    I keep coming back here, so here's some detailed written directions...
    1) First try remove ice tray by gently lifting up as you pull, but don't force it if it feels really frozen solid or jammed, or you may break a plastic part.
    2) Next, to turn off IceMaker only (this does NOT disable the food Freezer area), tap "Fridge Manager" icon on Home screen and then tap "Fridge Settings" and switch the IceMaker mode to "OFF" + Proceed. Then tap the < Back icon button at the bottom of screen.
    3) Staying on Fridge Manager screen, enter "Engineer Mode" by only tapping the top-left & top-right corners of that screen (left+right+left+right...) at medium speed until you see the "Engineer Mode" banner pop up toward bottom of screen. it will then take you to the Engineer Mode screen automatically.
    4) tap "fridge function test"
    5) tap "force run"
    6) tap "force defrost" to start the IceMaker-only Defrost cycle (approx.20mins), BUT after about 10-15 mins, he recommends returning to this screen to tap "test cancel" and then tap "force defrost" again to RESTART the defrost cycle thereby keeping the heating coils the hottest presumably. repeat these steps until everything melts just enough for you carefully remove your ice tray/bucket. depending how much of a hurry you are to make ice, you can run warm water in bucket to remove the ice but I usually put it upside down in the sink overnight.
    7) To turn down volume of the repeating system alert sound, tap Home + settings + sound + system/slider to your desired volume.
    *NOTE: If alert sound seems to stop well before the end of a full 20min cycle (possibly due to another routine fridge function or compressor coming on, etc.), you may need to restart the "force defrost" cycle again.
    8) Place a long tray/plate or a towel directly under icemaker to catch melted icewater that should start dripping underneath.
    9) to time your cycle, use your phone timer app or a regular timer set for 10-15mins. you can use the timer app on the refrigerator but it will be hard to get back to the Engineer Mode screen without having to repeat all the above steps. you could also create a repeating ToDo/Calendar reminder to defrost the icemaker every month or two, if preferred.
    10) After IceMaker is visibly defrosted and melted/dry ice bucket is returned, don't forget to go to "fridge manager" and change IceMaker status back to "ON."
    NOTE 2: if the IceMaker is turned on, but does NOT begin making ice, you can try holding down the BLUE button (on the top right side of the icemaker) for 2 seconds, which will make a system sound to let you know the icemaker has been reset. Please see other comments here if these directions do not correct the problem.

      This video, your instructions, and all the comments here have completely helped me solve my problems. Sure as sh*t, Samsung would've charged me a small fortune to fix this - if not outright lie to me about what this issue is. They wanted a $200 service & labor fee upfront: I'd be responsible for any further parts and labor if the issue was not under warranty (I have a Family Hub that's just three years old). My thanks to you all!!

Took just a few seconds to be able to pull out the Ice Master tray and clean out all the clogged ice. This is the second time this has happened in a few months. What a piece of junk. I'm so glad to find this tip. Thank you very much for posting.
    Who would know about this left right- left right thing? There aren't even soft buttons on the display there. 'Incredible.
    My tray isn't frozen in, but I do have frost under the ice maker, so I'm hoping this still does the trick for me.
    I'm trying the process now. I do not get any system sounds after selecting Fd mode (I checked the sound settings and there should be something audible if it's beeping at me). Waiting for the 30 minutes now so we'll see what happens.
    Thanks again.

Lol. I’ve watched so many videos and not one single one suggested what you just did in 3 mins 🙌🏼 I’m running a second defrost now since the first one didn’t budge it at all but I am so hopeful. Thank you for this video 🤩

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad I could help. If you have that much ice built up you will need to run the cycle multiple times. Also leave the left side of the fridge door open. That will help with defrosting. The cycle will automatically stop after about 15-20 mins so I suggest manually stopping and rerunning the Force Defrost every 15 mins. Also, when you are pretty sure that everything is melted. Run it one more time just to make sure the water line right at the point it comes into the ice maker is defrosted as well.

    Great video, I have the same fridge and it's exactly what I needed. I have one question, does the force defrost only last 30 minutes or until all the ice is melted and you put the icebin back in it starts on its own? Do I need to reset the icemaker by pushing the red button inside the icemaker?

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Force Defrost will only run about 15-20 mins then automatically stops and returns to cooling. So you can’t just turn it on and walk away. I recommend actually running for about 10 mins and then manually stopping it and then running it again for 10 mins etc. etc. until all the ice is melted. It seems to be warmer if you do that. You do not have to reset the ice maker but you could if you like…no harm done. It’s actually a blue button on the right side of the ice maker towards the front of it. Push and hold for a few seconds you will hear it make a different noise then release it.

      @TechJunky777  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Make sure the ice maker is turned on in the fridge manager menu. Make sure the water source is turned on and flowing properly. Sometimes the water flowing to the ice maker is frozen itself just before it enters the ice maker(this would be my best first guess)if that’s the case you need to run the defrost many more times. You could try the reset button on the ice maker itself. Press and hold to reset it(it’s a blue button on the right side of the ice maker towards the front). If all else fails you could try a reset of the entire fridge/software back to factory settings and then reload the updated software. If you do all this and still nothing then you may need to replace the ice maker(Samsung knows that there is a problem with their ice maker setup so i would call them and press to get them to give you an updated replacement for free) l Hope these suggestions might help you Terry!

      If it is really frozen then it will take possibly more than a few runs to get the tray out. Once the tray is out put your hand up into the ice maker and you should feel the warmth of the heater. It seems to be faster and warmer if you run the force defrost and then manually press test cancel to stop it after 5-10 minutes and then run again…over and over until everything is melted. Also check to make sure you are running Force defrost FD not RD(rear defrost). RD only defrosts the rear of the refrigerator.

      Go back to the settings and make sure that the ice maker is on. You can also press the reset button on the ice maker itself. It is the blue button on the right side of the ice maker towards the front. Press and hold for a few seconds. After you are sure the ice maker is on(in the settings menu) then just close the doors and wait until it makes more ice. Could be an hour or so. Then test it with a cup to see if the ice maker is working properly.

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go to fridge manager then fridge settings then at the top you will see the ice maker…. Toggle it on-to the right so it’s blue
      I would also go back to the engineer mode and press test cancel just to be 100% sure the force defrost isn’t on still.
      It should just work after that. That is all I had to do. But you could use the reset button on the ice machine after its on if you wish. I think the main issue may be not using it for long periods of time and also check the seal to make sure it is sealed properly when the tray is pushed back in. If the warmer air gets in it will cause it to frost up over time. You can order one if it isn’t sealing properly. Check it every month or so after that just to be on top of it in the future.

    So, where's the "fix"???? This is a recurring issue on most Samsung's. If you want to fix the problem, which is caused by faulty seals surrounding the ICEMAKER, then do a search . There's one video in particular that actually does fix the problem whereby the appliance tech (username "The Appliance Guru") takes you step by step through disassembly and the actual "fix" using aluminum tape to seal off the seams on the inside of the icemaker.
    The root problem is condensation from the internal air temp of the food compartment (41 degrees F-ish) leaking into the ICEMAKER where it's minus 1 or 2 Degrees F- ish. This causes the internals to produce ice on the surfaces and what you get is what you see in this video.
    My fridge didn't develop this problem for the first 3 to 4 years and then suddenly, wa-la, my ICEMAKER was stopping up with surface ice. As an engineer myself I can understand and postulate that the seals surrounding the ICEMAKER, likely some kind of liquid sealant, will break free of the two surface due to thermal expansion and freeze thaw cycles over the years of operation. Trust me, the aluminum taping of the internals worked for me and it will work for you.

      @@TechJunky777 - Yes, I knew about the class action lawsuit. Many have already reported that the factory fix doesn't work either. It's expensive to implement and involves the use of an RTV sealant that again fails as it detaches from the surfaces over time. In fact the fellow in the video I describe above is seen removing the sealant that the factor fix instructs you to install. It too fails over time. My ICEMAKER got so bad that I couldn't go 4 to 5 days without clearing an ice cube jam at the top of the icemaker. I did the fix as described in that fellow's video and have been jam-free for nearly a year now with a very rare recurrence every so often. My family uses a lot of ice.

      @@M-Capone after running the force defrost a few times(possibly 5 or more times) you should be able to remove the tray. Then run the Force defrost a couple more times with the tray out until all the ice is gone. Dry the inside completely. Then you can just put the tray back in and make sure you press test cancel to make sure Forced defrost isn’t running anymore. Then in the fridge settings turn the ice maker back on. You shouldn’t need to press the reset button to make it work again. But if you do……Pressing the reset button on the ice maker doesn’t open it up… it just restarts it.

      @@TechJunky777 ah OK. I've actually had the tray out no problem. Didn't see any ice build up... But the ice maker stopped making ice. I thought it had something to do with the water filter needing replacement because the fridge gave me the error message. I replaced it, reset it, and still no ice. So... I thought maybe it froze up internally... Hence me trying this. I'm running the force defrost a 4th time now.... Going to put it all back together after this one and test it out. It's only one year and a few days old.

    What to do when the ive maker starts working back again? Do we need to go back to Engineer mode and press any button? Do we need to do anything further on the fridge manager?

      No need to do anything. It will automatically start again.

    Hey man, great video. I have a UK model and I don't seem to be able to get into the service menu, is there any other way you know to access it? Thanks!

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the response. As far as I know there is no other way to get to the engineer mode. I do notice that sometimes you have to try several times…. It can be picky! I’ll try to find more info on the UK models and send you what I find. I suppose the model I have is just North American so your model might have a different access but as far as I know it should be the same.

      What is your model number? Should be on the inside of the door. Google that number with engineer mode and see if anything comes up.

      @@TechJunky777 Thanks so much. I spoke to Samsung support earlier and they claimed there was no such mode on my model which seems unlikely. Their advice: unplug and defrost the entire fridge. Or use a hairdryer on the ice master....!

      @@HamiltonFishes I wouldn’t put it past them to kill it with a software update! That way you need someone to service it. But a lot of people are successful in getting Samsung to replace the ice maker for free with an upgraded model part. I would call back and press them about it because it is a known issue.

      Go back to the fridge manager and change the temperature. There is a lock icon top corner so once you save your settings you can lock it in.
