Their techniques are definitely more advanced as singers, as compared to artists like Siyeon (NO OFFENSE INTENDED, plus I haven't listened much Dreamcatcher so I'm only basing it on the performances in this vid) whose voice sounds strained cause of her mouth opening more horizontally when she belts

As much as I respect Wendy being a top vocalist, my only problem is she doesn't really get to showcase her ability and not many solo. Nothing against red velvet as a group but if SM promote Wendy like Taeyeon she will truly release her full potential
This!!! They need to stop playing safe with her with all these ballads. Her specialty is clearly r&b. She shined so much during the perfect velvet and automatic eras.

she got a solo last year and sm idols have a say in their solo music (except titletracks but they can fight for it). imo wendy prefers songs where she doesn't have to flex her vocals and sm can't do anything about that. plus taeyeon doesn't promote a lot, she was very popular prior to her solo debut

the thing is mamamoo not only have one main vocalist😂 they have four with very different voice that creat magic together. Hwasa and Moonbyul lower register make the other two sound so good when they sing together

@@NotYourSugarBaby Yeah, Mamamoo via Rainbow Bridge doesn't have as strong of a marketing arm. You should start with their older music first. Their live stages and live vocals are amazing. I also would watch them sing live on radio shows. If you like good vocalists, Red Velvet has a huge song library and are next on the list. Purple Kiss is under-loved though they also have strong live vocals. If you are into rock, then Dreamcatcher is a must listen/watch. How those girls sing live and have some of the hardest choreo is beyond belief.
Yes in terms of average talent, Mamamoo > Red Velvet though both groups are at the apex of overall group talent in the entire Kpop scene. MMM's top 2 vocalists are undisputably better than Seulgi, thus pulling their average higher than RV, but Wendy is just untouchable, for a more balanced perspective she would have to be compared to the actual R&B cohort where it is more saturated with vocal talent instead of the kpop scene and even then, shes amongst the top 10% of Korean R&B talents to have existed thus far.
Ever since Wendy came back with her Like Water solo, she has improved soooo much. I wish they could rerecord their first album The Red because her voice has improved and developed a LOT since then. It sounded like she was holding back then and now it's like she's unleashed the full capacity of her voice, and is still exploring more (Step Back for example). She has done a variety of concepts and she can nail every single one.

What I like about Wendy is no matter how low or high she’s singing, I can hear her pronounce the words very clearly, and no doubt her control is superb.

Wendy is an exquisite vocalist. While she is a kpop idol/artist I wish more people would recognize her as a beautiful vocalist in general and not just “in kpop”
Saying Solar is like Jihyo on steroids is honestly so true. Jihyo was the first vocalist that I really fell in love with in kpop but after I started branching out and finding other groups, Solar was a fast second for me. Love them so much
Jihyo doesn't sound like she had 10 years training (even of some of it was for acting) and 7 years active as an idol. For all that, we would expect Jihyo today to sound like 'Jihyo on steroids' but her voice is lacking.
@@Ri57490 well jihyo actually was supposed to debut as her group’s main dancer before sixteen and honestly with a schedule like twice(having 6 cbs each year) it’s completely expected and normal for her to regress a bit but she’s still a good vocalist(C tier) and strong dancer with insane stage presence and a song writer too

Ningning is a great vocalist but I think she needs a little more confidence, I can feel that shes a little cautious in her voice, I think winter is more confident than her. But her technique tho, usually heady vocalists like Bada for example have weak lows but Ningning, her lows are amazing. She can also be chesty and full on her mix(dct recording behind), I hope she keeps that approach instead of taking a light coordination instead. But shes still a great singer, her vocals suits disney songs, i hope SM cast her for disney osts soon.
The main problems with her is the lack of materials. I can give her F#3/G3-C5/C#5-F#5 if she show enough materials. But for now it’s G3-C#5
I think she's afraid of messing up due to the pressure of being SM's main vocalist; I hope to hear more from her in the future!

Confidence comes with practice, and practice at home does very little for singing in public. If she was allowed to sing live more it will for sure improve automatically

I like Siyeon's way of singing as it's suitable for the type of genre she's singing, which is rock/metal. All the other vocalists have style that are in conjuction with the type of music they do, like rnb, ballads and so on. I get Siyeon's low notes aren't necessarily good but I'm also sad they didn't use recent clips. Her low register in Whistle was actually amazing, so yeah

@@crystalnait455 mamamoo vocal abilites are mainly low registers, they are easier to control compared to singers who sings with a high pitch which is difficult to control and she executes that perfectly, in the recent comeback during the last chorus, she has performed that live on different stages and she executed them perfectly
Thank you for appreciating Wendy's vocals. I feel so deeply about her singing that it always makes me feel warm just listening to her. I think that is also her edge among all other vocalist on this list that she don't just belt the notes but you can feel the emotions she want to convey on the song itself. Her solo album is my saving grace and it really helped me get through tough times. I hope many other people appreciate her vocals. Best girl indeed
I think that is the strongest point of Wendy here..she conveys the message through her singing..not only that her runs as well..wendy can be very matured sounding, cheeky and emotional depending on which song she sang and did it amazingly..the thing with MMM vocalists is that they are always sound strong almost too strong for my liking while Wendy on the other hand offers different vibes each time..

seulgi is my favorite vocalist in reve (and possibly kpop) but saying that Wendy isn't better in every possible way would just be blatant bias. Wendy's talent is impossible to deny. she deserves all the praise she gets for her vocals

Vocal ranking is not only about how high the notes a singer can belt, it is also about how a singer can do different genres and vocal techniques. Red velvet's Wendy is a good example of it. No doubt she would be on the number 1 spot✨
I love Rosé, & I agree with what you said. I wish she would be allowed to sing her way. But seeing as how YG is a control freak, not holding my breath. The few times that she has sang with her deep voice, she sounds🤌🏼. She’s very stable, & hardly cracks while jumping, bending, getting lifted, & dancing .
Solar & Wendy are off course QUEENS of vocals. It’s sad that Wendy isn’t appreciated more by her own label.😒
Siyeon is like the Aguilera of KPOP. She has bad technique but cant deny the way she delivers her vocals is outstanding and like aguilera, its not suprising she fools everyone that shes an amazing vocalist

Something about wendy's voice sounds like she was trained in America. She doesn't sound like a kpop singer, more like an American pop or ballad singer.

I love Siyeon’s tone and the way that she performs with her vocal and not simply using technique to sing but I couldn’t deny that she does need all the technical aspects mentioned. If I’m right, coming from a small company, I don’t think Siyeon ever had a proper formal vocal teacher. I think a lot of her vocal knowledge is self taught.

What do you mean bad technique. She's perfect with her techniques and stylistics choices. You forgot Siyeon sings live every DC presentation? I've seen tons of vocal coaches reacting to her, no one ever said she had bad technique, on the opposite, they said she's amazingly effortless singing and belting. That means she knows her voice, her skills are high level and that is only achieved if you had singing classes. I don't think DC company are this neglect, you're assuming it just because they're small? It's not like a vocal lesson is that expensive... And look at DC music engineering work? Do you really believe their company doesn't pay attention to important things like vocal lessons when they put that much of effort on music engineering and composition? Fact is Wendy Rose, tayeong, jihyo, etc Are from big companies so everyone try to put them at the top. But when it comes to Siyeon, Solar, Hwasa, Minnie people really are biased to put them at low positions, when they actually are the best vocalist of this generation and don't fail whenever they sing live.

Yes, I think you are right. She needs a good vocal coach to help develop her voice, which means it will change a little, but that will help protect her voice too. She strains far too much when she belts and that's a cause for concern if we want longevity out of her.

Rosé and Lia are great vocalists, but their specialties are singing in low keys. their voices were "made" for songs with acoustic styles and etc. both have great voices you just need to use them properly.
I disagree rosé is very comfortable in her higher range, you can see that in her covers she usually changes the key higher and her vocal agility is outstanding as you heard in the video
But i would agree Lia is a very bluesy singer, her lower register and her tone when she sings lower is very attractive

Finally someone not hating on their voices and calling them untalented people who deserve nothing on this planet. It’s exhausting. Not everyone is a Wendy. Just because they may not be the best of the best doesn’t mean they aren’t good. Rosé hits high notes with ease. Her voice always sounds amazing and pleasing to ears, and I’d like to mention her technique isn’t as bad as people like to say. Lia is so good as well. It pains me how underrated she is. I don’t keep up with itzy but I can say from what I’ve heard, her parts in songs are always my favorite. They both have such good voices and they really don’t deserve the hate for their voices. (Plus, YG sucks af, and only cares about rap and dance)
I have to say... I'm really glad Korea has so many variety shows to appreciate independent artists and idol vocalists. Wheein's singing has soul, sometimes moving people to tears. I love her both as an idol and artist in Ravi's company!

Honestly to think that Jihyo was trained only for 3 years in singing and she was trained to be lead vocal, the only reason she at last minute was made the main vocal was cause she was better than the other lead vocals and still makes it to Top4 is honestly very very amazing, and other thing your ranking is pretty accurate but Jihyo improved a lot from debut and it would have been great if you used her videos from present or 2 years ago instead of from 2016 - 2015 but its understandable since JYPE never let her in any solo stage aside these ones :)
Jihyo has definitely improved a lot. It would have been nice if recent clips of her singing were used. T.T was like how many years ago. She has definitely improved by a hundred percent since then. I think it would be really nice if clips from Twice recent tour was used cuz the girl vocal was lit🔥. Singing and dancing through 3hrs of concert.
Minyoung was meant to be the main vocal in 6mix if im not wrong but that doesnt mean jihyo wasnt trained to a main vocal she was always in the vocal position its just that jyp ent probably didnt intend to make her a main vocalist until sixteen.

Btw even though I think wheein’s technique is a little better as a singer, solar is the main vocalist of MAMAMOO. It’s one of the few roles they’ve actually confirmed in within the group
its only “confirmed” because it was easier to say unofficial positions during interviews during their debut. But on thier official kpop website they have no main or lead vocal and even Solar said plenty of times she is not the main vocalist and she doesn’t think she is the best singer in the group.

@@sally-dg3ml Not technically true…Wheein has better falsetto and is leaning more into producing head voice now, their lower register is more or less the same, and Wheein’s vocal agility and melisma still greatly surpasses Solar. the only thing i can give over to Solar is a more consistent supported range. Wheein’s has lost consistency in the c#5 in terms of support and her C5 is a hit or miss but she still does excel solar in most other categories

Solar's versatility is insane if you have followed all her solo work, she doesn't get to showcase it as part of Mamamoo as she always gets the high and powerful parts. You can she that in her recent solo work
I was really surprised by Jihyo's vocals during the recent tour, especially in encore songs like Firework, and there's a clip of her singing Moonlight just when they're leaving the stage

I think I know why you think she is good from a past experience of mine. I used to have zero knowledge of vocal technique then I took vocal lessons and learnt about support which is the most important thing in proper singing. I suggest watching kpop strain vs support video to understand vocal technique.
@@A-Tsket I actually don't care about vocal training, I'm not a singer, and yes, I'm ignorant when it comes to the subject. But for me, even if she lacks of something, she sounds amazing and that's the most important for the listeners. That's why I think (based in my own taste) she's a perfect singer/artist. The sound and potential Siyeon has is unique and that's what I like about her. Not everything in life is about classical technique when you have THAT voice and can sound like that.

Jihyo in her defense I don’t think she has had the advantage of receiving the training she needs to tap into her full potential as a vocalist. I feel like JYP doesn’t give his main vocalist the training they need to execute and adapt depending on the song. I feel like if she had the right training she would be in a much better place as a singer. Because the potential is there

I agree with this list completely except that I think Ningning and Jihyo should be switched. Now that we've seen Ningning sing live at Coachella and other performances, we know just how incredible she is with her belts and head voice, and support.

Lily is better than Lia, Jihyo, and Min/Suzy but still below Sunye, Yeeun, Baek Yerin, and Jamie with a considerable gap. I'd say JYP is average to above average when training their vocalists. Nayeon and Jeongyeon aren't bad as well. With that in mind, JYP vocal coaches definitely know how to do their job properly but whether they want to improve or remain stagnant is up to the trainees themselves.
Minnie actually caught my ears on that Queendom stage haha She developed a lot since then, please check her out! Her voice color is absolutely dreaming, I hope she gets a solo soon. 🥰

The fact that whenever I see these vids on my recommended I already know Wendy is number 1. WITHOUT A SINGLE DOUBT IN MY MIND. Wendy is just a damn near perfect vocalist. Her technique, range, agility (ain't nobody doing runs like she can and does), and diversity (girlie got 10 voices) solidify her undisputed number 1 ranking and supports all statements that shes one of the BEST vocalists in the kpop industry right now.

Like this video said, Jihyo is basically the pre-evolution of Solar. They're both depended on when it comes to more "heroic" parts of the songs. Ever since Twice started doing more mature concepts (Feel Special, Breakthrough, Perfect World to name a few), her style of singing brings a depth to the songs and gives that much needed oomph.
I'm also kind of done with JYPE giving too much lines to Nayeon, who kind of struggled to sing through their repertoire in their tour.

However, she recently had a stylistic approach to songs (to fit the title tracks tbh) in studio version, which made her voice nasal in studio. In live she quickly switches up to technique. And I also agree that Nayeon getd way too many lines for her level.

siyeon's vocal technique might not be perfect but she sounds wonderful, the only reason miyeon is higher that she's a low register i would guess that there is a standard for vocal technique, not everyone can sound the same or tune their voice to fit the vocal technique standards and i believe siyeon has mastered her vocal methods and it is very suitable for her, i love all her parts in each DC tracks, they are the hitting points.
@RadDude don't listen to this YT, they seem to know what makes the basics for a good singer, but they don't really know that Siyeon's technique is her own. The other thing is, she's got 6 others who are actually all very good at the low-to-mid range.
She also can go into a very jazz style and in the last comeback, Bon Voyage, she really showed she's got some range. In Demian, she showed she can switch it up to almost a female classical Korean singer style. That's unique and I'm not saying the others in this list couldn't do rock or metal, but I am saying that Wendy and Rose would not sound at all as powerful as Siyeon.

I was really worried for Rose's vocals around 2018 because of her stylistic vocals and issues that they've caused other idols in the past (Bom) but she really has managed to improve and stabilize that technique. Good for her.
As much as she has improved it would still be better for her to scrap her current technique/style entirely. She will never reach her full potential otherwise. You can see that she has real and true potential because of what she’s capable of doing with an inherently limiting vocal style. Girl has a sense of musicality and a beautiful natural vocal tone. Wish she could showcase it more.

YG already revealed before that the reason why he wanted a unique vocalist, is because he wants someone that will be different from the rest. It's like in a world full of SIMILAR vocal tones, YG needs someone who will be different among the rest or someone who can make their own signature sound. Signature sound in which you can easily tell if who's the singer even with just one syllable and even with eyes closed. I think YG is kinda great in doing that, because he's the only one who have that kind of idea. Even Eric Nam acknowledge the style that Rosé has. Eric also acknowledge YG for being able to apply uniqueness in their artists' vocals.

I’m just gonna say that people who think Siyeon has underdeveloped vocal technique, are only thinking so within the scope of mainstream “it has to be crisp and clear or it’s not kpop” kind of kpop. Is there a bit of tension sometimes? Obviously. But if that critique applies to her, it literally needs to apply to every other main vocalist. When Siyeon sings within the rock genre, you can really tell what that raspy quality in her voice was made for. There’s a “rawness” to her voice that I have yet to find anywhere else in kpop, and she’s the reason I ever got into kpop in the first place. Everyone has room for improvement and I’m not saying she’s perfect or any better than the girls in this ranking, I just think her being ranked so low is crazy

If you take into consideration the fact that MAMAMOO is a self-developed group that had to rely on natural talents to carry them to fame, it's no wonder why she isn't top on this list. She had a short training period of 1.5 years where she probably learned to lighten her mix for better longetivity. The majority of her vocal prowess is from Wendy herself, so you suggesting she’s only as good as she is because of access to vocal coaches is in poor taste. If anything, SM is the one that lucks out in finding their main vocalists, that’s why there’s such a huge gap between their main vocalists and other members of their groups. Seulgi was training to be the main vocalist but Wendy came and that changed even though Seulgi was in SM for 5 years already at that time, yet she is quite far from Wendy’s level despite having the same access and even much earlier(no hate to her). I don’t think you have anything against Wendy, but your tone makes it seem like you’re trying to take credit away from her talent.
