- This month's project is ideal for the Spring season! Getting a birdhouse set out in the early spring (in March) is the perfect time for birds to find secure accommodations for raising their new family. This fun Bird Shack project will provide that for them!
The entire project is vector-based, and was created with the VCarve software. Some of the features used while designing this project include the Create Shape tools, Array Copy, Drawing, and Node editing tools, Snapping features, Interactive Trim, and Fixed Nudge.
The exterior surfaces of the sample are painted and glazed to accentuate the shallow-carved detail and achieve the “shack-like” appearance. No finish was applied to the interior surfaces at all, as some finishes can be toxic to birds. It might be alright to use a “food-safe” clear finish on the interior, but I did not try that myself.

Great project but doesn't do most of us any good if we don't keep up grading our software, not everyone can afford to upgrade to the latest version, maybe supply dxf files so we all can enjoy
Hey Terry, thank you for your feedback. Our monthly projects are always created in the latest version of our core software, as this enables us to showcase new features and capabilities that have been at the heart of our development for new releases, along with our focus to educate users on how to use the software. Unfortunately we cannot back date the projects without also back dating them to the earliest version of the products to encompass all users with all versions of the software.
As we are a very small team, we don’t have the capacity to create and share dxf files alone along with our free projects.
We spend a lot of time ensuring that our training material provides our users with the tools they need to create their projects, and hope that users are inspired by the new projects that we create and are able to go on to create their own.

Hi terry, yeah but if its a very strong demanding, you could programm it by yourself in your older version, all the tutorial from vectric are available :-) Take it as an inspiration or stimulus hehe

Hardcore nice project! Top :-) Some of the Bird shacks have a small branch before the entrance hole for the bird, for landing :-)

@@vectric Birds that use this style box don't need a perch to get into the house and the perch would be used by predictors and that could bring harm.
Great project. Why does Michael apply gloss coat and then follow-up with semi-gloss or flat version - vs just starting with semi-gloss?

Is there no way to cut the bevels on the roof of the house with a CNC rather than a tablesaw?
Nice project. How and why do you set up your probe on the CNC machine that way? I find that rather interesting and pretty convenient.
Hello Trent... thanks for the question. I believe Micheal has a touch prob built into his machine. In some cases you can purchase an addon from your CNC manufacturer. There are also a fow DIY versions out there.
Could you show us how to use vcarve to design this project. I really like this and would like to design my own.

How can I get the files without winzip? Do I need the lazer?
You should be able to just unzip them without software on a Windows machine. No you do not need the lazer for this project. Thanks!
