Happ rebounded from this injury and became a 20-game winner in 2016 posting a record of 20-4 with a 3.18 era. Good for him!

I researched it and Jay Happ received a fractured skull behind his ear, cut on his ear, and a sprained knee that happened when he fell to the ground. After rehab he returned to pitch in August of that year.

This is one of the many reasons I love the MLB. Every player and coach on both sides showed compassion and that they truly cared. The batter certainly showed hurt and sorrow for the pitcher. Everyone showed respect. The fans waited patiently and then clapped as he left the field. That's true sportsmanship and how you play the game like men.

Runs shouldn’t count when a player almost gets killed.

No matter what side your cheering for..! When someone gets hurt, both sides feel it. 🙏

This is why I think pitching is the riskiest position in baseball.

A catcher gets to wear a protective face/head helmet; why the pitcher don’t??

I don't understand why they don't call the ball dead as soon as this happens. Just award everyone one base.

I am glad to see the trainers from the other teams coming out for these kind of injuries. All that experience can only help the situation.

It's so awesome how players on both teams and fans showed that only thing on their mind during the vital moments after the trauma Happ received was Happ's well being.

Forget about what team you're rooting for when it comes to things like this, you don't want to see no one get hurt like that. Even that brought tears 😢 to my eyes 👀.

The defining silence and reverence out of respect and class, empathy and caring understanding for Happ was one of the most surreal things I've ever seen in sport. Yes it's MLB and they are professional players competing for a common goal; at the same time, they are human where injuries can happen at any given and unexpected time...no matter what. Period. They acted like men in the face of something as frightening as this injury was to watch happen.

I hate the fact that he got hurt but I love how everyone was so worried for him and at the end everyone claps even the people on the opposite team and that right there is humanity and a good team player when the other team feels sorry for the other player. God bless him and everyone who felt sorry and clapped a sign of respect and hope that he is ok
