Here’s a fun fact that you might want to reconsider. The mini 4 pro will NOT broadcast Remote ID if you are using the standard battery that keeps the drone under 250 grams. However the mini 4 pro will broadcast Remote ID only if you are using the intelligent flight battery plus that will make the mini 4 pro over 250 grams. So with that being said if you are a part 107 pilot and need the mini 4 pro to broadcast Remote ID You will have to purchase the extended flight battery plus. Another thing about Remote ID is that RID is broadcasting over blue tooth so depending on what device you are using the blue tooth signal is very limited. How far can you pick up with your headphones when walking away from your phone or tablet? That’s how close you have to be to the drone or drone pilot to use the drone scanner app and detect the location. After testing that out I could not detect my drone when approximately 500 feet away from my drone and controller. So unless the Karen is standing in the same area as you are such as a park then they won’t be able to detect the drone. In which case if they are they probably don’t need the app to find you in the first place 😂 And if Karen wants to come up and be A Karen then they will most likely leave with a black eye and a headache 😂
Is this accurate? I've only owned my drone for 2 weeks....and last night....while i was flying my drone a mile away watching deer.....a drone hovered above my house as if it KNEW EXACTLY WHERE MY HOME POINT WAS. There is no way my neighbors are scanning for drones........and flying drones. I'VE NEVER SEEN A DRONE ABOVE MY HOUSE FOR 5+ years.....UNTIL WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF OWNING AND FLYING ONE. My neighbors are all 65+ yrs old..... There is no way this was a coincidence.....and I believe they came from a lot further than 500'. I've never flown my drone over a house @ less than 150'....and I've never hovered.
@@bizboy5 you should have scanned their drone and flew to their pad too!!! lmao. I dont think dude is accurate about the bluetooth being limited in range. his general experience with bluetooth is on the ground where there is a lot more obstacles. Bluetooth or any signal transmitting in the air will go much further.
I have the mini 4 along with many other DJI drones. I also was an Air Traffic Controller at the busiest facility in the world. Believe me, this is being blown WAY out of proportion. Fly SAFE, no the RULES, and don’t be stupid. You’ll have no problems. If you think the FAA is monitoring all the drones being flown every day in the USA, you’re nuts. Again, don’t do anything stupid. You will be fine. Edit…IF you are approached by an FAA official who wants to proceed with a Ramp. Check, most likely it would happen only if you are flying in CONTROLLED airspace. Controlled meaning, flying within close proximity of a large airport. Now, I don’t know everything about all this mess, and I’m not saying you will never be approached. I’m only saying again…be safe. I’m curious, has ANYBODY out there ever been investigated by the FAA regarding your drone. If so, I, along with everyone else here would love to hear about your experience.
The reason why police surveillance contractors don't contract with the police in high crime areas is 100% due to RID. Criminal elements will know the location of the contractor and attack, plain and simple. But doing things to REDUCE crime is "stupid" right?
I read some reviews on the drone scanner app. I was mortified for the drone pilots. It's a massive safety risk. I read one review where the person said ''I couldn't find the pilot but if I did he better have good health insurance''. I know 95% of drone pilots out there are truly recording because they love aerial photography not to spy and create a scene, although that happens as well. Remote ID is an invasion of privacy and is totally unacceptable. I too will only use the normal lightweight batteries to avoid this nonsense. Like you said the last thing I need is a worked-up person trying to fight me, have the cops called on me, or better yet get robbed even killed over a drone. This is supposed to be a fun hobby for me and I've been flying now for 10 years basically and now I find myself being paranoid when flying when I'm doing nothing wrong.
How thoughtful on the part of DJI. If you thought you could get away with flying your sub-250 quad with Plus sized batteries, nope. DJI sends out your ID to let the FAA know what you're doing. Coming next year: your DJI drone will automatically call the police to let them know about your naughtiness and where you live, so that you can experience getting swatted at 4:00 am by a swarm of jumping jackboots.
Exactly what I needed to watch. I did the same exact thing yesterday and I’m Just gonna swap the plus battery Fly more with the standard. F -249+. Thanks! Took a while to find this info. U answered the question that needed to be answered 👍
I think you're far too concerned about information 'being broadcasted'. It doesn't broadcast any private information. No normal citizen is going to be tracking your recreational flight paths. The RID drone scanning app also doesn't work very well and can be spoofed easily. You should be far more concerned about the phone in your pocket listening to everything you say than the red tape circus you have to step over to fly a drone.
I bought the DJI Mini Pro 4 (RC-N1) last month for Xmas. I am loving it so far and also bought the one with the standard battery. No issues with anyone being able to track me while i fly my Drone. Good Luck with yours and hope it brings you as much fun as it has brought me!
Cool! I'm looking forward to it. From what I can tell the drone scanner app I mentioned doesn't work on iphones. So the number of people who could use it and track us just shrunk a lot. 🙂
Is it registered? I have a standard battery.....and last night a drone (never seen a drone above my house for the 5+ years I've lived there) hovered over my homepoint as if it KNEW EXACTLY where I took off from. It hovered probably 50' in the air for 20 seconds....then took off. No way that was a coincidence.....and my neighbors are not drone users/scanners....so I don't believe the bluetooth needs to be within a few hundred feet to pick up the drone and user.... So after 5 years of not seeing a single drone....I had one visit last night after owning a drone for less than 2 weeks.....
@@LazyLightSaber Is there a process to register your drone other than the initial set up?...mine must be registered as I thought it was part of the set up? Is your firmware up to date? I need to find a way to unregister if that's the case...
@@bizboy5 the registration is done through the FAA here in the United States. I’m not sure where you live. But if you live in the USA, you gotta do it through the federal aviation administration. as long as you didn’t do that then it wasn’t registered with the government. You also have to pay a fee when you register. I think it’s like five dollars.
Brian, you didn't do your homework. The batteries for the Mini4 are different to the batteries for the Mini3. By now that is common cause. Utilising the Mini4 batteries, the drone weighs in at 249 grams as advertised. It is an amazing improvement on the Mini3. I am delighted with mine!
Hi Mark…the mini4 offers two choices of batteries…one that keeps it under 250g and another that extends the range but is heavier and puts the drone at around 290g. I’m not sure if the mini3 had that option or not.
@@BrianRouseMini 3 also has that option, and i think the intelligent plus battery is the same one on both mini 3 and mini 4. Also the one which weighs under 250 grams with the drone is also called intelligent flight battery because it has software updates, the one that weighs over 250 grams is intelligent flight battery plus
That's the whole point they are not "normal " citizens and might be looking to hurt or harm you or take your equipment. I follow the rules but do not want somebody knowing where I am flying my drone from !!! Great video thanks Brian!!
FWW (and as you forecast), the CAA in the UK is planning to change the game within the next year by requiring all camera drones, whatever their weight, to broadcast RID - and that includes my sub-249g M4P. The FAA may go a different route so DYOR. For legacy drones which don't have the capability to be upgraded for RID, the CAA wants to make those add-on modules compulsory. The price of not complying is that your drone won't take off - although hackers will doubtless find a way around that.
I'd be curious to see how they actually could broadcast RID in some sub-249g drones; I had one with a camera that was so small it couldn't get more than say, 40 feet in the air without fear of it blowing away. :-) Thanks for your feedback!
The M4P has RID built in, the latest firmware auto broadcasts the info for the heavier battery. You just need to get a FAA TRUST cert($5) and tell the FAA you have it, in you drone list on their site.... nothing else is really needed. The percent of "bothersome" people to worry about is super small. And if you ever Do run into one, tell them the FAA considers your drone an aircraft now, "there are a lot of things that can land them in federal trouble" if they mess with you, and leave it at that. I place all my FAA stickers on my drone hard case and wear a fluorescent "FAA drone pilot" vest with my ID/Cert in a clear pocket in case any law enforcement ever approaches me. (You are allowed to wear clothing that says "anything" so long as it is NOT an official uniform, 1st Amendment baby!) PLUS, it has Goggles 2 and Motion 2 controller support now, makes it FPV FUN, if you decide to drop the extra $. I LOVE the extra flight time the plus batteries give me. 6 plus batteries means flying until my RC 2 battery is dead. heh
@@technodrone313 very true, I don't dispute that at all, which is why I mentioned the heavier batteries in my first and last sentences. The Flight Plus batteries put it at 271g-272g.
Stop with the RID fear. Just Fly either part 107 or Recreational TRUST. My whole fleet to fly Rec was 5 bucks and the registration covers them all. I dont do UAS for any ones profit though. Dont be so scared of the world outside your Glass House.
Any Part 107 Flyer should welcome RID. RID identifies you as a serious flyer on some sort of commercial mission. The general public might think twice about interfering if you look the part. Law enforcement can calm the fears of any Karen that calls. So get the UAS Cert or stay recreational and use sub 250 gram aircraft. Recreational don't mean be stupid, so know the rules anyway.
if you do cave and fly rid do not fly from your home location, i have drone scanner, i now know a neighbor 1.5 miles flying drones, i know exact house and property, do it at your own risk
Thanks. The drone scanner demo I saw confirmed your observations as well so I definitely will not be flying from my house! Funny thing is my house is near a major airport so I have to go someplace else to fly anyway. 🙂
@@BrianRouse I assume you know about b4ufly web site (and they have a phone app too). Perhaps you can fly at your house even if it's controlled airspace if you get LAANC approval, which you can get from the app. Might be altitude limited.
Please forgive me for my ignorance. But why not just buy a set of 34 Min batteries instead of going through the motions of returning and repurchasing all over again. Wouldn't the drone itself would detect what kind of a battery we are using no matter which bundle you purchase? If the company DJI need to be compliant for remote ID I would think that they would put it on all drones moving forward then make them so the drone would know when to use it or make changes through firmware update. Buying the bundle just to avoid remote ID seem way to easy (or easy loophole). Plus what if we decide to get the 45Mins afterwards? Would the drone decide to turn ON remote ID when using the 45Mins? Maybe I'm missing something.🤷♂
I considered keeping it and just buying the extra batteries, but I didn't want the heavier batteries. So I decided to return it and get what I wanted. I should've been more careful from the beginning. Based on the release notes of the latest firmware update the mini 4 will broadcast with the heavier battery but will not with the lighter one. Thanks for your comment and for watching!
Is OK. You know sometimes things do not seem to us as cut and dry as we would like to under certain circumstances. It happens to all of us. In any case enjoy your flying!👍
Just so you know your Air 2 will broadcast RID when it does it next update. I have the same drone and mine updated to broadcast. I even checked with the drone scanner program you just mentioned.
I am with you 100% by the way I just purchased the potensic ATOM with the three axis gimbal. Fly more combo 379.00 !! 4k sony camera, active track and waypoints etc etc. DJI has competition
Everything I have read states the Mini 4 Pro has remote ID regardless of batteries being plus or not or do you mean the standard batteries doesn't AUTOMATICALLY activate and register where the plus batteries do
Thanks that is what I thought...so the plus batteries automatically activate the remote ID and the standard even though its part of the mini 4 pro doesnt get auto activated for registration due to its weight...thanks mate for clearing that up. Why would anyone want to be tracked is beyond me with some of the comments here but this is just another form of Big Brother watching everything we do..zero privacy @@BrianRouse
Same here.. had the mini3 pro… Now have some regret selling it last week and with an unopened mini4 at home.. ughhh Not against registering, but why all the other stuff broadcast for others to potentially harass you. 🤦🏻♂️ Similar to gun registration, the criminals or those with mal intent, will they register??? 🤣🤣🤣 Cmon Law abiding citizens are always impacted… What is next? Remote ID in electric cars?? Imagine that, your travel paths, location, operator info, etc… #Dangerous Far fetched.. maybe, maybe not… At what point does it get out of hand? Or until it is too late… I digress..
It's already out of hand, imo. There seems to be more drone laws than there are gun laws. If my drone is a danger to aircraft at 400 feet above the ground, then I think that aircraft has bigger issues!
M3, MP3 and MP4 all broadcast remote ID period, Doesn't matter what battery is in it. That said, they don't have the power to transmit it very far. I don't worry about it.
Sir you will be fine.. I was like you flying my Air for over 5 yrs, most likely every where, camping, fishing , parks, ... I never have any problems.. by far after mini first gen .. every where in my neighbor.. kids love it... and now mini 4 .. I think I, you .. drone lovers.. not gonna have issue. As long as you know drone rule.. and fly safe.. 👍👍..
@@BrianRouse I bought the MP4 because I thought that I could fly it with the RC-N2 because the Motion Controler really to me sucks, I really think DJI should make the RC-N1 or RC-N2 bind with the Googles 2.
I myself am not worried about RID. The majority of the people don't even have a clue about what it is. Granted, eventually more will find out about it but unless you know drone rules, etc. you probably wouldn't know about the app. Yes, there may be a few but I think that'll be so few that most people won't be bothered by someone trying to rob you or take out your drone. Also, if the Air 2 you're referring to is a Mavic Air 2, the RID firmware update is already released and FAA approved. I know because I have one also, along with the Mini 4 Pro with 1 standard battery and 3 Plus batteries. Any drone you fly, even if its under 250g needs to obey all FAA rules except for having to be registered and have RID. When I got my Mini 4 Pro, I bought it with standard batteries and registered it anyway since I had registered my Mavic Air 2 and it doesn't cost any more to register more drones as long as you're only a recreational pilot. If you are certified and fly under Part 107, which you must be if you promote a business or generate revenue with your drone, you must register every drone separately with a different registration number whether it's under 250g or not. Personally, I love the Mini 4 Pro and am not concerned much about RID, especially since I'm studying for my Part 107 Cert. There are ways to deal with people who try to find you with the scanner app or just see you flying nearby and have some kind of beef about drones. The latter of which is still going to be the most common occurrence. Check out Russ' videos at www.youtube.com/@51Drones. He has some great advice about dealing with confrontations with drone haters. You might have to do a search to find one but it's worth it. He's a great source of info. Don't let RID dampen your passion for the hobby. It's not the end of the drone world as some seem to portray it. It's been blown out of proportion by many. Yes, it's a bit of a hassle if your drone can't be made RID compatible without a module but it's there and must be complied with to legally fly. Don't give up just for Remote ID.
Thanks for your words of wisdom! My mini 4 pro with the regular batteries will show up next week; definitely looking forward to trying it out. So the air 2 has the RID embedded within already?
Your story sounds similar to mine I have an old evo that I bought and still works fine so I added holy Stone RID module. But I just found a drone it's called potensic Atom 3 axis gimbal. You can get a fly more package for under $400 and if you watch the reviews some people are saying it's better than DJI because DJI has so many sensors that now it slows it all down. Anyway I thought you might want to look at it I just bought one hasn't even been delivered yet. 2:03
My concern is in regards to keeping my weight at 249g to keep the remote id from going into effect. Maybe overly paranoid, but I wanted the smaller battery.
With the Mini 4 Pro, people don’t really even know you’re there, unless you get in their face. People just don’t hang around the places I fly looking for drone operators, and most people won’t be looking at drone tag without cause. If there were large numbers of people hanging around that I didn’t like the look of, I wouldn’t fly there. To a regular not tech savy person, I just look like someone enjoying an ebook sitting out on the hill, unless I am getting ready to launch or taking things down.
Just took 107 test,12/29. So I'm still green. I heard remote module does not reveal ur location, only the drone, makes sense since module is attached to the drone
Btw - all DJI batteries are in fact "Intelligent" and that refers to the embedded BMS, Battery Management System circuitry. Discharges as noticed in the owners manual, and support USB PD power delivery protocol. U simply can't overcharge them nor deplete them or rush charging. Of course they're totally depleted left uncharged for an extended period of time I'm told 😅😅
Does anyone else think it's ironic how overboard DJI is compared to other companies, when it comes to our laws and "safety?" What benefit does a Chinese based company have, other than helping create even more dissent in America? All while being able to see every inch of this country, through the eyes of their drones. Maybe not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
I am very thankful for Remote ID and the FAA. Imagine the chaos in the skies that the Joe Shmoes would cause because they wanted to send their new Christmas gift to 2000 ft to get a good view. Completely ignorant to the consequences or regulations regarding the airspace. Imagine that it caused an aircraft to crash. Imagine if there was no way of knowing who was responsible for the sUAS that caused it. Imagine if there were hundreds or thousands of the unknown sUAS’s flying around with no regulations or ties to the remote pilots operating them.
It's better to fly RID so that you can be investigated without being bothered. If you have ever seen the RID map it literally shows all the drones in the city airspace, my area is covered by three airports. I fly sub-250 RID with no registration & after someone flew over a county prison they interviewed all flyers in the county with undercover home-security door-to-door salesmen. They ask how high do I fly, how far do I fly, have I ever lifted anything with the drone, do I fly at night... they ask all the questions.
@@BrianRouse There was a parade or something in the city where MSM showed us what the law-enforcement RID maps were showing, they were literally tracking like 50 drones but I forget the story or which parade it was, it was here on YT somewhere. I assume they were undercover b/c where I live we don't have door-to-door salesmen with high-drone-knowledge & military fathers. I'm in Chinampa-territory so most people fear our streets but it's just hookworms, they're not skilled citizens out to harm. IDK which drone RID App works best but I do encourage my Karen neighbors to use an app to report my RID.
Hi Brian! You are correct. But the heavier batteries are NOT available for purchase in Europe (and I presume a few other countries) because of the resulting excess weight. We had the same issue with the Mini 3 in Europe where standard and extended life batteries were available. In both cases I bought the Fly More kit supplied with three batteries and a charger. I have been quite satisfied with the total flight time I can get from them. Regards!
This is WAAAY ridiculous with the plus battery. I could understand if it made the drone faster and more powerful, but for all practical purposes, what is the difference with 30 grams?? It’s not going to do any more damage if you should ever crash into something. Rules like this should be re-reviewed. It’s not opening the door to a whole selection of potential batteries for the mini, it simply extends the flight time..
Drones under a certain weight like new Mini 4 Pro don’t require remote ID, or Part 107 license unless flying for commercial profit, or like making TH-cam videos. Also I contacted DJI and found my sons 2 yr old Air 2 has a remote ID firmware update to install it instead of needing to buy a module.
@@BrianRouse Doesnt matter exchange or not. They take those returns into account when setting up the prices in any business. Again, who am I to talk. It happened to me too. but I am very very new in drones, only a week of light research and I do know what you just found out already. Again. All good pal. Enjoy!
You put too much thought into it. RID doesn't give your name, address, etc., just the pilot and drone location. If someone comes to give you shit, tell them to wanker off. Really don't understand the problem people have with telling someone to get bent. That said, if it bothers you that much, then you have a work around with the sub 250g battery. However, when the FAA runs out of things to do, they'll likely require RID on ALL drones, regardless of weight, and your "Solution" will fail. I wish you luck either way.
Overthinking is one of my flaws, admittedly. 🙂 I have no doubt that my solution will ultimately fail, like you said. Unfortunately here in the US the gov loves to talk about staying out of our personal business but they seem to expand their reach every day. Thanks for watching.
A few things. Not one person requires you to unbox your drone on TH-cam it’s a choice. In addition your worries are kind of a what if. I fly my drones all the time. No one is trying to rob me or give me grief. There may be flaws in Remote ID but I can say your view is overblown to say the least. Good luck fly safe!!
Although you probably have returned the drone by now, I think you were being over cautious and a little paranoid about the RID thing. It will probably come to pass where all drones will have to meet the RID requirement. All batteries are intelligent flight batteries and a firmware update to the lower capacity batteries could enable RID in those as well. Fly by the rules, don't do anything stupid, respect other people and you should be good to go.
Yeah, it's been returned and the new, lighter battery version has arrived. You may be right about the eventuality you mentioned but until then, I'll stick with the smaller drones to avoid the potential hassle.
This information is incorrect. The Mini 4, from the beginning was previously, automatically broadcasting RID whenever is was being operated in the US airspace. Unconditionally, regardless of battery in the drone. The Dec update did not enable broadcast when using the Plus battery. It was already doing this. No, the update did the opposite, it stopped the automatic RID broadcast when using the standard battery. Thus the change of behavior for this firmware update was to no longer broadcast when using the std battery. This is because there is no requirement to broadcast RID in an unregistered, recreationally flown, sub 250g drone. The fact that the Mini 4 is certified Standard Remote ID does not mean it must broadcast RID when it's not legally required. Thus, there is no reason to expect without a change in federal law that RID will start being broadcast, again, for us recreational folks with sub250g, unregistered drones. My prediction is that since the vast majority of drone pilots are recreational, not 107, and the vast majority of them will be deliberately choosing sub 250 drones and not registering them, most drones will not be broadcasting RID unless or until there is a change in federal law requiring it.
I can't wait for the cops to stop me and my 249 gram dji pro 4.. While flying it recreationally in public land. Civil rights violation if they detain me..
i flew fixed wing for years haveing to haul all the stuff to a model flying field,it was easy to just fly drones at home, thats about over now, i also just blew cash on a new drone, its sitting in the case untill i decide if im even going to fly it at all, i will not broadcast my location to haters, drone scanner uses google maps, pinch and zoom, see a drone operators home and back yard and a google map marker stuck on your place, its not right, unexceptable not to mention a day in federal court when a snitch complains
I bought the mini 4 pro and I was under the impression that it did not broadcast remote ID I was wrong I know this from the controller saying error remote ID when I found out it was broadcasting remote ID I sent it back people will find your location
I don't understand how you didn't know this before you bought it. Everything I've seen since the Mini 4 Pro came out is that it's overweight with the bigger batteries...
People worry too much. I could care less. I dont register anything. Twll u 1 more thing. The mi i 2 has had a 4100 mah battery for years. I get 60 minutes on the mini 2 alone. The mini 3 and 4 is a ripoff. Why buy a mini 4 pro when a air 3 is about the same price. Thats just dji scamin. They learnt from apple definitely. Im gonna keep doing what i want to do. In fact im building a fixed wing that will fly 20 miles away and then back. 2 hours of flight at cruise. Top speed is 120 mph on 4g cellular. Good luck catching me with that lol
@@BrianRouse I've had the spark and the mini 2 and I'm not interested in small drones anymore. They remind me of toys. Really expensive toys. They r so limited and weak.
Both the standard and"larger" batteries are "smart" your logic is based on buying the smart battery option. In North America, that is a unicorn you can't find! Front slam a product because you didn't do your research. I own several DJI drones. You didn't do your research.
Why would you return the drone???? I would have just bought the standard batteries from the DJI and call it a day…. Plus anyone who uses the app I’m sure the company made sure to keep this information private and not allow just anyone to see who is using this app. I think you are overthinking this in my honest opinion.
You might be right; I tend to overthink. That said, I wasn't really interested in the more expensive batteries in the first place, and it's super easy to return it and get the one I really wanted. But the drone scanner app shows your location and flight path.

If you want to fly your Air 2 legally (or any drone above 249 grams), you will need a RID module by March of 2024. Actually, I think DJI might be offering a firmware update that will put standard RID on the Air 2. I'll let you dig into that one. Do you fly in areas where the general public is well informed and tech savvy? You have flown drones for years and knew nothing about the RID tracking apps. Yet you're concerned people that do not fly drones will know all about the RID tracking apps? Personally, I have never met a smart criminal and honestly believe none of us have anything to worry about when it comes to RID tracking apps. Criminals and thugs are not going to be using them. The only people I foresee using the RID tracking apps, other than law enforcement, are Karen's. What are they going to do other than yell and threaten to call the authorities?
I've got a lot of nosy neighbors around here, yes. Tech savvy? Unknown. I'm not sure about the future of my Air 2 just yet; I did see something about the March 2024 deadline like you mentioned! Thanks for watching.
@@drone313 I thought I had read or heard that DJI was going to take care of that in December of 2023, but never followed up. I do not own that particular drone, so it was never a pressing matter. Thanks for confirming.
The problem with returning a perfectly good product such as your drone, it could no longer be sold as new, and will be sold, probably as part of a pallet of similar products for maybe 20 to 30% of the original sale price with the dealer healthy to eat the difference. Due to your not fully understanding what you were purchasing.
Remote Id eventually will be for other pilots to see each other to mitigate the air traffic. Hearing your reasons why avoid Remote ID The less people like you in the sky the better Not everyone is flying 400$ drone. Some are flying 50K drones and because of those who are recklessly fly and dodge the rules others get harder regulations and restrictions. There should be easy and safe aircraft control for all pilots and safety for everyone bellow that is period.
Two of the, for lack of a better word, perks, of flying a sub 250g drone is that you don't have to register or broadcast RID. I'm not interested in the world knowing where I am, which is part of the reason I chose a small drone. And with that, I lose out on range, camera quality, and features. That's ok by me.
😀 I don't so much mind the remote id concept, it's the possibility of the general public being able to access my location and getting up in my business.
Same reason I stopped using the hiking app, I forget the name of it. Found the damn thing was broadcasting my walks online, including those starting from my house. I don't want my home address or current location broadcast across the net.
@@bigglyguy8429 Oh man that would suck. The last thing you want is someone thinking, "Oh look! he's about 45 minutes from home! Let's see what sort of TV he has."
Remote ID, should be restricted to law enforcement only. Who wants to have some mentally ill person, harassing you or worse.
Totally agree!

I feel some of your comment is FAA Bait.
The invasion of regulations that limit privacy in the name of "safety" is ridiculous. As an Air Traffic Controller, you have the same privacy rights.
Chicago or Oshkosh?
The one positive is that the app doesn't work on iPhones. So that at least eliminates some people from tracking you. 😕
@@BrianRouse I know. That's good because a lot of the population uses Apple. But you never know.
I did the same exact thing yesterday and I’m
Just gonna swap the plus battery Fly more with the standard. F -249+. Thanks! Took a while to find this info. U answered the question that needed to be answered 👍
Great! Thanks for watching!
Well said. You’re probably right! Thanks for watching!
Wrong

@@bizboy5 no it’s not since it’s under 250 grams. I have never bumped into another drone user in the wild or seen one in my neighborhood.
I’ve been looking for this information for while now. Thanks for clarifying all this info. It was completely useful.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad it was helpful.
That's the whole point they are not "normal " citizens and might be looking to hurt or harm you or take your equipment. I follow the rules but do not want somebody knowing where I am flying my drone from !!! Great video thanks Brian!!
Totally agree! Thanks for watching.
Everything gets more complicated... standard battery seems to be the better choice for me too.
(You are allowed to wear clothing that says "anything" so long as it is NOT an official uniform, 1st Amendment baby!)
PLUS, it has Goggles 2 and Motion 2 controller support now, makes it FPV FUN, if you decide to drop the extra $.
I LOVE the extra flight time the plus batteries give me. 6 plus batteries means flying until my RC 2 battery is dead. heh
dont need it under 250grams
@@technodrone313 very true, I don't dispute that at all, which is why I mentioned the heavier batteries in my first and last sentences. The Flight Plus batteries put it at 271g-272g.

I got the TRUST cert yesterday 👍🏻
Any Part 107 Flyer should welcome RID. RID identifies you as a serious flyer on some sort of commercial mission. The general public might think twice about interfering if you look the part. Law enforcement can calm the fears of any Karen that calls. So get the UAS Cert or stay recreational and use sub 250 gram aircraft. Recreational don't mean be stupid, so know the rules anyway.
if you do cave and fly rid do not fly from your home location, i have drone scanner, i now know a neighbor 1.5 miles flying drones, i know exact house and property, do it at your own risk

Damn man, you want deep down the conspiracy rabbit hole!
LOL True!
Cool…I’ll check it out! Thanks for watching.
I agree. This is why I will not upgrade from my air 2s nor upgrade the firmware on it.
you gotta register it under 250 no matter what if your working under part 107 :(

@@BrianRouse Yes a little 😩
With the Mini 4 Pro, people don’t really even know you’re there, unless you get in their face. RID is a USA requirement and what it transmits is a USA thing. Your old drone needs to be equipped with it now.

I was probably just being lazy when I equated “heavy” with “intelligent” :-). Thanks for watching!
It might be even easier to see every inch of the country via Google maps :-)
@@BrianRouse If that's true, why did they send a spy balloon?
I am very thankful for Remote ID and the FAA. Imagine the chaos in the skies that the Joe Shmoes would cause because they wanted to send their new Christmas gift to 2000 ft to get a good view. Completely ignorant to the consequences or regulations regarding the airspace. Imagine that it caused an aircraft to crash. Imagine if there was no way of knowing who was responsible for the sUAS that caused it. Imagine if there were hundreds or thousands of the unknown sUAS’s flying around with no regulations or ties to the remote pilots operating them.
Words to contemplate right here, thanks!
Then you will be disappointed. Most drones are not be required to broadcast RID and won't be broadcasting it. How do you like them apples?
It's better to fly RID so that you can be investigated without being bothered. If you have ever seen the RID map it literally shows all the drones in the city airspace, my area is covered by three airports. I fly sub-250 RID with no registration & after someone flew over a county prison they interviewed all flyers in the county with undercover home-security door-to-door salesmen. They ask how high do I fly, how far do I fly, have I ever lifted anything with the drone, do I fly at night... they ask all the questions.
Two questions…where do I find this RID map, and how did you know they were undercover? Thanks for watching!
Regards!
I"m looking forward to getting mine. It just got delayed a couple of days though! 🙄
Yep. I don't get why 249g is the magical number. 30gs won't make any difference at all. Thanks for watching!
I wonder if anyone has experimented with ways of blocking the remote ID signal?

You’re probably right! So unboxings aren’t mandatory? 😆 thanks for watching.
I agree, makes sense. @@RebelByNature

That fixed wing sounds awesome! I bought the mini because I wanted a small drone; the air 3 didn't interest me. Thanks for watching!
@@BrianRouse I've had the spark and the mini 2 and I'm not interested in small drones anymore. They remind me of toys. Really expensive toys. They r so limited and weak.
@@w.e.s. definitely a valid observation. I might feel the same way in a year!
Just another uninformed consumer that is mad about their own ignorance.
Then you Broadcast it!
I’m glad you are owning it!!
Yep, hopefully it can help someone else avoid the same mistakes as me.
Another clickbait title, I love my Mini 4 Pro Plus Combo!
I hope to be enjoying my mini 4 pro regular battery combo soon! 🙂
@@BrianRouse Could of just of bought a separate standard battery?..i just ordered the maxed out combo with 2 plus batteries but as far as i know it also has standard battery with it?
@@youltenbrett Yeah I could've done that. But I didn't want the extra cost along with batteries I probably wouldn't use (the plus batteries). So I just returned it. I'll get a new version with the lighter batteries soon.
Air 2 should have a RID firmware update coming out without needing a module.
@@GEAE_Denny_L Good to know...thanks!
Dji has already updated firmware for air2, RID complaint with update. Fly safe
@@drone313 I thought I had read or heard that DJI was going to take care of that in December of 2023, but never followed up. I do not own that particular drone, so it was never a pressing matter. Thanks for confirming.
Intelligent batteries are really stupid batteries.
How so?
@@BrianRouse You just explained it in your video!
@@driewiel Ah…I misunderstood your comment.
@@BrianRouse Don't worry, The FAA, EASA, and all politicians completely misunderstood hobby drones. They confused them with nuke missiles.
The problem with returning a perfectly good product such as your drone, it could no longer be sold as new, and will be sold, probably as part of a pallet of similar products for maybe 20 to 30% of the original sale price with the dealer healthy to eat the difference. Due to your not fully understanding what you were purchasing.
This is true
Remote Id eventually will be for other pilots to see each other to mitigate the air traffic.
Hearing your reasons why avoid Remote ID The less people like you in the sky the better
Not everyone is flying 400$ drone. Some are flying 50K drones and because of those who are recklessly fly and dodge the rules others get harder regulations and restrictions.
There should be easy and safe aircraft control for all pilots and safety for everyone bellow that is period.
Ok Karen
@@TisGOBBLEdeGOOK your mom
Two of the, for lack of a better word, perks, of flying a sub 250g drone is that you don't have to register or broadcast RID. I'm not interested in the world knowing where I am, which is part of the reason I chose a small drone. And with that, I lose out on range, camera quality, and features. That's ok by me.
I really don't se the problem with that remote ID, if you are not doing anything illegal there is no problem
LMAO.
So what I'm understanding Is you want to be under the radar. Why? Are you hiding something from the law? Remote ID shouldn't matter
😀 I don't so much mind the remote id concept, it's the possibility of the general public being able to access my location and getting up in my business.
I understand yeah that's weird It should be exclusive to officials not the general public.@@BrianRouse
You are clueless.
