I have an ASUS VG248QE, full HD 1080p, 144hz trace free. For some reason when I follow the steps you provided when I change the refresh rate from 60hz to 120hz my screen goes black with a message saying “out of range” then automatically resets to 60hz. I’m also using an hdmi 2.1 cable with the Xbox series X. I’ve checked multiple forums and have yet to find a solution, please let me know if there’s anything I can do to resolve this issue!
Yes it can but only on a device that has hdmi 2.1 which let's you do 120hz at 4k. But right now you can only uy tvs that have 2.1. A few monitors will be coming out I think like beginning of next year but they will be pricey. So your only choice for hdmi 2.1 to allow 120hz at 4k is a tv which is still pricey. I suggest to go with a 1080p 120hz 144hz monitor or a 1440p at 120hz or 144hz. You can find good prices on them rn.
I spent ages looking for and bought in advance a monitor that supported 1440p 144hz over hdmi 2.0 and to find out that it won’t actually work on the next Xbox 1440p 144hz at the same time, and on top of that you have to sacrifice VRR and HDR too is gutting. I have a Dell S2719dgf btw. It’s also very frustrating that the issue could be fixed by a Microsoft firmware update but this is probably unlikely to happen. Incredibly frustrating as I will likely have to sell and buy another, losing a lot of money for an issue that many of us should not be placed in and is not very easy for the casual consumer to understand because it isn’t well publicised.

Nearly a year later, the same issue exists and microsoft seem to be content ignoring the issue ather than just patching it which in theory should be very simple for them to do...
Dell S2719DGF, doesn't support 1440p120 on xbox. 1080p120 works fine and vrr works but without 120 which makes it useless. I believe Microsoft can fix this with a patch, as all of that works on pc.

I had bought a LG 27gn850 for my series X. And in order for me to get 1440p 120hz I had to disable Gsync on the monitor. VRR was also unavailable. What was the point of having a nice monitor with lots of futures like HDR, 144hz, 1ms and Gsync if I was not able to use all that. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very good monitor but it wasn’t it for me. It was $399 at Best Buy. So one week later I went back to Best Buy and found the OMEN 27i As soon as I plugged the monitor to my Xbox it was set at 1440p 120Hz with out having to turn off Gsync on monitor. One of the best parts was VRR is now available with this monitor. Monitor has a lot of good features. 2K 165HZ 1MS with Gsync. Only thing is it does not have HDR. But don’t miss it. Price it’s a more expensive. $499 plus taxes. So far love the monitor
I feel you strangely enough I just got a Lenovo monitor that has the same panel as the gn850 but allows 165hz, G-Sync and 10bit colour all at the same time which the GN cant do and it cost less.... And also works flawlessly with the Xbox....

I know is a long video everyone, but this man actually helped me, thanks for that
Every time I change it to 120hz my screen goes black and then goes back to 60hz.
Bro please help me did you get to the bottom of this
I’ve been playing 120 on any game (Fifa fornite cod etc) turn it on today and the same problem...
Do all modern day 4K uhd TVs support 1080p 120hz? As I’m looking at getting a LG UN7000 thanks I hope you respond it would be much appreciated. Thankyou
Omg thanks man this saved my I have roughly around the same monitor I have a 240hz monitor with 4K but this was the problem I shit myself but you fixed it thanks man
Note: you must have a tv that can go to 120hz so save up and buy a tv and a good hdmi like ocean 48 HDMI 8k 10k resolution and can but put to 4k optional depending on your tv.

Thanks. We managed to get 120hz. The bigger wonder is why so many games are limited to max 60hz.

@@adandewaal8341 no problem at all lol
I think you've maybe misunderstood. That reddit thread, which I've been active in, is about an issue with 2k 120Hz monitors not being able to run at 1440p/120Hz... 1080p/120Hz isn't an issue for 90% of the people complaining in that thread.
How have I misunderstood it I've said that 1440p 120hz is having lots of issues at the moment check this thread out to see people's problems with it, find compatible monitors etc.
Can 120 FPS run on a 1080p 144hz monitor?
Hey, i have the same problem with an Omen 25 display... it’s a 1080p 144hz monitor, but on the series x it runs at 60hz. I followed the istruction of this video and i set it in 1080p 120hz... but i can’t see the difference. I was playing with Destiny 2 (which as not recieved the upgrade) but i saw a biiiiig drop of framerates. If i use the 60hz there are not frame drops
Every time I like change it it will just make my screen go black when it backs it is always 60hz and not 120hz plz help
Are you on the s or x
hi can this work on the ps5 too?
ps5 doesn’t support 1440p
And no vrr
When the monitor is set to 120Hz, there is no VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), and when VRR is enabled, the refresh rate is limited to 60Hz
Lol xbox one x have that too wasted time
Did you make the one x hit 120hz? Pls reply 🙏
@@celh2656 120hz are not 120fps. You can play a game at 60fps with 120hz. But if you want to see 120fps you need a 120hz monitor.
Yes 120hz monitor or a 4k 120hz tv with hdmi 2.1.
@@Marcelxy so a 1080p 144hz is not good for a Xbox series x? Plz bro help me out I really don’t know much of this

Thank you chief, I was about to return my monitor because it was made for a pc and wouldn’t let me change the refresh rate.
Had no idea you could manually override the display settings
For xbox
This was really helpful. I have hdmi 1.4 monitor Asus and xbox series s. Basically had to go to video fidelity overscan then switch to hdmi go back to display setting and should be able to choose refresh rate
Hey is it working on ur 144hz 1.4 hdmi monitor? Would u mind to explain how it's work in more detail?

Thanks bro, first video that was clear and WORKED!!!
I ordered a LG 144hz monitor (24GL600F) I have a Series S,
Will let you know how it works with it when I arrives end of the week.
Thanks all we can do is keep testing monitors and share our results 😁
The 24GL600 will auto detect to 1080p @120hz on Xbox. I used to have that panel and it was quite nice. Only reason I got rid of it was that I wanted a 27" monitor instead
@@thefullsetup I got a “LG UltraGear 24GN53A” identical monitor it works great with the “Xbox Series S” 120hz looks great it’s only 1080p but all good very happy.
Okay so I have a lot of questions, first off, does the HDMI that comes with the Xbox series s support 120hz second can I just plug in my Xbox series s into the monitor and get 120hz with the HDMI cord that came with my Xbox and automatically get 120fps sense my monitor is 144hz or do I need a different HDMI cord or do I need a cord that has the hdmi and display port plugin?
Did you figure it out? Having same problem
1 thing many of these tech people on TH-cam fail to mention is to come which ports on your monitor display what resolution and hz…. Check your user manual!!!! Many monitors with 1440p 144hz are supported through the display port. Don’t force your Xbox to do something it should be doing…. Use the proper ports!
When I press 120 hz it just goes black and says out of range
Me too
I think it's my tv because it's old
Thank you so much!!!!!!! I bought a new tv for my series s and I was worried that i couldnt play on 120hz. You just earnt yourself a subscribe and a like
Hi, i have a question... i have an acer 144hz gaming monitor its 1920x 1080p 1ms and it has 2 Hdmi 1 port so 2 HDMI 2.0 ports and i will but a next gen console in some time. so i wanted to ask will i get 120 fps on xbox series s?
Nearly a year later, the same issue exists and microsoft seem to be content ignoring the issue ather than just patching it which in theory should be very simple for them to do...
Dell S2719DGF, doesn't support 1440p120 on xbox. 1080p120 works fine and vrr works but without 120 which makes it useless. I believe Microsoft can fix this with a patch, as all of that works on pc.
That blows because that’s the reason I bought the dell s2721dgf
@@f-3060 yeah i agree i have the same problem
Interesting, I've heard otherwise about that monitor but I can't vouch for it myself. But this one works 100%

2k 120, freesync premium pro, vrr. Also has a 4k UHD option in the xbox settings that caught me by surprise. Curved too.
I’ve got 120 from now on.. i have being playing mw3 on 60 hz whole weak damn , thank you so much!

Ya man, thanks. I was close to ordering all kinds of dvi hdmi adapters to trouble shoot but this worked
Best option AOC 1080p 27” 144hz, u can play 120hz constant and freesync
U mean the g2590px/fx?
Great video mate! Jus subscribed to your Channel. Could u help me out with a name and site where u got that monitor riser from? Looking for something with 2 drawers but a gap in the middle for my Mac mini. Thank you and keep up the great content!
how do you get the 1140 with 120hz
So could I get the same results from the msi optix g272 144hz on my series s? You may have answered this question already
I've got a PG278Q, selling it to my brother who's got a xbox series s. I'm looking for a cable that'll support the 1440p at 120 or 144hz
So one week later I went back to Best Buy and found the OMEN 27i
As soon as I plugged the monitor to my Xbox it was set at 1440p 120Hz with out having to turn off Gsync on monitor.
Which monitor should I buy. I have a 75hz msi monitor right now. I want a 120hz that under 210$ made for series x/s.
My monitors book says 1440p 120hz. But it always drops it to 1080p 120 or 1440p 60hz. It says with hdmi 2.0 it will do 1440p 120
