    A lot of people are saying any player would've showed sportsmanship like Eric Young did, but the difference with EYJ is you can genuinely see he cares. At 2:12 you can see him holding his cross saying a prayer, and in his postgame interview he was really teary eyed. He also visited Tim in the hospital after the game. Truly a class act

      Primetime Goody I honestly love when players do what he did. Too many of them don't clearly show in the moment caring of what happened.

    I really commend Eric Young. Surely it just was one of those freak accidents that happen so fast but the way he immediately put the game aside to check on Tim Hudson is not something a lot of MLB players do. Everyone watching knew how torn apart Young was and I'm sure there's a lot more grief that wasn't caught on camera. I've seen other instances in which a player got hit by a pitch or a ball and barely shows the amount of compassion that Young did.

  • @petercosmi9831
    @petercosmi9831 9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

  • @survivrs
    @survivrs 9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I know nothing about any of the players from either team, but seeing the injury several times over, Young is a class act. It wasn't his fault, it was no ones fault, it's just one of those things that happen in competitive sports, but when it does, it's hard to watch. After seeing Young shake his hand before they parted ways, that is what young people in little league and on up should be taught. Sportsmanship counts in life.

    • @A.C31
      @A.C31 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree Young is classy but Tim Hudson would probably say it was his own fault for putting his foot on the middle of the bag. Hudson is also a great guy.

    • @survivrs
      @survivrs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jeff Brown I don't think he had time to think about it. Neither of them did, I think Hudson was unsure of where the bag was, and if he had known, he would have only had his heel on the bag. I played competitive softball for almost 15 years and was the 1st baseman. in high school and for a couple years after that we could wear steel cleats, but then they had to be rubber. I was lucky, I never got spiked but my last year was because at the state tournament, I was well on my way to 2nd and next thing I knew I was flat on the ground and in the worst pain ever. Blew out my right knee. Eight surgeries later I now have a knee replacement. I blew it out a total of 3 times. No fun!

    • @A.C31
      @A.C31 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      survivrs: Ouch!! Sorry about your knee! Yeah, I played first as well and got stepped on a couple of times. Rubber cleats hurt enough, can't imagine the pain of steel ones.

    • @survivrs
      @survivrs 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeff Brown Agreed!! My husband had several cleat injuries from when he played baseball. No fun. I don't think I've ever seen such empathy shown here. The closest thing would have been after Lawrence Taylor tackled Joe Theismann and was motioning as hard as he could for the medical staff to get out there asap because of the obvious severity of his broken leg. Taylor stayed there and had his hands on his helmet as if to say "what did I do?" He was shook up and Theismann never played again. Hudson's teammates were even trying to console Young as he stayed out there with them. There was a lot of class shown here.

    • @A.C31
      @A.C31 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      survivrs: I can't watch the Theismann video, ever again! I saw it live and couldn't even watch the replay, at the time. I've buried my head in my hands many times since then. Taylor was classy about it, indeed. You knew it was awful, for LT to to do that.

    I had a similar situation happen to me a couple years back. It was actually my first ever varsity at bat and I was trying to beat out a ground ball. The first baseman for some reason was moving his foot back onto the base like Hudson and stepped on my ankle as I was going by. Thankfully for me it just ended up being a really bad sprain but it could have been much worse, like in this case.

      1st base men are trained to keep their foot on the side of the plate and since the pitcher covered first base in this play, his foot was on the part of the bag where the base runner had to step. Nobody's fault here but i applaud young for him staying at the bag to make sure he was ok good sportsmanship. Just an honest accident.

    Could it have been safer for Hudson to tag Young instead, or did Hudson simply have no opportunity to tag him?

      It would have been hard to tag him

      This comment is really old, but it’s standard for pitchers to cover the bag in a situation like that. However you’re supposed to keep your foot simply touching the base not on top of it.

    Well, I'm a red sox fan. If the same thing happened between a-rod and mike Napoli, Do you think a-rod's gonna come back and shake his hand? But yeah, it doesn't make him a hero. It makes him seem like a genuine good person, which is what you can't say about too many people.

    You can tell it was an accident just on Young’s genuine reaction and care for Hudson. Also Hudson’s foot was way over the bag. This is why they teach you to step on the left side as a pitcher when covering. And right side as a runner.

    Eric Young Jr. Is definetly a good sport

    What screwed Hudson was the double clutch with his foot. He was pulling it off but put it back on making sure. Nobody is to blame here, EYJr being a good sport, a lot of respect to him as some guys wouldn't even go right away to check on an injured player

    SOME people are like Eric Young. ALL people should be like Eric Young. there's a huge difference.

    That actually could've gone a hell of a lot worse than it did. Eric Young Jr. could've screwed up his foot as well if Hudson's foot/heel was in a stranger position. Whole thing was a terrible accident. Glad Hudson got a ring the next year before he retired after the following one.
