- The Cutie Boxes make a great gift item for young and older, alike! Easily made over a weekend, these small boxes feature simple cutting and assembly so you can finish them on short notice, if necessary! (Did you forget a birthday or something? Cutie Boxes to the rescue!)
The v-carved design on the lids can be performed as-is, or you can create your own custom v-carve design using your Vectric software!
I used the Vectric VCarve software to create the Cutie Boxes project. A few features used in this project included import Bitmap, Trace Bitmap, Curve Fit vectors, the Drawing and Node editing tools, Snapping features, Fixed Nudge, and the Interactive Trim (scissors tool).

I just love all the boxes you make! Although this is the first one I have made. Christmas gifts for the grandchildren. I hope I can wait that long to give them.
Great project, I will be making these for sure. I will be running a downcut bit for mine as then I will not need any sanding in the bottom. 👍

I would suggest making a dowel registration tool path, so you could more accurately join the pieces together.
I like the project, be cool to do one double sided so you can cut recess for the lid so they aren’t so thick,looking and also recess under rings for base. Maybe even make stacking rings.

Why use the ring and underlayment. Why not cut it out as a lid and base?
Micheal have you ever used colored epoxy to fill in v carving If so did you do a video on it and where might I find that

Michael, Thanks for the project. Looks like fun.
One question: You use Krylon to clear coat many of your projects. I have tried that, but get a bit of a rough or textured finish that I don't get with other finishes regardless of application method (brush, wipe or spray). Is this a characteristic of Krylon or am I doing something incorrectly?

I don't get a rough or textured finish with the Krylon clearcoat sprays. Many factors can cause problems, though. Too far from a project whilst spraying, high humidity levels, too hot or cold temperature in the shop, cans were stored in freezing or near-freezing environment and spoiled the contents, didn't shake long enough before spraying, are a few possibilities I can think of.
If you have found a clear finish that yields a better result than the Krylon, then please go ahead and use that instead. Any suitable clear finish is fine!

Greetings, Michael, I would love to make this project, but I have NextWave Piranha, which will cut out around 12" z 12". how would that work with the machine?
Thanks Art for the question... I suspect all you need to do is adjust the tooling so you cut one box at a time. It might be helpful to open Michael's file and then save it off using a different name, then delete one of the 2 boxes and recaculate the tooling... then open the original file and delete the box you just recaculated, relocate the remaing vectors to area your machine can cut and recalculate the tooling. I hope that helps... and if not please fell free to email support@vectric.com and they can give you a hand.
the parts are all locked together. I need to just make one of them, like LOVE, because that is all the wood I can load but I dont see how to delete the other one.
Hey Rose, thank you for your question, all you need to do is double click onto the relevant toolpaths and only select the vectors you want to machine.
