NAZA Lite and NAZA V1 GPS Mounting, Configuration, Calibration with Walkera 3 Mode Switch

  • I've been helping a friend with his NAZA Lite build and wanted to share how to setup the GPS. The NAZA flight controller is very stable in Attitude mode without GPS, but when you add GPS Attitude mode you get some pretty good locked in hovering.
    This was setup on his F450 clone and using a Walkera WK-2801 Pro transmitter configured for multiple flight modes. To send the NAZA into GPS calibration mode you have to toggle between GPS and Manual mode 6-10 times. Then you should see the constant yellow LED where you can begin the calibration process.

    Nice job so many people get confused with the GPS positioning input especially on what is positive and negative. Nice to see a video that will educated and clarify the procedure.

    Jay, thanks for the question. It's really tough to say. I'm partial to the APM because I like getting my hands a little dirty and messing around with the software. It take more patience and tuning than the NAZA. If you want waypoints then the NAZA is out of the question and you should go with APM. If you're just looking for something super stable that works out of the box with minimal config, and with GPS, then go with the NAZA. The NAZA Lite is a fairly affordable option.

    Hi Dennis, I have been fighting this Naza for about a month now and got no help from anyone, This video solved my GPS and I just flew it in a 15 to 20 wind and it held. Bounced a lot but I expected that. Thanks Bud, you made my life a lot better.

    Hey Dennis! :)
    I just had come by and give you full props on publishing this video.
    I first saw this video back in February and have configured 3 of my systems several times due to changes.
    I just swapped out my Daya 550 FC with my Bumblebee 550 FC (which I rarely fly anymore) from a Naza-M Lite to a Naza-M.
    Every time I do these now I think, Dennis taught me this, oh yeah! LOL
    So I had to drop by and give you some props after a whole year!!

Have you looked on ebay for a programming device? There's generally a ton of them listed for sale. I'm anxious to hear if a firmware update fixes your issue.

    I just ordered the NAZA M Lite with GPS and I plan to use it with a 6 channel Flysky radio but it doesn't have any three position switches (for Off , HL , and CL ) I have a F550 with DJI DT7 radio and NAZA M V2 GPS Both the switches are three position switches And My Phantom radio is the same with switches . How do I use the Flysky two position switches to use GPG , ATTI , ATTI and OFF , Course lock , Home Lock with only two position switches ? I am building a Tarot 650 sport or Ironman . and want one switch for retracts . The Flysky has 4 two position switches and two knob variable knobs hope I don't need another radio . Like All your Vids regarding the 9x I enjoy & they give me confidence to learn more about programming. ONE Problem I have though with my F450 w/naza lite & gps setup is when im hovering & Yaw a little The Quad Raises Up Say 10 inches or so. It's like I m giving it throttle at the same time Although I m not, I Fly mode 3 So my Yaw IS on the same stick as my throttle. Question is : How do I stop this OR how do I compensate with the 9x from doing this ? Additonal : When yawing , The Raising of the quad Only moves the quad about 10 inches But if I continue to Yaw , After the 10 inches raise, it doesn't raise anymore unless I STOP yawing & then Yaw Again.

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike, that's pretty crazy. Have never seen that happen before. With the 9X there's a display menu that will let you view your sticks in a bar graph. That way you can at least see if the throttle and yaw are linked in any way. Not sure what else to do. Let me think on it some more.

    • @goldenaxe1986
      @goldenaxe1986 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have Looked at the display regard my problem & all is correct, The Only link I have is when I Switch the Gear over,(failsafe) The Pit(ch) moves over a little at the same time. Although this happens It doesn't involve The Yaw. (Additional) : I Do have the program for my Tunringy 9x on File If you would like to have a look at it. I decided to write it out in notepad form.

    do you measure from the top GPS plate to the bottom of the GPS holder or down to the nazs

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to find the CG of your aircraft and then measure from that to the center of the GPS. This explains it:
      wiki.dji.com/en/index.php/Naza-M_Mounting_Location_Setting
      If you're not 100% accurate on the CG you should be okay. As long as you're close enough. Experiment with different distance values and see what works best for you. Good luck!

      Miguel R. I've done the calibration in my garage without a good signal, but that's an interesting question. Since it's mainly the compass that's being calibrated I don't see why it can't be done indoors. Here is a good reference if you haven't seen it already:

    I have a DJI F450 frame, Naza M lite and GPS, Turnigy 30A Esc and Sunnysky X2212-980kv motors. I will use the Phantom SR6 transmitter and the stock Phantom PPM receiver with one antenna. Do I need to calibrate the Esc´s or just set-up the Naza software?

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would always recommend calibrating your ESCs before you do anything. That will give you the full range of throttle with your transmitter.

      No, that's actually a different calibration. I would check out this howto: copter.ardupilot.com/wiki/initial-setup/esc-motor/#Manual_ESC-by-ESC_Calibration Make sure you do that before you do the Command Stick Calibration in the Assistant.

      That's really strange, Charles. I haven't seen that happen before. I would check your throttle input just to make sure everything is working properly. Some transmitters have a PWM output graph to show what signal the throttle sends when you increase it. Let us know what you find out.

      Dennis Baldwin Hey, I resolved it. I figured it was because I upgraded to a 3rd party m8n gps. my gimbal also affected. the entire CG was thrown off and my mounting of GPS offsets had to be changed. changed that and now it holds stably and rth works well.

    When calibrating does the GPS need to lock onto satellites or is that not necessary? before you can calibrate..

    • @dennisbaldwin
      @dennisbaldwin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. You don't need a lock to calibrate the compass. Just make sure you do it where there isn't a bunch of metal or interference. The NAZA will let you know if the calibration is successful with the LED sequence.

    What battery do you use?

      In this video it's a 2200mAh 3S lipo. But for most of my quads now I fly with a 2500 - 3000mA lipo.

    If not done already update to firmware 1.6 . 1.5 is good but 1.6 has fixes in it.
    I have 1.5 in mine as it also controls the gimbal.

      Check this out:

      Apparently NAZA V1 and Lite use the same GPS, but the V2 is different.
