    It depends what brand of monitor you are using. I have a ASUS VGAQL1A 1440p 144hz monitor and I'm able to run my XSX on 1440p @ 120fps settings relativity easy. What I have learned is that you need to uncheck the 4K box in your display settings and check VRR. While you use 120fps you cannot use HDR even if your monitor supports it because Xbox locks HDR behind the 4k setting.

    • @Abezilla
      @Abezilla 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theSQUARE198 no. You can run 1440p @ 120fps on hdmi 2.0, however 2.1 would be better if you're willing to spend the money. During the 5 months since this post, while I game my screen goes totally blank for a few seconds then returns to normal. This rarely happens and it is thankfully not constant. My guess is that the video output is being pushed to its limit on hdmi 2.0

    I made it work by doin pretty much what was said in this video! Im running using a Samsun Odyssey G7 27’’ monitor. When using the hdmi port the menu on the monitor lets me turn freesync on/off. I started with turning it on > sett overrides to automatic > uncheck «allow 4K» > check VRR ON > set video fidelity to 8bits (none of the higher ones worked). After doing this i could set 1440p resolution with 120hz WITHOUT getting the message saying that its not supported and will change to the highest thing supported:)

    If you have adaptive sync on your monitor enable it. Auto select (recommend) input on console. Choose 1440p and it will change to 120hz. On xbox series enable allow vaiable refresh rates and allow ycc 4:2:2. Choose what ever colour scheme you want only on monitor. You should be good to go and enjoy 1440p at 120hz on next gen consoles 👍

    This did not work with my monitor, an older Viotek GN27D. Going through all of the video settings on both the console and the monitor, I can still only get either 1080p120 or 1440p60 and not the full 1440p120 that the monitor is capable of. Also, while it is a Freesync monitor, the console doesn't start with VRR even available as an option until I either disable and re-enable Freesync on the monitor or change the override settings off of auto-detect and back on.

      I understand that the Xbox can only run 1440p at 120hz at hdmi 2.1 after more research but hdmi 2.0 is capable of 1440 at 120hz. Unfortunately Xbox can not process run 1440 at 120 with hdmi 2.0. Many people have the same problem I do. My monitor is more than capable of 120 hz on 1440. It is capable of 1440 at 120 hz on hdmi 2.0 and 1440 at 144hz on the display port 1.2. This just seems to be an xbox problem and hopefully there’s a patch in the next update that fixes this and makes the xbox more compatible with hdmi 2.0 monitors.

    Yeah I’m pretty sure it’s all on brand at this point for me. My monitor puts out 1440p and up to 144hz. I can only do 1080 at 120 not 1440 at 120. So I’m assuming I can’t have both so I’ll just treat it like performance vs quality

    I've got a 1440p 165hz monitor that works fine on my PC but it keeps doing the thing where it says the resolution is too high for 120hz even though it clearly isn't. Lowering the color depth to 8 bits didn't seem to do anything. :/
    It lets me do 1440p 60hz with VRR and HDR though, so idk.

Luckily my monitor does display some extra information and it is accurate when comparing to the in game fps counter in some of the games I play.
