    This video demonstrates the process for setting remote gains on your DJI Naza using a Turnigy 9X transmitter. One thing that I learned during this process is the difference between basic and attitude gains. I will try to explain to the best of my understanding below....because I feel it's important :)
    Basic gains: these are the gains that apply to your multirotor as it hovers and tries to keep stable. They may be influenced by wind conditions and the environment in general. You'll notice as you kick these up your multirotor will begin to oscillate violently with no stick inputs.
    Attitude gains: these gains seem to be what are impacted by stick movements. In the case of this video I'm setting pitch and roll. You'll notice that as you adjust these your multirotor will be come more responsive as you dial these up. These will also give you more/less pitch and roll angle depending on how you have them set.
    I hope that makes sense and that the video is useful. Please feel free to post any questions or comments below.

    Dennis. I can't believe how easy your videos make it to set this stuff up .. I just did the gains in a few min's when watching. I know it's not hard, but when I watched all the other ones they make it soooo complicated. you definitively have a unique ability to make this stuff easy to understand. Please keep it up.

    I appreciate those gain settings. I may give those a try and see how they compare with what I have now. Glad to hear that you got it working well in strong wind. That's very reassuring to hear. The Naza is an incredible FC.

    Yestoday I made one of my perfect fly with GoPro (with case on), 2 5000mAh Lipo , and home made landing gear..
    I change a little, those settings, and will remain like that (my shame. I forget the input, but I will come back to post them) because are just perfect.
    I will try to put the video up.
    Anyway... useful video, because people can have a idea to start for.
    Indeed ..the Naza is great.

    Thank you for the feedback. Glad to hear it was of some use. I know what you mean about DJI. I've talked to several people about their support and while they have a great product their support leaves much to be desired. After I get through this KK2 build I'm planning on focusing on APM 2.5 for a while. I'm really impressed with APM's capabilities and am looking forward to it. Take care.

    Nice video.
    I reconfurated my F550 Naza (position , radio etc.) and with the first setup, was not anymore stable.
    So ... now , i just come from the fly field testing, and work almost perfect with :
    145 /145/ 130/145
    150/150
    Strong wind and small rain.
    Thank You.

    Great news Dennis. I'm so frustrated I was thinking about getting another radio. Yes, I would like CL & HL along with the other modes...GPS, Attitude, Manual and fail safe. Just like the Phantom radio. I set up the Turnigy like you showed in the video with the right three position switch with Atti, GPS, and Manual then Fail safe on the gear switch when I'm in Atti or GPS (pos. 1 &2) if that makes sense. I do use CL and HL on the phantom a
    lot, so I'm missing it on the F550. Thanks again.

    I am pretty happy with the 8J. Used also x1 and x2 channels for at flight gain adjustments. The 8J offers to display % changes on screen (DT5&6 on home screen ) while adjusting. For all gain tests I programmed a separate model w/ dif. button assignments.
    BTW, to complete the gain balancing of all parameters, after getting the basic & att. gain for P&R right, I went ahead and assigned x1/2 for yaw & vertical gain. Once all balanced, switched x1 back 2 gimbal control (VR dial) and x2 to IOC.

    Very nice presentation. Do you find the TBS needs different settings than the F450 because the arms are not symetrical on the Discovery as on the F450, or is it close enough? I find my Discovery ocillates in the roll axis when in fast forward flight.

    Thanks for the positive feedback. Related to flying in Heli mode is that what you use? I was doing that for over a year and just recently switched to Acro mode so I can get the 6 position switch setup. Do you have an idea of some of the things you use in Heli mode that aren't available in Acro mode? I haven't missed out on anything since I switched, but wanted to ask.

    Great understanding of the Naza basic & attitude gains. I was in the same boat as you when I thought basic gains was for manual mode and attitude gains was for attitude mode on the Naza.
    Im still a little bit confused about the vertical gains though, does it affect the speed of your quad going up when you bump up the gains or does it affect the way it comes down?

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @dennisbaldwin
    @dennisbaldwin  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Joe, yes a video will be coming this week after I figure out how to do this. I'm assuming you want CL & HL along with the other modes...GPS, Attitude, etc. Is that correct or do you just want to know how to do CL & HL alone?

    Please help . . Followed all of your videos so far - great help - they are excellent . . Got a problem with this one getting the X1 and X2 to work . . I set the turnigy 9x channels 7 and 8 to "HOV PIT" and "HOV THR" . . go back but the knobs don't work !! On the turnigy in the "Display" nothing is happening. there is no output . . Is there another setting in the Tx that is preventing this to function? I have tried puttting other functions on 7 & 8 but none seem to show in the "Display".

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Do you know what "flight" mode you're in on your T9X? This would be plane, heli, or acro. I've noticed that sometimes depending on which mode you're in dictates which channels work.

  • @zaktoman
    @zaktoman 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, I know for the Futaba 8J you shouldn't use Heli mode, but the standard ACRO plane mode for a multirotors. The DJI Naza does all brainwork and needs no swashplate or throttle curve adjustments of a heli mode, just standard servo commands over 8 channels.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. I recommend using the default gains to get started. They will probably be too low but you can get a feel for them. Then you can dial them up a bit to match the size of your frame. Here is a video that shows how you can adjust the gains while flying:

  • @fredouille2002fr

    it is a bit unclear, when it was osciliating it was too low gain ? I'm fighting a big multi rotor.. which is osciliating but a slower frequency... I was today a 250% of gain (3Kg) machine.. I did a strong right movement and let return to center and it fliped over and crashed :(

    Hi Dennis . . Just checked on a "clean" new model, and I can configure the channels 7 & 8 the way you say . All good . . But back on my Quad set up in Heli mode there is obviously some conflict with all the mixing I have been doing . . eg . . I have my 3 way switch configured for the 3 flying modes, and my "Gear" switch configured for the forced fail safe. (All these using your videos!!) There must be a conflict here somewhere . . Hope you can help .

    • @Ingajohn
      @Ingajohn 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dennis Baldwin
      Thanks Dennis for your inputs . . I am in Heli mode. Think the conflict comes from too much mixing here and there!! No problem though . I am using a different "model" select for test flying the Gains using only the 3way Pit settings for GPS, Atti etc, and the Hov Pit and Hov Thr for X1 X2 . . Once I get that right I go back to my other "Model" for flying with the other settings . . Trainer (channels 5&7 for the Fatshark, and forced failsafe on the Gear, etc. . (If you follow me?!?)

    where do you live

  • @sirfrancistube1
    @sirfrancistube1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    you did all of this is manual mode right? not Atti,
    I feel that my quad always tilt to much. in any direction, 100% attitude I might as well set it to 90% just to make my quad tilt in a shallow angle. not to much,, like 45deg just 30deg.. what you think?

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      sir francis I did this in atti mode. That's probably not a bad idea if you don't want to get 100% throw with roll. Another option is to dial the gains way down so that it's a bit more sluggish and therefore your stick movements will react slower. It's whatever you prefer for your flying style, but I definitely recommend starting with lower gains and working your way up to where it's more responsive. Good luck and keep us posted.

  • @zaktoman
    @zaktoman 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not as drastic as the basic settings. It helped to get the responsiveness of vertical adjustments. And the YAW responsiveness. The sweet spot is quite large, I just used the middle setting between too little and too much reaction.. Final results for a Phantom with 9" CF props and T-Motor upgrades Basic @ 185% Atti @ 80% YAW 125%, Vertical 150%.
