Dungee Fishing it really is, glad to see you guys got picked up by Aftco. The Dobyns 704cb Dobyns Furyis one of my favorite rods period. Mr D took some time to talk to me on the phone yesterday and he said that rod is built exactly the same (less expensive components of course) as the top line model.
I agree, I always hit like as soon as I open the video for 2 reasons... 1- just to help support them cause they are flippin awesome 2- I know I'm gonna like it cause I have liked every one I've seen...and I've seen just about all of them...lol
I hate when people doubt your fishing skills. Like I was telling someone that when I get new different angles i haven't fished before i can usually catch more fish and ofcourse they doubted it. Great video tim!!!!!!
I love square bills passionately. This video helped due to the fact I'm very unorthodox when fishing them. And caught my first square bill fish in awhile. Tim please read we share this passion. And bomber, luckycraft, and livetarget favorite so far. What would u say is best early morning cold cloudy water. Best square bill? Go!
Totally agree with Tim about the comp rods in grassy areas that said I like the glass rod in clear water as it allows the bait more action helps the fish eat the bait when they strike and makes keeps them pinned better when landing fish as with all cranking.
Awesome videos! Thanks so much for teaching me everything I know about bass fishing! Please keep up the great work. You guys should have 1 million subscribers!
Would like to see you guys experiment with Owner Single hooks, hookup ratio vs. landing ratio should be interesting, as well as the option of using faster-action rods for cranking. You guys have the credibility to make a real analysis of pros/cons, there is a lot of talk about single hooks on the internets.
Totally agree with the composite rod for squarebills. I had a Glass and hated it. I got hung up 3 times as much with glass over comp. I wouldn't feel cover until the blank loaded halfway then it would spring against and pull it into the cover more. Now I can tell if a fish knocks slack, I hot grass, hard clay, mud, wood etc. It is so fun getting bit on a shallow plug. I throw mine on 15 lb sunline flouro. 16 sniper is my favorite but I'm using the rest of 15 lb assassin before I get more sniper. God video.
Good video guys i just bought a lews mach 1 and put it on a lews mach 1 speed stick with 12 pound assassin sunline and ive been catching bass left and right on crank baits because of this video😎👍
Hey Tim, awesome video, lots of good information. I don't know how much time It adds to the editing but the little sprinkles of you fishing and catching, or the underwater footage really spices up the presentation. Great job !
Thanks again to you,,, the best advice ive ever listened to,,, about how "changing the trebles effects the way it stays moss -free ,, lol. Congrats again on y'all's success,,, you've earned it
Love your videos guys! Im in Australia and watch them all. Im looking at what you're doing and how i can apply it here with our varied species. Thanks heaps. Dwayne Australia 🇦🇺
Great stuff Tim. When there is a potential for big fish I'll run with EWGs or just one set up front and a Round Bend at the tail, sometimes vice versa depending on the feeding mood. A set of EWG's front and back are just too damaging on smaller aggressive fish! And a pain in the ass to remove. When I go one of each I take the Round Bend out first which makes it easier and less damaging to remove the EWG next.
I agree about fishing cranks on braided line. It's important to quickly know when your bait hits a ledge or piece of structure. That often times triggers a reaction out of a fish that would otherwise watch it swim by.
Jacob Miller you need to be less agressive with hook sets with braid. On a crank little to no hook set is necessary as they hit hard enough they hook themselves
I find that silent Square bill crankbaits work well for me rather than ones that have noise in Pennsylvania. I find this is especially true in pressured Lakes; my. Opinion is bass recognize the sound and either you catch a young one or don't catch anything. I only use baits with sound only if its a subtle sound and dirty water
How do you know what hook sizes are on currently or are they all the same? What size hook do you recommend using? And does that go for shallow and deep running baits?
TacticalBassin IF i was fishing pristine Clear lake everyday then I'd be throwing them silent too lol. Delta for me and you r 100% about rattles in stained water... Great video can never wait till the next. Just a thought but can't remember a video for shore fishing on the Dirty D from you 2 and now MAY be the perfect time for it? I'm sure there r plenty of subscribers like myself who would gain some valuable insight, perhaps not only for this time of the year but all seasons? I think it could really do well on your channel considering the teaching style you both bring to the table... NEVER STOP! BTW A follow up for Stripers would be awesome in the D as well! Since everyone else does I guess I better say can you do? Lol (Not to mention Cats should you decide to step away from the norm as you did with the trout and micro fishing). Thank you for all your hard work, the BEST on YOU TUBE by far!
Clear Lake pristine... lol I think you're thinking of a different lake. We love doing shore fishing videos and we will hopefully be doing more of them. Thanks Savannagh for the kind words.
Yeah these guys are the coolest I thank them for every fish I caught past 4 years was because of them matt made me feel normal that he uses braid to fluro lmao and tim is badass to god bless them I watch them at least 3 times a week mabye more'!!!
really good video! and great timing as the bass here in Texas are killing the square bills right now. need to update my cranks with some EWG hooks though.
Tore them up on a square bill 1.0 natural shad here in NC on Saturday. When I got to the lake I had not confidence in catch fish at all due the the huge tournament at our lake. Keep in mind this is a small lake and there were around 40 boats with 3 parking spots left. Nonetheless put the boat in and killed them with my squarebill. I caught 6 overall with the biggest 4 spotted bass probably adding up to 10 lbs. Keep in mind 6lbs of bass can win a tournament here because it is an overfished lake. I couldn't believe I even fished behind where one guy just covered the bank with a spinner bait and picked up two fish, one of which was my largest spotted bass around 4 lbs. I guess slowing down, smaller lure, and careful lure placement saved the day for me. One thing I didn't mention was I caught those 6 fish in 3 hours because I wanted to transport them to another pond. Most days I only catch one or two fish within 5 hours or go home skunked. Maybe this new little squarebill is the key for my lake since it is primarly spotted bass and very small shad that they like to feed on.
I love using braid on my spinning gear, but have had some issues tying the braid to leader knot with my baitcaster when using higher lb test leaders. The knot gets so large that it occasionally gets caught in the line guide, any suggestions? I throw braid with 10lb flouro for jigs and I am fine, but as I get to 14-16, i start running into issues.
I really like using braid to a fluorocarbon leader, I use that FG knot. What knot are you guys using on your rigs? I know I need to up my braid strength, I think I'm only using 20lb-might be lighter braid to 10-12lb fluoro. What's the minimum braid strength you would use across all rods? Haha I gotta keep it cheap lol...
30-45# fins 40G is the one. Tie an FG to your leader and you're dialed in. The 40G is a truly round braid and it comes off the spool amazing. I'm now using it on my cranking rods as well with a leader
We both primarily use the 9 loop blood knot. I use to use the uni to uni but have since switched to almost always the blood. 30-40lb is probably the smallest id go across all rods.
Braid 100%... If you don't agree then argue with the 7lb 1oz and the 5lb 14 oz I caught this morning on a squarebill... Both tightly stuck to a piece of structure that I knew I hit thanks to my braided line.
I bet 90% of the people watching you don’t own boats, thus anytime you make a video I wish you’d give us a definitive best pond bait , like I use the Jackal Aska as my favorite go to pond crank and then I use some 6th sense and then I have a local company that makes cranks and those are my go to when I feel I’m gonna lose a few cranks that day cuz they work really well but they are cheap
My most confident sb is the Berkley Pitbulls. I was fishing a tournament a few months back and the guy I was paired with says he changes the front hook to a red treble hook on all his sb.
U guys rock, vid is lit! Tim give the 6th Sense 80X a shot, trust me. I fish Fork almost exclusively and we all know how pressured that lake is. And I agree and fish all the baits u mention in the vid.
A lot of people talk about using sharpies to mark, note, modify line and lures. Does the sharpie ink not make a smell in the water to deter fish? Or is it unnoticeable after the ink dries?
Jacob Miller exactly!!! And you can find great deals always, and they even sell them at Walmart! I bought them on sale for $1 a piece several months back at Walmart.
When you say you use braided line on your reel that is tied directly to your leader, what kind of line you use for your leader? Fluorocarbon? Mono? Or do you mean you actually tie the main braided line to your lure?
Hey guys! It would be awesome if you did a video on how to fish for northern strain largemouth vs fishing for floridanus. Regards from Spain (by the way, here we only have northern strain largies)
Tim how is the cast ability with your mgx? I have a few and find that it doesn't cast that far. I have mgxs set up on mh rods throwing jigs as well as on mh crank rods. It doesn't cast very far.
Me too. As I'm watching I try to think of what areas will work with the techniques they're discussing where I bank fish. I have a canoe I fish out of too but it's not as easy as a boat would be.
Great question. I've heard keep it to where the knot is just outside the spool, etc. I like it with 2-3 wraps of leader on my spool because the hardest pull when landing is at the boat or bank. I personally don't want that knot in the equation at that critical point.
Tim, great video! Thanks for the info. I didn't catch in the video if you mentioned what knot you guys use for your braid to mono? Is there one you prefer or a few that work well? I've never been a fan of leaders because I feel it's a weak point in my line. I've tried the FG knot but for some reason I just can't get it right.
Hey Tim, I have the new Chronarch on order, I will be pairing it on my Gloomis 7 ft med-heavy glass rod. You mention using braid to leader, what lb test braid to what lb test leader do you recommend for smaller sq. bills? And also mono or fluro for leader? Thanks.
Charlie Blanchard I would go straight floro for throwing cranks and square bills. The lack of stretch in braid tends to rip hooks out of the fish's mouth
thank you for this great informative video, I didn't know about using a sharpie to mark what depths. Now I have a question for you that goes along with this. I went to a flea market and someone was selling a box of crankbaits just dumped in a box. How do I know what depths each one runs at? I didn't buy the box because I don't know how to tell the depths, is the lip bent farther down on one that runs deeper. If you could email and give me your opinion on this. Maybe next year it might still be there and I know how to tell the depth. I will buy it. I have been getting into crankbaits a lot more. I usually fish plastics. jigs, spinnerbaits etc. Thank you for your input. I asked Matt and Martin, hope I can get an opinion from you. Would really appreciate it. Question: How do you tell a crankbait depth of one that isn't in the box, a used one?
By far the best fishing channel on TH-cam. Very useful and easy to watch. Thanks guys!

Don't forget the good ol Norman . This could be 5 vids worth of crankers. Good work Tim keep it up almost 80k!
The norman is a good bait! Thanks bud!

The lake your sitting on is beautiful. Wow. Also I agree that silent SBs get bigger bites. But they also get fewer bites

Cooking and Fishing multiple internet’s speak? Lol jk I’ve always been curious about single hooks but been too afraid to try
Well done Tim. Learned a lot. This is one of my weaknesses
I agree 100% on silent over rattlin crankbaits catching more and bigger fish! Great video thanks Tim
Thanks Robbie!
Totally agree with the composite rod for squarebills. I had a Glass and hated it. I got hung up 3 times as much with glass over comp. I wouldn't feel cover until the blank loaded halfway then it would spring against and pull it into the cover more. Very situational. Glass has its place but it may not work for your fishing areas.
Good video guys i just bought a lews mach 1 and put it on a lews mach 1 speed stick with 12 pound assassin sunline and ive been catching bass left and right on crank baits because of this video😎👍

Still Anxiously waiting for part 2
Please do a video on the large square bills
We have it on the list
Finally get to fish tomorrow for the first time in two weeks! Can't wait to start getting on some crankbait fish.
Nice! good luck man

The Megabass S crank is my go to squarebill. best square ever!
It works!
I agree about fishing cranks on braided line. It's important to quickly know when your bait hits a ledge or piece of structure. That often times triggers a reaction out of a fish that would otherwise watch it swim by.
sneaccy I honestly have found that fish pull off and I get less bites with braid
Jacob Miller you need to be less agressive with hook sets with braid. On a crank little to no hook set is necessary as they hit hard enough they hook themselves
My go to Squarebills are Manns Baby 4s, Speed traps by Lj, Xcalibur Xcs100s, Fat free shad guppys Etc.

Craig from Reel Vermont, thanks for putting out some cool original content! I love watching your videos, keep up the great work!
Your guys videos have so much information I love it!
C that's a great way to keep your square meals in diving order !
Love my squarebill crankbaits! I seem to do well on windy overcast days with them! Great video as always!👊💥
Thanks bud!
Love throwing squarebills, thanks for info!!! Mark
I love your stuff! I’m a small mouth guy. I’d love to see some small mouth specific stuff. Thanks
Awesome thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion for bass fishing shows in every video!!!!!
Thanks for watching Ted

Kenneth Archer slow...retrieve...pause... retrieve etc.
You guys Rule!! Thanks Again!! Always learning from you guys!

thank you. Lure data in the Middle of Montana is difficult to find locally.

Great job Tim good info
Yall need to check out Skirmish Baits M9 and MP7 Squarebills. Each and every one is hand painted and Skirmish is a Veteran owned company.
What size st36 would i use for a kvd 1.5 or those lucky crafts that you mentioned?
I really like using braid to a fluorocarbon leader, I use that FG knot. What knot are you guys using on your rigs? TacticalBassin thank you so much!!:)
TacticalBassin how long is a leader do you use with this setup
Y'all should take a look at gandy lures. They make wooden silent and flat sided cranks and swimbaits.
all 100 cranks that I have....are ones iv found :) for real. every time I go fishing I find a few. I have a boxes of lures now
Braid 100%... If you don't agree then argue with the 7lb 1oz and the 5lb 14 oz I caught this morning on a squarebill... Both tightly stuck to a piece of structure that I knew I hit thanks to my braided line.
Very informative, that's for the quality content guys👍

Jackall Aska 60 is another amazing SB
That might be in Matt's video ;)
Good video thanks but you did not mention the old balsa baits like the Bagley Balsa Bees they are great
My most confident sb is the Berkley Pitbulls.
Do u use the stock O rings or do u change them also?
i also mark my baits by scratching the depths on the bill with a sharp point
what kind of line is the leader on the braid to leader set up?
A lot of people talk about using sharpies to mark, note, modify line and lures. Does the sharpie ink not make a smell in the water to deter fish? Or is it unnoticeable after the ink dries?
lemme tell ya, those 1.5 kvd squarebills are amazing.
Hickology YES!! 👊🏼
J BERG but for the price they are the real deal
Jacob Miller exactly!!! And you can find great deals always, and they even sell them at Walmart! I bought them on sale for $1 a piece several months back at Walmart.
Ufcguru Official they aren't my favorite but they are amazing
Jacob Miller No favorites for me, I like several brands of cranks. Each brand has a few that I really catch em with.
Great info. Thanks
Thanks!
When you say you use braided line on your reel that is tied directly to your leader, what kind of line you use for your leader? Fluorocarbon? Mono? Or do you mean you actually tie the main braided line to your lure?
How do you feel about changing the treble hooks out for a single in line hook on your square bill crankbaits? Good or bad move?
Saw the question earlier but didn’t know if the answer only goes to the question asker: what knot do you tie your braid to leader.
Hey guys! It would be awesome if you did a video on how to fish for northern strain largemouth vs fishing for floridanus. Regards from Spain (by the way, here we only have northern strain largies)
We will add it to the list. Thanks for commenting!
What size braid do u use for cranking squarebills vs your deep divers? Thanks for the videos Tim
Another tip, remove belly hook and change tail hook with single hook for less hung up
Thanks for the great vid!!
Tim how is the cast ability with your mgx? I have a few and find that it doesn't cast that far. I have mgxs set up on mh rods throwing jigs as well as on mh crank rods. It doesn't cast very far.
What knot do you guys use to connect the fluoro leaders?
Can you guys do a pond bass fishing tips video? Not a lot of lakes with bass where I am :(
Search Tacticalbassin pond and you'll find a few we've done. There will be more.
what colors do yall typicaly throw during what time of year, particulary fall/spring
One thing I haven't figured out was how long of a leader for a crankbait ? Or jerkbait ???? I fish. A some what clear lake some days see bottom
Do you pop it or alter speed with a traditional crank bait as well?
It very well could be just me, but I have a hard time relating these kinds of tips to bank fishing lakes/ponds 😕
Me too. As I'm watching I try to think of what areas will work with the techniques they're discussing where I bank fish. I have a canoe I fish out of too but it's not as easy as a boat would be.
We need the second video
How long of a leader are you using and is it mono or flouro
Great question. I've heard keep it to where the knot is just outside the spool, etc. I like it with 2-3 wraps of leader on my spool because the hardest pull when landing is at the boat or bank. I personally don't want that knot in the equation at that critical point.
Do you have a lure guide?
Tim, great video! Thanks for the info. I didn't catch in the video if you mentioned what knot you guys use for your braid to mono? Is there one you prefer or a few that work well? I've never been a fan of leaders because I feel it's a weak point in my line. I've tried the FG knot but for some reason I just can't get it right.
Thanks Rick! We usually tie the 9 loop blood knot. Here is a video for you. th-cam.com/video/XKn9Pgl1sYI/w-d-xo.html
Fantastic, thank you!
Hey Tim, I have the new Chronarch on order, I will be pairing it on my Gloomis 7 ft med-heavy glass rod. You mention using braid to leader, what lb test braid to what lb test leader do you recommend for smaller sq. bills? And also mono or fluro for leader? Thanks.
Charlie Blanchard 20-30 lb powerpro maxcuatro with a 10-15lb fluorocarbon leader.
Charlie Blanchard I would go straight floro for throwing cranks and square bills. The lack of stretch in braid tends to rip hooks out of the fish's mouth
What Dobyns Fury rod would y'all recommend for crank bait fishing? What reel under $200 would you pair with it? Thanks
How long of a leader do you guys use?
Great info!
Thanks!
I’m ordering a silent one right now
Do you recommend adding extra split rings to the baits for better hook up ratios ?
I don't do that but i know it works. I haven't had the hook up ratio problems since upgrading all my hooks.
What are the best for shallow water I mean a crankbait that runs 2.5-3 ft.deep
Best crankbaits rod for under 100 bucks has to be the 13 fishing fate chrome in 6’7, at least for me
Love you channel! How long a leader do you run for squarebills?
Also what is your favorite stick for throwin squarebills?
How long of a leader do u use.
Will it effect hook ups when you put your hooks on the bait a certain way or dose it just prevent hanging up as often?
Im not sure if it will affect hookup ratios but the hooks wont sit flush to the bait and can affect the action of the bait.
What knots do you use to braid to flour, also how long are your leaders?
We've got two videos that show how to tie the exact knot, its a 9-loop blood knot. Leaders are typically 8-10 feet.
I fish in pretty clear water where you can see your lure 6'-8' down. How long of a leader would you use for cranking?
Usually between 7-10 feet
When do you go to the big magnum square Bill crankbaiting and were my favorite is the lucky craft magnum
When the bait is bigger usually in spring time.
How do you tie braid to leader?
How long is your leader? Starting to transition into braid to leader and having a tough time with leader length.
Ryan Perkins personally, I use a leader as long as my rod. That may not be “proper”, as I’ve never looked up the “correct” way but it works for me.
thank you for this great informative video, I didn't know about using a sharpie to mark what depths.
Experience will give you a ball park idea but basically you've got to throw them and watch/feel how deep they really go.
i would love a video on magnum squarebills such as the strike king 8.0...like if you agree
It's pretty warm here in SF south bay still, do we have a delayed fall pattern due to temps? Or do bass react more to hours of daylight?
Maybe.. I'm in Sf bay too it's hot in the daytime but the nights are much cooler. I noticed the water temp dropped alot this last week or so
Yeah we are getting that Indian summer heat..wondering if I should adjust to fall patterns or switch when the temps drop consistently
Length of day is the largest factor but water temps definitely play a factor. A few more weeks of cold nights should set off the fall bite
Which size st35 hooks for bds3?
I live in Delaware, we've got all man made ponds, you can literally stand in the middle of all the ponds. What would you suggest for 1-2 ft.
Robert Yoder you could try a wakebait that can run a bit deeper to 1ft or so but that's a bout it
