excellent video! I'm looking to start a family podcast where i document family history. im looking at the p4 as my first interface and its portable. so excited to get started! 😊😊
Brother, great job with this video. I had already ordered one on line, and I guess I was looking for some supporting videos that I had made a good choice. Looking forward to it. Thanks again !
Thank you I have purchased this device and have been playing around and getting used to the device and was concerned about the humming glad you mentioned this ✌️👍
If I am recording a podcast on OBS, how would I connect this to the PC for it to work? I am a noobie at this. If anyone knows a video on how to set this up to a PC, it would be great.
At mark 6:22 you say you can Havel “all xlr inputs” recorded to your computer through the usb audio interface. The manual says it’s a 2 in / 2 out audio interface. So can you really send 4 xlr inputs to your PC to say live stream or record the 4 mics on some external audio software like Audacity.
If I want ro record at a venue that already has its own sound setup, can I use this device to record the audio out of their mixer? Can I connect the mixer output to the Zoom XLR / TRRS input, or are they strictly for microphones?
Pod tracker! I bought a 3rd part AC power source bc I use this in-studio. I had the H6 for years but the headphone jack starting getting more and more loose. Looking online, this was a common problem that couldn’t be fixed. That’s why I got Podtrack. Being able to give in-studio guest(s) headphones is great! Just hoping the inputs don’t get loose over time.
@@ShawnKoh I noticed that as well but it’s still unfortunate because there could be times were there is actually background noise being picked up. It could either mask it or you might write it off as just the self noise of the P4.
When having a guest using a phone line, is he/she listening to you while you are talking thru the phone or thru the mic you have setup on the podtrack 4?
Just looking around looking to upgrade my Yamaha AG06, initially examining tge Rodecaster Pro 2, but cannot justify the cost at the moment. The P4 seems to have a good spec and really enjoyed watching your video. So, you've been using it for about a year - what are your thoughts now? Thanks
Yes, it works well as an external audio recorder as you can manage your audio separately. The only disadvantage is having to sync the audio track with the video in post editing. But for multiple microphone recording for video, this is one of the best ways to do so!
Awesome video so much info! I'm looking to buy this one for a video podcast, do you see any problems with synchronization, since I saw that is recording at 44.1 kHz instead of the 48khz of a video?
I record my podcast on the phone through the anchor app. Can I plug this into my phone and still record my show as usual? Or would I have to record and then upload to my computer?
I just bought this podtrak 4 and I wasn’t able to hear my remote guest in this device. I could only hear myself and I could only hear my guest audio through my Mac speakers which kinda sucked. Am I missing sometime like a setting or are you not able to hear your remote guest?
Excellent point about the "recording" indicator light not being obvious enough. As you said, of all the lights they've got on there, that should be the biggest one. I like the Blue Yeti Pro mic for this reason. The "live" indicator light is very obvious, and it's also very obvious when it's on "mute."
Sometimes these companies lose sight of the most obvious things when they are busy making other parts better :) But hopefully they will take it into consideration for future products :)
My sister is a journalist and very often she does phone call interviews. All she is looking for is record a conventional phone call including her voice in one file and able to play back on the device itself. Wondering if this is the right device for her..
Hello Shawn From New Orleans !! I Wanted To Ask Your Opinion On Which Microphones Work Best With The Podtrak P4 ? I Am Thinking Between Samson Q2U and Shure SM58.
How can I control the audio level that goes to the phone (Ch3). If they hear me softly, how do I rise the level? Excuse me, I do not speak english. Thanks from Colombia.
Thank you Shawn!! This was a great, clear video on how to use the P4. It all made sense as I am gearing up for my 2nd podcast with optimised audio (Podtraker).
I have 3.5 to xlr adapters and I can't get any of my 3.5mm mics (rode or any other brand) to work on any channel OR EVEN the auxillary channel of my zoom podtrak p4, yet hooking in my phone or any other audio device in any channel works...
Hi! I just want to know. Can I use this as a recorder and run it from my mixer via XLR left and right into the zoom? And do the 4 headphone outputs monitor an individual XLR or the whole mix entirely. Cause I want to hook it up to my mixer and I have four guest on my podcast so I want them to have their own headphones but must be able to monitor the entire main mix. Is that possible with the p4?
Hey there, I'm not too much of an expert in this but i presume u are trying to use the P4 as a headphone splitter? And the main input will be from the mics into your mixer correct? Although I can't be 100% sure, it does sound logical. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful :)
Hey man appreciate the video great stuff. Had a quick question for you. I have a podcast with one other host and and we’re trying to bring on a guest for our show..so 3 people total recording from same location. Would this work for that? I have 3 xlr samson Q2U mics. Was looking at buying an audio interface but I think this might be the move. Thoughts? Thanks!
Hey there! Yes this recorder can record up to 4 separate audio files. You can have a look at my latest podcast (see playlists) where I have all 4 people with 4 xlr mics. Hope this helps!
Hi, I’ve just purchased this and I was wondering your battery door is painted and looks like it’s part of the product? Mine sms unpainted and look like a 3rd party replacement
I use
it and I love it
I just acquired one and I'm really thankful for this review. Very insightful 🎯
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video! I learned more from this than from 5 different channels. Simple and concise, thank you.
Hello from Tampa Florida Shawn! Great review!
Hello there! Thanks!
What is the metal stand in your video at 4:30? I have the PodTrak P4 and would love a metal stand to put it on while using it.
Solid video bro!
excellent video! I'm looking to start a family podcast where i document family history. im looking at the p4 as my first interface and its portable. so excited to get started! 😊😊

Awesome! All the best!

I want to know about the stand. Please tell me where to get it, it looks amazing.
It's a phone clamp with a mini-tripod hahah pretty easy to find online :)
nice video shawn! really interesting take from you bro
Podtracker! thanks dude, i need this, any budget suggestion for xlr/dynamic mics to use or paired with the p4
Great video! Do you know if it has line output to conect to camera direct (3.5mm)?
Been deabting fo rmonths now to get one and im finally making a decison thank you for this informative video!
can we use this for live streaming?
Yeah, this is possible, but I think you already tried.
Nice honest review
Cheers!

Hi ☺, what are you using for a stand for your P4 in the desk clip? Thanks for the video. It was very helpful.
It's a phone clamp :) you can find them online, they are tripod phone clamps.
@@ShawnKoh okay thank you. I was tired of having to lean over when I'm making adjustments mid recording 😅
How do I sync audio from the podtrak with the video
With out my pc will I get separate tracks so I can edit my & Guess audio when I add it my editing software
The tracks are recorded separately onto the SD card, so you can select the individual track you wish to use.
Thanks for the review, awesome stuff!
Cheers! glad you enjoyed it!
I am able to use my iPhone camera and have stellar audio with it?
Yea that hissing in the headphones does bother me and makes question if the hiss is really coming from the mics.
I've checked the audio and it is clean, the hissing doesnt affect or appear in the recordings :)
@@ShawnKoh I noticed that as well but it’s still unfortunate because there could be times were there is actually background noise being picked up. It could either mask it or you might write it off as just the self noise of the P4.
where to connect the camera
I JUST GOT ONE MYSELF WHERE DID YOU GET THE STAND IN THE BEGINNING???????????
Its a simple phone clamp! you can buy those on amazon!
Were did you get the stand for Zoom Podtrak p4? i need one :)
Its a phone clamp. U can find those at your IT or mobile stores

When having a guest using a phone line, is he/she listening to you while you are talking thru the phone or thru the mic you have setup on the podtrack 4?
Yes the audio feeds into the phone as well
Will this device work on Streamyard or OBS?

Can I use my cellphone for put some music in channel 3?
yes
So can I connect the usb c to my iPad?
Dude this was an amazing video! Thank you. Super detailed and very surprised you don’t have a bigger following. Definitely a hidden gem.

would you recommend this for video work where I would record the audio on the SD card and import into video editor?

That really looks like something useful to have , so far I have been using the Saramonic Smartrig + 2-Ch XLR

Hi, this question isnt really related as it is based on the app :)
Will a cloud lifter or signal booster stop the hissing sound or is there anything else that can minimise this type of disruption? Thanks in advance.
The hissing sound is more of a headphone jack issue, it does not affect what is being recorded so I don't think you'll need to fix that issue :)
Can you send me the link to get the battery bank you are using?

Can i recored my podcast on the sd card and on an ipad at the same time ?
Aka two recording of the same podcast
You can use one of the headphone jacks to connect to your ipad to record simultaneously
@@ShawnKoh the headphone jacks !!? I assumed if it possible, it would via the usb port (i dont think the headphone jack can transfer data)

Can P4 connect to iPhone for live instagram?
I believe with the right adapters it should be able to. But I've yet to try it out.
I have 3.5 to xlr adapters and I can't get any of my 3.5mm mics (rode or any other brand) to work on any channel OR EVEN the auxillary channel of my zoom podtrak p4, yet hooking in my phone or any other audio device in any channel works...
Check if they are TRRS or TRS 3.5s.
Some 3.5s are meant for smart phones and requires adapters.
Can this device be powered directly via the USB-C cable going directly into a wall plug or Macbook charger?
Yes, if your wall charger is for a USB outlet, then yes it can be powered that way!
@@ShawnKoh if I plug the podtrack p4 with USB C directly to a Macbook will it bot charge and serve as an audio interface?
Mines say recording error.
How do I fix that?
Please ask the manufacturer or brand. I do not work for them.
