Kri, this is a nice light set up, very well done and well thought out. We use a similar set up as well. The only thing that I would change would be adding time code generation to each of the cameras. Deity makes a three pack and you can buy their multi-port accessory to it for the FX3s. That accessory only works with the Fx3 or fx30. This will allow you to embed the audio with the FX3 and with the A7RV, you would use the included cable to embed audio through the left channel. This will make sinking audio super easy, like drag and drop. Time code generation will change your life.
hey i like this video thank you for your input and insight on these topics. Ive been bringing an entire PC in order to incorporate going live or different styles of picture in picture , I use multiple a7s2s (id love to have fx30s for this but the s2s have been amazing i just dont wanna sell them, never had an over heating issue also which i know some people do run into. I also have an a7s3 for use) I Love the fact you have the ssd output and all the redundant audio saving. i love that. this is probably the best video that makes me want to get the mini. ive worked with it on multiple locations but i do not have one myself though. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice (BTS) video with a clear, concise explanation of how you set the project and why/how you use the hardware the way you have it setup. I learned a lot, well done and Thank you. 👍
Hi Kri. Thank you so much. I'm just starting out doing research to see all what it takes for a good video podcast setup. I cannot tell you how helpful your video was. It's a lot to grasp for me, as I'm so green to all this, but I'm finally starting to understand just what I'll need. Thanks again so much. I did have one question, when you plugged your HDMI into the camera, you fastened it secured with something onto the actualt camera. What was that? I'm thinking its something not included with cameras and needs to be after market?❤
Glad you found it helpful! I have a small rig cage for my camera that comes with the hdmi clamp: www.smallrig.com/SmallRig-Cage-for-Sony-FX30-FX3-4183.html?skuId=1626864585649934337&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAxea5BhBeEiwAh4t5K0ePqBgncBjQ_kaTPe7ACnwjMmuud3AmbE3BKa2X9SCMbzSz7NTaOxoC9iwQAvD_BwE
I just bought it for this same setup. Only having to take one item that does both is amazing. The only drawback I see is that the Atem you can load the project files in Resolve to later make any changes if necessary.
That’s a really cool setup Kri. Are you capturing in 1080p? I would imagine you are for hour+ long episodes. Also quite curious about the industry these podcast episodes are geared toward.
Thanks, Gary! I record podcast episodes in 1080 and it's important to note that the ATEM Mini Pro ISO maxes out at 1080 even if your camera settings are in 4k. If you must have 4k, you can edit the 1080 files (easier to work with) and replace them with 4k in the edit, but you have to capture 4k directly from your cameras using SD Cards or if your camera allows it, to an external SSD.
@@kriedholm I thought so. I bought one of those rugged ATEM boxes but have not used it yet, but I hope to capture interviews using a similar workflow. Only exception in my setup would be audio into a Tascam portacapture, then into the ATEM. What industry is the topic?
@@GaryStockton This one is commercial real estate, but I produce podcasts for a wide variety of industries. As long as the conversation is compelling, this medium works very well!
Very informative video. Thank you for sharing. Out of curiosity, after you record & edit the podcast episodes, do your clients take care of the distribution portion of the process (adding it to their website, TH-cam Channel, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc…)? Or do you offer that service as well? Thru my own personal experience I’ve learned that business owners want a podcast recorded & edited, but they often don’t really know how to get them to the different platforms for consumption. And your set up is great. I wouldn’t change a thing.
Yes, but I recommend shooting in 1080 if you plan on recording for a long period of time with the a6700. You could run into overheating issues otherwise.
What would you change about this setup?
Perhaps booming the shotgun on camera mics but I'm being nit-picky since there's already a ton of redundancy here.
Another amazing content Kri! Thanks a lot!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I do really need to do this. Thanks for the push!
Thank you ❤
You're welcome!

a practical example
bravo
Appreciate it!
Where do you get your colorful cables from? If you dont need to record on the ninja 5, what type of screen would you use?
I grabbed the cables off of amazon and this is my fav monitor if I'm not using the N5: th-cam.com/video/0mX-F4KU9Uk/w-d-xo.html

wait wait wait what is this battery setup you have for the cameras?! genius I think?
V mount batteries are a game changer!
Can I use the a6700 to record podcast?
