Here is a point I didn't hear you bring up. If you are playing a deck that isn't blue, cards like this become much more favorable since it often has the same effect as a counterspell. We know everyone wants to cheat out/search out/blink creatures and often they are doing that as part of a win condition. This card counters that. It's effectively a situational sustaining counterspell that doesn't require you to play blue. One more Point I wish you would have thought to talk about is how this card can have insane upside when used to wipe out your opponent's creatures when used alongside cards like Eldrazi Displacer, Disorder In The Court, Sudden Disappearance, Flicker, Parallax Wave, Phelia Exuberant Shepherd, Identity Thief, Voidwalk, Mistmeadow Witch, Mistmeadow Vanisher, Hallowed Respite, Getaway Glamor, Flicker of Fate, or Planar Incision. You should always talk about the best case scenario for a card as well, sometimes just for fun--so what you want to do is while having Containment Priest, Valley Floodcaller, March of the Machines, and Living Plane in play, tap 10 mana into your pool during your opponent's end step just before your turn, then cast Dimensional Breach and in response, cast Teferi's protection. That should do it.

I will say that anecdotally I do very well with Stax once I've tuned a list for the meta. For example, I have recently tuned Myrel for the new meta and have won my first 2 of 3 games.
Stax is 100% best done when played to not make the whole table mad. I have been an advocate that Rule of Law is bad BECAUSE it makes everyone mad at you and you often become threat no. 1 OR one person is so happy you handed the game to them.
Containment priest is fantastic. I play her in my Modern sideboard and I love the look on the face of a Through the breach player when she resolves. Priceless!
Just note: Mons calculations come from tEDH. 80min timer which starts BEFORE mulls. In Swiss, you really have 5 turns to win the game. 1. Stax requires talking/coaching. 2. Stax requires strong meta knowledge. If you are not good. Great at these things, those stax slots are better tempo then counter magic. So slowing the game down but SPEEDING the game actions is the hidden barrier to stax. So reaching for the asymmetric stax is really what mons is suggesting. OppAgent Drannith BlindObidence VewBauble
Nice video! I'd be interested in seeing a future video on Thada Adel, Acquisitor, currently seeing play in a few Derevi, Kinnan, and Niv Mizzet decks and while it might be worse after the ban there are still plenty of nice artifacts to steal or just remove access to
I would like a that's a good card on lethal scheme. I play orzhov cedh and most combos in orzhov are gv based so it grants me discars outlet, card selection, pumps my fragile creatures, cost 0 most of the time and it's flexible removal at it's worst
I play in Japan, and Derevi decks are plentiful. I slotted this into my Malcolm Tymna Deck to stave off their derevi abuse. It also staves off green decks playing pod, GSZ, Finale, etc; and reanimator decks. its a wonderful card that forces opponents to play fairly or else they lag behind.
Reduce to dreams -blue aura enchantment -2uu enchanted creature gets "Whenever this creature becomes tapped, put a stun counter on it" Eh I was pretty far off too.
Ok, I'm only 10 minutes in, so I haven't gotten to the pushback yet, but this card is almost always worse than it feels like it should be. I like Containment Priest. It floats in the orbit of cards I consider in Tymna decks. But once Winota left the format, Priest got waaaaay worse. I feel like anyone saying it's great against Kinnan has not played against Kinnan with Priest all that much. Priest turns off Kinnan's activations, which is good, and it can do so while forcing the Kinnan player to spend the 7, but that's only good if you didn't want to spend that 2 mana another way. Because otherwise you're left holding it up, hoping for a gotcha moment, and even then, Kinnan decks can afford to pee away 7 mana. Furthermore, Kinnan will just hardcast a Void Winnower, or a Con Sphinx, or a Nezahal, or a Thorn Mammoth, or a Hullbreaker Horror. It isn't like resolving an Opposition Agent vs Magda, where you just have to protect it and they are shut out of the game. Likewise, Priest against Sisay just means they pivot to Planeswalker lines. Priest against Neoform is the same as a two mana counterspell, which is to say "not good". Meanwhile, it means that you have your own internal tension with your own Neoforms, Chords, Reanimates, Displacer Kittens, etc.
alright I'm playin the game now ~ Reduce to Dreams: 2UU, Sorcery, Place target creature an opponent controls on the bottom of their library. Artwork: a sleeping monster (perhaps phyrexian) with half of it turning into swirling dust and fading away. Flavor Text: "To catch one sleeping is every mage's dream." Edit: WOW I'm actually kinda cracked at this game ?? Even my art description was the right idea. However upon further review my flavor text is kinda sus 😳
Reduce to Dreams: 2UW Instant, rare from coldsnap, art is a woman on a blue background waving her hands and doing magic with white ripples, exiles a creature until EoT and draws cards equal to power, when it comes back discard cards equal to toughness? I think I played this card and it was pretty mid, locking in guess. -edit Very wrong but there was a card from coldsnap that did this. I am sure ive seen the actual card in my lifetime but it was straight jedi mind tricked away.
Drannith is not that great, since it is a "not loose" card. Counterspells are similar: Mindbreak Trap is just soso, since it does not protect your win. Interaction is overrated in cEDH, no matter if it is stax or a counterspells. Containment Priest is just good enough, when you can draw cards with Tymna.

Nice!! Stax requires a great understanding of the meta.

You have to be aware of when it is right to play Rule of Law. It’s not always correct to just play it ASAP!
Containment priest is fantastic. I play her in my Modern sideboard and I love the look on the face of a Through the breach player when she resolves. Priceless!
This is terrifying for Kinnan
I play an anti-emergy deck that runs containment priest and hushbringer as well as solemnity.

Great assessment! I will note to be careful because Vexing Bauble is NOT asymmetric!!! It can counter your own stuff! (Don’t ask me how I know that 😂)
this card is awesome in some scenarios, not amazing but in the right places has super strong applications
You can definitely sit down in a pod where it won’t help you win… but in this meta it’d be pretty rare!

Recently added it too to my abzan stax list

Closer than Do I’d say!
Surely this 5 cost mass artifact bounce is what standard needs to deal with affinity. 😅
You’ll reduce their chances of winning to dreams… ba dum tsss

I think you should do an episode on dowsing dagger its a great piece of mana acceleration for decks with low cost commanders
Hmmmmmmm that’s a spicy one, I think you’re the second person to recommend this.. added to the list!
I couldnt play stax casually and entered cedh to have a space where it is more acceptable just to find out that its a dead archetype 😢
It can still be played!! Some popular commanders like Magda and Sisay play pseudo Staxy! I’d recommend checking those out!

You're thinking "Vanish Into Memory"! Pretty good for a variety of casual applications!
This card is also v good against tayam
@@eeeck763 pretty much kryptonite unless they have actual removal spells. I play Tayam and it pretty feels like playing against Iona.

I prefer this to Drannith ngl.
Hot take!!!!!
