I was once a student at Wittenberg, along with Horatio and Hamlet. I do believe you were a professor there who taught the three of us about the flights of Daedalus and Icarus. You warned of the perils of flying too high or too low and the necessity of smooth flying. Ever since those days at university, I have followed your smooth-flying advice. Thank you, my professor.
Forsooth! For I am indeed Daedalus preaching to my army of Icaruses (Icarusi?); fly smooth, fly good; not too low; not too high.... You have been warned :)
in Ian Dave Australia, here as an ex flight instructor on little Cessnas from way back. I really appreciate this video,, your explanation of how we change the settings pitch yaw etc is so important . I have had a DJI Mavic 2 zoom for about four years and now as of yesterday got this little beast the mini 4 pro It’s a great machine. Thanks very much.
My preferred settings for Normal: Max speeds - leave at max Max Angular Velocity: 35-40 ‘ /s (more for Sport; less for Cine) Yaw Smoothness: 60 Brake Sensitivity: Set to max (highest) Gimbal Max Control Speed - 20 ‘/s Tilt Smoothness 25
Ian thanks for going the extra mile and freezing your butt off to make this. I’m super glad you did, the mini 4 is a bit jumpy but I love it more than any of my previous DJI drones. I change the settings. It should help
Brand new DJI Mini 4 Pro OWNER, first time viewer AND NEW SUBSCRIBER! Great teaching video rather than just say do ABC you showed the feature, demonstrated how different values affected the drone and gave your recommendation. As a newbie even doing these steps will help me understand the drone better AND your recommendations will give me smoother quality videos. Thanks for all that. Just one thing on your EXPO Exponential Stick Sensitivity values your edit didn't show your final recommendations - what settings do you prefer for Up/Down, Yaw, Pitch/Roll?
Awesome Ian... very helpful and clear video my friend...thanks a quintillion... my videos need all the help you can offer...lol... keep them props up, and may God bless you and loved ones and keep you safe i pray...
Hi Ian, Thanks for this great information, been watching it over and over again. I am a professional photographer for 25 years, owned a Phantom 4, recently got the M4P. As far the Yaw Smoothness and Speed are concerned, I was thinking to set them to least smooth and the speed about moderate under the N mode. The reason for me to do that is simply to compose the image fast, especially composition with leading lines, such as road, railway tracks, rivers or any other geomatricaly shape subjects. I find that if the smoothness is too high, or even moderate, it will be difficult to fine tune the camera. I found I spent lots of time positioning the camera. Now, If I set the smoothness low, say "1", it will be easier to do the fine tuning. Maybe I am a photographer, use to control and fine tune the angle on the tripod. As soon as I have composed the scene, I would switch to C mode and begin filming. The other thing to note that the default mode for the RC2 is N, thus that will make it easier for me to compose the image. However, I would have to remember to switch to C mode before I start recording. Appreciate your thoughts.
Hi Steve; what you say makes sense from a photographer's perspective. Set up fast and shoot. These are all aimed at video filming, where camera movement needs to be far slower and measured. If you film video as well, then as you say, have fast movements for N or S mode, and slow movement settings for C mode.
This is brilliant as always Ian, and a vid that I’m going to save to my ‘watch later’ list so I can refer back to it. You are very lucky to have such a beautiful garden to do this in as well (unlike another TH-camr I could mention! 😂)
“Ian is my copilot”…I should make a t-shirt 😅 Many thanks sir! Great video as always. Rainy day is n south Chile, but I hope I give these a try tomorrow. Rock on 🤘🏼
@@IaninLondon Hi Ian; just letting you know that i put the settings to the test, and it's a world of difference. We went to the mountains today, and i think i did pretty good for a second flight😅...lots of fears went away even with 56km/hr gusts. Pretty smooth footage on the mini 4 💪. Anyway, thanks again. I think that this video is A MUST for everyone🤘
I really am enjoying playing with my Mini 4. I haven't had a drone for a few years and I found that the sticks are very small with not a lot of room to wiggle them about on the Controller to get precise gentle filming movements. To help me alleviate this predicament I changed the Expo settings so that when I start to move the sticks the drone moves slowly and cautiously and when I'm happy to "Give it the Beans" then I move the sticks further away from their central/neutral resting position. And when I want to move from "Full Beans" to more precise controlled movements, then I have more room to play and control what I'm doing when moving the sticks inwards. I shall experiment with Nifty though as I was uncertain what the mode did. BTW loving filming my drone at night. I haven't experimented with Night Time mode because the Dlog does such an excellent job with its 10bit colour profile.
Greetings from sunny South Australia! Thank you for putting up with the cold for an excellent presentation. So do you use these settings for all cine, normal and sports mode? Cheers
I do adjust them depending on the location and what I'm filming. For me, it's just important knowing what to change and to be able to change it quickly; rotational yaw is what I change 99% of the time
This looks like the new yard(ie garden)? I loved your old place happy to see you have a nice newer one too for our background viewing pleasure 😂 Also you’re the only TH-camr I’ve seen mention this behavior in the different modes, nice job.
I changed the settings and made so much of difference in the quality of my video. Only issue I was still have is the zoom control. Is their a setting to smooth the control in order to make the control so jumpy? Thank You and appreciate your videos. I've learned a lot.
👍👍 Great tips Ian! I just received my new Mini 4 Pro this week and was really shocked at how rowdy the default settings for both _Cine_ and _Normal_ modes are, especially _Cine,_ as compared to my old Mini 1. And _Max Descent Speed_ set at 5 m/s is plummeting! It sounds like a doomed helicopter falling out of the sky caught in irrecoverable Vortex Ring State. But I'm definitely going to try _Nifty Bypass Mode_ as _Normal_ mode feels very restrictive when trying to slowly fly FPV around our fenced in yard with trees and shrubs scattered about. Thanks again & Merry Christmas!😁
Morning Ian, this is an unrelated issue but I need your advice. Im planning on taking my mini3pro to Spain on holiday in the summer. What steps or proceedures do I need to follow? Many thanks Jon
Excellent tutorial. Movie and TV camera operators avoid jitter by panning no faster than 7 seconds for a fixed object at one side of the frame to arrive at the other - so the angular pan/turn rate will differ when zoomed in. I'd set that rate for the wide angle shots unless having to do critical shots in zoom. The other thing which overcomes jitter is motion blur - achievable with ND filters - and the 180° Shutter Rule BUT I've never seen a good article which takes zoom, slo-mo and media frame-rates into account. And if you are videoing for TV in Europe, it's different to filming for publishing on TH-cam... Your next video, Ian?
Great 👍 info. Uploaded first drone video today. Did not like the quick yaw movement. Just the info i needed. Subscribed 👍 new to drones and first. Having fun with it
Those are all very important settings, but still yet, not so easy to understand. I'm a professional pilot, but I know from talking to hobbyists, that it really confuses them, and I can understand why. So I wish DJI would add in "templates", which will set the drone behaviour to simply match a descriptive name; "Easy, Jumpy, Naughty, Stealth" etc.
Hi, thanks for the video. I would like to ask you DJI mic settings :) while recording I could not hear DJI drone noice. how can I do that in my DJI mic
Funny, because I like most of the settings exactly opposite to yours ;) Reason being I always use waypoints before I record anything, and this way to make waypoints faster
1) For a beginner, you do NOT want to set Brake/Nifty. You want obstacle avoidance, bypass. 2) The camera used to record this is set all wrong. Video is blown out and has no depth of field. Poor advice and poor camera work. C-

I suspect it was getting jumpy in that vid just hovering cos the props were icing up! It was blimmin freezing yesterday!
Fantastic video! Answered every question on this as a full newbie I had. Thank you.
Clear & concise as usual champ. Always helpful for us rookies. Thanks for your time & effort.
Thank you. I'll try these settings at my next drive flight.

Excellent!! Welcome aboard! 😀👍🏻
Thank you once again.
These are you're cine settings? Would I be correct in thinking somewhat quicker and less smooth in normal mode
Brilliant thanks
Thank you!
Will the yaw smoothness settings work while in hyperlapse or other video options ??
Thank you❤
great info mate but please fix your exposure on the camera next time..
Thx

Can the mini 4 pro do flips and manouvers?
Hi, thanks for the video. I would like to ask you DJI mic settings :) while recording I could not hear DJI drone noice. how can I do that in my DJI mic
No special setting; the drone was around 5 metres away and the mic was on my collar....
The drone does not record sound
Hi there I’ve just got a mini 4 pro and can’t turn on subject tracking! Any ideas?
Draw a box on the screen around the subject and it'll pop up
How has the house move gone :)
Very good! Studio ready for the next video. Only the surround sound to finish unpacking 🤠👍🏻
So the only totally new setting is nifty?
Yep, as said at beginning, this vid is for people who have just got their Mini 4 Pro as their first drone... 👍
Are you on route to Iceland?
Not this time 🤠
Boo 😂. Looks very spectacular has to be said.
For someone interested in photography and never operated a drone before, I feel the "Hmmm..'🤔 moment coming on..
Like your videos but if I may, they seem overexposed a tad, too bright. But always enjoy the content.
Will be back in the studio shortly instead of hard contrast bright sky versus shadow....

Well, main point of video is to explain what the settings do and how to amend them to your style of flying, so it's all good stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
