출생: 2013년 1월18일
촬영 당시 이 오랑우탄 어미의 건강상태로 인해 인공포육실에서 인공포육중이었습니다.
- 오랑우탄은 숲의살람 이라는 뜻을 가지고 있다네요.
임신은 244일간 오랑우탄의 수명은 약 30년 정도 라고 합니다.

The Pin for this says "Cute Baby Orangutan Abandoned by its Mother". Nah. Orang moms never just abandon their babies. The mothers are killed during the clearing of forests for palm plantations and the babies are taken for pets. That is the 9 out of 10 scenario. This baby does not look to be in a rehab sanctuary. It looks to be in some sort of zoo type place. Not enough information here. I follow Orang Sanctuaries where the babies get hands on care 24/7 just like with a mother. The carers rotate so the baby doesn't get attached to ONE. They are raised communally so they are socialized to their own kind. They are taught what they need to know to survive in the wild and are eventually released to safe forest. But the palm plantations are decimating the habitat and the logging is both legal and illegal. Both the Bornean and Sumatran Orangs are now endangered. Tragic. They are beautiful, intelligent, gentle apes. Some of the comments below mystify me. Either they are commenters who are just trying to stir the pot or they honestly believe in their astounding ignorance.

Im happy to see this cute baby but sad at the same time.. You have no idea how our people treat orangutan badly, but thanks to animal lovers organization those cuties and some of the adult orangutan in Indonesia could be rescued. Every living thing deserve the best :* please live happily baby ♡♡

Dead. ANYTIME you see an orangutan without a mum, you can be sure the mother either rejected him some time after birth, or she died, because you literally have to kill her to get the baby away from her. The noise can be attributed to it being an observing nursery, which answers your last question. He's more-than-likely in quarantine which is standard practice for any rescued orphan, and because he's so young, needs 24-hour care up until at least the age of a year. And at this young age, they're usually not introduced to other orphans. They wait at least until they're old enough to begin forest school--the process of teaching them basic survival skills like tree-climbing, nest-building and foraging for food-- so they can eventually be reased back into the wild, or at least some sort of protected sanctuary. In the wild, orangutans are extremely solitary. Because the young remain with their mums until between the ages of 7-9, they spend all that time in the tops of trees, foraging for food. And because food is so scarce, they are forced to travel alone; in groups, and there wouldn't be enough and none of them would survive. This is why it always amazes me that the orphans at rehabilitation centres like Ny'aru Mentang in Borneo and Sepilok in Sumatra never seem to have trouble adjusting when put in groups of other orangutans. They play, eat, sleep and even cling to one another when they're scared, alone, depressed or feeling anxiety. They're pretty amazing and sentient beings.

Actually, information since I posted this shows that they're not as solitary as everyone originally thought they were. Whether that is a product of being more habituated than wild now due to their circumstances is a matter of debate.
And yes, obviously, I posted a year ago. I learned that this was a children's zoo in Seoul only a month or so after I posted. That's when I learned that they take the babies from the mums, bottle feed them until they're about 4 months old, then sell them for breeding later on.
And it's *thAn, not thEn when comparing one object to another. "These zoos have different agendas thAn rehab centres." :)
