      Nice sentiment but he really has never been the same and I'm sure his dad understood the gravity of something like this. I played highschool baseball and sid well until I took a ln intentional brutal fastball to my back, couldn't not flinch after that. Wind got knocked out of me, when a pitcher wants to hit you there's nothing you can do. You just hope you don't run into pitcheea like that who just enjoy hitting people, hurting people. And as someone who was a catcher..believe me, yes they need one lol as does the ump. The ump gets hit in the face more than anybody on the field

      @chrisheffernan6600 um what? I'm strictly referring to the clips of him onlooking chewing gum. He shockingly didn't look concerned at all. I didn't say he wasn't concerned (I'm sure he was as any parent would be). To say he doesn't "looked" concerned is just saying what it looked like. I, for one, covered my mouth and legitimately couldn't uncover it for several seconds bc it was that horrifying to me. I was just surprised at his reaction during that clip and how he could stay so nonchalant looking.

    I don't remember when this happened. What was the damage from this accident. I don't know if I could pitch after this. I wrestled in HS, COLLEGE (D2) and the ARMY.
    I was wrestled a guy in a duel meet, and actually new the guy , a good kid wrestled him HS at state, he beat me!
    Anyhow we were in the second period and somehow I shot he tried to sprawl but I managed to stand him up with his leg tucked under my arm and he was hopping trying not to be taken down when he tried to roll through and I heard and felt a pop in the knee under my arm and let out a scream and I let go of his leg so fast. I was so glad it was a duel meet and I didn't have to wrestle another match that night or that weekend, because that shook me for a couple days. He ended up with a torn MCL and ACL and something else with his patella.
    But does anyone know the extent of his injury?

      A bit graphic what im about to tell you. The ball split his cheek open down to the muscle if im not mistaken The accident caused alot of permanent damage to his veins to this very day (hence why he wears the guard a lot). That injury not only cost him his season it almost cost him his career

      +NO_N4ME I'm pretty sure that's a trainer that winked. Irregardless, I think he is winking at the catcher, to let him know that there is no ill will, and and that the batter is being worked on and they got it under control. It sometimes can be used as a subtle way of letting someone know that you understand that you are remorseful and it's acknowledged.

      Not really though I can understand the INTERPRETATION. He's from old school and raised him so, "Get up. Shake it off. Or do what you have to do and get better. Not from the parent who uses sympathy and the child play into it to get attention as many sp households do. That's why he's a professional baseball player and as I hear became MVP after this incident. That type of man is dying in men just as femininity is dying in women by the new philosophy.

      SonicOfPoon point is STANTON was SWINGING not AVOIDING and thats why he got hit NOTHING wrong with that IF he would have not swung AND was able to see that the ball was coming to him STANTON wouldnt have gotten hit

    • @SonicOfPoon
      @SonicOfPoon 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Killayogi You can see the point where he realizes that the ball could hit him and starts to bring his arms and bat up to defend himself

  • @skeeterinnewjersey5256
    @skeeterinnewjersey5256 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's a nightmare no matter which direction the ball is traveling. I remember a few years back when Alex Cobb was pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays caught a 107-mph comebacker off the side of his head and went down and lay motionless. He was carried out on a stretcher, barely conscious, and I think the batter was pulled from the game because he was so distraught he couldn't hit anymore. I know the arguments about pitchers wearing or not wearing protective gear, but imagine if an 88-mph pitch can do that, what about a hit going over 100-mph hitting someone wearing only a cloth baseball cap? Charlie Morton was pitching for the Braves when he took a comebacker off his landing leg in the WS. He went on pitching but after the game xrays showed his leg was broken. Even if they aren't actually hit, a large number of pitchers face Tommy John surgery to rebuild their elbows which takes them out of their careers for close to a year or more. No matter what position you play, taking a rock-hard object like a baseball off your body makes baseball a risky business.

    I am glad he is ok. I can relate to when I was hit directly in the forehead by a chunk of a brick that was thrown by Scott Cox in nursery school, blood on my hands and stitches. Then less than three years later, Dominic Luppino tripped me and pushed me down face first on the concrete at Griswold Elementary School. I suspect that perhaps that is where the black eye came from. I should have had X Rays. All I can say is, I know what it feels like and it is painful. Again, I am Giancarlo is ok now, and that he should protect his face.

    This is sad. Even in the most heated game this wouldn't get kudos. It was clearly an accident. I got nailed by a pitch when I was younger while I was not in the box and even looking down. When I pulled my bat up the pitch was already coming. It was also an accident but the pitcher seemed to be the only one that was unaware of that My nose swelled up so big that I looked like Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Looking like Odo was the only thing funny about it, lol.
