DJI Naza Forced Failsafe Using Turnigy 9X Gear Switch Channel 5 Mix w/ 3 Position Switch

- I posted this based on a request from several subscribers asking how to use the Turnigy 9X gear switch to send the DJI Naza into a forced failsafe mode. This configuration is an extension of my 3 position switch video:
• DJI Naza 3 Flight Mode...
So in addition to attitude, manual, and GPS modes this video show how the gear switch can send the Naza into failsafe mode. Hopefully the video makes sense, but feel free to post a comment if you need any help.
I never even thought about vibes coming off the cables, but seems to make sense. Glad to hear you got your NAZA configured and I hope the setup treats you well! Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for your quick reply Dennis. Yes the main reason I use this is so I only need one cable connected from the receiver. Up until now I have been using APM2.5. It is very susceptible to vibrations. Having only one cable connected reduces the vibrations travelling down the cables. I have now configured my NAZA to use all cables as described in your vid. Again it is very helpful. Thanks for the time you spent on creating these. I am now up and flying using the exact configuration you use.
Excellent video Dennis. Just bought a Naza V2 w/GPS to hook up to a TBS Disco (due soon) and your instructions were invaluable, sir. Managed to get the modes working via the 3 way 9x switch. The gear switch only works for any 2 of the 3 modes (pro123 mix 3 is different from mix 1,2), but it's not a show stopper. The only downside appears to be the fact that the stock 9x doesn't support failsafe out of the box so I may decide to flash my firmware or take the plunge and go for a Taranis (unless I stumble upon a workaround). I'm UK-based but work for a major chip manufacturer in Austin, so I'd be happy to buy you a few beers on 6th Street if I'm in town soon. Thx again!
Thanks for the suggestion. I've received several requests for such a video and I'm in the middle of a new NAZA build. I'll see if I can do this setup in conjunction with my build.
Thanks for following up. I just got my FrSky TX/RX configured and ready to go on my Naza so I'll do a failsafe vid soon. But one thing I just realized is that you're asking about RTH. I opted not to get the Naza w/ GPS and am running the APM 2.5 instead. So my idea for a failsafe vid with Naza was to demonstrate a loss of signal between the TX/RX by turning off the TX. Then hopefully the quad would hover at the same altitude. If you want RTH I'm not going to be able to demonstrate that.
Dennis amazing tutorial yet again, Turnigy should be paying you for these. Would'nt have configured my Naza without you generously sharing your knowledge
Thank you very much for joining. We're glad to have you over there.
Glad to have you on board!
Yes, you can definitely set the switch up with a servo. You just need to set the endpoints for each toggle mode of the switch. This will send the appropriate PWM signal to your servo and hopefully tell it how far to rotate. I hope to see you get this up and running. Sounds like a cool use of the switch!
Hi Dennis. Thanks a lot for your comments. Sorry for not being more precise.
I followed all your steps in your video here..great video.. and the failsafe (return home) works perfectly, with landing home less than a meter from take off spot.
But what took me on surprise was that the TBS just landed where it was when the battery (on the quad) was low. Contolled, but a bit hard. So what I ment to ask was if it is possible to configure the naza to return home when the quad battery is getting low.
I was thinking of getting an Optimus flight controller, and the setup assistant is almost identical to the NAZA. I'm hoping that your vids will act similarly in the Optimus software :) . Thanks again for all the dedication you put into these vides, they've been immensely helpful.
Thank you...and good question. It's been a long time since I flew with a Spektrum, but generally the failsafe feature is a function of your receiver and not your TX. I used to fly with an AR6000 receiver and from their product page "Smart failsafe prevents motor startup if TX is off and gives low throttle if signal is lost" Google a bit and you should be able to figure this out. It's generally pretty easy to setup with your receiver. Good luck.
Derek, thanks for joining Garage Pilots and I hope we can get you up and running over there. I know we can make it happen!
You're welcome. I just learned that you don't need to worry about the throttle percentage with newer versions of the NAZA firmware. I just recommend making sure it's set to > 10% just because that could accidentally trigger the throttle cutoff. You need to make sure your receiver supports failsafe. The standard Turnigy 9X receiver does not support it. That's one of the reasons I upgraded to the FrSky setup.
@dennis Baldwin no problem! Tinkering and figuring it out yourself is probably the best option anyway. And I DID finally figure it all out by moving some things around. Failsafes work, rth, upgraded to new firmware and we are rocking! This is so much fun!
Mr. McCabe Glad to hear that and thanks for sharing.
Great to hear and now I look forward to seeing some FPV vids on your channel :)
Thank you for the feedback. I'm glad the vids are helping :) Let me know what you find out about the Optimus software assistant. I've read lots about this FC being nearly identical to the NAZA, don't have any experience with it. Good luck with your setup.
Awesome tip and that's very good to know. Will check out your vid shortly and I appreciate you sharing the info!
Thank you for the feedback and glad you got it figured out. I'm not sure why your Mix 3 is different but perhaps you're flying in a different mode? Acro vs Heli? Just a thought. Anyway, I appreciate the comment and hope this helped.
Justin, thanks for the kind words. No worries at all. If you're ever in Austin, TX then we'll grab that beer. Let me know if you run into any problems with the setup.
Thank you for the feedback. It's much appreciated.
Thank you. I don't have a er9x flash at the moment, but if I do upgrade I'll definitely post some info.
Awesome videos and very clear. I'm a beginner with less than 20 minutes of flight experience :-) but now I know how to configure my stuff when I receive the turnigy 9ch transmitter. Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear you're just getting started. I can promise you this hobby will be more rewarding than you can ever imagine :)
Thank you Eugene. I appreciate the feedback. I'm not sure if you have the stock T9X receiver, but that was a problem for me. What I had to do is upgrade to FrSky and then I was able to trigger failsafe properly. I have a video titled "DJI Naza Failsafe Without GPS - Part 2 w/ FrSky Turnigy 9X" that walks you through the process. Sorry, but I don't believe there's a way to do it with the stock setup.
That's a great question and right now I don't know of a way to do this. The problem I see with this is let's say you're far away from the launch location and start to run low on battery. The quad will try to RTL and potentially kill the battery as well as the quad. Now if you're within range and have proper thresholds setup then this would be a nice feature. Anyway, I don't think this is currently possible but will see if I can dig anything up.
Hi Chris, I originally used my TX in Heli mode but recently switched to Acro. I needed to setup 6 flight modes on my APM 2.5 and was unable to do so in Heli mode. That's when I decided to give Acro a try. There's no reason that I used Heli mode other than that's what I felt made sense when I was getting started.
Hey Dennis, thanks for your reply. I was hoping as I'm new to Quad copters, if I felt that I was getting out of control I could flick the system to Failsafe to stop copter until I'm ready to take over again, or just have it return home on it's own. I understand that if the Trunigy or FlyShy TX goes dead for what ever reason, the NAZA system will not default to failsafe mode anyway.
Thanks
Loved the video Dennis. Appreciate the effort. Do you think that you could post one more? Naza Failsafe when the transmitter signal is lost?
If you're going to fly in atti mode with no intent of switching to manual then I don't see any reason why you'd need to have it programmed on your switch. You can always reprogram it later once you decide you need manual mode. Glad to hear you got it going.
Thanks. I'm experimenting with this and should have a video in a day or two...if I get it working of course :) Will let you know when it's ready.
I believe they represent percentages. But whatever the actual number represents, they are values that correspond with PWMs that are sent by the switch. So the uprate refers to the value that is sent when the switch is in the up position and the downrate refers to the value that is sent when the switch is in the down position. Hope that makes sense.
Thankyou for the videos. This method works great for a switch activation,
For failsafe radio signal loss program fail safe state on your radio with the failsafe switch flipped in and in att or gps mode at 50% throttle. Frsky very easy put the radio at 50% throttle in gps mode flip the failsafe switch then push the Failsafe button on the frysky receiver reboot your done. whenever radio is off or loses signal it goes into fail safe gps mode. I tested this in my last video it works GREAT
That's a great tip. Was not aware of that because I'm not flying with GPS yet. I opted for the APM 2.5 when I decided to get a FC with GPS. But thanks for the info.
Michael, sure thing. Let me see what I can do and thanks for the feedback.
Yeah I saw that, but it looks like the guys in the community are trying to help out. Hopefully you get it resolved soon.
Romans, you're very welcome. Thanks for watching.
Your a legend... This is exactly what i been trying to work out all weekend. wish i seen this video then.. Thanks :)
Thanks so much :) Just learning and sharing as I go. Take care.
I seem to have the same problem. Channel 5 is empty on my receiver end. Set up the program mix per your instructions, but when I flick the switch nothing happens. I've tried a few different mixes, but nada. I'm beginning to think my switch is broken.
Thanks for your 3-way switch explanation though. It's been very helpful.
Hi Dennis! Great help, fantastic straight forward manual, just one thing, mix3 is different - i got a strange curve to figure out,... I did it, but took some time ;) all the best!
Dennis, I have the U port going to ch 6 and set up w Pit Trim. I then have the pitch curve set to 3 different spots based on the 3 way switch. I currently have X1 wired to ch. 7 and set to hov thro knob (because I was doing remote gain stuff). I have 8 set to hov pitch, (trying to wire gimbal tilt) I set the gear switch to ch.5 and set the mix 1 to master gear and slave pit. have dnrate set at 15 and sw to nor. leaving 3 way switch in nor position, I get no change when I flick gear.
your videos are pefect! wanted to get this remote to control many things i have and want to build and being that it can now work for my DJI Im very happy :D
+Casey Vitti Thanks for the feedback.
A few weeks ago I left my T9X on and did hear it beeping. I don't recall what the voltage was at the time, but I know it does have a low voltage alarm. Now I don't know if this applies to AA batteries, but I don't see why it wouldn't. With AAs you don't have to worry as much about discharging as with lipos. My original lipo drained so much that I had to rig my T9X with AAs until my new battery came in.
Hi Dennis, Thanks for the help with the 9x it helped me heaps, I was trying to find out if the 9x transmitter has a low voltage warning for the TX batteries, im running just AA Batteries in it.
Alan, thanks for the feedback. Does anything happen to the U slider when you flip the gear switch? Just trying to get a little more info so I can help you troubleshoot.
Good job, my friend.
Dennis. Thanks for your videos! They are great. I'm trying to set up my flysky 9x with my dji naza and am having some problems. I've got the ch 6 from the Rx heading into the U port on the Naza and on the radio, I've got ch 6 set to the gear switch. When I fire up the assistant software, however, it has the U channel bound to the throttle - i.e., when I move the throttle lever, both throttle and U move. Any ideas would be a big help. Thanks!
Alan, no problem at all. Can you tell me how you have your RX wired to your NAZA and how your T9X is configured to use the switch? What channel have you assigned to your gear switch and what specifically are you seeing?
I think your up rate will vary so what you'll want to do is have the Naza connected to your computer and the assistant software running so you can watch the slider change to the appropriate location (Fail Safe) when you modify your up rate. Also, you want Channel 6 connected to U port and nothing connected to Channel 5. Channel 5 will be configured via mixing and ultimately impacts Channel 6. You'll need to setup mixing of your gear switch for each mode of your 3 way switch (NOR, ID1, ID2).
Dennis. I can't seem to find any of your videos that refer to CL and HL flight modes wired to Chanel x2. Can you please repost the links. I'm sorry to ask again, but your videos have been the most helpful ones for me to get off the ground with this 9x, naza light and F550 setup. Thanks again for your help.
Yes I use the 9X TX/RX with my Naza and it works great. I've posted several vids that show how to configure it so if you do end up getting one let me know if you have any questions. Good luck.
Thank You for all yours video...BIG HELP !
I'll have to look into this. I haven't done this yet so I'll see what I can find out. I will let you know.
Thank you for your wise advices!
I'd like to ask you two questions:
1) How is it possible to configure failsafe for GPS mode using the same gear switch?
I tried with MIX3 as for MIX1 or 2 but it's different and it don't works.
2) When I turn off my Turnigy 9X, Naza controller don't move on failsafe and my DJI F450 don't land. (I have actually no GPS).
How do I configure Turnigy 9X (V2 firmware and 8 chanel 9X8C-V2 receiver)?
Thank you for your help!
Hi Dennis, thanks for your videos, I learn a lot of thing :-) I tried to configure my radio with your recommandations but I failed. So, could u tell me : In the ProgMix1, the value of UpRate (35) is always the same or it depends of my configuration (NOR Value for example) ?
Other question : do u connect "U" in the Channel 5 in this case ?
Hello. Thanks for the videos. They are a big help. I have a Naza m lite and a turnigy 9x for my f550 kit. I've watched both of your videos to set up the three position switch and the channel 5 for the fail safe. Can you please explain how to now setup CL And HL like my stock phantom's left three way switch also ?
Dennis, thank you for your videos ! such a huge help to me. Are there any pros/cons for using F450 naza with a 9x in heli or acro mode?
I originally flew in heli mode but switched to acro to get 6 flight modes working with my APM flight controller. Other than menu options being a bit different I haven't noticed any difference.
Have you started with a clean profile on your T9X? I've helped a few others that have existing model profiles setup and that's caused some problems. Also, have you ever been able to configure your gear switch on the T9X without mixing?
Very Nice and helpful video. Just one question, what is the "Uprate" and "downrate" and how do i determine it? Thanks!
If you click on "Show more" in the description of this video there will be a link to a 3 mode switch setup. This link will take you to a vid where I show how to configure the switch. Start at the 3 minute mark and watch as I discuss setting your L, 1, 2, 3, & H values to the same value. This will create a flat line that will prevent your throttle from altering its value. All values will be static. Hope that makes sense and let me know if you continue to have problems. Good luck.
Thanks for your video...You help me a lot! I still have one big question - In Your video i can see how slider moving to " fail save" position, BUT it not enough ,same time MUST go THR slider to 55% position (and my copter returning home with middle position THR )??? And like I understand with standard Turnigy TGY 9X V2 with PPM modulation "Fail save" channels not working( when TX OFF , DJI Ass not show.55% THR)???
Yes, that's correct. Once you flip into Failsafe the NAZA autopilot takes over and basically ignores any stick commands. You can always toggle out of RTL but if you don't then the NAZA will know what to do to get you home regardless of what you see in the Assistant. That's been my experience at least.
Chris, I'm sorry but I've never worked with PPM before. Are you using it because it simplifies your wiring setup? Just curious as to why you chose PPM. I'll see what I can find out this week.
Will be glad to help. I posted a reply to your other comment so please check that out.
Hello,
Thank you very much because you are very clear to explain.
I did everything same you for 3 position mode and this work perfectly.
But, I don't know why, after following your video step by step for "failsafe with GEAR", nothing move in any position of pit on naza when change GEAR position.
I have to say "maybe important" I'm using FlySky FS-TH9X.
Thanks.
Hi there. I'm not sure about the FlySky TX but would expect it to be fairly similar. I have a video that I'm posting today that discusses the main difference between ACRO and HELI mode for the 3 position switch on the Turnigy 9X. Maybe it will help you out. Thanks for watching.
It would be great if you could show some turnigy 9x with er9x setting as well. Very informative video.
great video, works great .... But wondered how he would run the Fail-Safe for loss of signal. Any idea?
Also just signed up at Garage Pilots. Thanks!
Dennis - Thanks again for the videos. I recently upgraded to the gps and am having some trouble. No problem setting the three way switch to different flight modes, but when I try to add the gear switch, I get nothing. Set it up exactly as you have in this video. Any ideas as to what I could be doing wrong? I have flysky.
Dennis, thanks so much for these instructions. Works great. However, I can't figure out how to make mix-3 work for the third flight mode to go to failsafe. Any pointers for this one?
mikeglamrc It's hard to say without seeing your setup. I would continue to mess with your offsets and endpoints to see if you can make it work. Sorry I can't be of more assistance, but hope you get it figured out.
Thanks. Hope it helped.
Just so I understand are you asking how you'd use a toggle switch to turn your LEDs on and off? Thanks for the feedback on my vids. Glad they're helpful.
Great work Dennis, but what about if the signal is lost? How the failsafe operation will be activated?? Any process on this?
thank you so much. now i also understand what that Prog123 in my turnigy 9x
+Riki Risnandar No problem. Glad it helped.
Dennis, loving your videos, very informative. How can i correctly setup failsafe on a DX8 using APM 2.5? Thanks!!
What program are you referring to? I'm using the stock firmware to configure this fail safe mode.
Hi Dennis, your videos are so helpful! But i have one question, i've turnigy 9x and i would control leds on my plane with the Turnigy Receiver Controlled Switch.
Well i would put the gear as switch to control it. But i REALLY dont know how! I'm using a Swift II with deltamix, so i use only the stick controls. Recently i've learned how to set throttle hold! but the switch, AWW! Please help me!
Hi. Your videos are great help. I was wondering if you knew how to set failsafe when turnigy 9x is turned off. Mine stays in the mode when turned off. Thanks!
I used this guide more than a year ago for my Naza and it works perfect.
I now want to setup the 9X in another mode for Naze32 flight mode selection and have the gear (failsafe) activate the buzzer.
Can I just use the working Naza profile or do you recommend I make a new one for the new quad?
I also don't know how PPM will effect the entirety of it as compared to my PWN Naza quad.
+olivierhacking Glad to hear you got this working. I definitely recommend a separate profile. I always do that when switching between FCs as I may switch back and want the old profile.
+Dennis Baldwin Ok, thanks. You recommend using Acro Mode instead of Heli, as you do in newer videos?
Hi, gotta say your vids are good, nice clear instruction!!! On this one you say there is no lead, just software setup, would you use a lead to channel 5 to make it work correctly???
Cheers
Ken
Ken, thanks for the comment. If you want to do the setup the way I did in the video then you don't need the servo connector at all. If you're trying to do something different might I suggest you check out www.garagepilots.com and post in our forums? We'll be glad to give you some help.
Dennis Baldwin Hi, thanks for the reply. I'll be doing the conversion on my Ifly 4 this week, just wished I'd got a different frame!!!
I'll post a video if it all works out!!!
Cheers
Ken
Dennis! I am pretty lost right now and need help. I have set up my naza like you, GPS, ATTI and Manual on the three way switch. I have failsafe on channel 5, on gear switch. I am now adding i retractable gear to my F550. I have put them into CH5 on the receiver and it is working when i flip the gear switch. The problem is that it enters the failsafe and i only want the gear to move. Can i program it too some other switch, like the one on the opposite side? Can i make gear go down with failsafe?
Joe, I haven't done anything specific to CL and HL but I've done something for 3 flight modes with Naza and you could adapt that. I plan on doing a vid soon that shows 6 flight modes including CL and HL, but will be a week or two. Let me know if you have any problems adapting my 3 flight modes video if you give it a try. The video is titled "DJI Naza 3 Flight Modes (Attitude, Manual, and GPS) w/ Turnigy 9X Transmitter and 3 Position Switch"
Dennis, you've very helpful! I've put together a HK Bumblebee quad with NAZA Lite.
I've got the Flysky 2.4 8 ch ghz tx/rx and thought they are the same as the Turnigy.
I followed your vid and tried to set up the "forced RTH". For some reason it just won't work! Is it possible to configure the forced RTH on Flysky tx/rx?
I would think it's possible but haven't used the FlySky before. If you have problems perhaps someone at www.garagepilots.com can help out.
Thanks, maybe you could make another video on how to use IOC and altitude hold using a switch.
Cheers
Thanks again for prompt reply dennis..
Hi Dennis.
I am confusing a little bit. When i fly my quad, i setup my Tx at Airplane mode. If i choose Heli mode, how can i control each channel like Ail, Ele separate? Because in heli mode, when we move throttle stick, 3 servo move together at the same time. Please teach e. Thank you Sir. Regard!
So as I understand it. The naza can be put into home return via the failsafe gear switch.
But will it also work as the phantom.
I mean does the naza in a F450 returns when it has lost the signal from the Turnigy x9?
Dennis, I have setup my system like this and have the three position switch working for GPS, Attitude, and Manual modes. I also have have the gear switch enabling failsafe. I have the X2 channel of Naza being controlled by the Pitch trim knob for camera tilt for my Tarot.... I have one thing I cannot work out as I don't really understand the 9x yet: I want to enable Course lock for when my quad goes out of site or I can;t see the orientation. The only switch left is the throttle cut (i think). Can you enable this for X1 and say Channel 7 on the Turnigy? Thanks for any help you can give. Love your videos, very helpful to someone like me.
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't been able to figure this out with the stock Turnigy 9X firmware. I'm pretty sure it's possible with er9X and OpenTX. I'd have to say if you have failsafe setup then that's definitely the ideal scenario for when you lose orientation. The IOC stuff may help too, but I've never used it. I know this can be setup using the Taranis. If you see my most recent video here FrSky Taranis and X8R Receiver SBUS Setup w/ NAZA Flight Controller I talk about it. If you ever think about upgrading definitely check out the Taranis. It's pretty amazing. Take care.
Dennis Baldwin I managed to get it all going now, so I have the failsafe on gear, the pitch trim able to tilt the Tarot gimbal, the three way switch in GPS, ATT, and manual modes, and I finally got the throttle cut switch configured to give me Autopilot home lock. The issue turned out to be I had plugged the receiver ch7 signal wire on the wrong pin on the Naza Aux channel! Duh. Also had to max out the switch limits for the AUX channel (to 120% either end) to get it to engage the home lock. Yippee. Thanks for your help as I couldn't have done it without your videos on the standard Turnigy 9x.
Yes, you definitely can. My only advice is you probably want to keep it somewhat out of the way. It's not something you probably want to toggle like you would a flight mode :)
Dennis you are a Super MAN :) WOW thanks very much for this video, Big help.
how can I show my gratitude? If I'm ever in the states, I have to shout you a beer and a steak meal:)
It is possible, i had it on gear switch, and when powered off radio, naza went into f/s, but i don't know how it was set - now I have FrSky and there isn't really any point to stick to the stock reciver
I hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any more questions.
THANK YOU!!!!! You saved me from the biggest headache ever. BEEEP BEEEPP BEEEEP BEEEEEEEEP
Ha. I know the beep beep beep all too well. Glad it helped.
Dennis Baldwin I've turned the beep off. It's too annoying.
No, nothing happened to the U slider when I flipped the gear switch. I finally scrapped the gear switch and set the channel to the 3 way toggle Aux 3 switch. It now appears to be working fine. BTW, is there really any reason to have manual mode set if I plan to fly pretty exclusively in ATTI?
hi Dennis!
You truly are the man. Thanks so much for your videos, straight to the point. I just moved from the MWC to Naza Lite GPS and I also use a 9x radio, so I am setting it all up with your help. After getting the three mode switch working just like yours I went for the forced fail-safe on this video but my 9x does not do what yours do. I follow the videos to the T but my gear switch does nothing. I even spent lots of time going thru every number on the uprate, downrate...
but nothing. Any ideas? I might have to upgrade to the flysky module like you soon... tks.
Thanks so much for the kind words. What channel do you have the gear switch configured to work with? Also, what flight mode are you in (HELI or ACRO)? I'll see what I can help you find out. Take care.
HeyDennis! tks for the comment. Like I mentioned before I just followed your directions to the T. Gear switch conf. on channel 5 (not connected). I also have the TX conf. on HELI, just like your directions. The one thing I didn't mention was that my Tx is the FlySky TH-9x, which I assume is exactly the same as the Turnigy. After a few tests I am about to give up on the Naza failsafe totally, as it makes my quad descend almost every time I test fly. It will not allow me to set a voltage number under 10v. Previously when I had the MWC my buzzer would go off upon heavy throttle when I was towards the end of charge, just to quiet down after lifting throttle and recovering charge. It seems the Naza engages the descend failsafe at the very first sign of low voltage taking away my control.
tks!!! All I want to do is set it all up robust and reliable and go film some snowboarding! at least my MWC didn't have a mind of it's own ...:)
aurisnow I'm not sure about the FlySky being identical to the Turnigy 9X. I've heard that it is but I also recall others having problems with this setup. I'll see if I can find anything out. Regarding the Failsafe descent with the NAZA perhaps you should only setup the first level protection. I believe that just flashes the read LED and doesn't do that auto-descent. I think that only happens at the second level protection. Whatever you do be careful and don't lose your quad :) I really enjoy the simplicity of the MWC.
I don't see how to set up only first level... I bought the NAZA Lite with GPS and the firmware is the v1.0. Should I try to upgrade the firmware? It tells me it is up to date... tks
aurisnow I think what you can do is set it really low so that there's no way it can trigger...unless of course you drain your battery way down :) BTW I don't think you can update the NAZA Lite firmware. From what I've read the firmware is fixed.
G`day mate. just wandering, you use heli mode. is this setting for multi rotors? becuase every other videos ive watched for setting up quads tell you to use acro mode, im only new to this and having no luck getting in the air, i have kk2, eagle n6v2, now dji naza with gps. id love any help.
Also, should the configuration be the same if I am using a Frsky with PPM (only one cable between the RX and MC). I can't figure out how to set the TX up so I can switch between GPS, ACRO, Failsafe and Manual mode. Thanks
You know, that's a good question. I just defaulted to Heli mode because it had everything I needed regarding options, but have never tried acro mode. I think either way you should definitely be able to get in the air. What specific problem are you having and may I suggest checking out garagepilots . com? You can sign up and post any questions over there. There are a lot of guys, including myself, that will be glad to help you get in the air. Best of luck.
Hello Dennis. Using this tuturial, do you think I can put a micro failsafe (used in cars) on the u channel and configure it to activate the failsafe switch when signal lost on a stock turnigy 9x rx? I saw a few videos on youtube with this but non replied to me there...
Yes, this works. First you set up a switch for forced failsafe, as in Denis' video. Then connect a nitro failsafe unit (I have a Hanger 9 failsafe) in between your receiver and your naza fc on your failsafe flite mode channel. It has a male servo connecter on one end and a female on the other end so it will connect in line. The nitro failsafe has a set button. Turn on the model and the tx, flip the forced failsafe switch and then press the set button on the nitro failsafe unit. It will now remember the pulse for the forced failsafe, and when the rx loses connection with the tx, the failsafe unit will trigger failsafe on the naza and either land, or return to launch, depending on how you have it set up in naza assistant. I am using this method until I upgrade the tx and rx with a module that has built in failsafe. Or until I get a taranis.
Hey Dennis, I tried everything I can think of and I still can't get it to force failsafe. Is there any other settings you used and forgot to mention? Some one else on YOU TUBE reversed the gear switch and messed with the end points, but his settings didn't help me. I also couldn't calibrate my GPS unless I had the 3p switch set to GPS, ATTI and Manual mode. If I dropped Manual mode in favor of fail safe I can't get the GPS into calibration mode, I'm thinking i need Failsafe, cause I'm new this.
please how can i make the three position switch on my PIXHAWK 2.4.8 with a TURNIGY 9X.
