanks bro!! How would you compare the legacy and Imprezas, beyond the obvious differences??
5 things I HATE about this car:-
1) low resale value
2) poor long term reliabilty
3) shitty after-sales service
4) problematic CVT
5) under-powered engine
gad abdat low resale value on a Subaru?!?

@@rafvierthstein5210 WOW! Is that the base model or the fully limited model? That is incredibly high pricing in your market...sorry :(

110hp is total garbage tho.
@@NEMotoGuy Isnt it 152Hp?
Correct 152 hp and 145 lb-ft.
@@NEMotoGuy O gosh 👎
@@brokenlife1263 Haha I know, but I mean it is the base Impreza, with the smallest engine offered by Subaru. Well lowest performing output in the states I should say. And surprisingly due to it's weight it's pretty peppy for a daily street commuter, I am not going to lie. And this is me coming from a 400HP V6 Audi S4 haha. Still miss that kind of power though don't get me wrong.
