    Jacques, as always thanks for taking a moment and sharing this with us. almost 50% of this video was on lighting and even though Nanlite received your seal of approval as a product you were teaching how to motivate light when using natural light. I have learned so much from you Sir and saying Thank You seems like not enough. Thanks for all you do.

    This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my TH-cam channel 8 months ago about self development. Now I have 936 subs and > 800 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

    This was absolutely amazing to watch! Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication. Here is one takeaway from this video that hasnt even been covered mainly. What i noticed so far in your behind the scenes is how clean the sets are where you shoot. Its absolutely spotless. That gives you many options to create a beautiful image and puts the main focus on the character and the story, unless the set is made to be "messy" like the shots from the library. Stunning work, keep it up!

    Jacques, I've seen all your vids on auto-focus but I'm having a huge problem with getting everyone in focus and what modes to choose from. What mode/f stop do you suggest when there are multiple people in the frame? You obviously can't use eye AF with more than 2 ppl in the frame, but I'm not getting clear focus and don't know what I'm doing wrong

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear that you're struggling, I just replied on your other comment but again it's tricky to recommend an F/stop if I don't know how far the people are apart and at what angle you are shooting them.

    Jacques, I recently used my 35 f1.8 prime lens on a shoot and couldn't get everyone in focus. There were two people in the shot and it would only focus on one of them if they weren't both in the same plane. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to bump the aperture up to 2.8 or larger or is my focus mode wrong?? I made sure not to use EYE-AF when there are more than 2 people in the frame on wide mode but i still cant nail focus. Would love for you to do more videos on auto-focus with the A7Siii because I can't figure it out

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaaah yes, if you shoot F/1.8 you will not be able focus on both unless they're sitting exactly on the same focal plane. Your only option would be to shoot on F/4 or higher, depending on how far they are from each other. For 2 people or more I use the tracker and tap on the person with priority in the moment but getting 2 people exactly in focus requires you to be at an angle where the focal plane is straight on parallel. There's simply no way around that :(

    Hello, thank you for your videos. I would appreciate hearing your recommendation. I'm considering upgrading from my Sony a6400 to a full-frame camera, and I'm facing a dilemma: whether to spend more and get the FX3 or save money and go for the ZV-E1, getting pretty much the same image but with the remaining funds invested in more lenses, etc? I shoot a variety of content, from events to weddings, so my direction is quite diverse. I really want to upgrade and start to make more professional videos, but I’m kinda stuck between these two and don’t know what to choose.

  • @JonasBecker

    Thanks for your constant uploads over the years ,Jacques! You've teached me and the community so much about lighting, composition, storytelling and motivated camera movement. I'd love a detailed video on how to use Topaz Video AI. Not only the program but camera settings that are required for a good result later in post with Topaz. Especially the frame interpolation would be interesting!

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jonas, man that means so much to me, only a pleasure bro! I'm so happy to hear that you found value in my tutorials, it makes all of it so much more worth it. Topaz is pretty simple so I hope to share it with you here. If you want to get the best results with Frame Interpolation, you have to CRANK UP THE SHUTTER. Set your shutter speed as high as possible. Try to shoot wide open with shallow depth of field because an isolated subject is easier to slow down with less info in the background. Use the APOLLO engine on footage shot at 100FPS or higher. Sometimes Apollo will add a weird flicker to the footage which you can take out in post in resolve with DeFlicker (doesn't always work) so then you can try CHRONOS. CHRONOS is great with footage shot at natural frame rates like 24/25 FPS and 50 FPS. It does a great job slowing down 2 x and 4 x (anything more use APOLLO) unless the footage allows it, really depends on what you film. Hope that helps buddy!

    beautiful footage throughout, very impressive! was this sponsored by nanlite? feels like they sent talking points

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks man, much appreciated! Yes indeed, it was sponsored by Nanlite. To be 100% transparent, they gave me 0 talking points, I simply shared from my own experience and they approved it without any changes. As an ambassador I'm always in touch with them about their products and they asked me which light I valued the most... and when I said the 500 II, they asked if I wanted to make a video about it, a win win.

    • @DSLRguide
      @DSLRguide ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jacques_crafford thanks for clarifying! I do think that transparency is always a good move, as a viewer I would have appreciated hearing that the video was sponsored up front, and that they didn't tell you what to say. Sometimes I scale back my enthusiasm for a product in my sponsored videos, in case people think I was paid to say certain phrases, which is weird cos in the end I'm being less honest. I'm sharing this unsolicited advice cos I've definitely made mistakes with sponsored content, and it sucks to lose the trust of viewers after slowly building goodwill.

    • @jacques_crafford
      @jacques_crafford  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DSLRguide thanks man, I really appreciate this feedback. To be honest, it's all new to me, this whole TH-cam thing... so I don't take this advice lightly. What I will do is update the description and mention the sponsor more clearly to avoid any further confusion. People who regularly watch my videos know that I'm partnered with Nanlite so a lot of the footage I used in here came from a sponsored video where I did mention it. I guess the mistake is to assume what your audience knows. Again thanks for the valued input, means a lot!

The lenses you mentioned are DZO Vespid Primes, they are amazing because they have a "look" to them that has some character to it which normal stills lenses don't give you. Finally some words about Zeiss 35mm. I have one and sometimes I think about switching to the 35GM, but the thing that stops me is that Zeiss has more filmic look because of imperfection.
    By the way, GM has even worse focus breathing, which I think in the not acceptable zone for video.

    Awesome brother!! another great one... On a side note, Anyway of setting Auto ISO in the Sony A7IV for video so that Only 800 and 3200 are available? Either automatically or by just pressing one button instead of having to dig through the menus to change ISO? I only use 800 and 3200 99% of the time... Does anybody know if that is possible? Thanks!!! Hope that makes sense? I would like to just click one button to change between 800 and 3200 on my A7IV? IS that possible somehow? Many times on locations I cannot see the monitor very well and cannot see when I need to change to 3200? Thanks

      @brunoriffaldi ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't think it is possible, it's only a feature of the cinema line cameras like the fx3, fx30 etc called cine ei, basically it makes the switch faster

    • @brunoriffaldi
      @brunoriffaldi ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the only think you can do if you really want to switch fast from iso 800 to 3200 it's to save 2 presets on the memory dial of the camera 1 and 2 for example. don't change any other setting, only the iso value

      @@brunoriffaldi Thanks, that is how I have it now but I have Custom 1 24p, Custom 2 60p and Custom 3 120p . I saw a comment on another video someone mentioning they had some set up a quick button that switched between the 2 ISO's but it was an old comment and did not mention how they had done it.. Thanks Until I find another method, I will just change one of my custom dials like that... Bummer is on custom dials you cannot do a custom white balance which is pretty stupid, I wish Sony would fix that... Thanks for responding..

      I totally hear you bro! To be honest I don't know if it's possible and I think CineEI is a way Sony is protecting their Cinema Line. My advice would be to set your ISO button to something that can't easily be adjusted by accident so that when you need to go up to 3200 you can just quickly dial it up without the possibility of ever bumping it?

      @@jacques_crafford Thanks for responding , That is how I have it currently but sometimes in bright conditions I cannot see the ISO and not exactly sure if it is correct. Thanks anyways...

      Haha tell me about it. Fun fact, I made this video 2 weeks ago already (before the A7sIII firmware was announced) and I still recommend the A7sIII but when they announced it last week, I had to re-record that part.
