Marvin is also a very cool colorless cedh commander! Its just an artifact creature combo deck but it can get incredibly layered and combos with a ham sandwich. You also get to utilize fun interactions with turning noncreature artifacts into creatures with Karn, and a spicy old card Toymaker
Marvin would be a very strong card in the 99 of The Jolly Balloon Man, but he's also very new and thus undiscovered, so maybe in the future he gets more play
It's not quite up to cEDH level yet, but I've been running Marvin with Ioreth in my Red Death deck where it makes a nice ABC wincon to draw out anybody with a creature. I'm trying to use Scroll of Fate to put them into play face down alongside a bunch of random useful morphs and the occasional face down land to make it harder to answer while it's still summoning sick.
Song of Totentanz is a solid haste enabler that makes crazy bodies for enduring Vitality or earthcraft also doubles as a win con with ♾️ mana be super cool to see ya do an episode o that
My buddy runs this in his Urza, Lord High Artificer and it has so much potential. Especially if he makes basalt monolith a creature (with stuff like Karn, Great Creator).
It’s a little odd, but I’ve heard of some Kinnan pilots running Marvin, Horseshoe Crab, and any dork as a combo to get infinite mana, and it double functions as another Kinnan dork. The combo also works with Enduring Vitality + Horseshoe Crab, which is flippable off of Kinnan.
Puresight Merrow + any 5c mana dork + Marvin. Top deck a Thoracle, exile your library FTW. If the mana dork taps for 2+ mana (such as Bloom Tender) you also get infinite mana. Marvin is pretty good in my Garth One-Eye deck too, as it comes down early as a mana dork and functions as a 2nd, hasty Garth when I cast Garth.
Although it's janky, Marvin + Blinking Spirit makes Marvin almost unkillable, and it can be a way to cheaply activate any triggers that care about a non-token or artifact or legendary creature coming into play, or to reset the counter on any "once per turn" activations.
The floor argument seems like it has a huge lack of commitment there, I reckon. No more than 10?! You only have to drop a mana dork the following turn for it to then be relatively useful.
Interesting point; but even dropping a mana dork to make it relatively useful is contingent on having the dork. So I think the point of most decks only running 10 activated abilities TOPS is still valid.
Tayam pilot here, a really fun interaction with Marvin is that he can put counters on himself with wall of roots or devoted druid's ability to help get activations.
Yeah I realized in post that we said haste a lot when really we were just referencing Marvin not having summoning sickness if you cast him early and then give him an ability later. “Haste”

Agreed! It may be a whole year before the card feels like it’s been explored.

I can't imagine doing this pod and not just pausing to clarify the rules/layers interactions.
Something for us to consider. Maybe adding a small sidebar to read any errata/rulings after reading the card. Thanks for the rec!

Haven’t seen this before.. seems cool :)
Great pod
Ayyoooo

Whoaaa that’s a cool interaction! Marvin having the ability to tap for big mana or untap itself for mana is super cool!

I’ve seen the enduring vitality + crab stuff but I didn’t think of the dork+crab+marvin tech! That’s neat!

13:25 the creature you are thinking of is Wirewood Symbiote
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the comment!!

INTERESTING….. blinking spirit + bloom tender for 2+ is JANK infinite mana
I've gotten the regular and showcase versions of the card, but I haven't been able to find anything to do with them.
Tayam / Yisan / Sisay is calling your name!

I run it in my Merieke Ri Berit deck.

Our Reddit post talked about how much of a heater it is in Tayam, I’m glad another good deck is benefiting from it!!
Tayam gives out vigilance, not haste

@@ThatsAGoodCard it's all good bro
Is Bolas Citadel a good card?
I’ve seen it win a lot of games, that’s for sure!
Run Marvin in my Trazyn deck.
Seems very fitting with the whole “has all abilities” trope!
