Yeah I do appreciate the wide view, I’m pretty sure you can set the black magic to switch to the wide view every 30 seconds to a minute. That way you’ll still have it included in the episode
This looks really amazing. I will say, I personally do not find the Rode Podmic to be particularly pleasing to the ear and prefer the DCM6 or DCM3 in that price range. I also love a wide shot and wish it would switch to that more frequently.
I used OBS to switch cameras between speakers automatically with a plug-in that detected the speaker and switched after a .1 second delay and I set a noise floor to account for ambient noise and breathing. It was pretty slick. I didn't use HDMI inputs thoigh, just USB cameras. If I had multiple cameras, I'd use an ATEM or some sort of switchboard, too. For my input, I used a Rodecaster Pro and 4 Pod Mics.
The Blackmagic atem creates a Resolve project that you can adjust in post. I don’t think the files are huge either. For a one and done solution this looks good.
Great tip using MixEffect to auto cut the cameras. Definitely great for a first pass. I would definitely recommend doing a second pass to make sure you capture all the reaction shots and wide shots when needed. But great resource for the first pass. Thanks!
Guys, I want to setup this exact setup you just described in the home podcast studio I'm creating. Will you please explain a more detailed workflow of how to do this? (What plugs in where? What are those app settings you referenced dialing in? etc) The only change from your setup is we are going to be running the 3-4 mics into our Zoom H6 device (since we already have it). SETUP: 3-4 Sony a6400 cameras, 3-4 XLR mics, the Zoom H6 audio interface, going to buy the Atem Mini Pro + any other necessary gear (hopefully on black friday). If you could help me understand all this I would be supremely grateful... Thank you!
Mind blown. Thanks guys. Have an ATEM Mini Pro ISO and MixEffect Pro, but didn't know it could do this, nor did we have a need for it. Was just thinking about Descript & other programs ability to auto-cut multicam footage, but that's a lot of storage. Great solution! Ooh. BTW: You list the soft box but not the actual light in your Amazon list.
Yes of course, the Atem Mini has an hdmi out for monitoring and it displays all camera feeds in your typical switcher layout. The Atem also has a USB-C output where I use a simple SD card reader and SD card to record the final output.
this may be a silly question, So you have to have the audio runnning to the cameras to be able to auto switch ? you can't just have the audio coming into atem with 3.5 from an audio board correct ? or can you?
With the video follows audio function (VFA) it’s all based on “if this then that” logic. I have one mic to L channel and one mic to R channel. Based on the db, it will switch between cameras based on the logic I setup. It should be possible with any type of input as long as you have discreet channels for each speaker.
ty for the reply! dang, im still trying to put all the pieces together in my head for it. i'm gonna need a full break down video hah! appreciate you. I'm thinking the way mine is setup it wont work based on 1 audio source coming in from a rode caster into the atem. hmmm @@_tographer
Yeah that’s one of the reasons I don’t use a traditional audio board or mixer for this setup. Of course it all depends on how many mics you’re running and how many channels you’re feeding to the Atem.
I’m sure there is but I’ve never been happy with the solutions running multiple cameras into a computer. It CAN be done with devices like the HDMI to USB sticks like the ones from Elgato or other video cards, however the expense just to convert HDMI to USB equals about the same cost as one of these Atem boards which for me have a lot of extra features that I want. This was the simplest setup that worked best for my needs but if you prefer OBS, I’m sure there’s probably a way to do it.
@@_tographer Sold both of my Atem mini (pro and ISO) :-/ I use a dedicated m1 mac mini, and FX30 has usbc video and XLR(very important). The Atems would have been more useful to me if I could at least preview the recorded media without disconnecting. No playback, that is weird. too bad. Looks like a great thing you guys have there.
Again not quite as simple to implement, might be possible but I don’t know an easy way to do that with this setup. I agree it could always be better but sometimes “perfect is the enemy of good” - this setup works well and is good enough for my needs.
I was just looking at this same App and after watching your podcast, Its a must have for the new channel I'm starting. Quick Q: (btw: I edit on FCP and Premier) ok so can you run down the following settings your using, please know you guys are much younger and still have the smooth natural skin, I'm an older wolf and are looking to NOT replicate a beauty look but at least make my skin tones much more smooth and buttery please: Kelvin on both Camera and Light/s:_____ ISO:_____ Fstop:_____FPS:_____Light distance from talent and light intensity:______ Color Tone: if any______ Picture Profile (if any) and what type of lens. Thanks guys...Thumbs up and got yourself a new Sub!!!
Amazing guys! Thank you 🙏 For our podcast I have shure mic’s going into the rode caster pro. How would I set up the Atem Mini Pro and Rodecaster pro using the audio follows video function?
Hard to say exactly, we don’t use a soundboard because the Atem needs separate audio channels to know who is speaking. But I’m sure there is a way to do it, you just might need to feed redundant lines to the Atem.
Kind of…the mics are going to a camera (L/R) and that camera sends audio over HDMI to the Atem. In the Atem software you can grab those L/R audio tracks and base your settings off of those. If you use a board and send a mix down, the Atem will only have 1 track of audio and it won’t be able to differentiate speakers. I have another video on the channel that details this setup with more specifics.
The camera was not matching the person talking in many ocacions. Sometimes it would switch to the person not talking. So, i'd say that either you're lying, or the app didnt work as it meant to. 🤔
@@albadriali Well, the video doesnt match what the initial statement is about. That is false information provided cause then we are not able to see if the application works as it is meant to since you went for the "best look/angle" instead of the real one.
@capionthegreat4582 The point of the video was to show that the AI software keep the camera of the person talking. This wasnt about anything else. If the angle is not the person talking, then this Software is a scam, or it is not ready to be released.
Been wondering how to do this without having someone manually sat switching. Massive help thanks guys!
Happy to help!
I'm an autopod user, and its amazing.

@_tographer it saved me so much time on editing it was amazing 👏
Can you do a breakdown of how everything is hooked up and how the app works? This is dope!
Yes definitely

Yes, I believe that is on the ISO models. This board is the even cheaper one without that option.
This is great! Nice transitions

I use a Streamdeck foot pedal to switch while recording my show.
Smart!
This is looking good! What camera + Lenses are you shooting on? What would one take for the close-up and what lense for wideangle?
Thanks for the info I love this but would it work with a four mic setup
It could if each mic has its own channel on the board
Was it said what kind of cameras were used here?

Pop filters are needed with those microphones
I promised no editing not no distortion 😆
LOve this. Where is the video file being recorded to? Do you have monitors to see what's being recorded?

couldnt a tiny bit of code in OBS switch your camera to the loudest microphone?
Yes and it works great.
Im a bigger, but how i can make it colored like yours should I use LUT?
Can you use MixEffect pro with OBS to achieve this? 🤔
I don’t think so
Awesome video guys, this helps a lot, so thanks you so much, but you should definitely be using additional popfilters in front of your mics, ...
very cool
would this work for live streaming as well?

There is no ATEM mini/extreme 4k. They are only 1080p.
does the Atem mini pro iso have this automated feature? Or is it just the app you mentioned?
The app is what allows you to automate the atem boards

this is awesome but you should have it switch to wide when you’re both talking rather than when no one’s talking
