  • How to fix and defrost a Samsung Family Hub ice maker.
    steps to fix and defrost your samsung family hub ice maker…
    To start press the home icon
    Step 1 : Go to fridge manager
    Step 2 : Tap the top left and right corners of the screen (right left right left continuously - sometimes takes a minute) until you get to engineer mode
    Step 3 : press fridge function test
    Step 4 : press force run
    Step 5 : press force defrost (FD)
    Step 5 : Press home icon
    Step 6 : press settings
    Step 7 : press sounds and adjust the volume
    Step 8 : press home and go to the fridge manager again
    Step 8 : press fridge settings
    Step 9 : turn ice maker off
    Wait about 30 minutes and then try to remove the ice bucket. Do not force it off. Gently push it up and then pull out to remove it.
    VERY IMPORTANT !!! 🔥🔥🔥
    NOTE: the Force Defrost only runs for 30 minutes before automatically stopping. If you still cannot remove the tray after running the force defrost for 30 minutes then you must RUN THE CYCLE AGAIN and REPEAT if necessary until you can remove the tray. After you remove the tray continue to run it until it is completely defrosted! It might take 5 or more consecutive runs! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
    You can break off as much excess ice as you can during the thawing process if you wish.
    Make sure it is completely thawed and DRY before placing the ice tray back in.
    Step 10 : go back to the fridge manager and press fridge settings and turn on the ice maker
    Step 11 : Go back to the engineer mode and press test cancel to make sure that the force defrost is not still running
    If it doesn't work the first time you can do the process again. Or press the reset button (blue button on the right side of the ice maker towards the front of the ice maker after the ice tray has been removed). I did not have to reset the ice maker.
    Problem solved!!!
    Wait an hour or so for ice cubes to fill the tray before trying the ice maker
    CHECKLIST for after defrosting! *******
    1 - Go to fridge manager then fridge settings then at the top you will see the ice maker... Toggle it on to the right so it's blue
    2 - I would also go back to the engineer mode and press test cancel just to be 100% sure the force defrost isn't on still.
    I think the main issue may be not using it for long periods of time and also check the seal to make sure it is sealed properly when the tray is pushed back in. If the warmer air gets in it will cause it to frost up over time. You can order one if it isn't sealing properly. Check it every month or so after that (empty the tray of cubes completely; make sure it’s defrosted; check the seal on the tray and let the tray fill up with ice again) just to be on top of it in the future.

    I keep coming back here, so here's some detailed written directions...
    1) First try remove ice tray by gently lifting up as you pull, but don't force it if it feels really frozen solid or jammed, or you may break a plastic part.
    2) Next, to turn off IceMaker only (this does NOT disable the food Freezer area), tap "Fridge Manager" icon on Home screen and then tap "Fridge Settings" and switch the IceMaker mode to "OFF" + Proceed. Then tap the < Back icon button at the bottom of screen.
    3) Staying on Fridge Manager screen, enter "Engineer Mode" by only tapping the top-left & top-right corners of that screen (left+right+left+right...) at medium speed until you see the "Engineer Mode" banner pop up toward bottom of screen. it will then take you to the Engineer Mode screen automatically.
    4) tap "fridge function test"
    5) tap "force run"
    6) tap "force defrost" to start the IceMaker-only Defrost cycle (approx.20mins), BUT after about 10-15 mins, he recommends returning to this screen to tap "test cancel" and then tap "force defrost" again to RESTART the defrost cycle thereby keeping the heating coils the hottest presumably. repeat these steps until everything melts just enough for you carefully remove your ice tray/bucket. depending how much of a hurry you are to make ice, you can run warm water in bucket to remove the ice but I usually put it upside down in the sink overnight.
    7) To turn down volume of the repeating system alert sound, tap Home + settings + sound + system/slider to your desired volume.
    *NOTE: If alert sound seems to stop well before the end of a full 20min cycle (possibly due to another routine fridge function or compressor coming on, etc.), you may need to restart the "force defrost" cycle again.
    8) Place a long tray/plate or a towel directly under icemaker to catch melted icewater that should start dripping underneath.
    9) to time your cycle, use your phone timer app or a regular timer set for 10-15mins. you can use the timer app on the refrigerator but it will be hard to get back to the Engineer Mode screen without having to repeat all the above steps. you could also create a repeating ToDo/Calendar reminder to defrost the icemaker every month or two, if preferred.
    10) After IceMaker is visibly defrosted and melted/dry ice bucket is returned, don't forget to go to "fridge manager" and change IceMaker status back to "ON."
    NOTE 2: if the IceMaker is turned on, but does NOT begin making ice, you can try holding down the BLUE button (on the top right side of the icemaker) for 2 seconds, which will make a system sound to let you know the icemaker has been reset. Please see other comments here if these directions do not correct the problem.

      This video, your instructions, and all the comments here have completely helped me solve my problems. Sure as sh*t, Samsung would've charged me a small fortune to fix this - if not outright lie to me about what this issue is. They wanted a $200 service & labor fee upfront: I'd be responsible for any further parts and labor if the issue was not under warranty (I have a Family Hub that's just three years old). My thanks to you all!!

    I'm so glad to find this tip. Thank you very much for posting.
    Who would know about this left right- left right thing? There aren't even soft buttons on the display there. 'Incredible.
    My tray isn't frozen in, but I do have frost under the ice maker, so I'm hoping this still does the trick for me.
    I'm trying the process now. I do not get any system sounds after selecting Fd mode (I checked the sound settings and there should be something audible if it's beeping at me). Waiting for the 30 minutes now so we'll see what happens.
    Thanks again.

Took just a few seconds to be able to pull out the Ice Master tray and clean out all the clogged ice. This is the second time this has happened in a few months. What a piece of junk. At least I know how to fix it now

Thank you for this video 🤩

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Glad I could help. If you have that much ice built up you will need to run the cycle multiple times. Also leave the left side of the fridge door open. That will help with defrosting. The cycle will automatically stop after about 15-20 mins so I suggest manually stopping and rerunning the Force Defrost every 15 mins. Also, when you are pretty sure that everything is melted. Run it one more time just to make sure the water line right at the point it comes into the ice maker is defrosted as well.

    • @mmerx

      For what it's worth: what I learned, the defrost cycle only runs for 30 minutes. I had to run my cycle about 5 times in a row before I could easily pull out the tray. This takes considerable time, so patience and time are needed. I'm leaving my ice maker turned off indefinitely.

      Unfortunately yes. I check every couple of weeks. I need to do this every month or two. The only way to completely solve the problem is to call Samsung directly and demand that they replace the ice maker with the updated version. Tell them you know that they are aware of the issue because there is a class action lawsuit against them in the USA. Even if it’s out of warranty you can make the demand. It’s worth a try. The worst they can say is no. 😎 I’m glad I could help you. Thanks for your support! 😊

      If there is a lot of ice you will have to do force run multiple times until you can get the tray to come out. Sometimes it takes 5 or more tries. I suggest try a few more times and try to gently remove the tray after each run. To open the tray you need to gently push the tray up and then pull straight out because there is a latch holding the tray in…..gently push up and pull out.

      The Force Defrost will only run about 15-20 mins then automatically stops and returns to cooling. So you can’t just turn it on and walk away. I recommend actually running for about 10 mins and then manually stopping it and then running it again for 10 mins etc. etc. until all the ice is melted. It seems to be warmer if you do that. You do not have to reset the ice maker but you could if you like…no harm done. It’s actually a blue button on the right side of the ice maker towards the front of it. Make sure the ice maker is turned on in the fridge manager menu. Make sure the water source is turned on and flowing properly. Sometimes the water flowing to the ice maker is frozen itself just before it enters the ice maker(this would be my best first guess)if that’s the case you need to run the defrost many more times. You could try the reset button on the ice maker itself. Press and hold to reset it(it’s a blue button on the right side of the ice maker towards the front). If all else fails you could try a reset of the entire fridge/software back to factory settings and then reload the updated software. If you do all this and still nothing then you may need to replace the ice maker(Samsung knows that there is a problem with their ice maker setup so i would call them and press to get them to give you an updated replacement for free) l Hope these suggestions might help you Terry!

After you are sure the ice maker is on(in the settings menu) then just close the doors and wait until it makes more ice. Could be an hour or so. I would also go back to the engineer mode and press test cancel just to be 100% sure the force defrost isn’t on still.
      It should just work after that. That is all I had to do. But you could use the reset button on the ice machine after its on if you wish. I think the main issue may be not using it for long periods of time and also check the seal to make sure it is sealed properly when the tray is pushed back in. If the warmer air gets in it will cause it to frost up over time. You can order one if it isn’t sealing properly. Check it every month or so after that just to be on top of it in the future.

    • @TechJunky777

    The only thing I don’t understand is the towel placed under the tray inside the fridge during the forced defrosting. Any water dripping from the clogged ice maker should find it’s way down to outside the fridge where the dispenser is, no? (like ice cubes and crushed ice do). Shouldn’t then the towel rather be placed outside where the fridge dispenses ice and water?

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  ปีที่แล้ว

      Run the defrost with the left side door open. Remove the tray when you are able and continue to defrost with the tray out. Then put a towel inside the freezer compartment to soak up the dripping water until everything is melted. Replace towels as needed to dry everything inside the freezer compartment. That’s the best way to do it.

      @@TechJunky777 thank you!!! one last question: will the forced defrost also thaw what's in my freezer? I have lots of food down there... and should we interrupt the forced defrost / technician override function, once the ice master is clear of any ice? or should we let it continue its defrost all the way through?

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. To defrost the freezer you just need to open it up and let everything melt. Force defrost only defrosts the ice maker compartment. Rear defrost will defrost the back of the fridge if necessary however I never needed to do that.

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  ปีที่แล้ว

      The force defrost function stops automatically after about 20 minutes. You need to run it several times to defrost the ice maker compartment completely. You can stop it by pressing force defrost again also if you just want to stop it.

    Does this defrost only the ice maker or the freezer as well?

    • @TechJunky777
      @TechJunky777  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It defrosts the ice maker as well as the small freezer that houses the ice maker. The lower freezer you just pull open and let the air de-ice if you need to.

I’ll try to find more info on the UK models and send you what I find. @@HamiltonFishes I wouldn’t put it past them to kill it with a software update! That way you need someone to service it. There is a blue reset button on the ice machine … on the right side towards the front of it. It’s a small square blue button. Press and hold for a few seconds. You will hear a different sound. That should reset it. Also go back into the fridge manager page and make sure the ice maker is turned “on”. It should be in settings if it’s not on the fridge manager page itself.

      No it will automatically start up again after running force defrost for about 15-20 mins. Just go back to the Home Screen. Or you can manually stop it by pressing test cancel just above the force defrost selection.
