Top stuff mate. Very informative review that will give anyone considering moving into Thermal/Night vision gear a realistic and experienced point of view. Thanks for putting this together.
Thanks mate. It's an expensive path to go down. Hopefully these video's give others an unbiased opinion regarding some points in use. So much of the information is American or European where the temps are often much lower too.
Thanks mate. I didn't want to make out thermal is crap.... It's awesome. But for most it's a huge investment and there's some very important points to consider with your expectations.
EDGE of the OUTBACK - Most people seem to like thermal. I can see me getting one at some point. It seems a combination of thermal and IR is the way to go.
Good job covering all that mate, you've got a gift in humbly explaining things in a format and terms that 100% understandably. Look forward to watching more vids, tight groups.
I have just re-watched this video as I will be buying a thermal spotter in the next couple of months. This was really useful as it has convinced me to spend the extra on the monocular with the 35 mm lens. I don’t want to have to buy twice through cheaping out with the initial purchase. I live in southern WA and it rarely gets hot overnight so I am confident thermal will work well in our conditions. Thanks heaps for doing this review Nathan.
Even hot, it'll be fine. They are quite surprising once the sun sets and the UV isn't keeping things hot. An hour after dark and the image gap is much better.
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK I borrowed a blokes Pulsar XQ28 just to confirm that thermal did what I wanted in my normal shooting conditions. I was sold inside a minute. Thermal makes searching for targets so much more efficient and effective. We scan large paddocks with the spotlight, and you waste time looking for something that isn’t there. It rarely gets over 30 degrees in the daytime where I live and is largely cool over night. So not great beach weather generally. Much nicer for pest control at night though.
Thanks mate. They really are an amazing tool. Definitely get a thermal scanner before you go a rifle setup. It's so versatile being able to covertly slip around.
Cheer's mate. They certainly do work in daylight. The only downside compared to night is you get the hot spots that the sun creates. So if it's a sunny day you will see heat off trees and rocks etc. Just not as dominant to see the animals as it is in the dark. But work it does !!!
😂 It's happened more than once 🤦♂️. Bloody warm little toasty turds. Glad you liked the video. If you've any questions I'm happy to answer what I can.
@@Seek.YouWillFind I could have actually purchased a used HQ38F. Now I've never used one but I'm very happy with the XEYE images. I definitely wanted 35mm or larger in the objective. The Night Tech HD-50 I considered but the eyepiece screen resolution/size is smaller like my Axion was. I didn't want another 320 core 12um Axion (in the XM30S). PARD have some great options if you don't need recording. The SA35 at $3200 AUD is a great price point for a scanner but you can run it as a scope too. The Night Tech MS42 (rebranded XEYE SCL35) is also a worthy option. But again didn't have inbuilt recording.
Glad you enjoy the video's. $3k is a tough one. I'd recommend trying to get into a 640 resolution device if you can. $3k will nearly get you there. Happy to chat more over on Patreon if that's of interest. I get way to many enquiries now to assist with everyone unfortunately. Hope you understand 👍 www.patreon.com/user?u=37396112
Gday mate, I'm in North East Vic Australia. I have ordered a pulsar axion key for the purpose of detecting sambar deer at distances within 100-200 meters in gullies and farm fringe. I was really excited to get the pulsar, but having just watched this video I'm having second thoughts as to whether this xeye unit may be better?. I'm not fussed about recording or video, more early detection when stalking on foot. What are your thoughts, the main reason I chose the axion was the low base magnification which I figured would give me a better field of view in close ranges
The Axion will be great for your use. Your looking for large heat sources in something as large as a Sambar. The small form factor of the Axion is excellent too.
Hey mate, thanks for the great video and thermal info! Saw that you mentioned in a reply that you were disappointed with the viewfinder size of both the Axion Key and the Night-Tech monocular. I’ve had a look through the night-tech mini sights and HD’s and thought the viewfinder screen size was disappointingly small too! Is the viewfinder screen size bigger on this XEYE? Also have you had a peep through a PARD SA25 or SA35 and know if their screens are any bigger than the night-tech’s? Cheers mate!
Hi Michael. I think the NT Mini-Sight, PARD and this XEYE are all a similar sized screen. I believe the Night Tech HD series have a smaller screen, I was out on Sunday night with a mate who owns a HD-25. His definitely seemed a smaller view than the XEYE when I had a few quick looks.
EDGE of the OUTBACK thanks mate, thanks good to know. Have heard a few good things about the PARDs but nowhere local to try them or the Xeyes out- thanks again for the great video and honesty about shite zoom!
Just wondering, is that a pic/weaver-rail mount on the bottom? Does it show range to the laser mark? Could it be used, with the cross-hair of the laser pointer, as a defacto thermal rifle scope at shorter ranges? Awesome review, mate. Thanks from Andrew in Tassie.
Would highly recommend chatting with the guys at Hunting Essentials. There's other sellers but I found these guys really fantastic for information and they actually use the kit.
It has a stadiametric rangefinder, I think it's a rabbit, boar and deer. I guess it would work but I haven't the need to have use it. I just throw a laser dot on the area with the thermal. And use my Leica rangefinder aimed at the dot.
Have a look at the Night Tech offerings too. They will have similar specs to the E3+. Keep in mind that the smaller lens does reduce the range. And the screen resolution is lower on the E3+ and the Night Tech's. That might not be an issue at all for you, within a budget etc.
great review. I use a cheap thermal for close up stuff at the moment, then ir to shoot. torch and ir scope for open paddocks as my thermal is no where near the quality of this unit and is limited to about 150M for foxes .
@@EDGEoftheOUTBACK just an x-sight2. it does the job, though really impressed by the pard stuff. especially the 008lrf. great simple compact unit with lrf and cheap. my issue with x-sight is the lag in picture makes it hard to do a moving shot. animal may move also and you'll miss. has happened to me over the years.
You know how you said that you can only see what your eye can see? Can you see and animal through smoke or fog or is that bullshit predator stuff again?

That is an excellent and informative review. I think the fact you really make the limitations of thermal clear is very helpful.

@@bruiser6479 I'll eventually run a thermal scope. The main issue is cost. But I do like the clarity of HD Night Vision with a quality IR light.

Glad it helped
Damn this channel is addictive!
You do a good and thorough review. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome Video. Thanks for sharing mate.
Great video and advice. Keep them coming
Thanks John. If it helps one person great. Thats the goal.
Zooms crap. Love your honesty
LOL thanks mate, yep, it's uber pixilated. But the overall image and detection is fantastic.
Another honest review thanks! Maybe a dumb question, but do thermals work in the daylight? (i.e. locating quarry in thick bush during the day?).

Hi! Good video. I also have the same thermal. What is the size of the Buttler creek lenscover ?
Hi, It is a Butler Creek 28-29 Multiflex cover.

If your in Vic Spectra Tactical do demo nights with the PARD gear.
EDGE of the OUTBACK yeah in Ballarat actually, they easy to get onto?
Just message the business FB page inbox. They are pretty responsive normally. I know they have been under the pump lately with orders etc.

Nah its just an Arca Swiss tripod plate. You couldn't jerry rig a shooting arrangement off that. Glad you liked the video 👌
Great review mate. I could definitely use this with my kit. Where is the best place to get one in Aus mate
Would highly recommend chatting with the guys at Hunting Essentials. There's other sellers but I found these guys really fantastic for information and they actually use the kit.
Shame that you actually had to put a disclaimer on the video that you weren't hunting wombats 🙄 great review mate 👍
Yes but no disclaimer on the Koala footage😪
Hi mate great video!!
Where did you get the lens protector from
Just my local GS. Glad you liked the video.
EDGE of the OUTBACK keep the videos coming mate I’ve just ordered an E3max can’t wait to try it out.
Awesome. I'm still really happy with the XEYE E3Max. Enjoy 👌
you filmed this, this morning ... 11/4/20 as it was blowing a gale earlier today...
This arvo actually. It's only just backed off now.
great hunting videos love to see more this winter ,''digital zoom its shit'' well said :)
Thanks buddy. Yeah with the temperature drop in the last few days I'm dead keen to mix it up with the thermal more BIG TIME !!!
Now that we are in the heart of winter, how have you found it in the cooler weather?
It's bloody wicked in the cool weather 😈. Almost not fair but chasing foxes and dogs I'll take it.
Nice Tee Shirt Bro

Cheers

Same as a XD50 mate 👌

You can see through that much more than a light. But it's not fantastic, I am in the fog a lot lately.
Is it about 4 k
They are now with the dollar and covid 19 gig 😩. Was less when I purchased it.
