    This tip and the hip turn lesson repaired my long lost game. My shots were going straight but always short and weak. Now I'm back to a nice easy swing with a light grip and lots of distance. Hallelujah!

    3 weeks on from my previous comment and I am playing the best golf ever. Averaging 10 over par. I'm amazed at the consistency of strike and effortless distance for a 56yo who only started playing regularly 5 years ago. I have stopped watching other golf improvement videos, how can I possibly get any better...but there's so much scope to regress. One important aspect of this drill is to remember to shift your weight towards the target to decrease loft. And I play once a week!

  • @stevefowler2112
    @stevefowler2112 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I'm a 4 and when fully tuned up I can challenge par on most any course...to become a good golfer you have to spend enough time at the range to find a grip/setup and swing that you can repeat and have the ball go where you aim it (I generally have two range sessions a day 3 or 4 days a week: a lunch session which is probably only an hour that is very regimented and an evening session where I can stay as long as I want and just play with a lot of fun shots. To get "fully tuned up" I have to do two a days for 7 days a week for a couple weeks with practices becoming more course specific simulations). From there you can start playing with grip and ball placement and club address and slight variations of your base swing plane. I didn't get really good until i started being able to slightly alter any or all the above to hit the shot I wanted to hit; High/low, draw/hook, fade/slice...or just a standard straight ball.

      I’m a 14.3 and I hit 1000 balls/ week at the range, 5-7 hour of pitching and chipping and about the same putting and play 36-54 holes/ week. Been doing this for almost a year. I can’t imagine getting into the single digits. Golf is hard.

      @@HolmesoverHouse I hope you are joking...if you spend that much time practicing you should be near scratch like me. I would recommend you seek put a PGA Pro instructor to try and go back to basics and fashion a repeatable swing that you can take to the course.

    Tried this bit of a drill today, my first game in over 4 weeks due to overseeding here in Arizona. While I was not so exaggerated as you Ali I found that a bit of wrist and impact position preset prior to my backswing helped me create better ball then ground contact and more accuracy. Thanks.

    Thanks for posting these training tips. Many others copy your advice on TH-cam,but yours are the best. I ruined my swing 2 weeks before Christmas trying to do things with bent back wrists and body rotations. The inconsistencies in strike were enough to skip a round of golf! So I sought out your video to reacquaint myself with some solid easy to replicate advice and voila! I can hit an iron again. And I don't need to worry about a huge back swing to get good distance, just focus on my contact and shaft. One thing that realy helps is remember to push my left hip backwards as opposed to rotating or bumping the right hip forward.

    So I'm an arm swinging 50 year old trying after 20 years away from the game to keep up with my teenage one year in body swinging behemoth! This launch angle watch I have never seen any other pro in person or on YT explain, it's a great indicator rather than pure carry for getting hips through creating shaft lean. More indicators like this for each club and how things change with a driver would be fantastic. Great content.

    Just got back from the range where I tried out this drill, and it was unreal! I'm a decent ball striker with a 7 handicap, but I was pureing every iron shot. I couldn’t believe it! The guy next to me, who works at the range, said he’s never seen anyone hit their irons that high. I laughed out loud because I usually don’t hit them this well. Thanks for this drill-I’m going to keep working on it and hope it sticks!

    Great video, should we be aiming for 10-12 degrees lest than the static loft of each club i.e. 32 degree 7 iron launching at 18-20 degrees? Would that be the same for all the irons? Thanks

    • @pbode1
      @pbode1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had the same question, when I checked the Trackman website last week they quoted 17 degrees for a 6 iron at 80 mph swing speed. Which is the swing speed I have on average with my 7 iron. Are there any stats on these? Ping has one for drivers I think, but not for irons. I assume the input variables for launch angle are shaft length, swing speed, dynamic loft and AoA? Static loft is different dependent on one's golf set.

    • @krusher74

      your inpact position is the same across the irons so yes you will deloft about the same ammount each club, slightly less as you go to the long irons as the ball position is further forward.

    Fascinating video. Thanks for this. I am struggling to understand why I lose so much distance though. My 7 iron ball speed is average 127mph, launch 18 degrees which is is comparative to the low launch and ball speed you are getting but my average distance is 150-155 yards. My ball flight always seems to climb and land soft. Is this spin causing the ballon affect?

    • @krusher74
      @krusher74 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @gvanhove
      @gvanhove 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds like you're not letting your upper body release to your target which is inhibiting torque. Check to see where your shoulders are right after impact. The back shoulder should be pretty much following the ball flight and eventually ending with both shoulders somewhat square to your target. Play the above video in super slow motion and watch how his shoulders rotate through the ball. The torque is actually generated from the hip and thigh movement from the coil-uncoiling. Distance is usually constrained due to attack/launch angle as the author points out, but also a swing that utilizes mostly arms rather than coiling. Just read your comment again and you mention you are getting a comparative ball speed. Now that really seems odd as it is way off distance wise. As krusher74 stated... try a different ball or use a different launch monitor.

    I’m a beginner, so I’m really bad at this. Watching your video, I understand what I need to do. Question, is it worth going in slow motion? Just need to be mindful not to try and hold on to the angles too long. The key for me is to create as much lag as possible early on but release the angle into the ball (or just past). An impact bag helps with this feel

    Good video Ali, but when taking a full swing and ripping through, most of us lose sense of what we are doing and what our hands, wrists, the club head and face are doing at that speed. We already know the ultimate position at impact. We just can't get there because of the blur that happens from the top down to impact. That's where many of us need help. Help us not lose it between those two points. Why are we losing it? How do we maintain that angle between the arm and the shaft from the top ending with shaft lean at impact? A new video on that topic would be much appreciated

    • @gvanhove
      @gvanhove 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Try avoiding a swing with all arms. The more arms and wrist the more chance of error. Swing with your shoulders by starting your backswing with your forward shoulder and then at the top of your backswing start your downswing with your back shoulder. Rotating hips and shoulders accordingly as well as shifting your weight from back to front. Go easy on this routine... it may throw your back out if not gradually worked into it. In your initial stance start with your hands slightly in front of the ball. Only do this with your mid to short irons.

    • @Blue_Dun
      @Blue_Dun 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@gvanhove thanks for the suggestions. I have been working hard on letting my arms and hands sling through without tension in reaction to the shifting of pressure to my left foot and the rotation of the body. I struggled hitting it fat in the fairway and around greens. I finally learned that the proper rotation of the hips is a big key for me. Making sure the right hip goes back, even a little towards the target, rather than swaying (even a little ) and rotating. This puts me in a better position to shift into the left side with much less effort and economy of motion. Anyway... appreciate you taking the time to read and respond to my reply to Ali

    The Pros have the swing speed to deloft an 8 iron to a 6 iron and hold the green. The average hacker does not. Average golfers need trajectory to hold greens. Delofting with shaft lean is all the rage now. But unless you have the swing speed, these shots would not be functional. You'd be sailing thru greens. Good if you need a wind cheater shot.

      I think this is basically for people to learn that the hands should be more forward of the ball at impact. Most lose distance because their hands are even with the ball at impact, or behind it,, trying to help get the ball in the air, which looses distance.. This drill helps keep a decending blow at impact , which is what you want..

    You should have kept the same swing speed instead of increase it to prove the ball goes further.

      It will increase club head speed as well. The small pick up in speed is only a faction of the pick up.

    • @thomasmccauley9607
      @thomasmccauley9607 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The problem I see with this approach is some golfers will try to hold the angle and therefore will not release the club resulting in slower swing speed. The ball will travel lower but not very far.

    I see all of these videos from you You Tube golf pros showing us mere mortals how to hit the ball. Everyone of you demonstrate these positions and show how we should do it but then you strike the ball with "your" golf swing and your not even close to being in those positions. I play daily Im a single figure golfer and Im never in those positions and never see anyone else in them either. Its a feeling of shaft lean at impact and a downward ball then ground strike that you want and need to hit the ball pure. Just saying....

    Shaft lean is insanely overrated and golf is proving that fact. Neutral to +0.5 to 1 degree is all any golfer needs to play well.
