Rickina is being cared for at the IAR Ketapang Orangutan Rescue Center in West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo). The center is operated by Orangutan Outreach's partners International Animal Rescue.
Rickina was confiscated from a man who claimed that he had encountered a mother orangutan with the baby in the forest, and that the mother was so startled that she abandoned the baby and ran away. The man picked up the baby and in doing so apparently caused a gaping wound on her head with his machete.... A mother orangutan will NEVER leave her infant behind and will fight to the death to protect her baby from aggressors. So what really happened?
Orangutans are critically endangered in the wild because of rapid deforestation and the expansion of palm oil plantations into their rainforest home. If nothing is done to protect them, they will be extinct in just a few years. Visit the Orangutan Outreach website to learn more and make a difference!

The expression on her lil face when her caregiver dangled her from that cable was absolutely priceless. She looked completely amazed. In that moment, she realized that she was an orangutan.
It was so sweet. Absolutely epic.
I can't help but laugh and smile when I look at baby Orangutans! So innocent, intelligent and playful. Then I can't help but think...what are we doing to our planet? Then I stop smiling and start worrying.

I'm so glad you took the diaper off once you brought him outside. It's so refreshing to see a video of primates enjoying themselves not being tortured neglected or abused. Thank you for posting this. I feel like these channels are harder to find than the ones where you see primates walking around upright when it causes them pain and wearing clothes which is a form of neglect.

Just to clarify, when you adopt an orangutan from Orangutan Outreach, the adoption is VIRTUAL! The orangutans are being cared for at rescue centers in Borneo and Sumatra where they will be rehabilitated until they can be released into a safe, secure forest. redapes.org/adopt

Such a young baby, it is so sad that there are so many young orphaned Orangutang's due to human greed and ignorance. You all do a wonderful job taking care of these gentle creatures.
The babies that don't seem to have any fur/hair really get to me. Makes me wonder what has happened to that baby in it's short life.

They are MUCH cuter and sweeter than human babies. They don’t cry and whine all the time, they’re just fluffy, cute, inquisitive and happy.

Watching the babies interact with each other is so adorable. They are so curious and want to learn everything they can.
Its was so cute when the baby orangutan met the others, its just like siblings meeting their new baby sibling after mum returns from the hospital!

Even the toughest animals such as tigers are being hunted and killed by humans and they can't do a single thing to defend themselves. Orangutans look alike and yet if you consistently watch videos of them they each have different features and their personalities are distinct. I especially enjoy the younger ones. The babies are always overload on cuteness.

When the orangutans "graduate" and are released, are they released into safe and/or protected areas? Are they tagged or monitored in some way? I hope their chances of survival are good.

That scar on her head is probably from the Machete that killed her Mother. It's terrible that these beautiful, peaceful beings are being treated like pests when their habitat is being destroyed.

Weird how bonobos are the closest relative, yet baby orangutans look so close to furry little humans.
All i know is orangutans are closer related to humans then chimps yes it is like .1 or .2 percent but it is still closer. It clearly shows in newborn and infant stage.
Their ears are identical to ours. You can't say we didn't share same ancestry.
We’re all great apes actually, so it makes sense, plus look at a hairless chimpanzee and it’s body looks very close to ours
