Samsung “smart fridge” Ice maker force defrost - ridiculous

  • Here’s some info on resetting your ice maker. We have a model RF265 but I'm guessing this is the same for all models with the touch screen "smart" display. I have to quote the smart business becuase this fridge has caused us more grief with it's terrible design since the day we got it!
    BASIC PROCESS:
1- turn off the ice maker
2- remove ice compartment and put in a towel
3- put into Forced defrost mode from the Engineering Mode screen
    4- turn down the volume
    REVERSE PROCESS:
1- mop up your ice maker
    2- turn up volume
3- Cancel Test (this is samsung speak for take it out forced defrost mode)
    4- turn on ice maker
5- press and hold the blue ice-maker reset switch for 2 seconds
6- replace the ice compartment, cross your fingers, and think about your next fridge purchase
I didn't do a good job showing these steps in the correct order in the video, but you'll have enough information to go on. Sorry about the noisy kids playing minecraft in the background.

You sir deserve an award for helping us fix an issue created and ignored by Samsung. I’ve been manually defrosting this fridge for a while now and would have never found the force defrost most on my own. Thank you for your help.

THANK YOU for posting this! This fridge has been a nightmare for me - the horrible icemaker, the horrible documentation/no support, let alone they removed software that I used without asking... I will NEVER buy Samsung again - but a BIG THANK YOU for posted this as I spent SO many hours trying to find this!

Thank you so much! I couldn't for the LIFE OF ME find the force defrost button. I made the biggest mistake buying Samsung Appliances, I bought the top of the line in 2016, Ive had the repairman out for the washer and dryer twice and had to replace the $1300 washer, my dishwasher has been replaced and at this point I will do my best to keep these flashy computer junk boxes alive until I eventually have to replace them all. These "Smart" Appliances mean that they know exactly how long to last before they're no longer warrantied.

Thank you so much! I’ve heard a lot of bad things about these Samsung fridges but not until after I purchased mine. So far it hasn’t been too bad yet. Will keep the fingers crossed!

Thank you so much. Every so many months I've been having to defrost this thing manually... gingerly blowing a heat gun in and items and removing chunks from the top of the unit. I'm glad I got this fridge for free. I like the fridge, but it's pretty darn sad that in the year 2017 (model) you can't have a remotely reliable icemaker on a top of the consumer line refrigerator. I like the weather, and Pandora. That's about it. Keep food cold, and freezer works well. That's it. It should be at least 4 inches taller, IMHO. Thank you for posting! Much needed video!

Thanks for posting this. We have had constant issues with ours as well. The ice maker/ water dispenser light has been going out, and now we only get crushed ice to come out. I am hoping this reset might help with that. I don't expect it to help with the constant dripping water that leaks out. Oh, how I love this refrigerator!!!

I asked a repair guy about mine, he siad the only way to keep these from frosting up was to not buy a Samsung refrigerator.

I'm terribly sorry but we moved last year and made ABSOLUTELY SURE that the fridge stayed with the house when we sold it. I hated that fridge so much that our household has sworn off all Samsung appliances forever. Our new home has none, and never will.

On mine if you hit Load Status after the Forced defrost it does say it is heating the fridge, freezer and ice maker, so I chickened out and cancelled it.
