Hey there, jumpless speedrun guy here! Thanks for showing a bit of my run! I actually got into speedrunning by doing the A Button Challenge on Sunshine, that is, removing not only all kinds of jumps, but everything that takes an A press! We made a small team and shaved off A presses I didn’t thought would ever be saved, like flipping the grate under the green Electro-Koopa in Pinna 5, or jumping into the save block to start a new file! At the moment, Super Mario Sunshine can be beaten in 115 A presses, which includes 1 to start a file, 42 to select each episode, 44 to save after each Shine, and 28 inside secrets (Pinna 6 and Noki 6 being the worst offenders by far).
As for the humanly doable part of the challenge, there are some pretty easy tricks that can make certain strats way less painstaking, or even save jumps. First off, you didn’t take full advantage of ground pounds; in secrets like Bianco 3, you can simply run under the Shine, dive as soon as you pass the peak of the little pyramid, and immediately ground pound into the Shine without using the corners of the platform. Ground pounds are also very useful to end a waterslide or series of dives, instead of having to slow down to a stop. That doesn’t make waterslides as versatile as in normal gameplay, but it’s a nice improvement. Secondly, when you can’t get past something jumpless, you should think about how to make the most of that required jump. On Bianco 3 again, jumping up the 3 moving platforms one by one wasn’t optimal, as you could use 1 spinjump to get up 2 platforms. And finally, the best path is not always straightforward; in Gelato 5, instead of climbing up a tree and a mirror, you could just waterslide across the beach to where the hill meets the ground, and run/spam-dive up that hill to easily beat Piantissimo. Hope this helps!

No gelato skip? I’d think that’s better than the eleven jumps on gelato one.
The gelato skip requires at least 1 jump, so just for the Secret shine, it brings it down to 107.
Plus Shine 5 of Pinna Park can be done with one jump, bringing it down to 106. Eleven jumps shaved off.
I believe the Rocket Nozzle in Bianco Hills is on top of the wooden platforms near the first secret. That would shave off 3 or 4 jumps, bringing it down to 103-102.
The same Rocket Nozzle would remove all 5 jumps of Petey Piranha 2 in Bianco Hills, having 97-98 jumps.
We can also shave off one jump in Bianco Hills Shine 6 with another one possibly removed. 95-97 jumps.
The second jump of Bianco Hills Shine 3 can be removed by spin jumping to the platform he landed on. 94-96 jumps
We just shaved off 22 jumps and more might be removable.

@@TheBanishedWind to my understanding, TH-cam automatically demonetizes videos if that word is detected. The exact reason I'm not absolutely sure of, but likely because advertisers don't want to be associated with such controversial subjects.

For Red Coins on the Water in Ricco Harbor, I think you might be able to skip the Shine Jump. There's a glitch where you can run into the Pianta in a floatie to get off of your Blooper, and from there you could just hover ground pound to the Shine.
For Petey Piranha Strikes Back, I'm pretty sure there's a Pianta running below who can chuck you up near where Petey is, saving some jumps.

Yeah! The Piantas of Delfino Plaza are so brain dead that they not only can’t tell the difference between Mario and Shadow Mario, but they can’t even hold a proper court. What they did is illegal and Peach, as princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, (which likely owns Isle Delfino) should punish them for false arrest and judgement without trial. Mario would have helped them regardless!
Also, spraying the Piantas still gives me laughs to this day! Especially the sitting ones since they always react! Also, you know those two Piantas in the plaza that argue constantly until after the flood? If you stand in just the right spot, you can get them both mad at you for spraying at the same time.

Something I figured out in my own jumpless attempts a while ago is that entering first person view and moving the camera lets you fall off of things you hold on to, such as the bars in Rico Harbor, making The Caged Shine Sprite possible jumpless!

I love how these challenges have failed so much that it’s not “beat super Mario sunshine it’s no jump” it’s “how little jumps to beat super Mario sunshine”
It's pretty obvious, beacuse most mario games arent beatable without jumping. So of course it isn't possible in this challenge.
There was a guy who beat Mario Sunshine and only used 27 jumps, all in secret levels, when fludd was avaliable, he didn't jump once. The channel is called Infinite Bits, the video was actually made about a month before this one.
I appreciate all the effort you put into this video. It mustve been frustrating but satisfying as heck when you finally finish it.
You could actually save the 1 jump for getting to Sirena. You can go in the underground at the tip of Delfino in front of the statue with yoshi and then spin and then hover to make it. You can also use the sewers around the town hall.
You know, there’s a glitch that lets you get Shine 8 in Gelato Beach, which would let you skip to Shine 7, and I bet it could be down with far less then 11 jumps, if done the first try. That would cut down the counter a bit.

Normally, I ain’t a stickler for pronunciations. You could say “Meh”rio over “Mah”rio and “Mar”io, and I wouldn’t bat an eye! But I have never heard *one* let’s player or streamer say Del-“fine”-o until now. Every speaking character in the game refers to it as Del-“fi”-no, so why exactly would you pronounce it otherwise?

16:56 You can do this shine with 1 less jump. Instead of going to the corner, go to the one on the ground that isn't where the pond is. At a specific angle you can be facing the wall where you fight the mole for shine 1, and turn right to start running into the other wall. You'll be in a running state and when you press B to drop the spring, you will clip through the wall. You can do the hover for 1 second and dive strategy on this one as well.

6:44 it looked like you could have probably fallen off and used the hover nozzle to grab the bottom of the cage, but the timing would have to be just right

14:15 there may be an alternative route if you're considering exploits. The ferris wheel does not have collision when spinning fast so you can get straight to the top skipping the cage maze portion entirely and possibly saving those two jumps

Great video! I think you can get rid of one jump, though. In Pianta 5 you can just walk off the ledge on the mushroom in a spot where the tree{s collision box is not complete (There is a texture that looks like an M on the tree, aim for the middle). If you do it at just the risght speed, Mario will grab ledge and you can press B to start sliding, and then with precise timing start hovering, turn around mid-air, and dive into the loading zone. Several things can go wrong. When approaching the ledge don{t go too fast or you{ll just run off the ledge, and don{t go too slow, because you{ll hit other parts of the tree's collision box and slide off the mushroom. If you hover too early, you'll get your head stuck on the bottom of the collision box and kill all your velocity, but if you wait slightly too long, you{ll clip back outside the mushroom and fall to the abyss.
If you ever revisit this, I'd suggest allowing jump-dives. It may seem like a cheap way out with essentially giving you two to three different "jump" heights to utilize (normal, backflip, spin jump), but they are potentially more challenging to use because Mario has to travel a specific distance at a relatively fast speed when performing them. It would make the secret missions more doable, but also require more precision.

I think you could potentially save a jump going into sirena beach if you use one of the sewers to launch yourself up to the pipe, eliminating the need for that second spin jump
You can actually get yoshi to the pipe with no jumps. When shadow Mario is carrying the egg he runs by the pipe. If he drops the egg by the pipe that’s no jumps
Haven't seen or touched Sunshine in awhile, so this was fun. I guess it's kind of a cursed game now, but the demonetization is ridiculous. It's a level name. C'mon TH-cam, look at context.

This has been my favorite game forever, it literally came out before I was born and I have been playing it since I could hold a controller, its so awesome to see that there is still such an interest let alone at all in it. Also this is by far one of my favorite channels to watch, such amazing content. I will say though: (Delfino) Dell-fee-noh, not Dell-fine-oh hahaha. (well to be honest there really isn't a necessarily correct way to say it, but I will defend my pronunciation for as long as I live!!)
PS: also can't you spin-dive? I haven't played in a while and I know it is a move, although I don't know if it requires a jump. (also asloooo I had an egg todayyyyy)

You know, for Pinna 5, theres a glitch where you can spinjump through the ferris wheel. While this does take one jump, it would save one in total since it takes you right to the electrokoopa.

I'm convinced you can do Caged Shine Sprite jumpless. The bottom of the cage can be grabbed and there's a flippable grate you can use to get inside. Usually it takes a well timed hover from a spin jump off one of the cranes but I think hypothetically if you walked off of the beam and then hovered at the right time on the way down and maneuvering under the cage you can get the shine no problem

You can save another jump in Sirena 3 by clipping into the mats in the pool room instead of the pool itself (this does not require a jump) walking through the wall, and hovering to prevent yourself from falling.

22:05 I know a trick, that could probably save a few jumps:
You have to walk to the very left at the edge of the level (only few lava tiles) and walk around there carefully. Next You have to walk up the palm tree and dive down from one of its branches to land at the area of the mushroom, that should take only 2 jumps
There's a version of yoshi skip that doesn't need a jump, gelato skip could save more jumps by cutting out gelato beach shines 1-7, and you overworked yourself with bianco 1 (you can go straight to the windmill and just do shine 2 :P), but nice video!
Surprised that even though you were using speedrunning strats, you didn't even do Gelato skip! Gelato skip could've reduced the number of jumps drastically because you wouldn't have to do the secret shine!
This doesn't take into account blue coins, secret levels 2nd time, and 100 coins.

yeah! he didn't even complete the 8th level of every world, because to beat it you only have to get to level 7. I remember because the red coin fish level was one of my favourites of Noki Bay
i've played this game countless times and i say from experience that the side flip is the most important move of all, i really don't know if i could beat mario sunshine without it, cause you need to do it a lot

There is one way to beat Pinna Park-5 with 1 jump but the timing of your jump has to be super precise. I need to go back and remember how to do it though.

16:10 I tried that myself and it’s possible to get in the basket jumpless, you have to hover off the edge of the leaf thing at just the right moment for a slight bit of extra height and you can get on, it’s finicky

In shine 5 in Pinna park, the highspeed wheel has no collision btw, you can just climb to where shine 4 spawns and hover through it. as a kid I even thought it was the intended path lol
