The only problem for many golfers is that they may miss these irons all together. In this video Ali discusses how they look, feel and perform as well as who these irons will suit, could they be your next irons?

If I hadn't taken 18 years off the game because of injury, just back in the last 18 months, left the game playing a Titleist Professional Ball and Taylormade C300 Cavity Backed Lehman blades by Miura, then I would have likely never approached clubs with a fresh perspective. The 5 iron shots in this video just highlight why these types of clubs, while excellent at what they do, are basically inferior in every way against a modern P770 hollow blade with tungsten, speed slots, etc, etc. A normal 190-193 5 iron can easily become a 165 fade - whereas with some tech in the club, that 165 fade, hit slightly out of the toe, would likely have been 178 and on the front edge of the green. The area of my game that has improved the most is exactly in this area because of technology (and a modern ball versus a Titleist Professional), but I've also decided that if it can help you in this area, then it surely can help you in the shorter end of the bag - it will just be less obvious - but statistically the help will be there. I've built an iron set with the following lofts (47, 42, 38, 32, 28, 24) that have carries (132, 145, 158, 171, 184, 195) and the clubs have written on the bottom of them (PW, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5) but that 5 iron with a loft of 24 degrees is really the spec loft of a bladed 4 iron) and that 197 carry is the carry I would have got on my 18 years bladed 3 iron with a Titleist Professional Golf ball - so fast forward 20 years from when I left the game at age 30 hitting a 3 iron 195, I'm now 50 hitting a 5 iron 197 - so in my opinion, that's using tech to improve your game - handicap 20 years ago was 11, now I'm a 5-6 - and I believe most of that is technology (yes lots of practice). Most Pro bags in the last 2 years have adopted lots of tech in 25 to 21 degree lofted 'iron' part of their bag because it just makes so much sense to do so - and carrying a 21 degree traditional 3 iron is now also not even the norm in a PGA Tour bag. The other thing I would offer is that there is no reason not to drop a club from the traditional 7 club iron set of PW-4 iron and make it a 6 club set covering these traditional lofts (47-24 degrees) and then use that 'free' club to add another hybrid or wedge or driving iron or wood to your bag - as the PGA Tour stats show that this is the most important thing for your scoring - i.e. being better in the 175-200 and 200-225 range - i.e. improving that poor toe'y 5 iron 165 fade into a better 178 fade. I still love my old Miura made Taylormade Lehman Cavity back blades - but I score better using my current modern setup - it happens to be mostly Mizuno but I could easily replicate it using mostly the P770 clubs.

Currently set up with 5-7 p770 and 8-PW P7MC and I absolutely love it. As I get better with shot shaping I plan to swap the 7i p770 for a p7mc and go from there. Great irons

I know this was 2 years ago, but did you notice a distance gap with the 770 and MC's? I have full set of 770s, but want 7-PW in the MC's now. Cheers

With you on the T needing to be black paint fill. 4,5 P770, 6-8 P7MC, 9&P P7MB with lofts tweaked to get gapping spot on 👍

Hi Ali....Sim UDi 3 Iron + 4-PW MB...you hit the MB's more consistent, with slightly better yardage gapping front to back with them, rather than the MC's....Though to be fair it's tough to make that call on the basis of 3 shots with each....But certainly, on the small sample there, a SIM UDi 3 iron and 4-PW P7.MB.....Do it, you know you want to....Lol

At the 5:50 mark Ali, when you hit the 7 iron off the bottom groove, the spin was just 4800rpm. It actually spun less from low off the face than when you middled it. Do we really believe that, or is it a trackman fail? Doesn’t seem to compute

Great review. As we get better as golfers its ironic that we dont just want the club to go farther but better. LOL. So for me, playing best golf after 10 years of learning, ironic that I might get new clubs that go shorter! And thus take a step back to go forward. Hitting my Miz MCs great but Im thinking of 770s straight through and not mix. Maybe peak at the 790s because Im sure I would hit them long but they look a little clunky. Cant comment on your setup but yeah, probably 3-5 MC, 6-PW MB. (7MBs prettiest iron Ive ever seen!)

I am seriously looking at the P770 when they arrive in Oz. More compact than the P790 with similar tech inside. I think Ali you could very easily do a split bag. You know you want to. At least play some holes so we can se how they go

Funny because everyone talks about the feel of these clubs. I’m going to try these to see difference between T100s and these.

These look kinda like my TM r9 TP forged irons (Japan) but without the cool racing flag.

Thinking of blending my P730’s into these MC’s or p770’s - would you see a problem getting p730’s a degree strong in loft? I have a 23 degree hybrid the other end so need my 5 to have some more bang (but still stop)

    p770 / 3-5 - you seem to love the MB's so 6-PW. I think im going MC 5-9 with a P770 4 iron

Almost like the mp-18 SC model. Very overlooked

  • @andya2665

Just my opinion but Taylormade trivializes potentially landmark iron releases because they come out with so many and they are so similar. I guess marketing wise it works, but the technology really hasn't progressed. I will keep my Mizuno MP-54s.

What spin should someone expect normally with a 7 iron, have been told 7000 but a lot of the reviews of these irons spin is a lot lower than that?

      Purchased my new 7MCs today. Was hitting the 7 iron w anywhere between 7000 and 8000 w/ a 6.5 project x shaft.

The problem is that you are not a good enough of a ball striker to hit the middle of the club head. That’s why you can’t get the distance or spin that you say you’re expecting. You shouldn’t play these irons, you need irons that are much more forgiving.

Why would we forget the best looking P700 of the bunch! Your video doesn't make sense, nor the title... click bait at best. You're out of touch, mate.
