British Bulldog has a special place in my heart because I used to stay up into the early hours with my young son watching him wrestle. I queued with my son for over 3 hours in Manchester to get his autograph and what a down to earth guy he was. Sadly my son passed suddenly 8 years ago and had a large collection of the wrestlers in his collection. Poor Bulldog. Thanks Paul xxx

I wasn't a wrestling fan but I'd heard of the British bulldog, and saw him on tv . Such a shame he was only 39 ! The heart is also a big muscle, so steroid use is obviously going to affect that muscle in some way or another eventually. I feel for his dad around that time, losing his daughter in 98, his wife in 99 , then his son 3 years later !
    RIP British Bulldog .

I remember seeing the British Bulldog at a wrestling match as a kid back in the 80's when I was on holiday with my family in Eastbourne. This was before he went to America and made it really big; I still have some pics somewhere. Big Daddy was also on the bill that night for those of you of a certain age that might remember him too.

I still watch the Hart Foundation on you tube with Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Brian Pillman Jim the anvil Neidhart and the British Bulldog, OMG, Davey Boy was super strong, So sad that he got hooked on drugs. Bret Hart is the only surviving member. Fantastic wrestling back in 1980's to late 1990s, thanks Paul, I look forward to this x

So much happened after SunmerSlam. He dropped the IC title to future star Shawn Michaels.
He joined WCW teaming with Sting and feuding with Vader and Sid Vicious and staring in two horrendous low budget promos (search “Bash at the Beach 93” and “Shockmaster”).
Returned to the UK wrestling for All-Star Wrestling by Feb 94 which is where I saw him. He teamed with a young kid at a local leisure centre.
Back to the WWF for SummerSlam 94 at ringside with the family in the Bret Hart v Owen Hart cage match. Starting a series of family feuds with Bret and Davey as faces and Owen and Neidhart the heels. The Allied Powers with Lex Luger based on the Anglo-US friendship was poor. Lex departed for WCW and Davey turned heel cutting off his long hair and siding with manager Jim Cornette, Yokozuna and Owen. Davey/Owen won the tag team belts and Davey went on to win the new European championship. By then he joined the Hart Foundation heel stable with Bret, Owen, Neidhart and Brian Pillman. But lost it again to Michaels at One Night Only PPV at the NEC in Birmingham. Davey reluctantly agreed to lose to Shawn’s proposal as losing would set up a better rematch with Bret who had a heated off screen rivalry with. The fans did not. Booing Shawn and throwing litter.
The Montreal Screwjob resulted in Bret, Davey and Neidhart leaving for WCW. A fateful time. Davey feel on a hidden trapdoor and got a spinal infection. He turned to morphine and pain killing drugs. A present from WCW was a FedEx firing him.
Davey rejoined WWF but as a more hardcore style wrestler losing the Union Flag attire and donning jeans. He won the Hardcore Championship before turning heel again forfeiting the belt to Al Snow. Smith again won the European championship on Oct 26 but lost to Val Venis. Winning back the Hardcore Championship in London defeating Crash Holly before losing it to him later on. His last match was on May 27 ironically in Calgary. He then retired.
Prior to his death he was training intending to resume his career and wrestled three matches with son Harry.
Davey I feel never got the billing and status he deserved. But in our eyes he was every bit the star. RIP Davey.

I remember one night only when Davey fought Shawn Michaels with the planned finish for the Bulldog to retain his European belt. He went on tele and promised his ill sister he would win. Hi, Davvy Boy Smith was a massive part of my childhood much like WWF was and WWE still is, I had the privilege of seeing Davvy Boy win the intercontinental title from Brett at SummerSlam 92 and that's was incredible and one of the best matches ever. A few years after I see Davvy live again at the docklands arena.
Much like many sadly taken from us too early Davvy hot hard like Scott halks did a few months back, Davvy took pain killers due to a back injury sustained and the roids unfortunately a big part of WWF and wrestling as big powerhouse guys was the desire unlike nowadays.
Rip and thanks for the memories.

My grandads wrestling name was Kenny Hogan, there's a few videos of him on TH-cam if you are interested. I visit Davey's grave now and again and it was me who left the belt there a while back. I started watching WWF in 98 so I didn't grow up knowing the work of Bret Hart or Davey Boy but I do remember seeing Owen and liking his work. Being in my teens and living in Kansas City my mom had actually bought us tickets to the Over the Edge ppv, but she was super sick that day and we couldn't go. I remember being super pissed at the time but thankful now that I didn't see Owen fall. I still say a little prayer for Owen every time I find myself driving past Kemper.
It's only been in recent years that I've delved into the work of Bret and Davey Boy and man, I wish I'd been a little younger and started watching sooner so I could have seen them live. They have quickly climbed the ranks into some of my favorites of all time. Rest easy Bulldog, truly one of the best to ever do it.

Thanks Paul 👍. Your channel is awesome. Davey boy Smith is my favourite wrestler of all time. When he just started wrestling he wrestled my mum's cuz at Leeds Town Hall.

Oh paul. This one touched me as like u brought back memories of when I was younger watching WWF as it was known then. Tragic loss of the British bull dog davy boy smith. And tragic the way Owen died too. Ty for this. Many respects to the family xx

Huge wrestling fan in the 80s and early 90s. Fondly remember The British Bulldog and Dynamite Kid. Great workers. Living in the United States I've only recently been able to see Davey's battle royal victory at Royal Albert Hall as I don't remember it being televised in 1992. Thanks for this video and the trip down memory lane. Cheers

I remember Davey Boy Smith wrestling back then. He was the pride of Great Britain and never forgot his roots or where he came from. I also remember Bret Hart The Undertaker (who is still with us), Hulm Hogan, Jake the Snake Roberts and there was another that used to dress up in a kilt and used to play the bag pipes as he walked out to the ring! So many memories!

Hey Paul, thank you for this one
I've been watching WWE since 1993 just after Andre the Giants death - I went back and watched classic matches - back to the 60s - I have continued watching to watch wrestling to this day - even staying up last night to watch summerslam live lol
WWE is part of my life - The Rock inadvertently helped me through my depression hence why I have the brahma bull tattoo and his signature on my arm along with logos of WWE, the undertaker, hardy Boyz etc
This video really brought back memories as wrestling was my escape from abuse from my mother
