I followed Pilot Institute and took their course to study for the 107 few years ago and boy was passing that test a breeze! Greg actually teaches things in english and easy to understand. Breaks it all down incredibly simply and emphasizes the right things for safety and fun! Keep these awesome Colabs coming!

I used Greg to get my 107 2 years ago and I must admit I am NOT a great student at all and I passed it easily my first time. I did take my time with it and studied for 2 months about an hour a day. Sectional charts are no joke and neither is this exam. If you do not study and do the practice exams that Greg has, you will fail this exam. Like I said earlier, I am not a great student but Greg made it fun and easy to learn. Having my Section 107 has changed my business big time. My You Tube Channel has gotten me a lot of real estate clients because of my drone flights. I highly recommend people to learn the laws, fly safe and have fun. It's an amazing hobby too! Great video too guys!

The 2024 exam just came out this past Monday. Very few questions from the previous year's test are actually on the new test making it difficult. The maps for sure still remain in place though. Just saying. Study new material prior to the renewal.

Ill be honest some of the rules regarding car and people like crossing roads is a bit much, so long as theres a plan in place and distance we should be allowed to fly over. Rules are a bit strict still but end of the day its down to bad pilots letting everyone else down.

I do get a notification about acknowledging I'm near an airport and so forth but once i check it off on the RC I'm ok. I'm wondering should i even get the part 107 if I'm only flying recreational here in NYC? I'm thinking once I pass the 107 and register my drone, ill NOW be listed and documented and subjected to all these limitations. As of now I'm not. so what would be the pro and cons of someone in my situation and drone? dji mini 3 pro and currently only flying recreational with no issues thus far in NYC

4:54 I'm a pilot who flies in and out of that airport... Buttonville is a huge airport, it's been there since the 1950s, and any police officer flying a drone that close to the runway approach had to have been a moron. Especially when they claimed they didn't know an airport was there; Buttonville airport is the operating base for the helicopters / aircraft of that police force.

Also, as a former private pilot and current part 107 holder, THANK YOU for making this video! Most people I know that have drones have not registered them, taken the TRUST, and they fly for hire without their part 107. It’s the bad actors who push safety boundaries and end up getting the rest of us more restrictions on flight, which means more cost and less income. Please, if you are not registered or if you haven’t taken the appropriate exams / courses for flying a drone, go get it done NOW!

Being commercial that is likely built into the flight control software, the industry has a lot of info from different sources tied together. Even basic DJI app shows most restricted airspace on their flight map, I say most, because they don’t include National Parks as restricted (in USA) , likely others. It is possible to get approval to fly in some, but there is paperwork involved.

I got my 107 and I fully agree that we all share that airspace. Just like the highways on the ground, we have to be certain we are safe and the actions we do don't put others in harms way. The 5 hazardous attitudes helps identify the type of thinking that can lead you to making mistakes that will put yourself and others in danger. It really does start in how we think about the airspace. It's not something that we are entitled to. Yes, it's open and free, but that means it's open and free to everyone. That's why we have to manage the airspace and categorize it correctly so the correct emphasis is placed on controlling and managing those aircraft while they coexist in that airspace.

    • @BitwiseMobile
      @BitwiseMobile ปีที่แล้ว

Free service for the tail numbers! That's awesome. Also, just FYI - you only need a single tail number. The FAA rule is that all aircraft in flight need the tail number. So you can use the same tail number for all of your aircraft as long as you don't fly them at the same time (which you can't since you would most likely run afoul of more regulations). State laws differ though, so that might not be 100% accurate. As far as the FAA is concerned though, you only need a single tail number for all of your recreational UAS.

If you want to go down the rabbit hole even deeper, just filming in general on public land if you are monetizing may be illegal if you didn't get a permit beforehand. This applies to NPS, BLM, FWS, and NFS which many many people don't seem to be aware of. Then there is state managed land which is even more complex because each state is different.

People blame irresponsible drone pilots but it is the government that ruins it for everyone. You don’t punish everyone for the crimes of the few.
It’s not reasonable to ban cars because someone commits vehicular murder
Even if we are just taking about parks, boats are allowed and they can cause damage. Dogs are allowed and they can mess with wildlife.
Why should drones be the exception? At most just require licensing or something.

You can even use a something like a PS2 or Xbox remote if you want.
But yep, to use the DJI fpv simulator you need an activated drone with goggles (though you don’t need to use the goggles, to use controller with the app - but if you’ve got them… 😉).

Sadly this is also very temperamental on Mac’s (if you have a DJI Fpv or Avata, you can activate the controller 2 by binding it with the drone), but otherwise if you can get access to a PC for the activation step it’s a bit easier, or a Mac running Monterey (macOS 12) or earlier it’s possible.

Great video! You actually can fly over national parks, but the drone must takeoff and land outside the park boundary, and you must operate the drone outside the park. This is because the FAA, not the NPS, controls the airspace above national parks, and the FAA does not prohibit flying over most national parks. Even so, don't be a jerk about this, like flying too close to animals or people, or the FAA might change their rules about this.

Great informative video. It seems that a lot of people don't know the rules, and even when you think you know them there can be other things that may prevent you from flying. I'd like to plug Pilot Institute for their great educational training. I used their training course to acquire the knowledge and ultimately pass the exam for the part 107.

21:43 I took my drone to Guatemala back in 2017 or 2018. Had to take it in my carry on. No problem going there but on the way back they confiscated my drone tools in the Guatemala airport. During the luggage check the guys made me throw my Allen wrenches. It was fine. Better that than my drones. But yea do check in advance when traveling. And be aware it might be different on the way back

👉🏻Just finished taking the Part 107 course through Pilot’s institute. They definitely have a good product that helped me pass the test with flying colors (pun intended 😂)

Remote ID does apply to sub 250g if you’re flying a category 1 drone + mavic 2 pro can be flown over people at certain altitude using a FAA approved parachute

    • @PilotInstitute
      @PilotInstitute ปีที่แล้ว +1

Remote ID doesn't apply if you're flying a drone under 250 grams AND it's flown recreationally. But Remote ID does apply to all drones flown under part 107 (non-recreational purposes).
As far as parachutes, there is no such thing as an FAA-approved parachute anymore. The FAA is now using categories of drones for approval. Waivers using parachutes are no longer a thing since the new rules for flying over people came out in 2021. A Mavic 2 with a parachute would not qualify as capable to fly over people at the moment.

Thanks for the video, I know iv been looking for better understanding into this stuff that makes since. Hopefully the line of site rule is something that gets modified sooner or later. I dont have a drone yet, but been next to people that have them and seems like you can only see them for a couple hundred feet which for so many scenarios just does not work.

    It's all about control.
'They' fear our right to utilize surveillance against them.
Safety has NOTHING to do with it.
Notice how police and ANY government worker gets when being filmed ?
    People are so Naive.

Outstanding Video. Every question answered I completely agree with as it's stated in Part 107. Bravo. I've been legally flying since 2017. It's been a ride and this video nails every question perfectly. Bravo and thank you for this service to our industry. Have fun Potato Jet. Welcome to the club. Enjoy the bounty of benefits you will receive from flying safe, aware and legal to the FAA who does want to help our industry. They just want safe pilots!

If you fly a smaller drone, a strobe can be helpful in helping you see it a little further.

Every drone photographer I know breaks the laws; partly due to ignorance, but also because the laws and the permitting processes are so ridiculous. Planing trip to do a single 15 minute drone photo shoot can cost $250 and take 3 months...only to be denied for no stated reason.

Greatly appreciate all the videos and updates. Just obtained my recurrent certificate. Its interesting to see the changes since I passed the initial test more than 3 years ago, thanks to pilot institute. Hoping DJI provides software update for remote id for my Mavic Air 2. Thanks Greg and team. Dan

I'm confused by the footage in this video. You are clearly taking off on the overlook that faces Bell Rock and is located in a US Forest Service wilderness area. Each parking area has signs stating that you cannot use UAVs there. Am I missing something?

Note: you can fly over a national park , you can't land or take off in one. Read the law carefully. As to night flight , read the rules related to community based standards organizations, AMA has always allowed night flight if you have attitude lights. So much mis-stated in this video but when you are trying to get people to pay you to learn what is very simple to be able to pass a test what do you expect.

The biggest issue in my area is manned aircraft flying well under 400 feet above ground level near an area where drones have self reported that they are flying. It happens all the time the problem is manned aircraft not the drone
